HARDLINE international students have wrested control of a major NSW mosque, ousting the local cleric amid accusations the group is rapidly converting followers to extremist Islam.Up to 150 university students from Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Egypt who follow the fundamentalist Wahabbism ideology were central to the overthrow at the weekend of the executive board of the Newcastle Muslim Association.
Deposed association president Yunus Kara yesterday accused the students of pushing for new leadership of the port city's mosque in order to advance their own extremist agenda and continue "brainwashing" local Muslims.
"The international students have used their puppets to come forward and dictate," Mr Kara told The Australian.
"They're driving them to whatever ideology that (suits them). Their ideology is extremism ... but they teach under the banner of Islam."
But the association's newly elected treasurer, Michael Cawley, denied the claims of the ousted leadership, accusing them of labelling opponents Wahabbis.
Mr Cawley, a convert, said the international students were merely visitors to the mosque and had no control over the new leadership.
"Basically, what happened is anyone who didn't agree with the (former) president's point of view were labelled Wahabbi," said Mr Cawley. "It's unfair."
Newcastle Mosque's deposed imam, Bilal Kanj, who was also voted out on the weekend, said while the students openly denied their Wahabbi beliefs and radical Koranic interpretations, they were converting people during prayer group meetings and other religious gatherings.
"If you were to ask them, they will deny they're Wahabbi," said the Australian-born cleric, who moved to Newcastle three months ago to work as a full-time spiritual leader.
"They play it very discreetly. We've been studying them all of our life and we know how to spot them very easily."
Mr Kara said the international students were aged between 20 and 30, and were known to make home visits to members of the port city's 600-strong Muslim population to preach their beliefs.
This home preaching may suggest that the appointment of a new imam is not an immediate priority of the new leadership.
Mr Kara said radical students had gathered more support over the past two years after they had begun to flock the mosque in larger numbers.
He said an absence of proper religious leadership at Newcastle Mosque over the past 30 years - prior to Sheik Bilal's appointment - also meant the students could exploit the void to spread their own ideologies.
Sheik Bilal said the students were becoming more proficient at spreading their isolationist messages.
"During my presence here it was very, very quick," he said.

Putting the vitriol aside (yes I mean you Fanculo), this is a serious situation, on a number of fronts, not least of which is that the mainstream media apart from "the Australian" appears to have missed this item.
We do have a problem here with letting people into the country to study, then letting them go underground or find someone to shack up with and get defacto status so they can stay.

I'm with fanculo!! We ARE at war! The usual rules DO NOT apply!! We cant afford to stress over being polite or worry over how we'll look to the world. The followers of the false prophet, Mohammed, dont care how they look. We shouldnt, either.
Then again, km made an excellent point, as well. They have the MSM on their side. No matter what they do, to the world, they'll be made to look like noble warriors of truth and justice. Any attempts to expose reality will be met with swift condemnation by the MSM, if not buried, altogether.

The left have more to lose than the right under Sharia law. but figuring out liberal thinking is as difficult as understanding Islamic thinking. I'm seeing a disturbing trend of the terms "Wahhabi" and "extremist" being used more and more to excuse away the behavior of violent Muslims and insulate the "moderate majority".
Meanwhile, CAIR is hard at work poisoning the minds of United States teachers and students right under our noses, equating being Muslim with that of being a victim of racism, filing lawsuits against individual U.S. citizens for calling out those Imams at U.S. Airways, and spreading their lies across national television and the Net.
This is classic good cop/bad cop and victimizer crying 'victim!' and it's working for the Islamists very, very well at the moment.
Don't be fooled. Any "true Muslim", as I now coin them -- meaning they actually believe in the Qur'an and the Hadith -- can suddenly become your enemy. This is not a war against a minority. 'Long Wars' that last generations for the one remaining Superpower and her allies can not possibly be against a ghost army of 1,000's of 'insurgents' -- we are so very obviously in a full-blown war of ideologies, religion and politics on a scale that is pitting the Islamic World vs Everyone else and yet we have so many trying to divert our attention from the obvious, horrible truth.
And this is why I blog. This is why I type this right now. This is why none of us can ever cease educating ourselves, understanding the "true Muslim" mindset and preparing for the inevitable epiphany that the Western and non-Muslim worlds will one day undergo.

Finally, let me add, that I see Wahabbism as the "true" face of Sunni Islam. Wahabbism is Islam in its true, unadulterated state, the "ancestral" way.
Between the Sunnia and Shia, I dislike the Sunnis more. They are the head head-choppers and hate-mongers.
But the Shia pride themselves because they are the repository of the Fiend Muhammad's DNA. Can you imagine? Complete moral degenerates!

Everyone needs to understand that what that filthy rat did was an open attempt at instigating murder. Plaster that filthy rats picture all over the net, turn him into a man about town by posting his pic with a short summary of his crimes. These people would offer us all up for the slaughter, there is nothing we can do to them that would be considered too harsh. As a matter of fact he deserves to have a flame thrower taken to his filthy rear. This is war and some of the enemies are not islamists, they are the lowest of the low in our societies. How many women and small girls would be spared a life of misery if this rat went up in a sizzling pyre? The time for turning the other cheek is passed. If I am interfereing by stating my opinions then my opinions must be a lot more powerful then I thought they were. By the way, ethnic slurs won't change what I say. Except to add that the enemy likes to create divisions and exploit them - as they've been doing ever since islam began. Their pattern has become more clear ever since islamofascism actively hit our shores and could no longer be ignored.

Guys.. Thanks for your support. Indeed we are at war and only one side is fighting. I couldn't even come close to the vitriol that the jihadists spew on a continual basis, FYI. All of us combined are but a tiny whisper in contrast to the NOISE on the other side. That's not just islam but the entire MSM and the Left included.

Yes isn't it weird what's going on here? Prior to this we had no problem vilifying and ridiculing the enemy. On all sides. And lasting through the Cold War.
Now we call the war by THEM on us - which is what it really is - the 'war on terror'. Blah blah blah. Just like on Peanuts.
We blame Israel and thus ourselves. Let's face it Israel is our stand-in over there. They are looked on by the moslems as European non-moslems. If they were an Official Christian Nation the howling of the wolfpack would be just the same.
Therefore they are US. Yet WE give money and aid to the enemies of Israel - who are our own enemies.

This article was very hard to find in "The Australian" without the JW link. I have noticed almost-daily stories concerning Australia and most are found here not in the MSM,,no surprises!
I am concerned with ALL countries who are represented on this site. We all should be.

Shiva - this is indeed a very serious situation. There are no words to express how utterly despicable this journalist is. I'm not sure what we should do. Writing an email to him isn't going to do anything. So right now the rage is merely percolating at a low boil. Maybe other posters feel the same way right now.

That's not a name we're going to forget soon. The question is - how does one set about destroying someone's career? It's not something I've ever felt motivated to do before although I've known people who wanted to do it to someone. Now I understand the sentiment. What a scumbag. Is there any better way to try to accomplish that goal than spreading the word on blogs? Is there a website devoted to the issue of bringing egregious journalistic ethical violations to the attention of other journalists who would then blackball him? I don't know. But surely something can be done to destroy this man’s career as a journalist - someone who, as tgusa has pointed out, has essentially set the sheik up for murder and is not unlike those who informed on the Jews back in the 30's/40's.

So we naturally, we pay attention to the Wahhabists while the moderates quietly undermine our liberties unnoticed.
They are building a scarecrow. A strawman to busy us while they continue toward their objectives unchallenged.
Once the Wahhabis become sufficiently villified as to become ineffective as a tool of distraction, the sufis or salafists or (insert your sect of convenience here)will become the new strawman and the process will continue unabated until or unless we wake up.
Thanks to sites like yours and this one I think folks are slowly (ever so, perhaps too slowly) becoming aware.

Whenever and wherever any anti jihadist is threatened in any way all other AJs who are able must come to their aid. That is the way the enemy operates, they also seek to isolate and destroy any of us who speak out. We must not allow that to happen, there is strength and power in numbers. An added bonus is that when we stand up for our own others will see this and in some cases, hopefully many cases join us. If they observe that when the islamists attack we scatter, they will see it for what it is, weakness. Who wants to be part of a weak movement?

That is the whole calculus of Islam! It's a collectivist mob mentality! Wait until westerners figure out that as soon as you cross one Muslim, the guy will instantly text-message 30 more of his friends to beat the living s**t out of you!
We westerners don't think like that. We are individualists trusting in the laws that have been created by other individualists to protect us as individuals. The mentality of the tribe hasn't heretofore existed in our societies. It's coming now though! Once it devolves into tribal violence though it will be too late. And so as you point out, we need to rely on the strength and power of our numbers NOW, while we still can, to have a non-violent influence on the course of events. Infidels way outnumber Muslims at this point but as many have pointed out, a small number of committed and ruthlessly violent people have managed many times in the historical past to seize control from the majority. Throw in a few morally unprincipled turncoats situated in high places and the process is greatly accelerated. At this point I'm thinking that the average westerner, accustomed to thinking in terms of largely peaceful, democratic majorities, hasn't a clue about the historical reality of violently disposed minorities actually succeeding in wresting control of political institutions from a more pacifistic majority. That's why they dismiss those concerned about Islam as "paranoid". They need to read their history.

As far as I know, or it was reported here, the mobile ( US - cell) phone was used extensively, not only in the pack rapes, but also during the so-called Cronulla riots.
I also read on a local 'blog this is being used extensivley to conduct attacks whenever they want.
I MUST mention the fact that the locals are also doing this now I believe. It's a new weapon.
They use it to detonate bombs, and now it's a means to raise an "army" in a hurry.
