'High tempo' of terrorist chatter: FBI

Al-Qaeda, says John Miller, is getting more skillful. By James Gordon Meek for the New York Daily News, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

WASHINGTON - The FBI has increased its use of secret search warrants over the past two years because of a "high tempo of terrorist activity," a top official said yesterday.

FBI Assistant Director John Miller said the 2,176 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act search warrants approved last year, compared with only 1,754 granted in 2005, mostly targeted plotters inside America.

"We're seeing a very high tempo of terrorist activity, not just based on the cases you're seeing being brought in the United States," Miller said in an interview yesterday for C-SPAN's "Newsmaker" program.

Miller said the warrants, issued by a secret federal court in Washington, are usually not a "way to a prosecution," but are "an intelligence tool."...

Al Qaeda is "on a bell curve and they're getting more effective" at planning new strikes while pushing propaganda to inspire others to "take that ball and run with it."

"They're counting on both happening at once," Miller said. "They're better at this than they were before and they're thinking about it differently."

we are indeed getting more convictions than in the past....proof it is working...however, we still need to tighten immigration laws and ban Muslim immigration...and we need to do a better job protecting our borders...it is still far too easy to simply walk across without being stopped...

I'm confused. I thought we were fighting (and winning) in Iraq so the terrorists wouldn't follow us here.

I would suggest picking up some useful tools for salad tossing, as this instructional video illustrates.

I carry my salad shooter around with me from time to time. I highly recommend it.

Ban muslim immigration, yes and fast please. Here is a story about islamist brutality in America. It has many links that have been covered here. The victim a Hindu girl going to school at guess where, uci where else. The suspect well one of them is from gadahn’s area. Horrific islamist violence, the norm, comes to socal. But as a chaplain said, uci where hate and bigotry breed like cancer, this is no surprize.

here we go with the democrat-vs.-republican CRAP!

Oh, Sarge, your war against all muslims in all the muslim countries simultaneously (so republicans don't have to face defeat) is going splendidly. You just have 53 countries still to attack.

BTW, who's side are we fighting on in Iraq????

You don't know, do you??

The friendly, allied, Iraqi government our troops are getting killed to defend is called:

The Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution! (S.C.R.I)-- pretty scary isn't it? And pretty scary when they kidnap your soldiers or those of your ally Britian. With friends like that who needs enemies.

That''s right. Those are your allies AMERICA! Theocratic thugs who are turning once-secular Iraq into a theocratic Iranian client state.

There are none so blind as those that will not see. If you were a Muslim, sarge, you'd be a good Jihadi. A damned good one.

build onto it. right now l see nothing worth in the Democrat party, to bad as it been sold to moveone.org types.

Clinton let the Islamics in! Hello! He's the worst president in history, his sex-addict peccadilloes aside.

I dont know the validity of this, but I heard on the Michael Savage show, yesterday, that Bush either has, or plans, to give an executive order placing himself in charge of just about everything in the states, federal and local, including tribal lands.
Supposedly this is without congress, and is extra-constiutional. If that is true, he can declare an emergency and put himself in charge as a real King George. If this turns out to be the case, Geo is attempting a coup...whatch think about that??

Sometimes, the truth is stranger than diction///

....this has been going on for a long time...only the MSM is so anti-Bush, that they have shown only the negative items...translated anything resembling a victory must not be shown, the dhimmicrats control most of the MSM and the dhimmicrats have been extremely violent in their anti-Bush hatred...
I truly believe that there are Democrats who want anything but a victory in Iraq. A victory would make Bush look good. A victory would make Democrat defeatism look bad. Job one for Democrats is most certainly not trying to salvage Iraq. Job one for Democrats most certainly is laying the groundwork for increasing the Democrat majority in in Congress, and electing Hillary in 2008....and now the dhimmicrats may have the majority and they are moving on to follow through with their defeatist agendas....

@zena,exsgtbrown,bushmen all

A downright moron

“When a candidate for public office faces the voters he does not face men of sense; he faces a mob of men whose chief distinguishing mark is that they are quite incapable of weighing ideas, or even of comprehending any save the most elemental — men whose whole thinking is done in terms of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is dread of what they cannot understand. So confronted, the candidate must either bark with the pack, or count himself lost. His one aim is to disarm suspicion, to arouse confidence in his orthodoxy, to avoid challenge. If he is a man of convictions, of enthusiasm, or self-respect, it is cruelly hard…

“The larger the mob, the harder the test. In small areas, before small electorates, a first rate man occasionally fights his way through, carrying even a mob with him by the force of his personality. But when the field is nationwide, and the fight must be waged chiefly at second or third hand, and the force of personality cannot so readily make itself felt, then all the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum.

“The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their hearts desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

@sillyjihadi

You obviously agree with Bush that Islam is a religion of peace.

Very peaceful Muslims are the leaders of S.C.R.I. (The Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution) who are the allies of The USA in Iraq. I'm sure you have total confidence in Maliki and his cronies in Iraq. Very peaceful people. Real allies to America. Our dear friends.

You obviously support their effort to impose Sharia law, to banish Jews and Christians, and to establish an Iranian-style mullahcracy in what was formerly the secular state of Iraq.

So let me understand you. The Sunni Arabs are Jihadi terrorists, but not the Shia, right. The Shia (our allies) are friendly, dependable Muslims, and worth defending in their pursuit to establish a triumphant, Shia-style mullacracy in the new Iranian-Puppet-State-of-Iraq.

That's your victory fantasy!

Referred to above and very on topic.

Attached is a copy of the ‘unclassified’ portions of a new Presidential Directive:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/05/20070509-12.html#

It amounts to a suspension of the Constitution in the case of a ‘Catastrophic Emergency’, which is defined as ‘any incident’ meeting any one of a laundry list of items, up to and including a ‘disruption severely affecting government functions’. President Bush announced this power on May 9th and nobody has challenged it. If Iran isn’t worried about aircraft carriers steaming off its coast, it should probably be worried about the Directive’s language. As one who has acted as an agent of private interests looking to get government permits, allow me to translate:

"Enduring Constitutional Government," or "ECG," means a cooperative effort among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the Federal Government, coordinated by the President…

Translation: The President is the coordinator, the legislature and judiciary are the coordinated. The definition of ‘coordinate’ did not make it into the Directive.

The Director of the Office of Management and Budget shall:
(a) Conduct an annual assessment of executive department and agency continuity funding requests…

Translation: How many ‘annuals’?

…as well as guidance to promote interoperability of Federal Government continuity programs and procedures with State, local, territorial, and tribal governments, and private sector owners and operators of critical infrastructure, as appropriate.

Translation: Indian tribes are sovereign nations, independent of the constraints of Federal regulation. The President now reserves the right to conduct operations within Indian Reservations. Guantanamos, and lots of them, without the airplane trips. If you own something important, your stuff can be commandeered.

Annex A and the classified Continuity Annexes, attached hereto, are hereby incorporated into and made a part of this directive.

Translation: Nothing to see here, move along.

And did you know that KBR has a standing contingency contract to build $385 million worth of detainment facilities? The annual administrative costs billed to the Federal government to maintain the contract is $450,000. Just say the word Mr. President.

Buy your ammunition while you still can…

"Yankee Doodle" Allow me to answer each point.
1. No
2. No
3. No
4. No

You see Yankee Doodle, you are demonstrating yourself as someone who is unskilled and uneducated. You are the product of the mentality of a knee jerker, a shoot from the hip before you think, blow-em-all-to-bits mentality.

Your posts define you as someone who portrays oneself to be omnipitous. How magnanimous of you.

You apparently believe that you already know my thoughts, political affiliations, my queries, my analyses, my studies on islamic and shariah law & associated Hadiths, Siras and Fatwahs; you seem to know my philosophy on the Jewish Nation, you apparently purport to know who I propose are allies and who are enemies; and finally, you purport to know what "I" think is a victory.

I am starting to believe, that "I have no thoughts".

All of my thoughts are belong to you, Yankee Doodle. It will be up to you to analyze my writings, and have them be interpreted, spinned, sanitized and regurgitated for the consumption of the unwashed masses.

Do, go on, mister yankee doodle.

This should be just another (strong) fillip to prod the American people into 1-)outlawing Islam for being the violent crime that is actually is and 2-)deporting every practicing Muslim(Keith Ellison foremost among them) from North America ASAP.

Nothing else will do.

FBI Assistant Director John Miller said...that Al Qaeda "on a bell curve and they're getting more effective."

They're on a "bell curve," eh? Which end?

But even before answering that question, FBI Assistant Director John Miller might refresh his memory of relevant areas of mathematics and statistics, and he will then discover that what he had in mind was not a "bell curve" at all but rather a steeply rising learning curve.

Isn't the FBI supposed to inspire confidence among the citizenry? Aren't we supposed to sleep well a'nights, knowing that the stop-at-nothing know-everyhing FBI is protecting us -- and in the background are all the most brilliant people in our government, making grand strategy, always several steps ahead of the boys from Al Qaeda?

As Marge Gunderson says to her police-partner in "Fargo" after a particularly thick-headed example of his missing the obvious -- "I'm not so sure about that, Lou."

Posted by: Hugh [TypeKey Profile Page] at May 31, 2007 9:37 PM

pez;
That is a stunning document, thanks for the link. First I have heard of it. The question is what would be the event to call it to action, or even grant them this kind of power? What do "they" know?

How would this be greeted by America?

Stunning.

Hugh-

I think the lawman meant a "Bell's palsy".

(Which allows for the deadpan look of all the jihadists in their threatening videos.)

The learning curve of our side is horizontal, with no sign of rising.

Way below the belt.. and from a total newcomer to boot. Noone who knows YankeeD could ever accuse him of being a leftist.

He needs noone to come to his defense and has replied rather ably above to some of the regs who criticized him already.

I am not going to get into Dhims vs. Repubes here but I think this all started way earlier than the Clinton administration.

Greed cuts across party lines and the lines are becoming increasingly blurred.. the recent ratcheting-up rhetoric notwithstanding. See immigration amnesty bill as only the most recent example of this "bi-partisanship".

The bi-partisan sniping merely serves to solidify and bind the 'base' of both 'parties'.

I think that YankeeD and most of the Bush critics here are loyal to America and the West and have realized that neither of these parties serve our interests.

The ardent Bush supporters need to do some soul-searching combined with some serious fact-checking.

It would take special powers to round up and intern 2.7 Million Muslims when Iran activates its sleeper cells.

All that "peaceful" nonsense will fly right out the window.

2 points here:

1. The FBI agents and analysts on the ground ARE doing their job. Have we had an attack here yet? No, and that's because of the Patriot Act, National Security Letters, Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, the FBI & Federal authorities, the State & Local Law Enforcement community, and the people who pay attention to suspicious behavior.

2. Fighting in Iraq HAS created a focal point for attacks...the majority occur in Iraq, and AQ has told the 'troops' that Iraq is their main focus. But that doesn't mean US 'residents' will all go to Iraq...that would be suspicious & stupid. The authorities would notice.

This is just my opinion here, but since 9/11 there have been no other major attacks like it on US soil...YET.

The YET will depend on whom we elect to the Presidency & Congress in 2008. That's what we as ordinary citizens need to pay attention to, and communicate with others about during the next 18 months.

(Just don't pay attention to everything stated by 'typical' managers who are removed from everyday activities of their organization...they just can't know everything. I don't care what industry it is...that's just SOP in my view.)
