Jihad Watch reader James has alerted me to a new review of my book The Truth About Muhammad at Amazon.com, where the reader reviewers are only marginally better policed than the average Wikipedia entry about any controversial issue. I thought I'd post this Amazon review because it is indicative of certain tendencies:
Typical Jewish propaganda , February 7, 2007 Reviewer: Reader "Reader" - See all my reviewsMr.Spencer being a Jew would try to write about a religion that shows Jews for what they are. Being the killers Jesus and being genocidal maniacs as can be seen day in and day out in Palestine would have to try and disgrace this religion by stating lies about a nine year old getting married to Muhammed.
Of course, I'm not Jewish, but it is a common thing: Victor Davis Hanson and Paul Marshall have both told me that they too have been labeled Jewish by Muslims after writing about Islamic jihad. One day perhaps such Muslim writers will awaken to the fact that Islamic supremacism has won them a considerably larger spectrum of opponents than they care to imagine.
Note also the naked Jew-hatred of the review above, along with a spurious accusation of genocide. Such attitudes are deeply rooted within Islam, and widespread.
Finally, there is the bit about my spreading "lies about a nine year old getting married to Muhammed." It never ceases to amaze me how brazenly writers like this one (and some prominent Islamic apologists I have encountered) can deny elements of Islam that are taught in Islamic texts that Muslims consider authoritative. Muhammad's consummation of his marriage with Aisha when she was nine is in the hadith collection Muslims consider most reliable, Bukhari, several times: 5.48.234; 5.58.236; 7.62.64; 7.62.65; and 7.62.88.
What's more, it is clear that Muslims take this seriously and imitate Muhammad in this. Article 1041 of the Civil Code of the Islamic Republic of Iran states that girls can be engaged before the age of nine, and married at nine: “Marriage before puberty (nine full lunar years for girls) is prohibited. Marriage contracted before reaching puberty with the permission of the guardian is valid provided that the interests of the ward are duly observed.”
The Ayatollah Khomeini himself married a ten-year-old girl when he was twenty-eight. Khomeini called marriage to a prepubescent girl “a divine blessing,” and advised the faithful: “Do your best to ensure that your daughters do not see their first blood in your house.”
Time magazine reported in 2001: "In Iran the legal age for marriage is nine for girls, fourteen for boys. The law has occasionally been exploited by pedophiles, who marry poor young girls from the provinces, use and then abandon them. In 2000 the Iranian Parliament voted to raise the minimum age for girls to fourteen, but this year, a legislative oversight body dominated by traditional clerics vetoed the move. An attempt by conservatives to abolish Yemen’s legal minimum age of fifteen for girls failed, but local experts say it is rarely enforced anyway. (The onset of puberty is considered an appropriate time for a marriage to be consummated.)"
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reports that over half of the girls in Afghanistan and Bangladesh are married before they reach the age of eighteen. In early 2002, researchers in refugee camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan found half the girls married by age thirteen. In an Afghan refugee camp, more than two out of three second-grade girls were either married or engaged, and virtually all the girls who were beyond second grade were already married. One ten-year-old was engaged to a man of sixty.
Yet despite all that and more, I'm supposed to have made up this hadith, just as a prominent Islamic apologist wrote me a few months ago accusing me of fabricating Muhammad's marriage to his daughter-in-law. In charging this sort of thing, of course, they're relying on the public's ignorance of Islam. Many will readily believe that if a Muslim and a non-Muslim disagree about Islam, the Muslim must be the one who really knows and is telling the truth.
It's more the pity that the writer of this Amazon review, whoever he or she is, has almost certainly never complained about the material in Bukhari about Aisha's child marriage. The distribution of such books is just fine among Muslims, Muhammad's child marriage and all. It's just not right for non-Muslims to call attention to such things.

We got a whole lot of immigration questionnaire questions here.
What is the youngest a woman can be when she is married?
How old can the man be?
Then use the ages of Muhammad and his child bride.
Ask if that was proper then and now.
From each country, they should be asked to agree or disagree with court decisions from that country.

Instead of always looking at Islam this and Islam that, one should try to look at the economic situation in certain countries (not just Islamic ones) and understand that it makes "sense" to have your daughter married as soon as possible (like before 18) especially if you live in a fricken' refugee camp!
Other Islamic countries like for example Tunisia and a fairly large muslim area called Central Asia have different statistics, is that because they're not being "Muslim" enough?
Not everything that happens in Muslim countries is linked to this or that hadith or the "jihad ideology"

I think you might be missing the point. One of the documented roads to financial success is to delay marriage (not have children at the age of 12, let's say). If you delay marriage, that generally means more years without having to look after children. If you delay marriage, then the spouse (let's say the husband) has the time to develop a career, establish himself; and the same is true for women. But if child marriages are arranged, and completed at an early age, most of the time it will result in huge, impoverished families. Trying to support large families on meager incomes is part of why there are such appalling conditions in Third World countries. What further exacerbates the problem is a religion that encourages child marriages. If it's religiously smiled upon, then it's all that more difficult to overcome.

All good points when it comes to the young couple, but for the Parents it makes sense to marry off an extra mouth to feed.
i really dont think this or that Hadith is your main motivation as a parent in a refugee camp.

Claims of genocide in "Palestine" are absolutely ridiculous. In the last 60 years the population of the Gaza Strip has increased from about 80,000 to 1,400,000. Generally, victims of genocide do not experience population explosions.

I'm missing your logic.
Parents in a refugee camp dump (you call it "marrying off") their child (you call "extra mouth") on another refugee and that makes sense?
I doubt that many in a refugee camp have read many islamic texts or the Iranian Civil Code but cultures get their practices from somewhere and all evidence points to islam as the force behind the continuing acceptance of child marriage.
BTW, people in a refugee camp who have nothing for themselves and nothing to offer the next generation should not be marrying or breeding.

It's more complicated than that - according to the story there are several levels.
It's all about the Pharasees and the High Priests wanting power and control over the Judeans-
and Yeshua came to break that power and hold over his people. It WAS the priests and Pharisees that did plot to kill him - NOT the Judeans, NOT his own people.
And the deeper level is that Yeshua deliberately allowed his death - TO SHOW his Power over his material body. And that we can do the same.
I suspect there were other Masters before Him - showing us the same thing over and over - but really, HE was the Master Teacher.

Whenever I see the words, "Typical Jewish Propaganda" I know that the writer is anti-semite. At that point whatever is said is completely ignored unless it affects my safety or ability to eat on a regular basis.
Whenever you see those words, you can understand that the speaker has the tendencies towards conspiracy type motives of who rules the world.

Truth is islam's greatest enemy...
Some muslims apparently seem to fear it so much they try to evade it like the vampires evade the sunlight - at any cost, even if they have to lie about the very contents of the qu'ran and the haddiths.
Obviously the idea of islamist supremacy heavily depends on lies and people either ignoring and negating the very truth.
Spreading the truth seems to be one of the most effective yet hardly used weapons in the war against terror.
Citing the quran, telling islamic history - neither algebra nor our numbers f.e. are of arab origin. They are Indian. Yet only few people know. And - back to history - the "peaceful" Arab invasion of the Indian subcontinent cost the life of around 70 million Indians.
Compare that to the "cruel" Spanish conquista of South America..
Compare the "cruel and inhuman" European slave trade with the "peaceful and human" Arab slave trade and you'll see it's a fraction.
I guess slavery is always cruel and inhuman, independent of who your master is..
Yet anyone ever asked the Arabs for excuses, let alone they got the idea to even acknowledge?
No, we let them go off continuosly complaining for 100 years of crusades without ever pointing out that islam has been on a never ending crusade ever since it's very beginning. And without pointing out that the loss of Christian and Hindu lands and lifes by far outnumbers the Arab losses. The Christian/Jewish/Hindu world has suffered far more from Arabs than Arabs had ever to suffer from Christians/Jews/Hindus.
Yet who takes the role of the victim??
Seems like the only thing where the Western world is really stuck far behind the Arab world is the mastering of propaganda.

What a peach of a man-cut right from the same cloth as Mo. I am amazed that nobody's written a good biography about this creepy devil considering his importance in the last 30 years. Hugh or Robert-any chance of either of you writing such a book? If not, does anyone know if such a book is out there currently?

I had the same experience on a Catholic blog. A particularly hate-ridden Lefebvrite schismatic troll - full of prejudice against Israel and support for Islam, natch - suggested that I could not be a real Catholic and had to be a Jew in disguise. It so happens that I come from both sides from ancient Italian families - my mother's people go back to the sixteenth century, my father's to the thirteenth - that have included at least one saint of the Catholic Church and one of Italy's most famous painters. The arms of my mother's family include a red Sacred Heart of Jesus - very Jewish! But the Jew-bashing twerp could just "feel" that I was Jewish. This sort of thing becomes inevitable when you start opposing groups who base their identity on hatred: you will start being perceived through their hatred, and assimilated to the objects of their hatred. Personally, I would not even call it an insult; both being hated by such people, and being assimilated to Einstein, Marc Chagall, Jack Kirby, or Maimonides, is a compliment.

This will be sure to scare off people from what is really going on.
Every time some person - whether an agent or fr some other org. has an agenda or wants to give disinformation - so the gov, or authorities can continue their schemes, they're sure to scream and point "CONSPIRACY NUT!"
And then, the evil can continue - because the people will back off, and allow it to happen.

Very interesting. It seems that the number of them who kill each other far outweighs the number of them who kill each other or themselves.
Recently I googled the good old ayatollah K because of what I saw about having relations with babies. I found a site run by an Iranian woman whose Mother stood up to Islam - fatally. This woman had his books translated and has them on line. I will try and find it again. It was under the name of a Doctor (her mother). Just don't eat lunch before you read it.

What I find really shocking and upsetting is that Amazon posted this review at all. So much for moderation. I'm pretty sure if I'd posted a review attacking Karen Armstrong's recent hagiographic rubbish saying that she was a Jihadist and that all Muslims were 'genocidal maniacs' they wouldn't have posted it. Something tells me I'll be taking my custom elsewhere.

Hmmm Mr. Spencer, it is interesting how these little Islamic Thought Police always are lurking around so many sites these days with rude comments.
As a sidenote, I invest allot of time playing a Persian board game online and took an aka of it back in 1998. You would be surprised how many times I get contacted by Muslims thinking I am something I am not.
There apparently is a host of these little minds prowling about with in depth thoughts like you were attacked with.

Go onto Amazon and do a search of Khomeini and you'll find a biography, Khomeini: Life of the Ayatolla.
I can't vouch for it, but there are some interesting reviews of the book and descriptions of its contents.
They also have a book of Khomeini's own writings, published in 1981, right after the hostages were released.

Previously, it used to be that everyone was born Islamic, and then apostatized. Now, it's that every anti-Muslim must be a Jew. I'm sure that would be news to a lot of people - Ali Sina, Virgil Goode, Nick Griffin, Phillipe de Villiers, Avigdor Lieberman, Bal Thackeray,... I'd particularly like to see the response of crypto-Fascists like Griffin and Thackeray when they find out that they are Jewish.
