At FrontPage today, a new initiative:
Is Islamic jihad just a harmless form of spiritual struggle -- as is often argued by Western apologists for radical Islam? Is Jihadi violence simply a twisted, hijacked version of Islam, rejected by traditional Muslims? The David Horowitz Freedom Center's new Terrorism Awareness Project, which seeks to educate Americans, and especially college students about jihad, confronts questions such as these. It has produced a powerful new flash video, What Every American Needs to Know About Jihad. This video is adapted from a new pamphlet by Robert Spencer, which puts the threat of jihadist ideology into historical perspective. As Spencer makes clear, the religious imperatives of jihad demand the subjugation or killing of infidels and form the poisoned logic of Islamists' expansionist war against America and the West.To view the flash video, click here.

Very good summary; great idea to target colleges. Thank you for all of your efforts and congratulations on eight million visits.

I agree that this is definitely information every American--heck, everybody, period--needs to know about jihad, and targetting colleges, some of our most liberal institutions, is certainly a good idea. But, I can't help but feel pessimism that many will not get, or accept the message, and that this will be construed by the leftists and apologists as hatemongering, scare-tactics, "racism", etc. Even in spite of all the evidence regarding Islamists and jihad today--the countless acts of violence that have occurred throughout the entire world for so many years now, and the photos and words of the jihadists themselves--there are still far too many people who refuse to come out of their denial bubble and accept the truth. Those in American society who claim to be the most "open-minded" (liberals) in general claim to be the most close-minded when it comes to this particular subject. I have liberal friends who can rail against Christianity all day long, but who have never said one word against radical Islam, Muslim terrorism, Muslim oppression of women, etc. The situation certainly isn't helped by nitwits like Rosie O'Donnell declaring that "radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam". I applaud Horowitz, Robert, and others trying to get the truth out; I'm just afraid that it might be falling mostly on (willfully?) deaf ears.

I think the music and graphics were meant for a single targeted audience. Hopefully, they will make other versions with different themes. How about:
Islam are your kids at risk?
A Christens guide to Islam (this theme would work with many religions)
The costs of Islam (highlight the cost in lives and property)
I could list more but you get the idea.

At LA Public Library, two individuals I have not heard of speak about Islam (too much to hope it's a debate):

Targeting impressionable kids in college is vital. Excellent work. Is it OK to print the flyer and distribute?

Mr. Spencer, you do wonderful work, but I also know you realize that there are millions of Darwin Candidates not only in America, but the world.
In the tidal wave which slammed Indochina, people with sense ran for their lives.....hundreds of others ran down to the beach to look at the "pretty waves".
Every America does need to know this, but if they can't figure out slashed throats of women on planes and pulverized bodies on 9 11 are a danger.....well you have Darwin Candidates like Rosie O'Donnell.
Stupidity is a good thing as the dinosaurs eat stupidity as much as crocodiles and bears do too. America proved in the last election there are at least 60 million to 240 million stupid Americans. The people who heard 9 11 clearly are searching your site, WND, Drudge, WorldTrib etc... daily for clues and are on the alert. They have heard the clarion call and like our forefathers in the Ohio, the Great Plains and the west understood where there is smoke there is fire.
You will not reach the Darwin Candidate as they are meant to run down to the Islamic ocean and look at the pretty wave which will consume them.

Your ending looked abrupt. You would have done well to continue describing Islamic conquests of Iran, Turan, Khorasan, Sind, as well as their naval expeditions to the East Indies. Other than that, I think this was well written.

I couldn't agree more with J.C. Supercop. You need to target your audience. This MIGHT work at a Clan rally but most emphatically NOT on a university campus.
Do not misunderstand, I absolutely agree with the necessity of educating people about Islam. Sometimes in communication, passion gets in the way of the message and that is the case here.

I sent the link to three friends with whom I have been having little luck trying to inform them of the reality of the threat of Jihad and the desire of Islam to dominate all. All three of them said that although they vaguely remembered some of the attacks highlighted in the video, they thought my obsession, their words, with the supposed threat of Islam was making it uncomfortable for them to associate with me. Oh, and by the way, don't send us any more of your hate filled e-mails. It seems that Americans, in general, are too busy making a living, watching television and/or 'enjoying' themselves to pay attention to what is going on in the world. They don't care very much about the politicians they elect, how they are governed or what is happening to the society. I, for one, am very afraid of the future, not only for myself, but for my son. My daughter is the fourth person to whom I sent the link. She called me a bigoted islamophobe. So it goes(with thanks to Kurt Vonnegut Jr.)

Great work, Robert! the video is stirring (and I am not an "impressionable" college kid), and the pamphlet is superb! Would have done any American Revolutionary (18th Century against George III) proud.
The Carmina Burana (O Fortuna) is wild enough to accompany the images of what jihad has wrought. They are sufficient, no need to keep on pounding away. The viewer/listener gets the message.
The "Mein Kampf" video likewise gets the message across. Many--far too many--are unaware of the long-time connection between Islam and the NAzis.
The term "Islamonazi" covers that, it brings across the unholy "wedlock" between Hitler and Mohammed's spawn.

Coeurmaeghan,
Please see my post above. Passion is a great thing but unless harnessed and used skillfully it can get in the way of the message.
Your audience was turned off by the presentation long before their brains had a chance to engage. Now you will have a much more delicate task in getting them to listen as you gently slip them the facts of Islam.
With some a hammer with others a feather.
at February 21, 2007 10:02 PM
Robert,
Excellent pamphlet.
Will you add a link for it to the Jihad Watch main page? Please do.
Thank you for all your good work- carry on!
at February 21, 2007 10:15 PM
Robert, as far as the vid goes, you need to lose the Hollywood epic music. I know you're trying to inspire a sense of urgency, but your message would be better served by a score that starts pianissimo and, as the threat becomes more and more apparent, builds to a crescendo. You might also allow more time for the viewer to take in each image.
The essay is, as usual, superbly written, but I'm afraid that only the choir will read the sermon. It is essential that the message has a reach beyond "we who know better" and manages to infiltrate the consciousness of the great un-read.
What is needed is a primer; a "Dick and Jane" explanation of Islam, its origins, its history and how it threatens everything from beer to baseball, from Nashville to NASCAR.
Getting the message in libraries is good. We need to get it into laundermats.

Coeurmaeghan,
I know how you feel. A close friend of mine whom I've known for 20 years, who is a very intelligent Greek Orthodox Christian and Master's student in theology, cut off communication with me because he was concerned about my "hate". And my sister and I have become mutually estranged predominantly over this issue, as she has a fascination and attraction for Islamic culture as well as a bleeding heart for their "victim" "grievances". The fault lines of a veritable civil war are coalescing.

Excellent pamphlet. Right up there with Paine's Common Sense (1776). I hope it does as much good.
And on the film, Carmina Burana was the perfect choice, noise wise, even though the words to Carmina Burana if translated would make no connection with the pics!
I sent it to my senators and rep and governor and will send it to others in Congress in the next few days. Recommend everyone do the same, as well as all on your email list.
We should work to get this into the hands of security personnel (our local police, FBI, etc.), and our armed forces, all of whom are being indoctrinated directly or indirectly by CAIR. We need to get it into the hands of our kids in high school and the universities to counter the lies they are being fed by the Islamists and their sympathizers

LITTLE PIECES PLEASE!
I saw a post that said, Islam is so horrible that when you finally see the full picture you almost don’t want to look at it. This was the case for me. I came by my knowledge drip by drip as I read book after book while looking up one aya at a time.
When you confront someone who knows next to nothing, with the full on murderous hate of Islam you will sound like a bigot, an “Islamophobe” a hateful person. It is common for people to confuse the messenger with the message especially if the message is unpleasant.
Quote the Koran and site Sura:Aya so that it is clear that the message is from Allah, and not from you.
A PROMISE OF PARADISE FOR MURDER
9:111 “Verily, of the faithful hath God bought their persons and their substance, on condition of Paradise for them in return: on the path of God shall they fight, and slay, and be slain: a
Promise for this is pledged in the Law, and in the Evangel, and in the Koran - …”
Or the like should do for openers. The point is to not just deliver the message but to craft it so that it is received
at February 21, 2007 11:43 PM
Robert,
The pamphlet is outstanding. Just what we need. A town council here in Ontario, Canada just approved a mosque. Now we have something to fight with. Come on, Canadians, wake up! Do you want sharia instead of the Charter? Don't think it can't happen.

Good video. However, I do have one slight problem with it. Not ONE of the 25 or so listed terrorist attacks listed in the opening scenes was in Israel.
A glaring oversight and I wonder why? Much, if not most of the "Arab-Israeli" conflict is directly a jihad. Why were they omitted?
Especially coming from you, Robert, and David Horowitz, two strong supporters of Israel and recognizers of this fact?

Great work Robert and Dave H. May I add that you should also include Jihadi attacks in other parts of the world such as China, Russia and India. I think these countries also suffered a lot. It would be a great shame not to include their suffering.

Sometimes one wonders about one's position when it is so much different from that of others.
For instance, when the "arab street" seethes, to some (like the poster), it gives hope and relief - one is hitting home, To others, it creates fear - they will rise up and endanger us - which gives credence to the view that the Democrats are cowards (they are).

While i think all the images in the video talk about the true intent of Islam, i resent the fact that there is not one mention of all the terrorist attacks in India, Russia and Thailand. It seems that the video exclusively covers Islamists attack on Western Interests. That is the problem with West's approach to fighting this menace. It does not see it as a universal problem and approaches it only as a problem faced by Western countries. However i do acknowledge and thank Robert for the fact that in the essay, he does mention Hindus as being treated worse than the 'People of the book'

Pamphlet #3: The Islamic Mein Kampf

I have been conducting my own research into islam and what it really stands for. Understanding our enemy and what motivates them to move against us, is paramount to effective planning and our ability to strategically counter-act their efforts. The Bible states, "The sons of Esau will have their hands against their brothers and everyone else, while their brothers and everyone else will have their hands against them."
These islamic fanatics attack their own as well as others. They have begun attacking their own seed by indoctrinating them with lies and falsehoods from before they are even able to walk and talk. This is selfishly begin done so as to create a whole new race of hate. One that will use the heat of islam to evaporate the national borders that exist today throughout the middleeast, rendering the area nto a "Muslim Union".
I recommend that everyone make an effort read the Koran for the purpose of knowing what is in it. Know that it is not a historical text, it uses information from the Holy Bible. It is not broken down into chapters, but into sura's. They are not in chronological order either. The last two sura's written by Mohammed are sura's 5 and 9. Any words of peace written anywhere else in the Koran can be cancelled out in these two Sura's. The way it works is as follows: a favorable text in the Koran can be cancelled out by a later writing on the same subject. For example, if you find where it says, "make peace with your neighbors", and then see where is says, "kill them if they don't accept islam" in a later sura, this later writing cancels out the earlier writing... this is where we are today!
Wake up America and the western world. We are under attack!!!

Lame Cherry:
Although America is clearly headed for disaster with Islam, I disagree with your assertion of this being a "darwinist" matter for the simple reason that millions of Americans have been intentionally lied to by their teachers, the media, our elected officials, and governments of our supposed allied states (that are mostly in an even worse state of denial than we are). Because Islam continues to get the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval by the establishment in America (often by both RIGHT AND LEFT wing), the message is being widely transmitted that Islam really is not the problem. In short, America got set up by the left(which is IN cahoots with Islam).
The most seriously affected are the youths of this country who really have no firsthand way of knowing WHY Islam and Communism are the nightmares they are. Impressions made on youth are often nearly impossible to change. So when youths are taught in elementary school that Islam is peace and America is evil, we have a major PROBLEM on our hands. These people grow up with a handicap--they have NOT been taught how to deal with the real world or to even recognize what is in it. How can we fight Islam under such conditions as this?
Furthermore, it may not even make any difference what Americans think. American people are being betrayed at every turn by th3e establishment. And there is not that much they can do to correct this in the short term--if they can survive the present crisis which is facing us all (not just the losers).
Businesses hire illegal immigrants at the expense of legal citizens; Bush has yet to pass satisfactory legislation to help secure our borders through which known Islamic terrorists are able to get into this country (bringing WMDs with them). US colleges and universities take money from fanatical nations like Saudi Arabia and thin hire quack educators to brainwash their students against America and Judeo-Christianity in favor of Islam. The US nearly had the UAE put in charge of its port facilities recently.
Enemies of the state like the Muslim Brotherhood and the Nation of Islam operate freely in America threatening the lives of millions. The Muslims bortherhood owns vast tracts of housing inAmerica in which they can build their nukes and off millions of Americans who probably would not be able to escape their terrible effects). Venezuela spreads socialist propaganda across America via national TV commercials for CITGO oil.
US car manufacturers STILL manufacture gas-guzzlers forcing us to import petroleum from enemy states in the Third World such as Venezuela and Saudi Arabia.
The establishment in America has stopped being loyal to Americans. And even those who are NOT Darwinist material are still put at risk by the dangerous negligence on the part of the US establishment.
If and/or when we clean all that up, THEN your Darwinism comparisons will have meaning. But not until.
The sword of the prophet hangs over all of us. Not merely the stupid and the weak.

Yup thats how it happened for me. a vague discomfort over the openness of our borders, disbelief over what i heard protesters and clerics say, seeing terrorist attacks on the news and not understanding how people could kill in the name of God. never did it occur to me that it was the Koran at the root of it. Never could it have occurred to me that a religion could be that brutal, that EVIL. The truth is so ugly, so unbelievable, most people just can't accept it. I happened on a few sites, an article here, a book there, my apprehension grew. then i went out and bought a Koran to see for myself. I see now, oh yes. Sometimes i wish i didn't. LAUNDRAMATS NOT LIBRARIES!
To paraphrase “Usbeast “ in his post above. Most who read this blog have the curiosity and energy to do the scholarship and find out the truth about Islam. As the man says we need to reach “the great American unread” and if you don’t approach them gently and in a reasonable manner, most will turn off their brains and confuse YOU with the enemy.
I have great respect for the knowledge and skill of Mr. Spencer and plan to buy his book.
This blog is terrific at expanding my knowledge and it provides a tremendous service to “the choir”.
It is not “the choir” that is in the most desperate need of the knowledge that we possess.

Pythagoras - great post. Especially about the propaganda being fed to our kids currently in school. They are being taught by people who were themselves propagandized by the left, amd brainfed with multiculturalism, relativism, secularism, political correctness, etc.
It is revolting to hear people in the 30-40 age bracket in Washington utter bizarre statements about Islam. A past White House Press Secretary labelled Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood as "just businessmen", or words to that effect.
Reminds of that old mafia expression "Its just business"...boom.
