It's not enough, but it's a start. Monitoring mosques is something I have long advocated. Why can't we at least begin by imitating the Europeans in this?
From AP, with thanks to Sr. Soph:
VENICE, Italy (AP) _ Security officials from Europe's largest countries have thrown their weight behind the EU Commission's plans to map out mosques on the continent to identify imams who preach radical Islam that raises the threat of homegrown terrorism. The project, to be finished by the fall, will focus on the roles of imams, their training, their ability to speak in the local language and their source of funding, EU Justice and Home Affairs Commissioner Franco Frattini told a news conference.
Europe had ample experience with the ''misuse of mosques, which instead of being places of worship are used for other ends, Italian Interior Minister Guiliano Amato said Saturday.
''This is bringing about a situation that involves all of our countries and involves the possibility of attacks and developing of networks that use one country to prepare an attack in another,'' Amato said, after a meeting in Venice of interior ministers and security officials from six European countries and the United States.
Frattini also emphasized the need of strengthened dialogue with the Islamic communities ''to avoid sending messages that incite hate and violence.''
Good luck with that.

Excellent as the liberals in England were handed a huge defeat in midterms, Blair is waving bye bye and Conservatives are on the rise. The Frau in Germany is beating up Putin, the French are back under Sarkozy and now the Italians are pushing the EU with probably Pope Ben's backing all means the world is filing in with George Bush finally.
About time the Europeans have awoke.

An overarching paradigm that says we decide who will come to this country and under what conditions their stay here will be tolerated.
Virtually every brick in these fortresses of the ummah must be wired for sound.
No sermons in Arabic.
No funding from Saudi or other foreign nations.
Fortress/mosque will be shut down after repeated breaches of rules.
Severe violations to be treated as treason and insurgency, to be punished by cancelling of citizenship and imprisonment followed by deportation.
Draconian? I haven't even started yet.
The "notorious" reverend Søren Krarup, MP for the Danish People's Party, today caused an outrage in Parliament by comparing the Qur'an to Mein Kampf. The dhimmi parties wanted the PM to distance himself from these statements, however, Mr. Fogh Rasmussen wisely declined to do so.
We've got a long, long way to go, even here in pesky little xenophobic Denmark, before the ugly truth about the contents of the Qur'an and the ahadith become common topics for discussion. Let alone monitoring of the fortresses/mosques.

Hell yeah we see you Islam. You've got a lot of blood on your hands Islam. We see, we hear, we watch. We understand how inconsequential you "moderates" have become. "Map out mosques on the continent to identify imams who preach radical Islam that raises the threat of homegrown terrorism. " Now we begin making a head count. Islam by its very nature is "radical", so do we count them all, or just the non-apostates.

Lame Cherry:
About time the Europeans have awoke.
It is nowhere near enough but is a step in right direction.
Ditching the hated European Human Rights Act would be good (UK Conservatives have said they will do that).
Bringing in harsh immigration laws like Denmark would be good across Europe.
Forcing deportation of illegal immigrants would be good. And if they have broken our laws, they should be expelled regardless of whether they would be tortured in home country.
Banning foreign Imans would be good.
Yup, there are more measures to take.

If the imams are true to the Koran, they cannot teach anything but violent Jihad.
And Mohammad's shining example as a warlord.
What's to "monitor"?
Their intentions are clear.
Just assume the worst and try to encourage this unassimilatable mass to go back to Mecca and work to reform Islam.
The faith is not to be trusted.
It has nothing but contempt for our institutions, religions and governments.
They can easily censor their sermons for EU consumption.
And plot, after the deceptively peaceful services are over, in their kitchens.
Best to prod them to go to home a Muslim country and fix Islam before we allow another Potential Sudden Jihadist into our "infidel" lands.
Start with suspicion of Islam and you can't go wrong.

Wouldn't the sensible thing be to just outlaw the murderous cult? Think of how much manpower and money could be saved.

"Europe had ample experience with the ''misuse of mosques, which instead of being places of worship are used for other ends, Italian Interior Minister Guiliano Amato said Saturday."
Just when I thought the Europeans were completely stupid, they do something smart. At least now they seem to be admitting that there might be something wrong with the peaceful Islamic religion.
I wonder if common sense is catching. Maybe our own Congress will be infected.

Hmmm?

"And when we finally have the proof that can no longer be denied and find out that Islam is our enemy, then what?"
Have a sit down with them and explain that we don't like beheadings, FGM, honor killings, etc. and through dialogue we can reach an amicable co-existance.

And good luck trying to find imams who are able to effectively relegate the aggressive language in the Islamic scriptures to the past. Don't blame the Infidels for the incitement and hatred in those scriptures.

Another poster recommended it, so I'll second.
Ban foreign imams.
Surely the umma has enough qualified home-grown candidates in each country and no need to import more from the ME.

A political organization called SANE is doing that here. But it is a non-Governmental Organization. Most likely there are other such groups doing this too.
But, will the US government actually listen to these groups?

... the EU Commission's plans to map out mosques on the continent to identify imams who preach radical Islam that raises the threat of homegrown terrorism.
The highly paid EU bureaucrats should simply draw up a list of every mosque in the EU, and they'd have an accurate list of places preaching radicalism and raise the threat of homegrown terrorism.

Certainly a step forward monitoring mosques-but shouldn't everyone be asking "IF ISLAM IS SO PEACEFUL WHY ARE WE BEING FORCED TO MONITOR ALL MOSQUES?" Not to mention HUGE expense of doing so. This is just so crazy. Sooner or later-later if our dithering, 'head in the sand' Politicians
are anything to go by-simple truth will out.
ISLAM IS THE ENEMY...
at May 23, 2007 9:15 PM
IF ISLAM IS SO PEACEFUL WHY ARE WE BEING FORCED TO MONITOR ALL MOSQUES?
We're forced to monitor all the mosques because we misunderstand Islam and are Islamophobic. Just ask any newspaper editor or TV news editor, any college professor, any permanent government employee (especially any US Dept of State employee). We're the problem, our ignorance of Islam is the probblem, and the best solution to the problem that is us is education on Islam for the regular folk along with some respectful censorship for same, and for the rich folk some 3-day interfaith dialog conferences in Palm Springs, Scottdale, Grand Teton, Naples, or Hilton Haid.

Franco Frattini is a fraud.
He has a long history of doing exactly the opposite of what he says he will do. He recently brought in some ridiculous vilification laws, which will be used by the Muhammedans against those who oppose Islam in Europe.
Monitoring mosques in the long run is not viable, just as it is impossible to monitor every jihadi around the clock.
The ONLY solution is internment and deportations on a massive scale. No more mosques, no more madrassahs and all, I repeat ALL hate-preachers have to go. And show me one imam, mufti or mullah who is NOT a hate-preacher:
They all read the same Koran.
This whole ideology, this belief-system has to go along with those who are trying to force it on us.
Aand let them take their enablers right with them!

Forget profiling mosques, bulldoze them. We already know what goes on in these dens of iniquity. Get rid of the ones already there, and issue no permits for new ones. If the muslims dont like that, offer to pay thier way...one way...to Pakistan or better, 'Palestine'...

Ann Coulter has a great point that she made in a column about 3 weeks ago. In it, she points out that the far-left anti-American moonbats that always threaten to expatriate in protest of the GWOT are running out of "civilized" places to move to.
The UK is being handed from Tony Blair, staunch ally in the War on Terror, to a conservative, who promises more of the same.
France, the prototype of dhimmitude, now elects a less anti-American leader who, Ohmigosh, calls rioting urban youths, who are by a vast majority muslim, "thugs" and refuses to apologise!
Germany is headed by a more pro-American, anti-jihadi chancellor.
Australia is drawing a line in the sand, and backing it up with bats and chains, if necessary.
And now Denmark and the rest of the EU come up with this.
Notice how the anti-American activists always point to a liberal Europe and say "follow their lead". Notice too, the dearth of similar comments recently.
Mark Steyn posits that it is too late for Europe to save itself due to demographics and birth rates, but it is nice to see that they have awakened to the truth and have decided to go down swinging.
Perhaps I misread the situation, and it is merely a napping Europe lazily lifting open one eye and saying "WTF?.....", either way, this is encouraging.
(ps) A small note concerning the Bush adm. and their alleged incompetence concerning the war in Iraq.
Bush was a fighter pilot. Now, the well heeled and well connected were able to sit out 'Nam in the guard, and everyone knows it. But they don't get to wield a jet just cuz daddy want's them to.
That is reserved for the mentally acute and the physically able. So clearly GW isn't the dunce the press and his own verbal gaffes make him out to be.
The there is his staff, NOT made up of cronies and political hacks, but of compentent and capable (Gonzalez excluded) long term, proven talent.
Long story made short, it appears that the middle east is headed for a intr-mural skirmish.
I would link to the Hugh Fitzgerald posts, wherein he believes that a war torn middle east would be a boon for the rest of the world, and for the reasons he lists, but I am a low tech man.
So, is this incompentence, or shrewd "bungling"?

Well, speaking for myself, I hoped and believed it was the latter of the two, but continuous examples of the former has certainly bent my mind as of late.
In the event that it is indeed either of the two aforementioned, the end result in Iraq should be beneficial to the West in general.
Bush has started a chain of events, while simultaneously wasteful on so many levels, will undoubtably pay dividends, once we simply get out of the way.
Shrewd is not a word I would use to describe the man, however. A sizable amount of the Democratic party voted in favor taking out Saddam. No problems up to that point. Mission accomplished. What we have there now, with the ever-changing "mission" objectives, is entirely something else.
Bush and the Democrats are both headed for the same end. A pull-out in Iraq, preferably sooner than later. It is the right course of action, even if neither of the two entities comprehend exactly why at this point.
It needs to happen. It should happen. Hope.

Private eavesdropping once seemed kind of sinister to me but given that new technologies can make citizen journalism far more effective (and ethical) than what we see in the MSM, I think that some degree of protection for private espionage should be enacted. As for banning Arabic sermons, I think that it will be easier to catch the extremists if they feel comfortable so the emphasis should be on training translators and investing in technological augmentation to human translation.

The Frau in Germany is beating up Putin, the French are back under Sarkozy and now the Italians are pushing the EU with probably Pope Ben's backing all means the world is filing in with George Bush finally.
The Frau in Germany is a major disappointment. She is knuckling under big time. Germany is succumbing to a wave of "beware to violence of the Right-wing" type campaigns in government, the judiciary, the MSM and the schools.
Germany looks pretty bleak right now.
A man who pushed his 16yo daughter off a third-floor balcony because she refused a forced marriage got only *four* years for "attemted manslaughter" when attempted murder with depraved intent would have been appropriate.
He was helpd to throw her off the balcony by an unidentified family member who pried the girl's fingers loose from the railing.
These people are so-called 'migrants' and there is no chance in hell they'll be re-patriated where they belong.
Germany has a VERY long way to go to healing itself.
The Frau is NOT the answer, she is window-dressing to make the general public buy into PC and multikulti.
Germany in fact needs a new party.
The Christian democratic Union - formerly known as "conservative" - has completely sold out. They've gone along with and in many cases actively supported - mosks being built all over Germany - in the face of local resistance and community groups.. including minarets and wailing muftis off the rims of these things.
The regular Germans call these things sarcastically "Gebetsraketen" - prayer rockets.
They also sauy if you are attacked by 'migrants' you're actually better off losing the fight or you will be branded a racist Nazi and put on trial via both the courts and the press.
Call it a full-court press..
The Frau is a Faules Fräulein, alas!

See Sarkozy has come out today & reiterated 'No Turkey in E.U. Vive Sarko!
This intrepid Frenchman may one day be known as the Saviour of Germany. Cuz that's where the Turks will be heading if we let them inside the EU.
Everyone in Germany is saying: "Sarko, wir danken Dir". "Sarko wir lieben Dich"
The silent Majority that is.
Sadly there is no Sarko up for election in Germany. As long as the ballot is cast in privacy we would see the Germans vote anti-jihad just like the French.
Unfortunately most Germans traditionally don't speak up - regardless of their feelings. See WW2.
Thank God there are Frenchmen and [GREAT] Danes to do just that.. I am sure the Poles won't be quiet either once they have too much islam and PC and multikulti over there.
Germans and British need to catch up and MAKE SUM NOIZE!!!
