Russian FM: Hamas promises end of attacks against Israel

Bridge for Sale! From AP:

The supreme leader of Hamas has promised that the group will end missile attacks and other violence against Israel, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Tuesday.
"Hamas should use its authority to stop violence including missile attacks against Israel," Lavrov said at a news conference after his meeting with Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal.

Vague language, complete with the use of the passive voice to mask just who would be taking those steps:

"We received confirmation that such steps will be taken," Lavrov said.
However, Mashaal said at a separate news conference that the group is not ready to recognize Israel.
Renouncing violence and recognizing Israel are both key demands of international peace negotiators.

And the usual, deliberately vague pledge:

"First of all, Israel has to end its occupation of Palestinian territory and put an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people," Mashaal said when asked about the recognition issue. "When Israel does that, the Palestinian people will make their position clear."
In remarks before his morning meeting with Mashaal, Lavrov called for international support for the power-sharing arrangement between Hamas and Fatah and for lifting an international financial aid blockade against the Palestinian Authority.
However, the Quartet of Middle East peace brokers, which includes Russia, has said recognizing Israel is a key condition for resuming aid. It was not immediately clear if Russia's expression of support for the Hamas-Fatah power-sharing agreement meant it was stepping back from the Quartet demands.

Promises, promises, promises. And of course the world will condem Israel as soon as hamas renigs, and lobs a few missles at Israel. Why the Israelis have not quashed these vermen, I just don't understand.

Peace is like medicine, it goes down bad, but after awhile, the promises are awarded with wealth. I'm sure all the occupational disputes would be resolved, and pull-backs will continue as long as peace is on the table.

You have to admire the chutzpah of Mash-Al though, don't you? They really do work it every which way but loose to get the tap turned back on, and when all else fails, revert to type and start issuing the usual threats.

Mashaal demanded in tougher terms that Washington resume its aid funding: 'The American administration's insistence on the continuation of the blockade will give birth to more hatred toward America

More hatred? How they going to manage that?

Putin is arming Iran, Syria, and Hizbullah with anti-tank rockets, surface-to-air missiles and other sophisticated weapon systems. He is itching to do the same for the Palestinian Arabs if they obtain sovereign status. Russia cares only for hard cash and an opportunity to counter American power in the Middle East; it that sense, it is 1973 and the Cold War redux.

Makes ya wonder what those Russians are drinking all day.

REPLY: Yep...The Potato Juice (that's vodka for those of you in Pittsburgh) is flowing freely in the former USSR! Just how gulable are these Europeans? Like Bob said, anyone want to buy a bridge?

'All Palestinians lands' according to them, includes ALL of Israel, yes?

"First of all, Israel has to end its occupation of Palestinian territory and put an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people," Mashaal said when asked about the recognition issue. "When Israel does that, the Palestinian people will make their position clear."
(from story above)

Personally I can think of several methods of putting an end to the 'suffering of the Palestinian people". They probably would not meet with approval in the State Dept.

Their position, when made clear, will probably not be what Westerners are expecting.

I like how they demand the aid back.
Don't you wish we could tell our elected officals how to spend OUR tax dollars? I think that would be groundbreaking and novel way to run a country.

Oh, wait, didn't that get tried a few hundred years ago?

"Russia cares only for hard cash and an opportunity to counter American power in the Middle East; it that sense, it is 1973 and the Cold War redux."

...did you know the Russians have been beefing up its military forces along its southern borders? The Russians have also been moving missle and anti missile batteries closer to the middle east.......THE Russians like the money, but they like the oil better....

We should start a pool on JW/DW, taking bets, on how long the latest proposed cease-fire by Hamas will last.

These farcical truces routinely "initiated" by Hamas are routinely broken by them as well.

Posted by: awake [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 28, 2007 8:32 AM

No more money to the palestinians, pure and simple. I don't care who is their boss-PLO, Hamas, Bozo the Clown. No more money to palestine. Period.
They want money, let them get it from their Saudi brothers. At least then the money will only come indirectly from the US.

Russia has become a big disappointment and they really should know better. They've gone from the extreme of communism to the extreme of making a buck by selling anything and everything the scum of the world wants. One day the cesspoolians will thank them with a variation of 9/11 because gratitude is the last thing any rational person should expect from the world of Islamania.

The looming evil strike on Iran

Monday February 26, 2007 (1832 PST)

a.stag@shaw.ca
Never mind about the world’s men of peace and peace feelers as they don’t matter any more for the bellicose belligerents. Never mind about the moral grounds as money buys it all, right or wrong, in today’s world of sin. Never mind about your own expression of supporting the right in the media as this media may not be even read by ignore it all masters of the world. Never mind about the right peace path directed to America by the Democrats and sensible Republicans as one robot Bush, whose keys lie in Tel Aviv, is powerless. Never mind about giving any value to your wishful thoughts about peace and expecting change of heart in Tel Aviv or Washington D.C as the things may have already gone to the stage of no return. Never mind about reading even American media as it belongs to the dustbins of Tel Aviv. This media has already been dangerously brain washed to talk freely about dropping hydrogen bombs on a non nuclear Islamic Iran as if they were toys.

The decision making about strike on Iran, including the sinful nuclear strikes on a non nuclear Islamic nation lies in Israel and there is restlessness in that world controlling media about why the strike was not done yesterday and why it has not been done so far.

The world is very dangerous and is on the doorstep of world war three or Armageddon if the Shanghai accord steps in to save Iran as well as its own survival. Other wise it will be the slaughter of an innocent Islamic nation for now and later followed by finishing off of Shanghai accord along with the slightest possession of nukes by any Islamic nation. Russia and China must kiss their own survival off few years down the road if the looming strike on Iran does get carried through. The Armeda of carriers and firepower sailing in Persian gulf and around Iran is very formidable and can be poised for even nuclear provocation.

Israel prodded actions of Bush have passed the threshold where only a miracle can bring us back to where we were and aspire for peace again. The world faces a very grim Armageddon and some how the innocent weak had seen the other powerful to their rescue after tremendous damage. I would’nt want to live in or near Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman or even Abu Dhabi due to their very close proximity to strait of Harmouz. All these areas will be toast if things get too ugly.

And Pakistan, please hide your nukes as deep as you can where a nuclear strike cannot even damage them. Musharraf need not think that his buttressing with America or Israel will cause any sympathy with those Islamic nukes, which are the most undesired even for their existence in the eyes of the disguised friends.

The world faces grim dangers, even its survival, as result of nuclear strike. The world may die of financial crash beyond repair. The world’s economies may even become dysfunctional with wide spread death, economic collapse, famine, starvation and dog eat dog culture with doomsday scenario.

But, who cares as you can burry this planet to save one Israel, which already is overly saved from any dangers.

Pakistan, please embrace China for peace reasons. Invigorate your peace and normalization efforts with India as there is too much in common to compromise.

Try to save as much of Asia’s east and north of you along with self, if the west of you starts burning. Pakistan, please take your nukes as deep as you can under the most protective mountains in the world of yours.

The world will be lucky if it can reverse the shape of things to come as the threshold has already passed what it was before first or Second World War.

There is not much the world can do as the elected president of the world’s most powerful nation is just a robot with keys in Tel Aviv.

THE VERY WORD PEACE HAS BEEN BURRIED MERCILESSLY.

Attack on Iran will be crime against humanity only to feel sorry by all with sighs by surviving, if any, as such:

"First of all, Israel has to end its occupation of Palestinian territory and put an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people," Mashaal said when asked about the recognition issue. "When Israel does that, the Palestinian people will make their position clear."

You're on the money, auntbea. As always, the Palestinians demand that Israel do all the heavy lifting before they will even show their hand. What's in the cards will the same as it has always been. More broken promises, more hudna, more taqqiya and more demands without the least reciprocity. Some zingers from the article linked in thomas ato's useful post:

(Link: http://news.monstersandcritics.com/middleeast/news/article_1270101.php/Mashaal_warns_of_"open_battle%E2%80%9C_with_Israel_hatred_of_US__Roundup_%E2%80%9D%20title=)

'The Arab and Islamic world need a fundamental change in the politics of the Quartet,' Mashaal said ...

As in; "These infidel moneybags are kissing Islamic @ss with insufficient alacrity!"

"Mashaal added that the 'Arab world demands' the international community react positively to an agreement Hamas struck earlier this month with rival faction Fatah in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, that promised to pave the way for a future Palestinian unity government. "

Mashaal demands a positive reaction from the Quartet, despite having met exactly zero of their requirements. Typical Muslim approach. Pretend to make meaningless concilliatory gestures without committing to an iota of substantive progress. Mashaal needs to join Yassin and Rantissi for a nice long dirt nap.

Mashaal demanded in tougher terms that Washington resume its aid funding: 'The American administration's insistence on the continuation of the blockade will give birth to more hatred toward America not only ... on a Palestinian level but on an Arab, Islamic level.'

Since it is not possible for America to be hated by Islam any more than it currently is, Meshaal's threat is as empty as his bank account. As always, the Palestinians demand unilateral concessions without the slightest promise of reciprocity.

It remains a mystery why Israel has yet to simply cut off electrical power and water supplies to the Palestinian Terrortories. The Palestinains would have Abbas and his whole gang of thugs roasting over an open fire within days

I talked to a Jew and he told me, they're not going to pull out the lawn chairs anytime soon. Besides, Russia was just allowed into the WTO and I guess politically, they'd say anything just to make themselves look rational and unsuspecting. I wonder if they're still selling dynamite to those idiots over there ?

Anwar Mahmood sounds desperate....maybe he realizes Islam is beginning to suffer badly...
