Israeli Broadcasting Authority Editor: We slanted the news to get our troops home from Lebanon

How many others have done and do this, in connection with all sorts of conflicts, and never admit it? But Chanan Naveh has no idea how he has aided the global jihad, and probably never will. "Editor Admits: We Slanted the News," by Hillel Fendel for Israel National News, with thanks to all who sent this in:

(IsraelNN.com) A former Israel Broadcasting Authority news editor admits: "We slanted the news towards a withdrawal from Lebanon - because we had sons there."

Speaking at the Haifa Radio Conference on Monday, several former and current news broadcasters on Voice of Israel and Army Radio discussed the tremendous influence they nearly all agreed they had on Israel's national agenda.

Dr. Chanan Naveh, who edited the Israel Broadcasting Authority radio's news desk in late 1990's and early 2000's, was particularly bombastic about his pervasive reach: "The morning audience, stuck in traffic jams or at work, is simply captive - they're ours." He also mentioned, with no regrets, two examples in which he and his colleagues made a concerted effort to change public opinion:

"Three broadcasters - Carmela Menashe, Shelly Yechimovich [now a Labor party Knesset Member - ed.], and I - pushed in every way possible the withdrawal from Lebanon towards 2000. In our newsroom, three of the editors had sons in Lebanon, and we took it upon ourselves as a mission - possibly not stated - to get the IDF out of Lebanon... I have no doubt that we promoted an agenda of withdrawal that was a matter of public dispute."

At this point, Army Radio broadcaster Golan Yochpaz interrupted, "In my opinion, that is just super-problematic - super-problematic." Naveh did not miss a beat and said, "Correct, I'm admitting it, I'm not apologizing, I'm just saying this is what happened. It came from our guts because of the boys in Lebanon, this is what we did and I'm not sorry... I am very proud that we had a part in getting of our sons out of Lebanon."

This is a little off this subject, but right now on Fox news, Neil Cavuto is interviewing a man about an article I turned into them about Islamberg where a man is hearing shots being fired, the women wearing full burkas, and where muslims outright look to be training for jihad. Now, do I know that I am the only one that turned this in - no, but I gave it to them so as to let them know more than just one person was interested in them finding out more about this and exposing this to everyone!!!

And they are saying they do indeed have affiliation with Al Qaeda!... on OUR shores... training to kill us!

yeah - muslims, islam and terrorism certainly are a bunch of peaceful things.

Greetings:

The admission part is shocking. I wonder if it was motivated by pride or remorse.

Regrettably, I can't imagine that many in American newsrooms have children in Iraq or on other battlefronts. But, I am sure that they have plenty of reasons for their mischief. Moral superiority is the cocaine of the 21st century.

Wow... Bias in reporting the news... Imagine that...

The shocking thing, though, is that they actually admitted to it...

Cheers,

Fools!! Even bigger fools than our MSM!!

Posted by: wrathofasma [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 5, 2007 4:27 PM

No, not fools.

Reading this heartfelt desire of parents to shield their children from harm, I am reminded of Colonel Kuntz's (Marlon Brando) monologue in Apocalypse Now, in which he says of men who can hack off kids arms : "...these were not monsters, these were men, trained cadres, these men who fought with their hearts, who have families, who have children, who are filled wi th love--that they had this strength, the strength to do that. If I had ten divisions of those men, then our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral and at the same time were able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling, without passion, without judgment--without judgment. Because it's judgment that defeats us".

And to defeat Hamas, Hezbollah and their ilk, we need men like these. We are fighting an enemy that has indeed infused his primodial insticts to kill without prejudice. We, unfortunately are letting our judgement get the better of us.

Remember that Mary Tyler Moore show where Mary and Rhoda are updating the station's obits and its getting late and they get goofy and write a silly obit for Minneapolis's oldest citizen? And a few days later of course Ted Baxter reads it on the air.

Mr. Grant came THIS CLOSE to firing her. He said its THE NEWS. It is SACRED. Do they teach that anymore?? The true reporter-of-events is a VITAL link in a democracy. The commentator is ANOTHER PERSON and if the roles blur we are in the worst kind of trouble.

The invasion of Lebanon was a Bush war. Olmert got really bad advice from our own idiot-in-chief. How do I know? Well, give me one example of anything Bush has touched that HAS NOT turned to CACA. You can't.

Olmet and Tzipi and Bush and Condi. Oy Vey! What a prescription for disaster.

No wonder the Israeli public didn't take this last war seriously. It was a bad joke and the joke was on Israel.

But the Israelis take responsibility, vet things, discuss, argue in the open public and always, always, keep on plugging till they get it right. Their military leaders are hard-headed and forward thinking.

They may be a little meshuggeneh, but I always put my money on the Israelis.

Posted by: Ynkedoodl2 [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 5, 2007 5:28 PM

Why don't they prosecute these broadcasters. If they make examples of them, it may not happen again in the future!

Posted by: McSeamus [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 5, 2007 5:37 PM

This is one reason NOT to have national broadcasting services and to ensure a maximum of competition.
There's a good opinion piece by Michael Lewis over at http://www.bloomberg.com on the state of newspapers and how the Wall Street Journal and the NYT have been clobbered by the internet, where there is a state of near perfect competition in news. As in this site, for example.

The broacasters did the right thing, now fire them, or arrest them, or both. That could be called treason...How many Israeli soldiers died as a result of these people saving their sons?

Posted by: duh_swami [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 5, 2007 5:55 PM
"We slanted the news towards a withdrawal from Lebanon - because we had sons there."

Did you? And then you undermined them and every member of the military and cost how many others their lives?

That SOB should say that directly to the parents of Gilad Shalit, ; and those of Eldad Regev or those of Ehud Goldwasser (Karnit, is his wife, Shlomo his father and Mickey his mother.)

Then arrest him and charge him with treason. I'd be SHAMED to be his progeny.

R_not thanks for sending that in, I was surprised to see it on the MSM. lol I was hoping the MSM was finally reading Jihad Watch for a change!

Posted by: mrockroll1969 [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 5, 2007 6:44 PM

Instead of fighting in Lebanon, perhaps now their sons will have to fight in the streets of Tel Aviv.

Wonder where these TV people will go when hamas or the hesbos enter Israel. To the islamists their easy prey, and the first ones to be killed. What fools they are dancing with the devil.

C-SPAN is always talking to reporters (not commentators) who come on and discuss their NEWS stories and take calls from viewers.

I've heard more than one answer accusations of bias by saying "I'm a reporter, not a commentator."

I'll remember this story the next time I hear that drivel. These Israeli "editors" need to be drummed out of journalism. I wouldn't trust them to tell me what happened at the police station. That's how much damage people like them to do journalism.

Posted by: PMK [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 5, 2007 7:42 PM

This is a very disturbing admission.

Listen, people, we are all mortal. Are we do be taken over by those who do not fear death but revel in it because we are too prideful to sacrifice for what we believe in?

Think on that.

The war is upon us.

*Are we to be...

Posted by: Foehammer [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 5, 2007 8:42 PM

The bias isn't new...one who admits it is.
Our MSM's been slanting news for decades, but they vociferously deny it (if they did, it'd spell their doom, even faster than it's already tanking).

I respect this guy because he admitted the slant.
Those who claim objectivity, when they're blatant ideologues, deserve less than zero...but that's already in the works, since they're reaping what they've sewn for decades anyway-their ratings are tanking.

It has long been time to admit to ourselves that what we're presented in the MSM bears little or no relation to reality. On many subjects, but first and foremost Islam.

It has long been time to admit to ourselves that what we're presented in the MSM bears little or no relation to reality. That's patently true on many subjects, but first and foremost it is true about Islam, because that's the most foreboding subject of all.

The world is in deep denial over its being in deep doo-doo. Islam has declared war on 6 billion people and now has the military capacity to kill off a goodly percentage of this figure. No one really knows how to defuse this nightmare.

Lying to ourselves is self-defeating now more than ever. Israel offers proof of this (as if any more proof is needed).

This delusion we find ourselves in...I wish wishing would make the bogeyman go away, unfortunately the bogeyman is coming for us all. Will we fight? Be assured he will.

looks like the msn is not different in any country..............

Posted by: Texican [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 6, 2007 12:41 AM

It's just sad... I can understand this man to a certain point, but, stil. Higher things are at stake - survival of the state.

This is how war is lost. The more determined wins. Israel is under siege for 60 years, it can't afford to lose edge. Muslims have no doubts, they have proven that they are more than willing to die for the cause.

Maybe some Israelis are tired, maybe they don't want to fight any more, but, in my opinion, that is single greatest threat to their survival in hostile jihadist enviroment.

""We slanted the news towards a withdrawal from Lebanon - because we had sons there."

...the American MSM slants the news because they hate the government and they hate any victory that results because of government policy....they, therefore, print mostly negative and/or biased news items....

Posted by: exsgtbrown [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 6, 2007 6:43 AM

They definitely did it out of pride -- which would be consistent with a typical religious leftist. They hold the views they do and behave the way they do in order to win the approval of those they consider their clergy and co-religionists.

They said it flat out. "I'm not apologizing", "I am very proud".

They want that "Good fer you!!!!" so they can close their eyes and say "Thaaaaaaanks!"

Don't we have a word for those who provide aid to the enemy? Starts with a "T". Ends with an "R". An theres a "raito" in the middle?

What do most countries laws say we ought to do with them?

Posted by: philmon [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 6, 2007 9:51 AM

The muslimahs don't wear burqas at islamberg.

These people need hanging. Unfortunately, the Israeli judiciary is notoriously as far left as they are. Both groups would serve the country much better swinging from the end of ropes than in their current positions - and I am not, repeat not, esaggerating.

Unfortunately, some of the previous posters are wrong. These creatures are of the elite, and the elite never suffers. Before Israel fell, judges and media leaders would be on the last boat leaving, having long since provided to place their savings in some nice safe Swiss account. They will then spend the rest of their days in peace, perhaps penning the occasional memory about their beloved, fallen Israel for extra money.

I know how: Remove the justification for all of it. I hope some day we'll be focused and strong enough to do it.

"I respect this guy because he admitted the slant."

from a poster

But do you want to listen to his newscasts in the future? So are you going to believe him the next time he slants the news just because he admitted to this one time?

An admission such as his deserves respect only when it is accompanied by a letter of resignation.

Posted by: PMK [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 6, 2007 11:50 AM

It doesn't matter if he did. It may be true?..
Israel saw they seem to be totally alone in this matter, when we were all fighting the same thing! That would have been a good time to of used the media to make it effective but they did not! Lebanon used the media to all kinds of propaganda! I thought Israel was brave and came out tough! The media began howling for the innocents being killed! When in fact Israel is very good at hitting their target! Israel still now rest in the shadows of peace.-This is not how I thought it would turn out either, in the way of support and unity!

A Plague on Both Houses:

Muslims will attack and kill 'unbelievers' with NO discernible justification anyway. They have been doing this for at least 1400 years (and I suspect much longer than that). The only grounds a jihadist needs to commit a homicide against an 'unbeliever' (the act of which is a 'victory' for al-lah, says Islamic leaders) is the fact that they were NOT a Muslim. The 'unbeliever' has therefore committed a 'crime against God' and may be massacred.

The Kuran states "and when the forbidden months have ended slay the unbelievers everywhere they are found....." And Muslims by and large BELIEVE it. (I am sorry, but they do) and they then go out and find ways to carry it out (as on 9-11).

Islam has no obvious justification for its endless homicides. It just kills and kills and kills....

(Actually I think I know what all this jihad warfare really is, but that wouldn't change anything insofar as handling it on our side is concerned).

But the western democracies DEFINITELY need to muster up the cojones to take care of business with these killer-Zombies (as through the use of EMP deployments over the airspaces of Middle Eastern and Pakistani and other Islamic holdouts). The barbarians have killed far too may of our people already. And unless we act decisively, whatlosses we've experienced so far may be only a curtain-raiser.

There is a, perhaps apocryphal, story about a British sailor who allowed a cannon to get loose on the deck of a battleship. He then single-handedly and at grave peril, captured it, tied it down and got it fixed back in place.

The next morning, after the battle, he was dignified with a medal before the whole crew for heroically securing the cannon, and then hanged from the yard arm for letting it loose in the first place.

I think the Israelis should follow the example.

Award him with a TV show congratulations for his honesty, and then shoot the bastard for treason.

BTW This one seems like a judgement call. Is this really a JihadWatch or a DhimmiWatch piece?
