Israeli Nuclear Arms May Face U.N. Focus

"A veiled reference to Israel, the proposal came from Indonesia and was supported by Qatar and other members of the council." Big surprise there. By Benny Avni in the New York Sun, with thanks to Sr. Soph:

UNITED NATIONS — As the Security Council struggled to maintain unity on dealing with Iran yesterday, some of the 15 members tried to change the subject by proposing to inject Israel into the Iran issue.

Iran, meanwhile, ratcheted up its rhetoric yesterday, indicating that it may withdraw from the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, which obligates it to remain free of nuclear weapons.

"Until today, what we have done has been in accordance with international regulations," said Tehran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. "But if they take illegal actions, we too can take illegal actions and will do so."

While Iran considers the council's demand that it suspend all its uranium enrichment activities "illegal," and while its top mullahs scoff at council resolutions, President Ahmadinejad has asked to address the council once it is ready for a vote on a new resolution. In his council address, Mr. Ahmadinejad is expected to raise Israel's reported nuclear arsenal.

[...]

One stumbling block was a newly proposed reference to a Middle East free of weapons of mass destructions.

A veiled reference to Israel, the proposal came from Indonesia and was supported by Qatar and other members of the council. The only public opposition came from America.

European diplomats who spoke on condition of anonymity told The New York Sun that they could accept such an amendment.

Big surprise there too.

What's all the fuss about? Israel has never declared itself a nuclear power while Iran's nuclear program is peaceful.

Funny thing is, I've never lost any sleep knowing that Israel actually does have nukes since they have had responsible (if at times rather stupid) governments. Iran's "peaceful" nukes program should give any sane person cause for concern, since for the last 30 years lunatics have been running the place and since its current leader has stated endlessly his goal of wiping out Israel.

Naturally, the goal here is to strip Israel of its only deterrent against overwhelming forces surrounding it. Perhaps that's why Europe likes this idea-strip Israel of nukes so then it can be wiped out so quickly by conventional forces that
"The Jewish Problem" is finally solved and everyone can live happily ever after.

Wel can thank Olmert for that slip that Israel has nukes.

You stated the situation perfectly, Islamisforlosers, especially the part about the solution of the "Jewish problem" for Europe. Of course, there will still be a "Jewish problem" in Europe itself, even if Israel is destroyed. That won't please Europe's Muslim masters and, even if Israel is destroyed, the Europeans will have to come up with an acceptable solution for those "problem" people in their midst. Their overlords will demand nothing less...

Are they referring to Muslims?

That'll be good. Send Condi over to make Israel disarm so that Prez Mahmoud will stop the trouble.

Wonder what'd happen then? Here's a hint:

"I fear this change of circumstance may end up overtaking us." So Allah replied, "He will be sorry for his thoughts. True believers perform prostrations, they pay the tax, they bow in homage, and renounce their agreements with the Jews. They are Hezbollah—Allah's Party."

First of all, Israel is not a signatory to the non-proliferation treaty so there's no legal basis to demand they dismantle their nuclear weapons. Second, the willingness of the Europeans to buy into this moral equivalency is disgusting.

I guess Israel will have to start flying this flag under their own.

the only country in the ME that has actually threaten nuclear war have been muslim, particularly iran. these idoit muslims are usually just trying to deflect their own miserable problems and warfare on non muslim (infidel) countries, ie Israel, US, etc.

I think the enemies of Israel in the ME are getting dangerously close to causing Israel to substantially deplete their nuclear weapons stocks.

The UN can't agree on how to reel Iran in, so they shift focus away to someone else, Israel of course. After all they have to appear to be doing something and earning their money. What a joke.

Of course the spineless cheese-eaters of Europe are going to play the silent partner to Islam's genocidal plots against Israel.

Petro prices are too high right now, silly.

Let Iran murder ten million Jews in the Levant and oil prices will come down. Then there'll be plenty of cheese to go around on the continent.
