Tape of Padilla interrogation is missing

Keystone Kops Alert. By Curt Anderson for Associated Press (thanks to Sr. Soph):

MIAMI - A videotape showing Pentagon officials' final interrogation of al-Qaida suspect Jose Padilla is missing, raising questions about whether federal prosecutors have lost other recordings and evidence in the case.

The tape is classified, but Padilla's attorneys said they believe something happened during that interrogation that could explain why Padilla does not trust them and suspects they are government agents.

Padilla attorney Anthony Natale said in court papers that the March 2, 2004, interrogation at the Navy brig in Charleston, S.C., could contain information the government conveyed to Padilla that "directly impacts upon his relationship with his attorneys."

Prosecutors and the Pentagon have said they cannot find the tape despite an intensive search.

I will wager if a US sailor was being interrogated at the Navy brig in Charleston, S.C., any tapes they had would never be lost....something fishy here......

I wonder if it has something to do w/ interdepartmental communications. For example, sharing of info between nsa/fbi/cia/oni etc.

See....The US has screwed up this Padilla case from day one.....They should have either imprisoned him legally immediately (carrying explosives on an airliner) or deported/exiled him immediately....did you ever look at his photograph, spaced out freak....we are waisting time and money and could end up setting him free....Only in America....Maybe he could get to Judge Aishas court where he could free just because.....

...Where is Judge Roy Bean when you need him?..

And there is wonder about the continuing faith we have in our government?

To me of course, he should be making gravel at Ft. Levenworth KS and screw the trial and rights stuff.

If we mess up the evidence, why the trial? Take no prisoners, they have all tried to escape. All you have to do is shout "Halt" three times before you fire. And you can shout "Halt" three times very fast!

In Iraq, the Muslims frequently take prisoners, usually it takes about one day to find the tortured, executed bodies....

Interesting in some of the posters are just as paranoid as Padilla in thinking it is all some kind of plot.
Things do happen in life and yes even the CIA does make things disappear, but Padilla is a lunatic to begin with and defense attorneys are paid to muddy the waters and lie like the devil to get people thinking of something besides Padilla was going to murder Americans in mass.

That is the evidence that matters.

Is it just me or dubya should be impeached? http://www.serendipity.li/impeachment.htm

Just speculation, but his attorneys claim the missing interrogation (the last one) has something to do with the fact that he will not cooperate with his current lawyers. Maybe they told him that he was finally getting lawyers, then two new CIA agents he had not seen before marched in claiming to be his lawyers. It might have convinced him to spill whatever beans he had -- but the CIA wouldn't want that deception on tape. So, the tape was "lost." Just speculation.

How comforting to learn that the US government has our best interests at heart, seeing that they have made a top priority of ensuring the professional legal handling of a jihadist who had been plotting to murder tens of thousands of US citizens....

I doubt it is just you, there are bound to be more out there. Is BDS an APA recognized affliction yet? We need to help however we can.

I think it was the Arabic interpreter who took the tape. What? padilla speaks English? What makes you think that little detail would get in their way?

Anyone who has read my posts on Jihad Watch knows I'm no fan of Jihad =) My country, right or wrong. I believe it.

But I did smile at this news story about the 'missing tape.' Perhaps one of the last talks got a bit out of hand.

Nixon should have burned his tapes. Next to the stupidity of rebuilding Iraq, the next worst decision was allowing our GI prison guards to carry video cameras. Somethings should not be published. Sometimes, mistakes are better off lost.

Personally, if I could question UBL if we ever caught him, when the cameras were off, I might bitch slap him accross the face. No, I'm not in favor of behading, or torture, but sometimes a good slap to the face is what the Dr. ordered. I might bitch slap Dr. Aymen as well.

Maybe the boys got a bit disgusted after those 87 tapes of stonewalling; I wouldn't blame 'em.

What a waste of time and money this whole case has been. Get the mofo to Gitmo and be done with it. He's about as innocent as Bin Laden-even his lawyers probably know it. Let him rot.
