Tiny Minority of Extremists™? Really? "Right On: The straightforward arithmetic of jihad," by Michael Freund in The Jerusalem Post, with thanks to Sr. Soph:
It's time we open our eyes and confront reality. Ever since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the media has sought to reassure us that only a tiny minority of Muslims actually support the use of violence against Israel and the West.It's just a small fringe, a marginal few at best, they tell us, so don't worry about it all too much. One percent or three percent - who cares? Just sit back, enjoy your morning eggs and coffee and have a nice day.
But a look at the numbers tells a very different story. The extent of support for global jihad is frightening in its proportions, and the numbers are anything but insignificant.
Consider, for example, the following statistics regarding support for suicide bombings and other types of terror attacks.
In a poll conducted five months ago, and broadcast on Britain's Channel 4 TV, nearly 25% of British Muslims said the July 7, 2005, terror bombings in London, which killed 52 innocent commuters, were justified. Another 30% said they would prefer to live under strict Islamic Sharia law rather than England's democratic system.
Now, one in four justifying terror may not be a majority, but it certainly isn't a "small fringe" either.
In other countries, the figures are no less unsettling. A survey published in December found that 44% of Nigerian Muslims believe suicide bombing attacks are "often" or "sometimes" acceptable. Only 28% said they were never justified.
According to the annual Pew Global Attitudes Survey, released in July 2006, "roughly one-in-seven Muslims in France, Spain and Great Britain feel that suicide bombings against civilian targets can at least sometimes be justified to defend Islam." The report also found that less than half of Jordan's Muslims believe terror attacks are never justified. In Egypt, only 45% of Muslims say terror is never justified.
STILL THINK only a "tiny minority" are in favor of violence? In Israel, the percentages are even more alarming. After Cpl. Gilad Shalit was abducted by Hamas terrorists last summer, a poll conducted by the Jerusalem Media and Communications Center revealed that 77.2% of Palestinians supported the kidnapping, while 66.8% said they would back additional such attacks.
More than six out of 10 Palestinians also said they were in favor of firing Kassam rockets at Israeli towns and cities.
And lest you think that war fever lay behind the results, consider this: four additional polls published in September, nearly a month after the Lebanese conflict had ended, all found large majorities of Palestinians backing terror attacks against the Jewish state.
Indeed, in various countries around the world, support for Muslim fundamentalist terror groups appears to be widespread.
On the fifth anniversary of the September 11 attacks, a survey conducted by Al-Jazeera asked respondents, "Do you support Osama Bin-Laden?" A whopping 49.9% answered: yes.
And the July 2006 global Pew survey found that among Muslims, a quarter of Jordanians, a third of Indonesians, 38% of Pakistanis and 61% of Nigerians all expressed confidence in the mass murderer who founded al-Qaida.
In Lebanon six months ago, the Beirut Center for Research and Information found that over 80% of the Lebanese population said they supported Hizbullah.
And do I need also to mention that a majority of Palestinians backed Hamas in parliamentary elections last year? Sure, there are also places where support for violent jihad is not as high. As Reuters reported on October 15, just 10 percent of Indonesian Muslims said they backed jihad and supported bomb attacks on the island of Bali aimed at foreign tourists.
But Indonesia is home to more than 200 million Muslims, so while 10 percent may sound like a small number percentage-wise, it is actually quite large in absolute terms. It means there are some 20 million Muslims in Indonesia alone who are willing to say out loud that they support the use of violence and terror against innocent human beings.

The only thing that will be 100% justified is to outlaw Islam, before it's to late.

There is no tiny majority of this fanatic cult.
Its just a strategy used by them.
The so called minority jihadi goes in and attacks and kills and does his work.
Then so called moderates come out and cool us down to avoid any full fledged retaliation.
If the moderates are really so called moderate muslims, then how come when a attack on non muslims be it jews/hindus/christians occurs they never come out in thousands to condemn the attack.
I never saw a large gathering protesting 9/11 or any other terrorist attack anywhere in the world.
All I heard from the moderate muslims was an one line saying "This is not right.This is not view of majority of Muslims,Only few were involved".
But at same time we could clearly see the twinkle in their eyes.
And eyes are mirror to the soul.
But at same time one small cartoon(cartoons we make for even our own gods/leaders on daily basis) , or just one one small comment by the Pope(that too a refernce comment) evoked a worldwide response from the moderates,and we all saw the numbers of muslims who protested throughout the world.
If those number of violent protestors were a minority ,then I guess they dont need a majority .
We are at war and we are still in denial about it because of our politically correctness obsession.
We need to make a Jew-Christian-Hindu axis soon enough before its too late becasue if we dont unite now,they will slaughter each single religion one by one .
There already is a saying in the Arabic world.
"First comes saturday then sunday" which they translate as "Once we are finished with jews we will take care of the Christians".
And once Jews and Christians are finished the remaining religions are so small in numbers ,compartively that they wont stand a chance against the Islamic armies and the Islamic dream of making this earth Islamic world.

Of course, you will not see the MSM reporting on numbers like these, scared that they may be called Islamaphobic....
Of course, you will not see these fact being taught in schools, scared they will be seen as teaching hate....
of course, people refuse to see that 90% of all conflict in the world is directly Muslim related...called blind stupity...
of course when people read "kill them where you find them" they refuse to believe they are them....future violent death denial syndrome...
of course when governments such as the US and Israel give millions of dollars to Muslims (and especially Militant Muslims) they must know they are paying the Muslims to kill non Muslims...called silent mercenary contract syndrome...
Is everyone in the world just becoming stupid and/or suicidal...
I want to scream every time I see Muslims making demands and getting the demands approved...It has to be stopped....the sooner the better....
Islam is a contagious mental disorder...remove it from your neighborhood before it is too late...

This may add on. Just got another insightful mail with great analysis of the situation in the middle east from Brigitte Gabriel's site.

Sadly, it will take at least one more 9/11 before Western politicians take any decisive action to counter the Islamic threat.
MI5 - the UK's equivalent of the CIA - knows of 30 terror plots threatening the UK and is keeping 1,600 individuals under surveillance. See:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6134516.stm
It would only take one unknown plot for an attack to succeed.
And you can be sure that most of those being monitored have British passports.
I wouldn't blame Uncle Sam if he decided to ban all Muslims who had British passports from entering the USA.

So my fellow Brits, when are we going to move to the USA seeing as our country is already lost?

In short, it's called Cohabitation, which will not exist between Islam and Christian cultures; it has nothing to do with democracy or a democratic way of living.

The results of these polls don't surprise anyone at this site. Even if the media is correct that only 3 percent of Muslims are to blame for world troubles 3 percent of 1.2 billion is hardly a drop in the bucket.

"It's just a small fringe, a marginal few at best, they tell us, so don't worry about it all too much. One percent or three percent"
......it is a lie, it is much higher....I see the Muslim inspired violence a grand level...enough to do whatever is necessary to stop it...sadly violence begets violence...last man standing wins...

I believe these polls significantly undercount the actual approvals of the Muslim terrorist's activities since many responding would not consider it in their interests to answer truthfully - many already complain of a "police state".
But even these underestimating results shout out the need to severely restrict Muslim immigration and change laws enabling revoking of immigrant citizenship for terrorism related activities and quicker deportation without caring about the deported person’s safety in the place of deportation. But the politicians have mastered the art of appearing concerned and caring while doing little or nothing to prevent the coming demographic catastrophe.
The solution (in both Britian & Europe) is for the voters to scare the hell out of these ineffective political parties while they still can by coming out to vote for the nationalistic right wing parties, not necessarily because they really want these parties but because their increase in apparent support will force the other parties to more effective action as a preemptive strategy to stay in power. IMO the current liberal parties are much worse than these nationalistic anti – Muslim immigration parties anyway despite all the usual nonsensical propaganda against them.

Islam even in traces is as good as a holocaust, just as there is no "small, harmless dose of cyanide" or "a tolerable extent of cancer".
But, just like cancer, Islam has to be wiped out only by extreme measures.

a busy minority !

"One percent or three percent - who cares? Just sit back, enjoy your morning eggs and coffee and have a nice day.".
Yeah, the media likes to mention this fact a lot in serving as Islamania's loyal lapdog. How many of them would eat eggs and drink coffee that's "only" 3 percent spoiled? I know I wouldn't-no rational person would. Islam that's 3 percent spoiled is just as unpalatable and far more deadly.

for those who read arabic, the al-jazeera website (aljazeera.net) regularly conducts these polls and the results are available at the website. the results should be of interest to jihadwatch readers. one i looked at recently indicated that over 89% of the respondents opposed the execution of saddam.

Media says: "It's just a small fringe, a marginal few at best, they tell us, so don't worry about it all too much."
Ya, well I wouldn't worry about it as much, if I saw massive coverage in the media of muslims proving:
how upset muslims are with extremism / jihad;
how they are closing down the vile anti-infidel speech in mosques (including moderate ones);
integration with western society;
upholding western laws of the land;
measures they are taking to "un-brainwash" the young of Islam;
condeming the violence born in Islam;
keeping religion as a private matter;
loyalty to the country who so graceously took them in;
a full stop to the phoney discrimination game played by organizations such as CAIR;
Talk is cheap and deceptive, actions are real.

Anyway, congratulations to Michael Freund for busting this myth.

911...I have a problem.
I am as opposed to Islam as anyone one visiting this site, dare I say it, even as much as Robert and Hugh. I have just finished a second reading of Robert's 'The Truth about Mohammed' (Excellent) - which is about the 35th book I have read on Islam in the last two years and that includes the Koran - which only duty made me persevere with to the end. I have purchased, and screened for a number of others, the dvd 'Islam: What the West needs to know.' (Excellent) In the last two months I have had four letters published in the main local paper opposing Islam and seeking to inform readers of its threat to us all. I have had more responses to those letters than to any of the hundreds of others I have had published.
And yet...I am not convinced 911 is as the official story tells it. That in fact 911 was not just the plain and simple jihad attack it is made out to be. There are just too many anomolies. Why the US Government should be implicitly believed on this, I do not know. And I do not say that because I am anti-Bush etc etc.
Consistently the US Gov has refused to identify Islam as the enemy. Consistently George Bush has referred to Islam as a religion of peace - and he is not alone in expressing such ideas. Just the other day Condelesa Rice made a speech noted on this site in which she perversely and explicitly sided with the enemies of the West. She is not alone in such statements from high places. There is the perverse refusal by the US Gov to secure its borders or to deal with the millions of illegal immigrants, even jailing border guards who were doing their job correctly. And so on and on and on, and I'm sure US citizens could add far more to this list than these few items - add TWA 800 into the mix from way back. And of course we now have the dhimmicrat convention submitting to a prayer for their conversion or annihilation.
I have said before that it would be far easier for me to simply accept the official story because it lines up with all I know of Islam. Nor do I like the implications that flow from the idea that the planes did not bring down the Twin Towers. However, difficult as it is, I'm convinced that there is far more to it than the official conspiracy theory makes out - that the planes did not bring down the towers - and the sooner we deal with this the better it will be for all of us.
