As if the BBC and CNN weren't enough for them already.
"Iran to vie with West by launching news channel," from Reuters, with thanks to Ur:
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's state broadcaster will launch a 24-hour English-language satellite news channel next week to rival dominant Western services, a senior official said on Tuesday.Tehran-based PRESS TV starts broadcasting from Tehran on Monday staffed by both Iranians and foreigners, and will seek to compete against the likes of CNN and BBC World, Nader Rad, head of live programming, told Reuters.
"The news is mostly covered by the Western media. We would like to have a say in this," he said.
"They (Western outlets) don't usually cover the whole story ... The news about Iraq does not cover all perspectives. The news about Palestine and Beirut is also like this," he said.
Rad said Britons and Americans were among those working for the new channel, some based in Tehran. PRESS TV had journalists in Washington, New York, London, Beirut and Damascus, and was planning to have staff in Baghdad and Cairo, he said.
The PRESS TV Web site (www.presstv.ir) said one of the goals was "to break the global media stranglehold of Western outlets." It also said the channel wanted to "bridge cultural divisions."

If this is available here it will be the standard that will replace CNN and will drive opinion on the left.
Should be fun to watch.

I was just thinking what an entertaining place Iran is. What prompted this were the pictures of the iranian morality goons making soccer-clad young men drink human waste from jerry cans while being dragged in front of jeering mobs. It was amazing entertainment. Loony Tunes meets Freddie Kruger! I think it would be helpful if us infidels could see more of this kind of thing.

A story out of Iraq on CNN a while ago, compared made the usual comparisons to Vietnam and actually referred to the war as a "nationalist struggle". Laughable.

Personally I would expect this channel to be less biased than the BBC.

Rad said Britons and Americans were among those working for the new channel, some based in Tehran.
Will Britons and Americans working for the new channel have greater freedoms and guarantees of security than people like Alan Johnston or Daniel Pearl?
Will they have to be Muslims or report nothing that casts Islam in an unfavorable light?
Will they have to wear clothing that is "Islamic enough"?
Will they be allowed to report the truth or will they be censored and barred from reporting stories that Tehran deems "offensive"?
Will they become hostages to the good behavior of their governments?
Since when does the Iranian revolutionary government recognize freedom of the press? It didn't even recognize Salman Rushdie's right to free expression in a country that wasn't part of the Muslim world.

Can't wait for their searing expose on the Iranian police beatings of "westernized" students.
Or the breathless cut-aways to the hangings of young girls from construction cranes for their sassing of the ayatollahs.
Should be great.
Inshallah.

What more can CNN and BBC do to help the Muzzies than it already is. The anti-Zionists own CNN and BBC. A truly balancing approach would be a purely Israeli point of view. A better idea would be one network giving both sides of the story, but the Muzzies would firebomb them.

And Now, Live From the Gaza Strip:
Alan Johnston reports on the latest atrocities!
(oops, remove the explosives vest first though)

I thought we already had news networks like this? CNN, CBS, ABC, and NBC are already shills for Pres. Tom and mullahs, Osama, Rosie, and everyone else who hates civilization.
HEY- That's an idea! Instead of "FOX and Friends", they could have a morning show called "Pres. Tom and Friends". They could marry off a 12 year old, chop off a few hands, burn some American flags, behead a journalist.
The possibilites are limitless!
Seriously, I wish SOMEONE would show the truth about these folks. All the pro-islamic spin from the MSM in the US makes me sick.

I think it would be a good thing to be able to see a news story from both points of view. For instance, a story about a suicide bombing inside a mosque, how the west tells it, and how tehran spins it, should actually be an education for us. Something in the vein of keeping your friends close, and your enemies closer, or the fly on the wall idea, we can't get into their heads (who would want to), but at least we could see things through their eyes.

Do you think they'll be hiring Rosie now that The Price Is Right is off the table?

Well, if al Jazeera can be received in both Canada and US, why not this? If anything, it can dry up any Mohammedan viewership of CNN and BBC, and send them further into a tailspin.

I believe GamblersChoice raises a good point. The Iranians will go ahead with this if for no other reason than to distract attention from they have to say on Farsi or Arabic outlets. However, it could become quite interesting to hear the slant they intend to put upon whatever news they cover.
If it's an English version of the usual anti western drivel and outright lies that they usually expound upon, it could be rather amusing to watch. Only, at the same time, the propensity of far too many Muslims to accept without question what their 'leaders' tell them in the Middle East could also make things a lot more difficult.

Good to see that our enemy is also capable of bad strategic judgments. This "news" source will either (1) be totally redundant; (2) a total farce; or (3) educational to the public in that it sets forth what our enemy says about us.
The more Iran talks, the better for us.

I wonder if these good media folks in Iran are providing any financing to Cinematic Happenings Under Development" ??
Just wondering...

Agreed, JSobieski. The mullahs continue to misinterpret Western cowardice and stupidity as evidence of their own cunning and intelligence. Any reasonably intelligent, logical, and strategically thoughtful Western leader would know what to do about the mullahs. Instead, our leaders make these desert primitives look like geniuses.

Awww...
Too many of you folks beat me to it-- I was going to observe that this development can only be a good thing, for all the reasons mentioned above.
If it's English language, to begin with, no one can whine and cry about the interpretation of Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, etc.
I can't wait to hear what these people have to say, in their own words, in my language. C'mon Muslims--tell me why bombings and rapes, and torture, and maimings are such great things!
