KABUL - Gunmen shot dead an outspoken female journalist in northern Afghanistan, five days after another female reporter was killed in a similar incident, officials said on Wednesday.
Zakia Zaki, headmistress of a girls school in Parwan province and owner of a private radio station called Radio Sulh (Radio Peace), was fatally shot by three unknown gunmen who broke into her house on Tuesday night, Parwan provincial governor Abdul Jabar Takwa told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
‘A group of three unknown armed men entered her house in Jabalsaraj city and shot her seven times in her back, head, chest and feet,’ Takwa said, adding the gunmen escaped from the area before a police unit arrived at the scene.
Takwa said that an investigation was ongoing to find the culprits.
Rahimullah Samander, head of Afghanistan’s Independent Journalist Association, said that Zaki had reported to their association that she was threatened by local commanders to shut down the radio station or face the consequences.
In 2005 she told DPA that she had received several threats from local religious warlords in the area for airing songs that they deemed un-Islamic.
Her death came five days after two gunmen entered the house in Kabul of Shakiba Sanga Omaaj, another female newscaster and reporter for a private TV channel, Shamshad, and shot her dead.
Police said that Omaaj’s family stated that she had received several threats by unknown people through letters, thrown at their home, warning her to stop working for the Channel.
Alishah Paktiawal, head of the police investigation section of Kabul city, said that the police arrested a man who was suspected by her family to be behind her murder.

CAIR will most certainly will protest if there are "civilians" killed in a raid conducted by coalition forces...you can bet on it...

The story I read about this incident (BBC) states that the reporter was killed while sleeping with her 20 month old child. Manly men or a group of sullen, uneducated savages? You decide.

The story refers to an "investigation", as most such stories do. Have such investigations into the killing of people accused of "un-Islamic" acts ever resulted in an arrest or conviction? I've certainly never seen a news item to that effect.

Indeed. Persectution is worse than slaughter. Kill anyone who suppress Islam as the sole explanation of everything.
All of this stuff started to make sense to me when I read the Qur'an and understood what the Sunnah means to believers. All the pointless brutality, the oppression, the killings, the destruction, the crazed, irrational thoughts and statements from whole groups of people --- it all has an internal consistency when you frame it in terms of Qur'an, Sunnah and jihad.

Ibn Sa'd: Kitab al-Tabaqat al-Kabir
Ibn Sa'd's Kitab al-Tabaqat al-Kabir describes the death of Asma bint Marwan:
Then (occurred) the sariyyah of Umayr ibn adi Ibn Kharashah al-Khatmi against Asma Bint Marwan, of Banu Umayyah Ibn Zayd, when five nights had remained from the month of Ramadan, in the beginning of the nineteenth month from the hijrah of the apostle of Allah. Asma was the wife of Yazid Ibn Zayd Ibn Hisn al-Khatmi. She used to revile Islam, offend the prophet and instigate the (people) against him. She composed verses. Umayr Ibn Adi came to her in the night and entered her house. Her children were sleeping around her. There was one whom she was suckling. He searched her with his hand because he was blind, and separated the child from her. He thrust his sword in her chest till it pierced up to her back. Then he offered the morning prayers with the prophet at al-Medina. The apostle of Allah said to him: "Have you slain the daughter of Marwan?" He said: "Yes. Is there something more for me to do?" He [Muhammad] said: "No. Two goats will butt together about her.
The Taliban are simply following the example of the rightly guided. Mohammed is the template for everything that the true believers say, think and do. May allah give them what they deserve. May all true believers get what they truly deserve.

How long will it be before this starts becoming a regular thing in America? We don't see it on a regular basis here, but I would bet that time isn't far away. It's gonna be real hard to keep it PC when town militias start reforming to protect themselves since others wont.

Personally, I don't believe there are any "Moderate Muslims."
The only Muslims I trust are ex-Muslims who have renounced Islam. Hirsi Ali, Nonie Darwish, Dr. Wafa Sultan, Salman Rushdie and many others.

In many of these type's of attack's, no one of any authority sent the attacker's. They are already in the employ of Allah. They never see the boss, or hear from hom, but they have his book. Allah state's quite clearly who he want's attacked, and why.
Allah give's few specific's, leaving detail's of 'how amd when' to his jihdist's. So Islamic terrorists can be associated with a group, or they can act alone. In all cases they act as a coward act's. It matter's little to Allah, as long as they fight in his name...

Darcy - I do believe that moderate people call themselves Muslims, but those same people will not be able to take control of the Islamic agenda for several reasons.
Moderate Muslims will not be able to wrest control of the agenda for several reasons. First of all, Mohammed, the Messenger of Allah’s eternal word, was not moderate. No moderate can legitimately tell another Muslim to stop doing the extremist things Mohammed himself did. Also, the Qur’an condones violence and coercion to further the Islamic agenda. People whom we call moderates are labeled hypocrites by Allah Himself in the Qur’an. Moderates will always lose the argument because, as ex-Muslim author Ibn Warraq says, “There may be moderates in Islam but Islam itself is not moderate.”
Also - a tiny minority of extremists can control a vast number of good moderates, making them irrelevant.
Moderate people are not the answer to the problems of jihad, since the appeal to force is seen as a valid way of winning the argument in the Islamic world.
Also, moderate people calling themselves muslims still beleieve that Islam should control everyone and believe that muslims 'are the best of peoples'. The difference is a matter of tactics and behaviors with moderates - not a matter of disupting the core assumptions of Islam. Islam itself is the problem and is not moderate in any sense of the word.

Yeah, this is it, a real democratic utopia where the savages elect their favorite enforcers of sharia and everyone lives in theocratic bliss, especially the women. What a waste of time, money, and most of all, the lives of our brave soldiers. These illiterate, primitive, tribal dimwits are hopelessly mired in their "ancient" culture and seem to be entirely happy with it.
If the terrorist training camps and the taliban return, we can always go back and blast them to kingdom come. Why stay there and try to modernize this islamic netherworld? They will only destroy everything we build; they don't want freedom, prosperity, or modernity, they want islam, shariah, and the dark ages. Give them what they want. Maybe some day the women will revolt en masse and demand to be treated like human beings. Maybe not. Let them build their own country or let them tear it to shreds; I really don't give a damn. We should not sacrifice the lives of our soldiers or our money and time in a futile effort to civilize barbarians. Same goes for Iraq. Feral beasts cannot be tamed but they can be contained and that is all we should worry about--keeping them as far away from us as possible.

Jihadists practice degrees of self delusion. They fear Allah is watching, so they obey chapter and verse. They attempt to exert control by enforcing strict Islam. Sharia is used to measure and discipline behavior. Physical actions are required.
But reality is not acknowledged. The closest followers lack leeway to rectify flaws. They are unable to discover true mind and motivation. The structure is meant to promote order, but it drives out judgment. The monoculture removes enjoyment, and it accounts for disastrous decisions. Non-Muslims are blamed for the cause of their failures. More holy war is the response, to further spread their reach. Their own laxness and selfishness are not considered. The truth is lost.
Human nature works differently. The rational world has centuries of thought about good and bad behavior. Freethinkers prefer clarity and realism over superstition. The human variation of thought will move institutions forward and increase individual responsibility.

This is bad! Massoud would be appaulled! Kabul has not gotten any better since he was killed! Which, it has gotten worse! Our "allies" said they would help there but not in Iraq, ok fine start! I do not blame it on 'oh' we insulted their religion! Is BS! We are aiding and embedding them here! Hell, in Islamberg outside NY they are training to cut our throats! Massoud was no saint, he butchered thousands of Hazaras is his day.
It's an enlightening experience to speak to Afghan 'terps (G.I. slang for interpreters) about what savages all the leaders of the Afghan Jihad movement are. They did a bang-up job of driving Afghanistan deeper into the stone age than the Russians did, and they paved the way for the Taliban takeover as well.
