"Restive" is the mainstream media's Homeric epithet of choice for jihad activity in Thailand. Here it is applied in connection with the closing of an Islamic school that was linked to the jihadists. Imagine! An Islamic school, where presumably the students learned all about the peaceful teachings of the Qur'an and Muhammad, and yet they turned to jihad violence! Now how could it have possibly happened that the jihad ideology could have gained traction in an Islamic school? Hmm...
"Islamic school shut down, rebels kill three in restive Thai south," from AFP (thanks to Jeffrey Imm):
NARATHIWAT, Thailand (AFP) - Thai authorities said Friday they have shut down an Islamic school with alleged links to separatist rebels in the nation's restive south, where three people were killed in fresh unrest. The licence for the Islam Burapha religious school was revoked after seven bomb makers were arrested there on Monday, said Natthaphon Vichienpres, deputy governor of Narathiwat province.
Narathiwat is one of three Muslim-majority provinces where more than 2,300 people have been killed since an insurgency broke out in January 2004.
"A provincial meeting agreed that this school is a gathering place for planning terrorist attacks and it implanted separatist ideology and used the school premises as a training ground," Natthaphon told reporters.
An eighth man, a 43-year-old religious teacher, was also arrested Friday in connection with the boys boarding school.

Glad to see the so many Muslims are restiveing after learning the peacefull ways of Mohammed. Like Bush says .. there is nothing in the Qur'an to incite hate or violence right? So it is good to see that after attending Madrassas how restivefull people become. I could use a vacation ... maybe I should relax and restiveate in southern Thialand ... sounds so tranquil.

Did Bush actually go out of his way to say that NOTHING is in the Qur'an that would incite violence? Man, he cant leave office soon enough.

Well at least they actually closed it down, rather than leave it up, due to some politically correct and/or apologist reason.

I wonder how many other Islamic schools are contributing to this 'restive' problem. I feel a little 'restive' myself. Everytime I read of jihadist activity, my 'restive' level go's up.
Maybe I should start a class in 'restive' therapy.
There are a lot of 'restive' liberals and other leftists around here that could benefit.

It's not enough to shut down one madrasa. The flow of money from the rich Arabs, especially Saudis, has to be staunched. Saudi Arabia's wealth, the tens of billions of dollars that have been spent to build and maintain mosques and madrasas, and to supply Saudi-educated or Saudi-connected imams, can be stopped. The Infidels keep thinging they "need Saudi goodwill." Nonsense. They need, in order to obtain Saudi oil, to proffer the market price. And that is all, and that is all they ever had to do. What happened, in the Western capitals especially, was this notion of having to do favors for the owner-attendant at the local gas station, above and beyond paying the price indicated on the pump, made and makes no sense. But it has been the careful theme promoted by the Saudis, and by those who are on their payroll, as "consultants" in "international business" or "government affairs" or who do legal work for them (Baker & Botts, with the Baker being "James Baker"), or who otherwise have profited, or stand handsomely to profit, from their own private Saudi or other Arab connection, and who have cheerfully pitched in to deceive the American public about the nature of the al-Saud, and Wahhabi Saudi Arabia, and of course, Islam.
Thailand, and the United States, and all others, should stop Saudi money from entering their countries -- or if it enters, should seize as much of it as they can. It is being used to undo the political and legal institutions of the Infidel state; it is being used to mold Muslim minds, to build on the notion of the state of permanent war that must exist between Believer and Infidel, that is part of Islam, in order to make those Believers less quiescent, more murderously dangerous -- as what has gone on in Bosnia once the Saudi money and "Arab volunteers" arrived, and is now going on in southern Thailand and two dozen other places around this giddy globe.

Compare and contrast the separatist violence in Thailand with the potential for the same in the southwestern US among Mexican-Americans. Despite a history of blatant US imperialism against Mexico, we don't see Mexican-Americans making bombs at their parochial schools or beheading innicent people as part of an irredentist struggle. As Robert would say: "Now why is that?"

Why do we hear that Asian Muslims pose less of a danger to us than the Arabs? This article shows that they all have the same goal.
An Islamic takeover of Thailand was prevented by a Thai victory in over the Sultanate of Pattani in 1785.
But for the people of Pattani, this war has not ended. The Muslim converts of Pattani never reconciled to the reconquest of Pattani by the Thais and continued to terrorize the Buddhist population intermittently throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. In the 20th and 21st centuries this rebellion has taken the form of an insurgency. And even to this day there are terrorist incidents in Pattani, in which innocent students, teachers and Buddhist monks are routinely murdered.
It's a lengthy article but its moral is that the only way to defeat Muslims is to use their own tactics against them in spades. Crusaders and the Mongols of Asia have been the only people to score a victory over Islam in its native lands. A particular irony is that many Asian countries were rescued from Islamic tyranny and takeover only by the arrival of Europeans. It's no wonder the Muslims hate "colonialists". But for the Dutch, Spanish and Portugese, all of Asia might today be Islamic.
The old English adage “Everything is fair in love and war,” holds greatest relevance while battling the Muslims. And only when we in the Non-Muslim world realize this and go into an overreach with subterfuge against the Terrorists (all of whom are Muslims), and use our still prevailing (but fast closing) edge of superior weapons against the enemy, can the Muslims finally be defeated in the looming Third World War.

The West won't get what its up against until we collectively get a bloody nose IOW a series of terrorist attacks that kill many thousands in Europe and the U.S.
Thats what it will take to wake the west up and silence the PC leftists and their apparatchiks in Congress.
I see it happening like this:
1)The Jihadists use suicide car bombs across Europe and the U.S. and the results leave thousands dead.
2)The resultant outcry from the populace for revenge forces the politicos to stop listening to the liberals and their Islamic associates. Because if they don't the people will take the law into their own hands and solve the problem their way.
Why do I think the social dynamics will play it out in our favor. People(minus the intelligensia and liberal elite don't trust Muslims and don't have a favorable opinion of them ever since 9/11 and the Iraq war - where their bloodymindedness is there for all to see.)
And I remember after 9/11 people were pissed at the Muslims and on the verge of kicking their asses. If we do suffer another series of Islamic terror bombings you can bet that the peoples patience with these followers who worship a 7th century bandit chieftan will be at end.
As far as the left goes, they are scum and no friends of the U.S. and I say this as a Democrat. I remember after the July London attacks the liberal blogs were filled with postings insinuating "they had it coming", "what did they expect", many of them were gloating like some Jihadist.

Elric actually that me me being a bit of a paraphrase if you will, but this was taken out of a recent article here.
There Imam Bush goes again. "I am astonished by President Bush when he claims there is nothing in the Quran that justifies jihad violence in the name of Islam," jailed Islamic scholar Abu Qatada said under similar circumstances almost six years ago. "Is he some kind of Islamic scholar? Has he ever actually read the Quran?"

This is what I think it will look like.
Necessity is the mother of invention. When we in the west make our move against Islam in the interest of preserving our societies I believe the solution will be simple and effective. It will have to be something with little nuance. Something consumable by the masses. If you look at history such moves are never done with much politeness. When we are pushed to that point look to history as your guide. Try Spain, specifically what happened after the recoquista. Minus the weekend outing for a public burning at the stake, we may see similar laws effected. Brutal, simple effective.

Hugh,
regarding the Saudi money men, you are right on. Behind al-Queda, and senior to it, is the Golden Chain. (See Meet the bin Ladens, and list of members of Golden Chain. You can also just search for "Golden Chain" Osama or "Golden Chain" Usama)
It is my opinion that Osama's main role was not in operational planning, but as a trusted middle man between the financial elites of Saudi and elsewhere and the operational teams. I think he was mainly acting as "venture capitalist", channeling funding to where it would have the most effect, while shielding the sources of financing from any blowback from the operations.
As long as the money men are immune from retaliation, they will be able to set up and fund an endless series of terrorist organizations.

All over the U.S. we need to rise up, as some black ministers did in FL, and fight the zoning boards allowing ANY mosques to be built.
Muslims react wildly to Salman Rushdie's book because it "insults" their religion. But Christians (and Jews) need to realize that the q'uran is a plagiarism of the Torah and the book of Luke. With some major changes, like Abraham starting a new religion with his bastard son Ishmael, and oh...Jesus born of a virgin (they love that), his only purpose in this world to announce the coming of Mohammed, the "prophet" with no prophecies. This supposed religion is an incredible crock. It needs to be stopped, and first it needs to be understood. The more you know of it, the easier it is to be repulsedby it.

Bush is not intellectually lazy. That's a leftist mantra.
Bush is surrounded by ivory tower intellectual elites who are blind.
I attended a seminar on "Islam and the West" sponsored by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute - ISI - (a very good organization which promotes conservative viewpoints of history, Western Civilization, and politics).
We had several speakers including Dr. Bruce Thornton who is a classical historian (he writes on Victor Davis Hanson's website), Dr. Bart Spruyt who is a Dutch conservative journalist, Dr. Kamran Beigi, an Iranian scholar on Islam and the Middle East, and Dr. David Forte, another Islamic scholar who occasionally serves on the National Security Council. Dr. Forte has also participated in an advisory capacity with the Iraqi Constitution.
Now, Dr. Forte, who is a very learned man, has the most political experience out of that group of speakers. However, I noticed that his attitude towards Islam is quite different from the rest of the gentlemen there. He continuously refused to accept the viewpoint that there is anything inherently wrong with Islam, but that it was just a handful of radicals who have "hijacked" the religion. He also blamed their violence on "tribalism". He also underlined the "true meaning" of "jihad", calling it "personal struggle" and that it is a "good thing".
Drs. Thornton, Beigi and Spruyt disagreed. As do I.
We have men like Dr. Forte advising the President, and other political circles. It's people like him who are blinded by something which is NOT political correctness, but something else... a form of misguided Christianity which fails to accept EVIL at face value. Like Neville Chamberlain in the 1930's...
People like that have to be removed or replaced in order for this country and for the West to win this war.
BTW, I highly recommend supporting the ISI - organizations like that help underscore what is GREAT and GOOD about Western Civilization. And that's something the younger generations have failed to learn or appreciate. We cannot win the war against Islam if we do not understand and value what we are fighting for.

I think Bush is walking a tightrope on the subject of the religion of mohammed (pee be upon him). Like having that WH dinner on Ramadama-ding dong. He knows better.
I am not anti-war, but I don't see how our soldiers can fight on the same side as these muslims. At the golden mosque, they held back, many who were supposed to be on "our side" and let their brothers attack. Our soldiers are always being court-martialed for attacking civilians. Hell, this is a war against civilians. Kiddie-bombers, ambushers, torturers. Not all the muslims in the world are worth the life of ONE u.s. soldier.

I suspect that the violent extremists in southern Thailand are being given succour and financial aid by maleovelent Islamic groups in Malaysia and Indonesia. Malay Muslim groups have also been contributing funds to support Islamists in Mindanao, in the Phillipines. The aim is to subvert Buddhist Thailand (although Thailand does not have Buddhism enshrined as the official state religion)
Nice to see that BBC World is running an advertisment promoting tourism in Malaysia. Malaysia's current prime minister invites everyone to visit Malaysia. What he doesn't mention is that if you are Jewish, homosexual or unmarried couple you are not welcome (as one elderly American couple found out last year when their hotel room was raided by Malaysia's idiotic religious police who suspected they weren't married).
The dead hand of Islam is clawing at Thailand.

Is this the first? History! Someone finally figured out the poison vase! This was so bad, the children cannot be children of God. Now there is some chance?
Now that I thought about it. I believe al-gaeda changed their stradegy too. Wonder what they plan on using it for? Oh,,...pps.. I need a V-8..?
that site I gave you not to long ago. I believe they have, right here in the states, changed their stradegy! I seen maps of tunnels under UCLA, it is all code! I read alot of..fff....man speak with fork tongue! Crapp! They talk of airplanes, malls, football places, government places no one to guard it. Doctors here. Well, he was mainly talkin of LA too! Chicago, New York!
What a no good Bush is! Lots of stuff. The blacks. How white he looks. He speaks of muslims, and had new words I should of wrote down. I can go back. It's the way they talk. Has his site changed! He warned them before to be careful they said things like. Walk over the bridge don't look down. While fire is below.? Still trying to find that paper. I checked out his archives that is what I am in. Probaly a tease heh,,...let me think...for I sure need to read alot more. ????
Verryaly interesting......and probably TRHRUE..
If it is what I think I am reading and not being some paranoid nut.. we are in trouble.. like a cancer like Cal said!.
at July 8, 2007 12:25 AM
Sorry, I got on that. I also have thought about that boy that was raped by several men and thrown out in the street and lay unconcious at a mosque in Pakistan! The brutality! This is too much! These men that did that will be destroyed by the true maker. Jehweh! Jesus Christ said, "do not harm a hair on any young one, it will be worse than a milestone hung around their neck and tossed into the deep seas!"
How can anyone shut down a mosque and not face alot of blood shed! Thailand I wish it where nice again.. again? It is, or could be a nice place. Like all the places. Just let the islamist dwell where the islamist dwell. In there stuck time of ignorance and death and destruction! There own land! hell..?...just not here! nor there nor anywhere..!

I seriously doubt if Bush has read the Qur'an. His illustrious advisors have led him to believe that muslim violence and terrorism are aberrations. I don't know how anyone could seriously study islamic history and islamic canonical texts and conclude that islam is peaceful and innocuous. It is simply impossible.
Apologists will find some excuse for every unpleasant fact about islam but the only people buying the BS are those who don't want to know the truth. We cannot allow muslims and their apologists to continue misleading the American public about islam. Many Americans instinctively understand that islam is evil but they feel like they have no right to protest or complain. This is our country and we should complain and demand changes in immigration policies until our voices are heard.

Whenever I see the word "restive" I know I'm reading filtered liberal culturally sanitized Orwellian "polite speak" bullshit.
My room-mate was in Bankok, Thailand when 7 bombs went off on New-Year's Eve - he said people just shrugged and moved on while the police and fire personnel tried their best to help people.
He made it sound like when I walk past a barfight and stop to watch for a few seconds - then continue walking because I don't want to get involved. None of my business.
What a load of crap the world is becomming when muslim terrorists are about as pesky as mosquitos and simply need swatting.
1.2 billion religious fundamentalist mosquitos that do nothing but suck our blood and resources - we need an industrial sized bug zapper sitting in orbit above these infestations.
Oh that's right we have one of those - only we have a bought off and paid for chicken manning the switch.
Does anyone think Hillary has the balls to flip the switch?? Me neither.

Well, I have to disagree, atheling, as I am not a "leftist."
George W. Bush is a graduate of Yale and a U.S. President. He should be able to discern the truth about Islam himself, esp. since the Muslim problem is the most important issue of our time.
I'm not a Bush hater. However, I think that by not "getting" Islam yet, 6 years after 9/11 and a profusion of additional violence/mass-murder by Muslims, he is intellectually lazy. He could request from one of his "ivory-tower intellectual elite" Advisors, "Hey, go pick me up one of those Koran thingys. I want to take a look at it."
Instead, he visits mosques and calls Islam "peace."
