Iraqi government in talks with the King of Clubs

Al-Duri.jpg

"For reconciliation between the government and this political wing." Hmm. Evidently they have forgotten, or no longer care, how it was that the government and this political wing became estranged in the first place.

"Iraq: Government in talks with former Saddam deputy," from AKI, with thanks to Sr. Soph:

Erbil, 30 May (AKI) - Contacts are underway between Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki and the Baathist faction of Izzat al-Douri, former vice president during the Saddam era, according to a report on Kurdish language daily Aso. The scope of the contacts is "for reconciliation between the government and this political wing" the paper said. It quoted sources close to the government saying "the prime minister has created a high commission for directing the talks with the Douri faction, to be headed by an ex-aviation official."...

Al-Douri, the "King of Clubs" in the US deck of cards naming the Saddam regime's most wanted figures, gave an interview to Time magazine in July 2006, through written questions and answers passed on by Iraqi intermediaries. There have been reports that he has been living in Syria or Yemen or that he is dead.

The Iraqi leadership has in the past fiercely opposed any negotiations with Baathists involved in crimes against the Iraqi people. But among the recommendations that emerged from the conference in Sharm el-Sheikh earlier this month, on the situation in Iraq, was initiatives to support and boost national reconciliation.

Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri is one of three surviving plotters who carried out the coup that brought the Baath Party to power in 1968 and managed to survive Saddam's frequent purges.

He was responsible for northern Iraq when chemical weapons were used there in 1988, and is accused of mass torture and murder.

Sure, but why let that get in the way of "national reconciliation"?

Only in Iraq. Only in the Middle East. Only in Islam.

Maybe the Dhimmicrats can get Dr. Death to run with Hitlery instead of Hussein Obama? Maybe the RNC can get Frisky Foley to come back into the fold and protect our children again?

Anything which strengthens the camp of Islam strengthens the camp of Islam.

That is curious... Is the U.S. still looking for Izzat al-Douri? Or, did we just give up on hunting down the Saddamites the moment al-Maliki took office???

Cheers,

Long live the King!

Anyway this is the finial insult of this Iraq mess. Everything has come full-circle....thus our troops are now fighting to preserve a government who is now talking to the "king of clubs" on our stupid deck of Saddamites. God the irony!

It is now official! This and the talks with Iranians means....

G.W. = Jimmy Carter!

I am sorry this the end....have a nice day!

Well, since they’re either with us or against us, at least we know that Mr. Al-Douri has had a change of heart. Our hearts and minds campaign is showing real dividends. Time to award Condoleeza a Presidential Medal of Freedom. Take Friday afternoon off.

I suppose all things considered…… you would be hard pressed to come up with any ex officials of ANY political faction in Iraq that wouldn’t have form in the subtle arts of barbarism and corruption (current government included )……it’s the nature of the beast in all of Dar al-Islam.

Posted by: Freedom [TypeKey Profile Page] at May 30, 2007 10:10 AM

If the Iraqi government wants to reconcile with the former thugs in charge, what do we care? Let them reconcile and then we can leave and take Al Qaeda with us?

Then we can dump 100k troops into Afghanistan, chase the taliban/alqaeda into pakiland and meet the Indian Army on the other side. Using a slash & burn/scorched earth Sherman style of warfare of course. Oh wait, I forgot who's in charge.

Ok new plan, leave Iraq, go to Afghanistan, take the John Lennon "Imagine" piano and "give peace a chance".

Group hug.

"Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri is one of three surviving plotters who carried out the coup that brought the Baath Party to power in 1968 and managed to survive Saddam's frequent purges."

Hell, make the man Chief of all Iraqi police, and tell him to go out and clean up the insurgency.

He might be an out right criminal, but then the Iraqi government is filled with criminals. At least this criminal has had some experience in crushing insurgencies.

It seems our government on all sides, has gone mad. The corruption in our own government has just twisted the entire system. Or maybe it is just the toxins in the imported food...

In any case, the sarcasm in this thread is awesome, awesome but angry - just like everywhere else.

What was the quote about feeding the tree of liberty?

I think that he survived Saddam's purges because of his hair color. In the old film footage of Saddam and his thugs, they all had to look like the great leader, with black hair and mustaches...all, except, Izzat The Red. Even Saddam enjoyed some variety and his vice president provided it for him. Hair color aside, he should be tried for crimes against humanity. Or in the spirit of reconciliation, he could be awarded nice home in a suburb of Baghdad and enough red hair dye to last him for the rest of his days. It really is past time for the troops to come home and leave those people to their own stupidity...and self-destruction.

Since our leadership forgot that you have to set up a secular government first(and not allow a Taliban lite to become Law), the rest is all an exercise in how to perform a relatively-unembarassing retreat.

The only real questions are; Reconcile what? What are the specifics of a reconciliation and why? What are the benefits gained by the Iraqi governmet lead by prime minister Nouri al-Maliki in contacting Baathist faction of Izzat al-Douri who was responsible for northern Iraq when chemical weapons were used there in 1988, and is accused of mass torture and murder.

Iran proposes a US-Iran-Iraqi trilateral mechanism to coordinate security matters in Iraq

May 28, 2007, 11:01 PM (GMT+02:00)

First official US-Iran talks in 27 years chaired by Iraq

This was reported by US Ambassador Ryan Crocker after meeting his Iranian counterpart Hassan Kazemi-Qomi at the home of Iraqi PM Nouri al Maliki in Baghdad Monday, May 28.

It was their first official dialogue in 27 years.

The Iranian side did not respond to the concerns the US envoy laid out regarding Tehran’s support for militias fighting coalition forces, the explosives reaching insurgents from Iran and the demand to stop the activities of Revolutionary Guards.

Neither did the Iranian diplomats have specific issues to put on the table, including the seven Iranians in US hands

But wait! It gets better!

http://www.debka.com/

Condoleezza Rice says there is no substitute for creating a Palestinian state. Her efforts to create a political horizon to this end have been stalled at every hand, because many observers say her goal is unrealistic at this time.

She is discussing the stalled peace process with Group of Eight foreign ministers in Berlin Wednesday, as well as the dispute with Iran over its nuclear program.

DEBKAfile reports: Washington has bolstered Palestinian Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, but he is a fading force on the Palestinian scene and has little clout to follow through on peace talks with Israel.

I wouldn't worry too much about Mrs Hitler and Dr. Death joining forces; it appears that I was too generous in calling bush et al traitors.

To be a traitor, one has to be a little smart so as to avoid detection.

bush is an idiot or insane and so are people like rice. Nobody sane or intelligent will do these things unless they are trying to destroy themselves.

Granted, it could all be an elaborate hoax and everything reported in Debka could be misinformation; but other sources are saying the same thing.

As far as the deck of cards; well, we don't have a mission in iraq that I can figure out -- and a few people with boots on the ground and in a position to know are thinking the same thing.

The fact of the matter is that bush is negotiating the terms of surrender with iran right now in iraq (generally, winners of wars don't need to negotiate if I read history correctly, rather they dictate the terms of surrender like iran is apparently doing) and the palistinian question is part of the larger equation.

If we are going to sell out isreal, why would we not sell out our own citizens sooner or later, right george?

Will you intimate the price of the sale, or do we merely have to wait a while?

What's in for you, george? That's really what its really all about in the end.

"Condoleezza Rice says there is no substitute for creating a Palestinian state."
-- from a posting above

Of course there is. The "substitute" consists of ceasing to prate about "solutions" to situations to which there is no "solution" but merely amelioration, and that amelioration can only be achieved by making it absolutely clear to Arab peoples and regimes that Israel is not only more powerful, but overwhelmingly and obviously so (and ten or twenty or thirty billion of the $880 billion squandered in Iraq, if it were spent on military aid to Israel, would have done it for the next decade), so that the doctrine of "Darura" (Necessity) could be invoked by those leaders to explain their refusal to participate in the violent Jihad.

As to the other instruments of Jihad, like Infidel lands elsewhere, the Israelis must first learn about Islam. Those who are hopeless, such as Olmert and Peres and Peretz and Barak and others, need to be kept out of office. And the Israelis must start to talk openly about the Treaty of al-Hudaibiyyah and Muslim attitudes toward treaties made with Infidels. Refraining from doing so, on the theory that this will prevent any improvement in the situation, and that it is always better to play the game of "Let's Pretend" with Muslims, is foolish an dangerous. Let all Infidels understand this. It need not begin with the government of Israel, but other Infidels should not pretend that the case of Israel, and what menaces it, is different in kind from what they face. This is a problem, a problem that some may attribute to the great success Arabs and Muslims have had in redefining that Lesser Jihad as merely a case of "two tiny peoples, each sturggling for its homeland" and, as a corollary, the nunc-pro-tunc backdating of a deliberately-created "Palestinian people" to fit that "tiny peoples" bill. There are those who, for example, even if they see the light on Edward Said as to his "Orientalism," persist in believing that "on 'Palestine'" Said "was correct, when it would be easy to show the grotesque distortion of the truth that is on every page of "The Question of Palestine."

Christopher Hitchens, Said's old and still loyal friend, is a good example of this. Hitchens likes to think of himself, with his stout defense of Tarbaby Iraq, as a brave soul, someone Who Has Broken With the Left, Who Speaks Truth to Power (god, what an intolerable phrase that has become), when in truth, he is merely a mountebank, about to get his Support-for-Staying-In-Iraq comeuppance, and a suitably large egg deposited on that faccia-da-schiaffi face.

You can boo miss America causing her to slip (shame on you for picking on a woman) you can chant osama during our national anthem, go ahead and toss urine on our athletes but hey come on in and join us. So is it any surprise they are making nice with iran, the pali’s, saddamco, among others? Im shocked, yes shocked that they haven’t offered them red carpet citizenship already. Yes, this man is scum, but all of you seem to forget much of the problems we've had there were caused by the disbanding of the Iraqi Army and Baathist officials, who joined Al Qaeda or were in leagues with them because they had no future after the invasion. If we attempt to bring them back into the fold maybe it is a means of bringing the different factions of the country back together and against Al Qaeda. You can't have a government work which is all Shia or Sunni because one side will feel left out and rebel, thus creating the mess we are in today. I share your extremist thoughts, however it does not work and will not create a stable government so we can begin pullout.

Let all infidels do what, Hugh?, and you never did close that parenthesis. So confusing is your stream of consciousness today...:

"Let all Infidels, not necessarily beginning with the Israelis but certainly not excluding them, as if the Jihad were obvious everywhere, except when it comes to the war against Israel (amazing how some people will, for example, see right through Edward Said when it comes to his general "Orientalist" pitch, but think he's just swell in his equally or perhaps even more tendentious and grotesque discussion of what he, Said, calls "The Question of Palestine." Christopher Hitchens is a good example of this, but Hitchens is about to get, with his stout defense of Tarbaby Iraq, more egg on his Speaking-Truth-to-Power complacent, faccia-da-schiaffi face."

"Turkish military buildup on Iraq border fuels unease in Washington

May 30, 2007, 5:29 PM (GMT+02:00)

The consignment of 20 tanks from an army barracks near the Syrian border in southeast Turkey to the Iraqi border has sparked speculation about an imminent Turkish incursion against Kurdish PKK rebel bases in northern Iraq. I think the lesson with this whole Iraq mess is that the whole thing was a grand social experiment that failed like most social experiments do.

Multiculturalism is a failing social experiment which probably will have much worse consequences for the West than Iraq.

Is the King of Clubs any worse than having a government run by Sadr which seems to be what will happen in the future? I'd just as soon take my chances with the King of Clubs if he can help keep Iran and Al Qaeda out!

There are no good choices here. Look, there are 3 philosophies that Arabs subscribe to: Sunni Islam (calls for domination of the world by Islam), Shia Islam (calls for domination of the world by Islam) and Baathism, a secular Islam (calls for Arab unity and domination of the world).

I don't understand how someone in the State Department didn't just say: "Its extremely likely that free elections will not bring in anyone who is much of an improvement over Saddam Hussein." Instead, these morons have an almost stupid blind faith in free elections.

What is everyone so upset about? The Iraqi government thinks it best to include former VP Izzat al-Douri in their new government. Forget that the Iraqis want to make their constitution subservient to Sharia, forget they are bringing back the Baathists, forget that the newly elected Shia-majority government is looking after Shiite interests first. Forget all of that.

We did what we could: firstly and most importantly to us, we verified that they have no WMD's. Next, we generously got rid of Saddam, his sons, and other top leaders. We gave them democracy and let them vote. We trained their police force and military. We rebuilt their infrastructure at our expense. Our mission is complete.

Whatever future they choose for themselves from here on out is not our problem (unless they begin building WMD's, in which case those too will have to be destroyed when the time comes).

We act like we're suprised that their society will not look like ours. Knowing the core values that they follow, we shouldn't be.

Let it go.

Along time ago since I did not have tarot cards, i know. . . booo your right! I did know what every card meant in a pak. The clubs are all bad cards and so are the spades! The King of clubs though, an evil man intending to do harm and will do harm at all cost! The jack of clubs his helper. I think 6 was a bad phone call or bad news. You have to set them up right to read them and they must cut them. The King of Clubs is a bad guy an opponent against even the very good man the King of Hearts. I will have to dig for the papers. It would freak people out when I read them their cards. I would not know them and they would be so freaked out! I'd say do you want me to say this out loud? 'Sure, sure" They said it was all true what I said! Freaky! no I am not a witch! I met witches, which were not witches and true believers of Satan worship would kill those who mocked or glorified themselfs to their religion of darkness. That was back in the days. Now we have ISALAMISM!!!! Koran is their 'book' predicts death!
