Deadliest Bomb in Iraq Is Made by Iran, U.S. Says

Iran continues its efforts to create a Shi'ite client state in Iraq. By Michael R. Gordon for the New York Times, with thanks to James:

WASHINGTON, Feb. 9 — The most lethal weapon directed against American troops in Iraq is an explosive-packed cylinder that United States intelligence asserts is being supplied by Iran.

The assertion of an Iranian role in supplying the device to Shiite militias reflects broad agreement among American intelligence agencies, although officials acknowledge that the picture is not entirely complete.

In interviews, civilian and military officials from a broad range of government agencies provided specific details to support what until now has been a more generally worded claim, in a new National Intelligence Estimate, that Iran is providing “lethal support” to Shiite militants in Iraq.

The focus of American concern is known as an “explosively formed penetrator,” a particularly deadly type of roadside bomb being used by Shiite groups in attacks on American troops in Iraq. Attacks using the device have doubled in the past year, and have prompted increasing concern among military officers. In the last three months of 2006, attacks using the weapons accounted for a significant portion of Americans killed and wounded in Iraq, though less than a quarter of the total, military officials say.

Because the weapon can be fired from roadsides and is favored by Shiite militias, it has become a serious threat in Baghdad. Only a small fraction of the roadside bombs used in Iraq are explosively formed penetrators. But the device produces more casualties per attack than other types of roadside bombs.

Sorry OT, but interesting:

Hmmm...an “explosively formed penetrator,” isn't this a "shaped charge"... anyway, my buddies in Iraq (both civilian and military) have suspected Iranian support for quite some time. I suppose those on the "left-side" of the political spectrum will merely dismiss these "suspicions" as the administrations propaganda to drum up support of an attack against the Iranians. Personaly, I say "out of Iraq... and into Iran" it is where we should have been in the first place.

I don't know about the rest of you but I am getting sick and tired of sitting around waiting to be nuked by Iran. Maybe I should run for office and deal with those clowns myself? (Hmmmm. Let's see. I have no constituency, no warchest, no party support, and a suicidal, liberal media that would hate my guts the split second I opened my mouth. Nope. I guess I will just keep stocking my bomb shelter and await whatever the future may be).

Rania, the looker, has been pressed into propaganda service, just like the Hashemite Halaby, Queen Noor, or for that matter the Qatari ruler's wife. Apparently we are to confuse the good looks of this or that Muslim ruler's first or best or even possibly only wife, with the actual beliefs, and acts based on those beliefs, of hundreds of millions of very primitive, and far less presentable, people.

Don't think, in Rania's case, it will work at the Vatican. It might with Bill Clinton, though.

Ah, don't worry, Iran's next on the drawing board, they'll be wiped-out just like Baghdad. I believe we'll wait until the line of peace has been drawn in the sand with Iraq, and then if anything happens, it'll be a Pillar of Smoke in the East !

No, of course not. Why should I believe anything "this" administration says. I mean realy, you should listen to the Islamist, maybe Muslim cohorts. I mean, deception in the Quran is unheard of. What are you guys thinking? Mutilate some women, kill some gays, stone some infidels, blow yourself up, be a martyr, hate publicly any religion other than your own, squash democracy, did I mention kill in the name of religion as opposed to self defense? You need to check your neck, and realize that the far left liberal bullshit, feeds you to the slaughter!

Personaly, I like going to work without bombs exploding, or death threats or fatwahs issued for how I washed my hands, or took a poop! Sharia law says that you can be killed for anything. Just say the prophet said it is ok, or the Quran, and kill at will. If you mess up, blow yourself up. I don't matter if you kill Jews, although they are prime targets, Americans, Infidels, which means you, or Muslims. Just kill people, and yourself, while you do it, and you get a free, yes people I said, free, ticket to hell. Whoops, I mean heaven and lalah land of whores and Jesus juice.

Iran has been threatening all sorts of stuff for along time.
Even if they say "wipe Israel off the map", referring to the "little satan", it doesn't take much to extrapolate this to the "big satan", the U.S. of A.

...One of the problems (as I see it) is the seemingly unlimited suppy of these explosives. We have witnessed an almost daily series of explosions for almost 4 years...(and most of them in and around the Bagdad area)...

....I think I would be conducting a more in depth program of border security and surveillance along the Iranian/Iraqi borders and of all roads leading into Bagdad....(try to catch the supplies in route before they get to the terrorists hands)...

.....Sooner or later, there will have to be a house to house search in Bagdad and and surrounding areas to locate the explosives caches and the auto shops where the suicide car bombs are assembled...

.....I suspect the Bagdad weapons and explosives are indeed coming from Iran....

....I suspect the weapons and explosives found in the Anbar province to be coming in from Syria...THe US Marines have had some success in locating and destroying weapons and explosives caches and killing terrorists transporting the same from Syria...(although it gets precious little coverage from the media)....

.....There can be no doubt the terrorists are being resupplied from major state entities (such as Iran and Syria --do not rule out Saudi Arabia )...

.....There is an increasing talk of "redeployment" or "pullout" when the emphasis should be on stricter actions and more stringent activities on routing out the the terrorists and their weapons caches....

....Sooner or later it will come down to some serious killing....It is better do it now, while we still can.....

.....If Iran want to play the bully then the bullys noses will have to be bloodied....and in a serious way....

.....Iran has been receiving shipment after shipment (mostly by seaborne transport) of weapons, missiles, explosives, and other equipment from Russia, North Korea, and China for a long time...These ships have been monitored and even photographed being unloaded (by spy satellites and other surveillance means)....

....One main reason to stockpile massive supplies of weapons is because you intend to use them....Iran has openly stated they intend to use them...Iran does not try to conceal much...(they do some concealing, however)...

....As more and more evidence come forth about Iran (and others) supplying the terrorists, it becomes more clear that we cannot continue to let our soldiers be killed by their weapons.....

....Running away is not the answer....
