An update on this story. "More polio cases if resistance continues: NIH, WHO," from the Daily Times, with thanks to Twostellas:
ISLAMABAD: The National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) fear that more polio cases will crop up in the Bajaur and Malakand agencies since workers are denied access to children amid threats by Taliban-backed clerics, Daily Times learnt on Monday.A senior official at the NIH said that health authorities had confirmed yet another polio case in the Nowshera. He said that the polio victim was originally from the Bajaur Agency. In addition, the Health Ministry has also reported three more confirmed polio cases in urban and rural Sindh.
The clerics, including Tehreek Nifaz Shariat-e-Muhammadi (TNSM) leader Maulana Fazlullah and his supporters in the Malakand Agency, have been ‘warning’ people during sermons in mosques or through illegal FM radio stations not to administer polio drops to their children since it was against religious norms and brought infertility. Maulana Fazlullah is the son-in-law of Maulana Sufi Muhammad, ex-chief of the TNSM.
To complete the polio immunisation drive, the WHO and the Ministry of Health are contemplating enlisting the help of the district/tehsil and union council nazims, political and religious leaders, public representatives and tribal elders, sources said.
Some religious leaders in the Bajaur and Malakand agencies are telling the people not to get their children vaccinated since the practice is un-Islamic, and that those that die of polio would be considered martyrs.

The US and all Western countries should ban all travel to their countries by anyone born in Pakistan who cannot conclusively prove they have been vaccinated against polio and don't carry it.
A simple blood test should suffice on both counts.

Pretty soon two things are going to happen:
1. Everything that doesn't reference a verse of the Koran will be considered "un-Islamic."
2. All Muslims who die, just by virtue of being Muslim, regardless of the reason for their death, will be considered martyrs.
Since when the the definition of martyr change from a defensive term to an offensive one? Throughout human history martyrs were killed by their opponents, they didn't take their own lives to murder others.
But I guess with everything else, Islam's turning that on its head too. What a gutter faith.

I just hope our government is not letting people travel here who are not immunized. Does anyone know about this?
What about people from Pakistan (and Nigeria) who go to England and then travel here? Do we track their immunization status?

I don't see how there can be any controversy about polio vaccines. The answer, like tha answers to all life's questions, lies in the holy books. Was Mighty Mo vaccinated against polio? No? QED. Was he vaccinated against anything? No?

Sadly people in this country will not let their children get the MMR vaccine because they believe the preservative the vaccine comes in may cause autism. And I've heard there has been a rise in cases of the mumps in some parts of the country.

Muslim "scholars" also used to declare that those who died of the Black Death were martyrs, specially picked by Allah to enter Paradise.
Almost seven centuries later, the same ignorant mindset persists, even with a disease which is preventable. Unbelieveable. I wonder how they might react to a bird flu pandemic that might kill millions of people, Muslims and infidels, alike.

Perhaps the clerics are up to subtle bit of jihad. By not inoculating the children, the muslim population builds greater resistance to bacteria and viruses and so forth. After 1000 generations of this, they will develop the muslim superbug whose immune systems will resist all plagues and then they can start deliberating plagues among the infidels. What foresight on their behalf!!

If all Muslim countries get on board with the 'no polio shot' program, it will, in time, be a public health threat to the West. Consequently, it may be an entity like the CDC that will finally have a reason to ban travel here by Muslims who have not had a polio immunization.

Y'all need to understand that vaccines in particular and prophylactic medicine in general are not prohibited in Islam. It is only this lie being spread by the Insane Imams that is the problem. This is a prime example of ignorant people being lead by half-wit Islamic preachers. These imams are only using this to stir up infidel hatred, and they don't give one iota how many Pakistani children suffer.
These creatures excel at somehow getting other people to do the dying and suffering. Perhaps these imams know the real truth; martyrdom sucks.

Not only will we have to ban travel to the West by those who haven't been immunized, we will have to ban Western travel to those countries unless you are immunized and deny reentry and put you in quarantine until it can be determined you pose no medical threat.

vaccinations are to prevent to spread of disease. the irrication of polio was almost complete with the effort of the 50's and 60's, however, these people who are trying to control spread of disease only make diseases stronger and more dangerous than if they would have taken their natural course. disease is a natural way to control population which is way out of control.
so what are you basing your opinions on?
while it may seem that the significiance of this issue is fear that leads to violence, in this case a disturbing disease outbreak, maybe we should consider taking precautions against the spread of disease on our soil through infected suicide muslims and transportation sources.
note: the CDC is not a prevention organization, they count cases.

If someone is so stupid as to refuse a vaccine, free of charge that could save them from a crippling disease them let them get polio and become "martyrs".The infidel population should continue to be immunized so that the disease remains only among the Muslims.
What happpened in Nigeria when Muslim morons refused the Polio vaccine while infidels continued to receive vaccinations is that the disease spread among the Muslims.Nigerian Muslims then carried the disease on their pilgrimage to the Hajj spreading the disease further among the umma.Once Nigerian Muslim clerics saw the disease spreading only in their community they relented and allowed vaccination.Refusal of vaccines should also bar Muslims from study and travel in the West.

Reminds of of the recent news that muslims were not sanitizing their hands when visiting patients in UK hospitals -
because the sanitizer has alcohol in it.

TRUE faith in God does not require someone to tell you how many times to pray or how many times to go to the bathroom or whether you should do this or do that.
