COLUMBUS — Federal authorities say an Ohio man was so dedicated to committing violent jihad that he angrily told a fellow al-Qaida member that the terrorist group should never consider scaling back military operations.Christopher Paul is depicted by investigators as a man who made that statement during a stay at an exclusive guest house for al-Qaida members in Pakistan in the early 1990s. He then spent years providing money and training to others who would join him in plotting to bomb European tourist resorts and U.S. military bases overseas, the U.S. government said Thursday.
In a letter to his future wife, Paul even reflected on his desire to one day raise “little mujahideen,” or holy warriors, according to a federal grand jury indictment....
Paul, 43, a U.S. citizen and Columbus resident, was arrested Wednesday outside his apartment. He is charged with providing material support to terrorists, conspiracy to provide support to terrorists and conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction. The weapon of mass destruction charge carries the most serious penalty, up to life in prison.
Ahmad Al-Akhras, vice chair of the Columbus chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said he knows Paul and the charges are out of character.
“From the things I know, he is a loving husband and he has a wife and parents in town,” Al-Akhras said. “They are a good family together.”
Al-Akhras said his group will work to make sure Paul’s constitutional rights are granted.Paul appeared Thursday before U.S. Magistrate Terence Kemp, who set a hearing Friday on prosecutors’ request that Paul be held without bond. Paul’s lawyer, Don Wolery, declined comment.
After completing his al-Qaida training in the early 1990s, Paul returned to Columbus to teach martial arts at a mosque, the indictment said.
Paul traveled to Germany about April 1999 to train co-conspirators to use explosives to attack European and American targets, including government buildings and vacation spots frequented by American tourists, the document said.

.....who says the targets were overseas.....we have Americans, tourists, government buildings, and many "soft" targets here in the USA...

.....here come the elusive WMDs...I suspect chemical or biological agents....you know, the ones the dhimmicrats and leftists keep insisting do not exist....(all right already, so he may not have been in Iraq....but then we have found some artillery shells containing chemical and biological weapons in Iraq, too.).
....with the Iraqi terrorists practicing with detonating explosives with chemicals (so far, it appears to be with cholorine only.)....it appears the world could see these other nerve agents appear in a terror attack...and it appears to be just a matter of time before this happens....

Why would it surprise you that the most publicized islamist supremascist orgaganization in the country would be defending a terrorist? That's what terrorist apologists do. I would've been totally shocked if they hadn't.

My new name for Moslem extremists is "Martians." Why? The Jihadists have fooled us. It is not Allah that they pray to. They are actually praying to a god of war or Mars, the god of War. We are surrounded by Martians. We are at war with Martians. Mars has attacked us. Earth at War! We are plagued by attacking Martians. Didn't our good friend Abdullah call all of this "exercise" last week when it was terrorist training.
.....and isn't a Muslim playing with explosives just looking to be nominated by the Nobel Prize committee as it was that European who made a fortune blowing people up, went off his rocker and then tried to make it up by giving away a "peace prize".
So Muslims are just working for peace by using dynamite...it all makes perfect Islamic sense.

I am sure the exact same things could be said about all of the married suicide bombers who have practiced their trade. Jeffrey Dahmer , Manson, Son of Sam all came from good families and loved the ones who were in their family. I guess we should have let them go based upon that background imformation because we could assume from it that they would never hurt anyone! R - I -G - H - T! Sarcasm intended!
This is another example of "FLUFF" which says nothing at all. Typical of CAIR!

The mosque in question was the Masjid Omar located at 580 Riverview Dr. in Columbus. Needless to say it is operated by the ISGC/ ISNA.
It will be interesting to see what kind of follow up is done to determine how many 'students' were 'trained' and in what martial arts.
No one should be surprised by al-Akhras knowing this good family man. Between his gigs at CAIR, Ahmad also is on the Community Relations Committe for Columbus, the Mid Ohio Regional Planning Commission, and is the incorporator of at least 3 different Islamic Schools in Columbus (Eastside, Westside Academies, and the International Academy).
It's a darn good thing that CAIR hasn't been linked to any Islamist extremist agenda groups or folks in Columbus would be more concerned with his activities...... :)
