So they beheaded a few elderly Buddhist schoolteachers and such. What's the big deal?
"Thailand: Govt. Proposes Amnesty For Islamic Rebels," from AKI, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:
Bangkok, 2 May (AKI) - In a gesture aimed at ending the violence in Thailand's Muslim south, Bangkok has announced a proposed amnesty for Islamic militants who have been involved in attacks that have killed more than 2,100 people since January 2004. The offer of amnesty which was made on Tuesday, coincided with the first official visit to Thailand of the president of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC)."An amnesty will be granted to all people who have been involved in the ongoing violence in the southern border provinces, provided they did not commit an offence under the country's criminal code," the Thai foreign ministry said in a statement.
No other details have been offered on the nature of the proposal, but the offer has been welcomed with satisfaction by Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, OIC president who was in Bangkok on Tuesday, leading a six-member OIC delegation to Thailand on an invitation of the Thai government.

Suggestion: the Thai authorities should take a page out of the Mohammedans, and tell the OIC that they are granting amnesty to all Jihadis, while in reality, executing them. Following that, deny any charges by Islamic organizations that the Jihadis have been executed, or do these executions in secret - maybe contract that out to the remnants of the Khmer Rouge.
Of course, that might take too much of imagination.

The Thai foreign ministry evidently has never bothered to read any Muslim history....apology, appeasment, negotiation, treaties, or amnesty has ever pleased the Muslims....they just keep killing...
....I suspect you will see more attacks on Non Muslims in Thailand ....and you will not have to wait long to find out...
what with the Thai foreign ministry do then?....

"An amnesty will be granted to all people who have been involved in the ongoing violence in the southern border provinces, provided they did NOT commit an offence under the country's criminal code," the Thai foreign ministry said in a statement.
How can one commit an act of violence without being in violation of a criminal code?
I can only conclude by this offer of amnesty that killing, beheading, wounding, or burning non-Muslims is NOT an offense recognized under the Thai criminal code.

I guess we should all (a) "roll over and expose our guts" and (b) hope that "nobody steps on them"
submission(a) == domination(b)
*bah*
I am disgusted ...
.. but then I am Brit who has been brought up in a "Nation of Racists" (tm) who only express their discontent in the mildest of terms ..

How does one get these deals?
If one is white, you get thrown in prison, but if you are Mexican the government lets you go 7 times before they will kick you out of America and if you a Muslim you can get amnesty for murdering people.
Never see the Chicoms turning Christians or any religious people loose there with amnesty.

Are you sure this item shouldn't have been posted on DW?
=========
What is almost funny about this is that there's nothing going on in Thailand to be granted amnesty from!
It's not like the jihaddis are suffering any penalties for their actions in the first place.
From the OIC's point of view it's a promise not to retaliate in the future either.
Carte blanche to kill Buddhists.

Check me on this, wasn't there a time when the Thai hill tribes were fierce warriors?

"provided they did not commit an offence under the country's criminal code"
Perhaps immunity is limited to rebels who haven't done any actual killing yet?

Sorry I categorized them as "rebels," providing them with a veneer of legitimacy.

O you cynics! I am convinced that this brillant policy will be just as effective and illuminating as that air drop of those millions of paper Origami Cranes (hand-crafted by Thai school children) for the promotion of peace! Now how successful was that!!

Those millions of origami birds dropped from on high didn't do the trick, so now its time to try total appeasement, total moral disarmament.

Dhimmitude of this level from f**king Thailand!?? The one SE Asian country that wasn't even colonozed by Europe due to the aggression of its people? This sort of underscores my points earleir about the realisticness of dealing with ISalmic peoples. Even if we could somehow establish that it's the right thing to do to expel all people even labelled as *muslim* from their countries, which would still be doubtful and I do even Spencer himself has rejected on certain grounds, getting countries, especially Western, to adopt it would be next to impossible to execute. Not to say if some totlaitarian country liek China or Vietnam chooses to do so, I would support trying to convince them otherwise; then I'd say do what you will to defend yourselves, for all we care.
Unfortunatly, in Thailand, let alone the West, they're still in the process of figuring out that concessions to militant muslims only empowers them to more Islamic violence. When we manage to convince all Western leaders of even this basic fact we will have made an astronomicla achievement.

Perhaps the meek shall inherit the earth (if the rest of you don't mind).

For a Jihadi to accept amnesty would be for him to acknowledge that he had dome something that was morally wrong. That is absurd.

Can anyone even imagine a world -- a world in which Jihadist murderous terrorists who behead school girls without hesitation ("it's what Allah wants! Allahu Akbar-- Ja!"), would suddenly be transformed into pacifists as a consequence of spotting the gentle landing of a paper origami bird onto the ground. Yeah! That's sooo probable...The magical transformation into a Religion of Peace! Maybe they should try that trick in Iraq, eh?

The Thai government is much more likely to accelerate the violence in the south of the country with this policy than it is to end the violence.
Some people just never learn.

Why can't the Muslims stay in their own Islamic countries? Why do they have to invade everyone else? I know, because their own countries are total crap and to spread Jihad. Total losers, with the exceptions of those no longer Muslim, such as Wafa Sultan etc.
I hope Thailand will come to the realization it needs to kick butt.
