Tariq Ramadan forced to retract defamatory statements

Tariq Ramadan is the world-renowned moderate Muslim who was barred from entering the U.S. because, according to Jean-Charles Brisard (thanks to Sr. Soph), of his support for Hamas. He denies any links to terror groups; however, it is noteworthy that he had to retract statements denying Brisard's allegations against him:

On February 21, 2007, an Islamic website posted an article containing the following comment of Tariq Ramadan regarding my allegations against him: “Brisard knowingly disseminates false allegations against me since years”.

I threatened to file a criminal complaint in France against Tariq Ramadan and expose every single document proving my allegations. So, on March 5, 2007 he retracted his defamatory statement.

During a face to face debate I had with him on Swiss TV in December 2003, I’ve already provided evidence to support my claims. But Ramadan, as usual, denied everything.

Since then, Tariq Ramadan was denied entry to the United States on grounds of “providing material support to a terrorist organization” through donations to organizations supporting Hamas.

As I’ve reported earlier, lots of evidence, ranging from criminal prosecutions to intelligence and police reports, support the fact that Tariq Ramadan has been in contact with several well-known terrorists in Europe during the last 20 years.

Incidentally, Al-Jazeera contacted me several weeks ago asking me to participate in a panel discussion on women in Islam with Asra Nomani and Tariq Ramadan. I agreed to do it, and as I was traveling at the time, gave them several possibilities for remote videolinks in the area where I was, but after that they never got back to me. I know that some anti-jihadists have declined to appear on Al-Jazeera, and I understand their perspective, but I think it is a good opportunity to offer a differing perspective from the one they're used to. I'd still be happy to discuss pressing matters of the day with Tariq Ramadan.

It's ok to lie. The end justifies the means.

OT

I saw this posted in a comment on LGF, regarding a mass Anti-Islam demonstration. Spread it far and wide

Although IMHO the chances of it being allowed to happen are pretty remote.

...it is hard say why al-jazeera faded away....could be they had more pressing priorities like covering Ahmadinejads conference with the Syrian prez...or they may have actually picked up one of your books and actually read it and had second thoughts about actually discussing Muslim women with a man who understands Islam probably better than they do....

...you da man....

Well if you appear on Al-Jazeera please wear a flak jacket and some asbestos underware.

In all seriousness, that would be a big step for Al-Jazeera to have you on a panel.

"Since then, Tariq Ramadan was denied entry to the United States "

...This is the proper way to handle Muslims....

as an american who has learned arabic and spends a considerable amount of time listening to al-jazeera i would urge you to take any opportunity to develop your relationship with their correspondents in washington and to appear on either their arabic or english channels anytime you are invited. contrary to its reputation, many of al-jazeera's interviewers are fair and conduct their interviews in depth. i can guarantee that you would have more opportunity to express your opinions on al-jazeera than most muslims would on bill o'reilly or hannity and colmes.

Tariq Ramadan is a muslim. He is also a pathological liar.

Am I being redundant?

Using the videolink is a good idea, but an even better idea is for someone to set up a permanent, secure proxy link for antijihadists doing live video interviews and broadcasts. That way, if Spencer or Pipes or someone is in Princeton (or wherever) they can use the video link capabilities on campus without widely advertising where they are, piped to the proxy. AlJaz or whoever can hook up through the proxylink; only the people running the proxy need know your actual location.

The extra effort and caution may be worthwhile in the long run. We don't need to lose Spencer any time soon to some college student with a sudden attack of SJR (sudden jihad syndrome) while watching his favourite middle-eastern station.

An added benefit: the proxy would, of course, have to have access to the full broadcast and can archive a complete digital record, making the work of MEMRI etc. much easier. Also you'll get better quality footage this way.

So in a way it is ok to call him a moderate Muslim when he is trying to get into America, but among his terrorist buddies he takes exception to be called moderate by filthy western infidels.

Archimedes2, that's some damn good advice!

The definition of a "Moderate Muslim" is a lie in the first place, what else would you expect ? Oh, I see, if it isn't like Danny Peril's head rolling on the floor, then he must be a moderate muslim ?

Give me a break with the compassionate words.

I like Archimedes2's idea. Surely there must be some JW reader who can arrange this.

We also need to get Mr. Spencer a popemobile.

Terrorfreak Ramadan has come clean like he should'a done.

Ramadan is soon likely to get his comeuppance at the hands of Daniel Pipes as well, for having completely distorted something Pipes said at the debate between Pipes and Red Ken Livingstone.

If Ramadan is the cream of "progressive" Muslim intellect as Mark MacKinnon wrote in the SAt. Mar. 10/07 edition of the [Toronto] Globe and Mail, in an article about the growing number of ex-pat Turks, Iranians and other immigrants from Muslim countries, who take exception to Germany classifying them as "Muslim", is it any wonder the Umma is as dysfuntional as it is?
