In Overture to Iran, Qaddafi Declares North Africa Shi'ite and Calls for Establishment of New Fatimid State

Qaddafi backs what appears to be, especially in the wake of the British hostages affair, the strong horse. From MEMRI:

On March 31, 2007, Libyan leader Mu'ammar Qaddafi called, in a speech in Niger to Tuareg tribal leaders , for the establishment of a second Shi'ite Fatimid state in North Africa, after the model of the 10th-13th century empire that ruled North Africa, Egypt, and parts of the Fertile Crescent. In his speech, Qaddafi denounced the division of Muslims into Sunni and Shi'ite as a colonialist plot, and rebuked the Arab League members for "hating Iran."

At the beginning of the month, on March 1, 2007 – the eve of the anniversary of the coup that brought the Libyan Free Officers to power – Qaddafi gave a speech in which he denied the existence of a non-Arab Berber people (this also being a colonialist plot), provoking protest among Berbers and supporters of minority rights in the Middle East and North Africa.

The following are excerpts from Qaddafi's speeches:

"Colonialism… Has Begun to Group the Arabs Against Iran and Iran Against the Arabs"

"… Today there is a divide [in the Islamic world] that we must acknowledge, and we must know who is deepening it. Perhaps it is colonialism, the enemy of Islam, the enemy of the Arabs, the enemy of the Persians, that is deepening it…

"They have divided Islam into two Islams, and there came to be Shi'ite Islam and Sunni Islam. This is a forbidden innovation [bid'a]… When did Muhammad say: 'I have brought you Shi'ite Islam and Sunni Islam?...

"As a consequence of this, they have now begun to group the Arabs against Iran and Iran against the Arabs, and then Shi'ites against Sunnis and Sunnis against Shi'ites.

"Are we Muslims, or are we Shi'ites and Sunnis?! For whose benefit is this? It is for the benefit of the 'other' that we are speaking about, for the benefit of the enemy, for the benefit of colonialism.

[...]

"The Fatimid state arose in the beginning of the 10th century, and it formed an umbrella over North Africa, and under its banner all of the tribal, denominational, political, and ethnic differences fused, and they all became one single Fatimid identity, which lasted 260 years and extended as far as the Arab East.

[...]

"Now people say to us that the Shi'ites are in Iran and that Shi'ite means Persians, and Sunni means Arabs. This is a lie. This is deceit. Those who say this are ignoramuses who do not know history.

"To the contrary, the first Shi'ite state arose in North Africa. The Fatimid state was the first Shi'ite state…"

"In North Africa… go anywhere and ask them about their customs and traditions. They are all Shi'ite customs and traditions.

"[They include] the celebration of the 'Ashura, the sorrow on the 'Ashura and the remembrance of the 'Ashura and our lord [sayyidna] 'Ali; the very extensive stories about our lord 'Ali, and being the party of [tashayyu' l-] our lord 'Ali.

"[The North Africans] do not know Mu'awiya ['Ali's rival and the founder of the Umayyad dynasty]. From Egypt to the Atlantic Ocean, there is not a single person named Mu'awiya. They are all named 'Ali, Fatima, Khadija, Hassan, Hussein, etc.

[...]

"When we come to religious authority… have [people] not gotten themselves into a mess and said that the Sunnis are against the Shi'ites and the Arabs against the Persians? Who holds to this view? It is the foreign occupation and the Zionist settlement that brought this.

[...]

"North Africa is Arab and Shi'ite… The Shi'ite Fatimid state arose in North Africa, and not in Iran. We want to revive it once again. We direct a renewed call to all of the forces in the first Fatimid state to revive [it in] a modern, second Fatimid state – on the condition that it be free of all of the sectarian conflicts and [the debate about] the Imamate and [religious] rule [hakimiyya] and the sophistry of old…

Read it all.

I see a big push by Iran to claim leadership in the Islamic world and mass conversion to the Shiite brand of Islam. Taking the British sailors was part of this push. Muslims world wide now have a greater respect for Iran and will be more open to Shi'ite preachers

Qaddafi has it spot on. At our seder all we talked about, late into the night, was our part in conjuring up the sunni-shiite divide. It is so clear that Jews invented this. The blood-matzohs were delicious, too!

Every loser of the last 3 decades will be coming out of the woodwork. Qadddafi, the mouse that roars, if this is a sign of who will be backing the strong horse I say, great!

Hey Qadafi, you funny!

"… Today there is a divide [in the Islamic world] that we must acknowledge, and we must know who is deepening it. Perhaps it is colonialism, the enemy of Islam, the enemy of the Arabs, the enemy of the Persians, that is deepening it…"

or perhaps it is the morally degenerate nature of the Arab character so eloquently expressed thousands of years ago in the Hebrew Bible:

11 The angel of the LORD also said to her:
"You are now with child
and you will have a son.
You shall name him Ishmael, [a]
for the LORD has heard of your misery.

12 He will be a wild donkey of a man;
his hand will be against everyone
and everyone's hand against him,
and he will live in hostility
toward [b] all his brothers."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the sunni/shia split happen long before "colonialism" existed? But hey, this is going to make for some very unhappy Wahabi's.

Let the battle begin or continue, or restart or whatever, so long as they kill each other.

Posted by: walterc [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 6, 2007 11:13 AM

What a guy! He decries the Shia-Sunni split as a colonial conspiracy of some unknown origin. He then immediately proclaims that North Africa is Arab and Shiite.

"North Africa is Arab and Shi'ite" Yeah, before that it was Christian and a nice place to raise a family.

All through the first years of the Iraq invasion, Qaddafi kept his yap shut. Now that it appears that we don't know feces from fettucini, he is strutting his stuff. He senses a vacuum and he is determined to fill it with Moamar.

What I see from this is how central religion is to these guys. He is saying that it not that people shouldn't kill each other because of religious differences; it's just that these differences aren't the ones to fight over. In other words, a fundamentally different perspective than the Western view, which is tolerate of different religions.

I recall a Catholic oracle I believe which predicts Libya will make a military push at Europe in the last days.
Interesting Pajama Ghadaffi keeps hanging around and his junior king heir is dating a Jewish actress and putting out policy papers for the ending of the Jewish state. His version is to let the Philistines out vote Jews to end the Israeli state.

Of course it is all a Jewish plot though, even when Muhammed was murdering, raping and selling women and children into slavery from vanquished Jews....it was all the Jews allowing themselves to be abused.
(That is satire for the not too bright.)

Dang! Colonialists in Arabia in the mid-7th century already!

Influencing the Sunnis and Shi'ite to schism over the mantle of power (AKA: paleo-Mafia loot and control) and to fight to the death ever since?

What foresight!

The speech is wonderful, and deserves close attention, even if Qaddafi is -- Qaddafi. Two of three fissures of Islam are laid bare in the speech: the sectarian (Sunni-Shi'a, for the adherents of Ibadiyya Islam outside of Omana and a few scattered pockets in North Africa, hardly matter), and the ethnic (Arab vs. non-Arab, which in Iraq means Kurds but in North Africa means Berbers).

Here is one quote to relish:

"Qaddafi gave a speech in which he denied the existence of a non-Arab Berber people (this also being a colonialist plot), provoking protest among Berbers and supporters of minority rights in the Middle East and North Africa."

This should be widely publicized and discussed in France, where Berbers, or some of them, have the freedom to begin to see Islam, just a bit, from a different perspective, have the freedom to read their celebrated writer Kateb Yacine (who hated the Arabs for their arabization of Berber culture), to begin to recognize thatthe Arabs have used Islam as a natural vehicle of their own cultural and linguistic (and political and economic) imperialism, and that they, the Berbers have been among their main non-Arab victims.

Until they protested, and protested violently, Berbers in the Kabyle were denied the right even to use their own language. The riots in such places as Tizi-Ouzou never made it into the non-French press. The Arabs of Algeria have now relented on that point, but they are surely alarmed, or some of them are, that the Berbers of the Kabyle are also converting, in some numbers, to Christianity, and that in France, it is Berbers who form the membership of "maghrebins laiques" and Berbers who have dared to openly apostasize or criticize Islam. This is to be encouraged, so that Berbers, by leaving Islam altogether (and how many of those who call themselves "Arabs" in North Africa, and persecute the Berbers, are in fact of Berber origins themselves? There are clear markers for this -- see the paper by G. Semana and others studying the DNA of Berbers and Arabs in Tunisia-- and that too may be useful).

I dont blame the sailors that were takenn hostage, I blame the commander of the mothership who chose to not offer them support.

The Royal Navy didnt fire at the Iranian boats because they were afraid of causing an international incident. Of course the Iranian thugs had no such worries. In fact, they've repeatedly attacked and abducted Iraqi fishing boats from Iraqi waters before. Nothing was ever done about it, because it would have caused an 'international incident'.

Un-fucking un-believable cowardice.

I will try to find an English-language sitea bout the Berbers, but here's what I grabbed first:

BERBERES

Mauritanie : 400.000
Tunisie : 250.000
Libye : 200.000
Egypte (oasis de Sioua) : 15.000

Medea, Institut Européen de Recherche sur la Coopération Méditerranéenne et Euro-Arabe, http://www.medea.be/site.html?lang=fr&page=2&doc=30

One must take these figures as a minimum, for one can be sure that the members of the "Institut Europeen de Recherche sur la Cooperation Mediterraneenne et Euro-Arabe" is safely in the hands of Arabs, promoting Arabs and not Berber interests.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berber_people

Before the advent of Islam, most Berber groups were Christians, and a number of Berber theologians were important figures in the development of Western Christianity.

Survey the history of Islam and you'll see that whenever Moslems attempt to get organized on a grand scale, rivers of blood get spilled.

Only question is who's blood.

There's an old saying that you put 6 Mexicans in a room one will declare himself a Generalissimo.

Put six Moslems in a room and one of them will declare himself Caliph.

I thought Osama already did that.

This is great news. If one recalls the 80's, when Qaddafi* and Hafez al Assad were the only Arab supporters of Iran in the Gulf war, Egypt was pretty much a frontline state against Libya, and the two at times looked like they might even go to war.

In the Middle East, the Shia and Sunni populations of the entire region are about equal, if one leaves out Turkey and Egypt, but includes Iran. Egypt, with its 60m+, tilts the balance heavily in favor of the Sunnis, and in most geo-political discussions, is considered more a part of the Middle East than of Africa. But if Qaddafi's ideas take hold - in Libya, Niger, Chad, and if he can spread that discord to Algeria, not only would it be great in terms of splitting Sunnis and Shia in those countries; he could also encourage an escalation of the civil war in Sudan, where General Nimeiry's ouster in the 80's was largely orchestrated by Libya.

And if Egypt suddenly finds Shia enemies in Cyrenaica, it won't have all those surplus Ikhwan volunteers to send to Iraq: let's face it - without this distraction, Sunnis have a major edge over the Shia. And we shouldn't want either - we should have an equal balance that guarantees that there is no end to Shia-Sunni hostilities.

So can we count on the Arab Jamahiriya to line up troops on Egypt's borders in the name of African/Shia solidarity, and force Egypt to divert some of their troops not only from Sinai, but also from Sudan? Once there is such Shia-Sunni discord not only in Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, but also once Egypt's attention is diverted, at least the Jihad against dar ul Harb can be diluted.

*What's the actual spelling of his name? Qaddafi? Gadaffi? Khadaffi? I've seen so many variations I have no idea.

I think that Gadafi is feeling emboldened by Nancy P running rampant as assistant Secretary of State.. showing off her head scarf.. as a sign of things to come when the Dhimmicrats take over the White House.

Obama or Hitlery.. either way is great by them!

Since Ahmadinejihad was able to act with such impunity Gadhafi feels safe to reemerge. Hudna-time's up. The Camel is coming into the tent.

Just another case in point: When you soft-pedal with moslems you end up losing. But don't let that stop the Dhimmicrats from rebranding the GWOT.

Posted by: Allahfanculo [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 6, 2007 12:52 PM

Qaddafi has always despised the Sunni Arabs of the MIddle East and has his own ambitions, not nasserian or saddam-husseinian, but rather to be the Leader of Africa, if necessary starting with the Maghreb.

His entire career has been marked by a contempt for the Arabs of the Middle East -- for the daggers-and-dishdasha Al-Saud, with xanadu yachts and with the grandest of grand hotels taken over, whole floors or the whole thing, taken over for months at a time, months of non-stop gambling and drinking and call-girling, for those estivating emirs, all of which Qaddafi despises, and sees as their betrayal of “the Arabs,” and the echt arabische noble bedu whom Qaddafi, tenting tonight on the old camp ground of the Libyan desert (he eats up that stuff), likes to think that he, Muammar Qaddafi, Last of the Great Arabs, and possibly now Founder of a Fatimid Caliphate, embodies.

It’s all preposterous of course. But it is in such preposterousnesses that the Arab Muslims live. Saddam Hussein, King of the Arabs, was preposterous. Gamal Abdel Nasser, King of the Arabs, was preposterous. The brutalities that follow one upon another – the “Palestinian” terrorists bending down to lick up the blood of Wasfi el-Tal, the Iraqis who watched the spectacle, or even joined in, as the body of “strongman” Nuri es-Said was dragged, still half-clothed in women’s garments in which he had attempted to flee, through the streets of Baghdad in 1958, after the coup of Qassem, or the televised showing of Qassem and his bodyguards, when they were subsequently murdered, or the killing of King Fahd, or the murder of Sadat on the reviewing stand as he celebrated the “great victory” of what the 1973 war (a war in which only the Americans prevented Ariel Sharon from destroying the Egyptian Third Army), and all the rest of it, all the meetings of the Arab League, all the support for Saddam Hussein as long as he was only killing Shi’a and of course Kurds (why should Arabs care when Arabs kill non-Arabs?), and all the rest of the nonsense and paralysis of it all. Well, it’s enough to make even a Qaddafi furious, not morally, but rather, practically. The Arabs of the Middle East are to him a joke, and he’s not having it. He’s having the Fatimid Caliphate, and he’s going to solve the Sunni-Shi’a split by an appeal to history, to that Shi’a-led Caliphate.

It’s a fantastic suggestion. And a suggestion that will echo in the Cairo Press, in Egypt where Mubarak and others in his family-and-friends plan have been warning for many months about the sinister and meretricious Shi’a, who are in their eyes are close to Infdiels – why, in Mubarak’s remarks one hears a slightly toned-down version of Al-Zarqawi’s denunciation of the Shi’a as “Rafidite dogs.” And others in Egypt have echoed Mubarak.
‘
Oh, this scheme or dream of Qaddafi is wonderful. It will scare the rulers of Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. They have been worried about, or claiming to worry about, Shi’a efforts to proselytize among the Sunni Arabs of Syria. Their fears were, earlier, exaggerated – they were trying to exaggerate the claims of a “Shi’a crescent” for their own purposes (just as Iraqi Shi’a had inveigled the Americans, for their own by-now clear purposes, to remove Saddam Hussein), The Sunni rulers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and elsewhere want two things.

First, they want the Americans to make sure that the Sunni Arabs in Iraq are not forced to acquiesce to the new Shi’a-dominated order, by remaining for as long as possible to pressure the Shi’a regime, and to attack and disarm the Shi’a.

And secondly, they want what they have always wanted and always will want (and are adept at reframing their request to exploit whatever worries the Americans may harbor at any one time), that is even more American pressure on Israel to surrender its legal and historic rights, and to make still further territorial and other concessions, rendering itself still more vulnerable than it already is to further Arab pressure, and to a future Arab military assault on an Israel weakened by diplomatic, economic, and demographic undermining. The farcical “Peace Plan” of the Saudis (the kind of thing only a Tom Friedman could take seriously) offers up as the “moderates” to be dealt with the Slow Jihadists of Fatah. They are presented to the American government and to the ever-compliant Europeans as being so very different (they differ only in tactics and timing as to how to achieve the same desired result) from the Fast Jihadists of Hamas. And they use the need to keep the Arab masses happy by “showing progress” in the “peace process,”

In the old days Qaddafi was content just to be one more melamaniacal despot, a kind of desert Kim Il Sung, peddling his new form of government, the “Jamhariya,” as set out ini his Third Way in that Little Green Book of is, which told the world How Permanent Happiness Can Be Achieved If Only Everyone Listens to the Great Leader, Muammar Qaddafi.

But from our standpoint, the latest twist on his megalomania (and he’s an intelligent megalomaniac, as far as megalomaniacs go), calling for the Maghreb to return to the days of supposed Fatimid greatness, now to be resurrected, says Qaddafi, in the Maghreb which will – and the significance of this, the full horror of this from the viewpoint of Saudis and Egyptians and Jordanians, must be understood:: resurrected under a Shi’a Caliphate.

Many were excitedly convinced in 2003 that because of the American invasion of Iraq Qaddafi had changed utterly. He gave up his attempts to acquire nuclear and other weapons, but it was forgotten, or overlooked, in all the excitement, that his projects had failed, and there was little tangible to give up, though information about A. Q. Khan may well have been of value. They not only forgot that Qaddafi was famously mercurial, but that he remains a Muslim, and a megalomaniac with more-than-steigian dreams of glory.

Thank God that his Dreams of Glory now take the form – the breathtaking even if only temporary form – of the restoration of a Shi’ite Fatimid Caliphate. The very idea is going to make the Al-Saud and Mubarak and the assorted plucky little kinglets and sheiklets of the Gulf very unhappy indeed, and more determined than ever that the Shi’a in Iraq must not prevail.

Great.

with all its troops, and by

Beth Togarmah [Syria, Levant]

from the remote parts of the north with all its troops – many peoples are with you.

“‘Be ready and stay ready, you and all your companies assembled around you, and be a guard for them. After many days you will be summoned; in the latter years you will come to a land restored from the ravages of war, with many peoples gathered on the mountains of Israel that had long been in ruins. Its people were brought out from the peoples, and all of them will be living securely. You will advance; you will come like a storm. You will be like a cloud covering the earth, you, all your troops, and the many other peoples with you.

“‘This is what the sovereign Lord says On that day thoughts will come into your mind, and you will devise an evil plan. You will say, “I will invade a land of unwalled towns; I will advance against those living quietly in security – all of them living without walls and barred gates – to loot and plunder, to attack the inhabited ruins and the people gathered from the nations, who are acquiring cattle and goods, who live at the center of the earth.”

Sheba and Dedan [The Gulf States]

and the traders of

Tarshish with all its young warriors [Great Britian and Anglosphere]

will say to you, “Have you come to loot? Have you assembled your armies to plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to haul away a great amount of spoils?”’

“Therefore, prophesy, son of man, and say to Gog ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says On that day when my people Israel are living securely, you will take notice and come from your place, from the remote parts of the north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great company and a vast army. You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud covering the earth. In the latter days I will bring you against my land so that the nations may acknowledge me, when before their eyes I magnify myself through you, O Gog.

“‘This is what the sovereign Lord says Are you the one of whom I spoke in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel, who prophesied in those days that I would bring you against them? On that day, when Gog invades the land of Israel, declares the sovereign Lord, my rage will mount up in my anger. In my zeal, in the fire of my fury, I declare that on that day there will be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. The fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the wild beasts, all the things that creep on the ground, and all people who live on the face of the earth will shake at my presence. The mountains will topple, the cliffs will fall, and every wall will fall to the ground. I will call for a sword to attack Gog on all my mountains, declares the sovereign Lord; every man’s sword will be against his brother. I will judge him with plague and bloodshed. I will rain down on him, his troops and the many peoples who are with him a torrential downpour, hailstones, fire, and brimstone. I will exalt and magnify myself; I will reveal myself before many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’

Even our Oriana was impressed with Qaddafi's (somewhat demented) gravitas. Very shrewd stuff this. Laying a groundwork for a unity that would be intoxicating to Islam and the 'coup de grace' to the West.

...huh?....THe only way Islam would be united would be if there were only one Muslim...and he would have a split personality....

Hey! I call for all of the middle east to take a flying leap off of this globe!! And while that is taking off - all the muslims all over this globe that are not located in the middle east, I call for them to follow that piece of cat litter box into the netherworld.

How is that for a declaration!!

are you sure? The guy might find himself either beating himself up - or blowing himself up and thinking that at least one of his selves would get those 72 virgins. I would bet his other self wouldn't agree with his first self.

On the thought of 72 virgins - I am reminded of an old saying... 'be careful of what you ask for - you might get it.'

I still say:
In the midst of apocalyptic bloodlust, martyrdom and mass murder I could see them 'uniting' but immediately afterwards turning on each other like ravening wolves. Some tosh formula like Qaddafi's will 'let' them put aside differences for a little while. Maybe.

The Islamist states are simply drawing up their plans for world conquest. Who can blame them? The Europeans are so busy blaming the United States for everything instead of looking in the mirror, they can't even take the time to reflect on their own destruction at the hands of Muslim immigration.

Meanwhile, the "unarmed" invasion of the USA continues from Mexico.

And then we have the flow of oil money eating away at our National Will and poisoning the minds of our teachers and then our kids. The Moonbats are so busy posturing in self-righteous union with the Barbarians that the Gates of Vienna are more like the open doors of Berkeley, CA -- and mysterious forces have just dropped 25 million dollars into the charismatic coffers of Barack Obama, despite the fact that he was a Muslim at least up until age 6, that he is a flaming liberal, and that 100% of my readers polled so far believe he will not stop Muslim immigration, and more than half of those believe that immigration will increase.

A fine mess we've gotten ourselves into.

Uh, dude, Mr.Gaddafi North Africa is not a freakin Shiite state; it is an Amazigh state. You know, the Amazigh, those cousins of Northern Europeans and Ancient Egyptians and many others, the Pagans and Idol Worshippers and Christians who ran North Africa and actually did a good job doing it until Islamic Arbas ruined it.

I would hope the West is doing something to encourage Amazigh resentment of comments like these, especially among Kabyles and Moroccan Amazigh who are either bascially agonistic, secretly Christian, or whose Islamic practices are so throughly dilluted by their ancient culture as to render them heretics in the eyes of almost all other muslims. It goes without saying that in North Africa these are the only peoples who have the potential to become allies ot the West out of ideoligical similarites, not merely because they want money, power and unlimited influence form us.

Qaddafi gives President Bush far too much credit. Our foreign policy has been a brilliant accident. Maybe there is something to the golden rule. Things seem to be working out just fine.

...if they are angry, disturb them,
if they are humble, make them haughty,
if they are relaxed, toil them,
if they are united, separate them.

Muammar al-Gaddafi should keep up the good work. I cannot imagine the Sunnis accepting Shiite domination and if Shi'ite power grows then I would expect war to break our between the two groups.

Such a war would be a gift for the West because it would keep the Islamic world divided and weak and therefore unable to threaten our civilisation. It would lead to mutual exhaustion and a united West could impose a settlement on the two warring parties that would last for a generation, which is sufficient time for us to remove our dependence on oil. It is of course important that neither side gains advantage over the other and the West should stand ready to aid the side that appears to be losing.

Once again Colonel - keep up the good work, we are depending on you!

Abdullah-

I thought your were a peaceful muhammadan?

Geez, you sound like one of those head-chopping, hate-mongering extreme Jihadi types. Your giving muhammadans a very bad name!

I would have thought Qaddafi would be your hero. He hates the Jews and blames them for all of the muhammadans' problems. You should lick his ass.

Please tell us why you hate him so much and wish to chop off his head!

I know I promised not to feed the troll, but this is too good to pass up...

Abdullah

If you are willing to become a volunteer in taking out Qaddafi and become shahid, with your 72 houris and all the rest, we might be able to chip in for a bomb belt and put you on the next flight to Tripoli. Does Sipah e Sahaba have a branch in Libya?

OTOH, we like the idea of Qadaffi converting all Sunnis to Shia, starting presumably with his own country. Despite his desire to put an end to Sunni-Shia divisions, he'd have to do precisely that (convert Sunnis) if he wants to get Sunnis (all of Libyan Muslims are Sunni) excited about restoring a Shia caliphate in Cairo. And he is right - what's more legitimate - an Arab caliphate, albeit Shia, or a caliphate run by a Kurd named Saladin? Or do Arabs now claim him as Arab just because he was a Sunni?

Hope Libyan troops end up in Cairo.

Qadaffi said

… Today there is a divide [in the Islamic world] that we must acknowledge, and we must know who is deepening it. Perhaps it is colonialism, the enemy of Islam, the enemy of the Arabs, the enemy of the Persians, that is deepening it…

Dang it, the Muslims are going to recognize and heal all their divides and fissures. They will all be living in harmony and peace and mutual respect, which defeats Hugh's brilliant strategy before it can be implemented. We should have known it was impossible for there to be intra-Islamic rivalry; they've been living in peace with each other for centuries. Right?

If only someone, some government or some media personality, would look into that question, and publicize the results. Be sure that each tribe or sect is reminded of every brutal assault that every other tribe or sect committed against it. All the bloody details should be gone over again, in excrutiating detail: the suffering of the children, the lamentation of the women. Not just the numbers of dead and injured, we want to know the details, how they suffered at the hands of "the others". And make clear that "the others" are not even real Muslims anyways. List all the haram things that each sect practices. Each sect must be made certain that it is the sole "true" practitioner of Islam, the others are all heretics. Kadafi wants to gloss over the differences between Muslims and ethnic groups. We should be scuffing them back up.

Sounds likie Gadaffi is getting uppity since we've largely abandoned the punishment phase of our anti-terror campaign after we overthrew Saddam, and then got bogged down in the touchy-feely democratization phase. It was fear that induced him to forswear nukes, and now the lack of it is bringing the jihadi out in him. There's a lesson in this: The stick is the way to go.
I find his claim that intra-Muslim fighting is caused by Infidels very interesting. The same source of hatred of Infidels is what causes Muslims to fight each other. It's the sanctification of violence and intolerance in Islam. The fault, dear Brutus, is not in the Infidels, but in ourselves...

Good grief, Mr. Qaddafi, are you off your meds again? Are you trying to earn brownie points for President Nutjob of Iran? Isn't going to get any traction.

And folks, you thought what he said about Christianity last week very strange, you have not seen anything yet!

BTW, a Blessed Happy Easter to all the Christian posters. Also belated Happy Passover to those who are Jewish.

From george_rem above:

Before the advent of Islam, most Berber groups were Christians, and a number of Berber theologians were important figures in the development of Western Christianity.

How sad...

Right!

Saint Augustine 354-430 AD, Bishop of Hippo, was Berber, born in Algeria, and is one of the great heros of the Roman Catholic Church. At the time, and up to the Arab invasion, all of North Africa was Roman Catholic.

From the long view of history, Islam has no claim to these lands; maybe it is time for the Arabs to go home. Let Qadaffi and King Saud battle it out in Mecca.

Abdullah, you are correct about the former Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Baz's fatwa against Qadaffi. This same famous Saudi "scholar" also issued a fatwa declaring: "The earth is flat. Whoever claims it is round is an atheist deserving of punishment."

BTW, your beloved shiekh Osama bin Laden always refers to him as "that atheist Qadaffi" so maybe there is still hope for the Libyan leader.
