White House, FBI race to pursue leads, disrupt possible summer jihad attack

An update on this story. "White House, FBI Agents Race to Disrupt 'Summer of '07' Threat," by Brian Ross, Richard Esposito, and Chris Isham for ABC News' The Blotter:

Senior law enforcement officials said today that the growing signs of a "Summer of '07" terror attack on the U.S. have led the FBI to dispatch dozens of agents to track down new leads across the country.
The threat has also led the White House to begin a weekly meeting of senior law enforcement and intelligence officials.
The group met last Friday and will meet tomorrow in the White House Situation Room at 1 p.m., according to the officials.
The White House has described the meeting as "not urgent" and "regular," but law enforcement officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com the new weekly sessions, to be held every Thursday, were designed specifically to counter the summer threat.
"The Thursday meetings will be regular, but the first one is tomorrow," said one official.
Dozens of FBI agents have been given a two-week deadline to run down more than 700 leads on an FBI "worry list," developed in the wake of the failed attacks in London and Glasgow. The list includes some 100 specific leads in the New York area, senior law enforcement officials also told ABCNews.com.
Although the White House says there is no credible, imminent threat to the United States, the origin of the intelligence that a small group of al Qaeda terrorists was headed to the United States came from a credible intelligence source, who in the past has been reliable, officials said.
The source of the intelligence specified the small cell was traveling from Pakistan.
The new threat comes as FBI agents were already trying to sort through a mountain of e-mails, jihadist message board postings, telephone intercepts and human source intelligence, in an effort to pluck an intelligence gem from the background of "chatter" louder than has been heard in any recent summer season.
There is so much terrorist "noise" that some agents and officers have already dubbed June and July a "summer of chatter."
Agents also have been running down financial leads and telephone records that could have linked several members of the recent failed London and Glasgow, Scotland incendiary bomb plots to North America.

Hopefully every Pakistani has been profiled to the highest degree regardless of the howls and intimidation by the enablers. As they walk upon US soil every inch of clothing and bags under the micro eye. If they complain, tell them they have no one to blame but their co-religionists. The projected murderers are more likely to be someone not on "the list" but hiding under the radar. If medical doctors are killers for Allah, no Muslim should be regarded without suspicion.

Nancy Pelosi and Hitlery will try to disconnect all the instruments used to detect said killers, joining hands with CAIR, enabling execution of Americans en mass and then appearing together proclaiming Islam as The Religion of Peace. This will release Americans from their private lives.
Heroes will emerge and the decadent imposters that have bought our government will be overthrown.

How can we fight a war when most do not know that there is a war or who we are really fighting? It is frustrating when college graduates in my own family make remarks about "stereotyping", when islamists are discussed. Most truck drivers I have spoken to are smarter than that. I fully admit to being repetitious...it has to get worse before it can get better. I wish this were not true, since my wife is flight crew, but it is true and there is nothing that can be done. Lets get down and finish it.

Looks like 9/11 has been forgotten, and too many in power are on the Sowdis' payroll.

Never mind Olmert in Israel: he needs to be taken out by mossad as he has just authorised muslim diggings at Al Aksa so that these heathens can destroy more biblical evidence.

(Thankfully they have found some OT tablets:

No,,it's not just Olmert. We are governed by quisling lemmings.

It's getting truly ugly.

It's reassuring to know that the Whitehouse is holding non-urgent weekly meetings on the matter and the FBI has dispatched several dozen suits to investigate leads. Excellent.

You see, the situation is simply just a matter of police work, 'ol boy, catch those ruffians and make an example out of them. Anyone who tries mass murder on American soil will be quickly detained, perhaps even arrested. Should the attack be carried out, by gawd, we have the courts to deal with that.

America's "Global War on Terror"..
I remember Bush saying "You are with us or with the terrorists" and "We will deny Al-Qaeda safe haven"

Seems to me like they have been able to recoup all of their losses, and have a BETTER safe haven in Pakistan than they had in Afghanistan.

Iraq is the reason for this IMO, we needed to take care of Iraq quickly and move on, instead we try to civilize that which can not be civil. Iraq is not only a debacle, but is is a debacle that has caused enormous damage to our credibility.

Islamic Nutjobs only react to Strength and Brutality. We need to eliminate the heart strings, that would remove the best weapon Islam has against us. We value life, Islam values death.
We are a civilized nation and conduct our operations with regard to innocent civilians, Islamic believers regard innocents as martyrs for their cause, a necessary strategy in order to have an impact on our policies.

You really want to stop this terrorism and loss of innocent life because of religious beliefs? Do this:
Every suicide bomber, or plotter or terrorist group member has family.
Make their family the target. They kill innocents, we clean out the gene pool.
Jihadi's have Iran and Saudi Arabia picking up the bill for houses that get demolished by Israel, they can't replace a Father, Mother, Brother or sister. Recruitment will be a little more difficult if they know their family dies because of their actions.

"Recruitment will be a little more difficult if they know their family dies because of their actions."

That's a little brutal there Robert. We become no better than them. The family may not even subscribe to the jihadi ideology or Is_lame_ic superiority themselves. I am no fan of being weak, but that's a little much. Effective as it may be, we are a fair and just society. That does not have to be an achilles heel. It is a strength. There are other ways that are as detrimental to our enemies.

"White House, FBI Agents Race to Disrupt 'Summer of '07' Threat"

Oh please, I'm going to barf. Bluhahhh&*#$#. There. Done.

The whitehouse, dhs, fbi, jttf, and all the other tla agencies have done nothing but appease, meet and great with, recruit from, "outreach" to, coddle, and have iftar dinners with jihadis bent on our destruction.

Without them, the problem would take care of itself in Grand American Fashion.

Were the above agencies even slightly interested in doing what they are paid tens of billions for, EVERYONE would know it.

They aren't and everyone knows it. More innocent Americans will die whereupon bush al-saud and his army of federal jihadi enablers will tell us "it is a religion of peace" and "there's nothing to indicate [muslim] terrorism [again]" once again.

Get the hell out of my country. LEAVE. Go away. Go to your masters in saudi arabia.

The American People are more than ready to replace you with Patriots, take care of the problem, and return to a normal life.

When the next terrorist attack hits it will be interesting to see how the perpetrators got here. Snuck across the unprotected southern border perhaps? Came in on a foreign student visa?

Interesting to see the Bush administration suddenly in a panic when they have taken zero steps to stop jihadis coming here under any number of easily accessible routes.

And now they are dispatching “dozens” of agents to chase down 100 threats in the New York area alone. And given them a 2-week deadline to boot! Shades of Great Britian, where the number of growing threats is rapidly outstripping the manpower that can possibly be dovoted to tracking all those threats down.

If something happens, the Bush Adminstration will be entirely responsible. They’ve had 6 long years to put their money where their mouth is with that old tired line, “We’re fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here” while standing back and doing absolutely nothing to secure our borders or to prevent more Muslims from coming here.

Obviously, as any sane person realizes, the risk of a terrorist attack grows in direct proportion (and correlation) with the number of Muslims residing in any western country, because to use a cliché which needs to become MORE of a cliché – “The terrorists swim in the moderate Muslim sea”.

So if Bush is serious about diminishing the terrorist threat, there is only ONE logical solution – secure our borders and STOP Muslim immigration into the US – for ANY reason.

If he doesn’t take that obvious step, then I will be forced to conclude that he is as lax as he is precisely because he actually WANTS us to live in a police state. I’m not usually one for conspiracy theories, but if one truly wanted to nip the problem in the bud, one would secure the borders and stop all Muslim immigration to the west and then start monitoring the ones who are here, with already limited resources, in order to diminish an already existing threat. But if what we see is a pattern of continuing to admit Muslims (combined with a failure to secure the southern border where they can obviously come across) COMBINED with grabbing more executive powers in case of some emergency, combined with a further cracking down on civil liberties of one’s own citizens, when the obvious solution to the problem which could avoid that sort of draconian outcome, is staring one in the face, then really, one has to at least take a moment to wonder whether there might not be some more nefarious reasons for such ostensible stupidity.

Lest there be any mistake about what I mean, I am not endorsing the usual ACLU position on civil liberties. I might give them some credence if they showed any evidence of wanting to secure our borders and stop Muslim immigration into the country. Quite obviously, they are in favor of nothing of the sort. But if our borders were secure and no Muslims could come here and we had a vigorous program of monitoring Muslims who were already here, then the REST of us would not have to live with any significant threat to OUR civil liberties. End of story.

I've noticed that here in my little Brooklyn neighborhood near al farooq mosque, many yemenis are returning to the homeland. In the past 2 weeks 3 store-owners/managers that I know of. Young pre-teens running the shops with mexican men helping. I guess 3 in 2 weeks is not a lot but struck me as odd. On top of that my landlord and second wife left for there as well. Just found that out yesterday.

One would have thought that since 9/11, the FBI et al would have been running down leads on their "worry list", but instead it's Summer '07. Again, the FBI et al continue to react and not proact against our enemy. Why are any of these muslims still being allowed into this country? Doing jobs Americans won't do? like sleeper cells?

This is not CSI or some crime scene. It is a WAR for the survival of the US and the West, even if most do not realize it. Oh, I take that back -Chertoff has a "gut feeling" about this summer. I wonder if Mueller (FBI) has a gut feeling? Howabout the head of DNI? Gut feelings anyone?

Posted by: HOV Dummy [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 11, 2007 9:33 PM

Caroline= right on the mark.

The Bushwacker, like most of the political ilk in Washington, have spent a lifetime securing their personal fortunes through political office and this is the food of their thought, not what must be done to secure the country. England is a perfect example of an older lingering of the Islamic disease. The dhimmi tradition of securing ones political office first has brought them leadership that has the spine of a jellyfish. More laws are passed to enable the cancer to spread than to cut it out. Those with the proper solutions like the BNP are labled bigoted, racist organisations. Those who speak out in the US Congress, like Virgil Goode, offering a logical solution to the problem as you have presented are banished or dismissed as racists.

Unfortunately, Americans being pulled out of debris caused by Islamists and placed in body bags seems the only thing that will lead to a political solution in dealing with the enemies that have seeped into the borders of America. It is sad that i have to say this.

“Dozens of FBI agents have been given a two-week deadline.”

Note this says dozens, not hundreds. How many dozens of agents? 2? 5? 10? Let’s say 10. 120 agents. 700 leads. That’s approximately 5-6 leads per agent. Two weeks. This assumes a resolution of one lead every two days for every agent. Am I the only one groaning with disappointment?

Way too little and way too late in my opinion.

Maybe they are leaving because they know something is about to happen. Perhaps, the Al Qaeda threat of "A United States Hiroshima".

I knew someone who had a small business in Birmingham, UK. Before 911, a paper was put through their letter box that suggested something big was about to happen. The letter was meant for an Islamic audience. Unfortunately, they didn't keep the letter but tossed it out. Anyway, they are convinced that this material was most likely predicting an attack on the US.

I wonder if any of this kind of stuff has been recently distributed or preached in their mosques. Let's hope the FBI are TRULY on to some legitimate leads.

What's a CO?

Posted by: Caroline [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 11, 2007 10:34 PM

In a small town library in the midwest, the phone lines were always busy when people called in.

It was very unusual because at this small library with very few patrons, the phone lines are never jammed.

ATT was called in and reported that there were many (in the hundreds) recent calles to Pakistan, Egypt, India, S.E. Asia, and a few African countries.

Next, the FBI was called in because the phone calls originated from this library but nobody from the library knew anything about these calls.

Turns out the "someone" had hacked into the library phone system via the voice mail which gave access to all the lines and shut everyone else out.

You won't hear about this one in the news but what everyone suspects at this library was more or less confirmed by the FBI investigation.

Moral of story, if your organization's phones are acting wierd, i.e. all trunks lines are "busy" and you have unusual phone calls, have the Feds check into it.

Make sure that all your voice mail passwords have at least six-digits and that there are NO unassigned or unused voice mail addresses.

Somethings up alright, big time.

Stock up on stores and ammo just in case.

It ain't rocket science. Everything the jihadists do is calculated to advance the cause of islam. They must simply be assured, in a credible way, that any attack will be responded to with a significant setback for the cult of mahomet (e.g., destruction of the kabah). They might not believe it at first, but with the right leadership, it could happen. If it were me, I would assure them than any nuclear attack, anywhere, would result in every last remnant their filthy cult being wiped off the planet, completely and permanently.

Everything about this scenario stinks to high heaven. They know something is up and are leaking tidbits, just enough to cover their asses and make it appear that they are doing something.

What do a group of high-level government officials discuss in meetings when everything is speculative, nothing is specific, and the head of HLS is feeling intuitive? Gut feelings don't just materialize out of thin air, they happen when certain signals and information converge and connect. They're probably brainstorming to decide the safest place to hide until after the threat is carried out or deemed a false alarm.

I thought maybe Chertoff was telling us that he is psychic but his ESP was picking up fuzzy messages. I would be feeling better already if he had not clarified his "gut feeling", describing it in ambiguous, bureaucratic mumbo-jumbo as the natural reaction to "typical summertime al-Qaeda threats" and events in other parts of the world. I think I would drop dead if that man uttered a coherent, significant, substantive comment related to his department and position.

We're planning to attend a niece's wedding in D.C. in two weeks. I would feel much safer if it was in Wyoming or Montana.

They should be THAT STOOPID.. any attack on American Soil between NOW and the ELECTION will most CERTAINLY mean.. GIULIANI TIME!!

NATIONWIDE!!

If they are as savvy as everyone says they are they will wait until AFTER the Presidential Election..

This could very well be a bit of well-placed Republican Disinformation.. but if it is.. I am glad.. it would mean they KNOW we need RUDY to take care of business for the next four to eight years.

It's either RUDY or Hitlery, that much is clear.

We can all hold our breath collectively and hope that Hitlery will turn into a latter-day Maggie Thatcher once she is elected.. but I'd rather go with the REAL THING instead!

Complain all you want about Rudy for whatever his faults may be.. real or imagined..

.. this is what it boils down to..

RUDY or Hitlery..

On the one hand.. if Hitlery does get elected President.. she will have the "moral authority" vis-a-vis the Left to do what MUST BE DONE AFTER a DeVASTATING ATTACK..

And she may well do what we MUST DO!

However.. RUDY is WAY MORE LIKELY to HEAD OFF any threat in ADVANCE.. meaning BEFORE they can do actual damage here AT HOME!

So.. that's the choice we have.. PRE-EMPTION.. or a Tough Broad's Reaction AFTER a devastating hit.

I am in fact way more comfortable to think that Hitlery will respond in kind to a terrorist attack upon us than for example Obama would...

BUT.. having RUDY at the helm would be a GUARANTEE to the ENEMY that RETRIBUTION will be CERTAIN and INEVITABLE should the enemy *dare* to visit a devastating attack upon the American Homeland.

So while I think that Hitlery would be more likely that one Barack HUSSEIN Obama to launch a devastating counter-strike in the event of a major strike against Our Homeland.. I am certain thatr our enemy KNOW that one RUDOLPH GIULIANI will most CERTAINLY meet any aggression against our Homeland with OVERWHELMING and UNEQUIVOCAL FORCE!

Let us make sure that our enemy KNOWS the very same thing they KNOW!!

It is frustrating when college graduates in my own family make remarks about "stereotyping", when islamists are discussed.

___________

Welcome to higher education in America. Ask them if they have ever read the Qur'an? I'm guessing the answer would be "no." They are most likely merely responding with what they are being taught by the pundits and professors.

Posted by: Monkeywho [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 12, 2007 1:49 AM

Pismopal - re your comment on college graduates calling criticism of Islam "stereotyping" - that parallels a discussion in Walid Phares book "The War of Ideas".

Roughly summarizing Phares, Saudi Wahabbi brainwashing has been inculcated into American college graduates in the social sciences over the last 30 or so years with a deliberate Wahabbi plan to neuter them with false information on Islamic Jihad and the Middle East. This has occurred in university Middle East studies, history, socio-economics, international relations, etc., and from this harvest of students, the State, Defense and various security agencies have been getting a continuous supply of Wahabbi-brainwashed recruits. The Wahabbi brainwashing moreover meshes well with the common university liberal dogmas of multiculturalism and relativism.

So do not be surprised at what comes out of the mouths of babes fresh out of college, or for that matter out of the mouths of people in senior jobs at State and Defense and Homeland Security. We can see this with State's benign disposition towards Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Muslim Brotherhood, and their harsh demands on Israel.

The Saudis have planted their Trojan Horses well throughout the country. The question now is when will they disgorge their contents, and who will resist them? The FBI? The White House Thursday meetings?

If Urban II, Charles Martel, or Thomas Jefferson had the same technological advantage we now possess over the mahometan cultists back in 1099, 1683, or the early 19th century, there would now be no need for JW/DW. The savages have not evolved. We have. It doesn't have to be this way.

Re. Islamic propaganda. We were warned, twenty years ago.

I quote two passages from Jacques Ellul's preface to Bat Ye'or's "The Dhimmi", first published in French in 1983 and in English in 1985/86.

"And really we are witnessing a vast operation of Islamic propaganda, building of mosques everywhere (even in the USSR), publishing of literature and Arab culture, rediscovery of a history: Islam now glorifies itself that it has been the cradle of all civilisations while Europe was darkened by barbarism and the East was endlessly torn apart. Islam, origin of all the sciences and arts, this is the discourse which we are always hearing. This is probably felt less in the United States than in France (however we must recall the Black Muslims). But if I make my judgement on the basis of the French situation, it is because it seems wholly typical."

And again: "Now that Islam has a national, military, and economic power [which Ellul rightly identifies as arising from oil money] it will try to extend itself, on the level of religion, to all the world. And the British Commonwealth and the United States are in their sights, too." Remember: this was written BEFORE the First Gulf War, and 18 years prior to September 11 2001, 20 years before the London bombings of July 2005.

I really don't understand what people in your government are doing, but seems like they gave all freedoms to the terrorists and are waiting for their moves... Sounds very stupid to give your enemy free shot when you don't have to. But I can promise to you (and them) one thing - if they nuke the US, jihadi terrorists in Balkans are done.

"Yes, Bush hasn't been much. But does anyone seriously think Algore or Kerry would have been better?"

Nobody expected Gore or Kerry to have been any better that's why they were not elected, well Kerry anyways.

We do not expect the left to defend the US citizens, we know exactly what to expect from the left. That said, we did not expect this from the right, specifically from Al Bush ibn Bush.

It is simply a betrayal to the highest degree....we expect this behavior from the left, we do not expect this behavior from the right.

No specific edict or communique towards us from Bin Laden or Zawahiri has been released lately. Those released were more focused on Europe. If something big is about to happen here, a video will be released directed specifically towards the US like July of 2001, by Bin Laden. Although I'm starting to feel he has died because he no longer releases any tapes at all.

Other than that, I have no faith in Chertoff whatsoever. He is completely wrong for the importance of that job. If we are hit, the people will have to take matters into their own hands because this Administration will do very little, and expect less from the Liberals.

"Recruitment will be a little more difficult if they know their family dies because of their actions."

That's horrible. It won't work, because they believe their family would go to paradise. More importantly, it wouldn't work because it would turn us into the barbarians they are, and eat away at the things that give us the potential to be stronger - much stronger - than they are.

Rule of law, getting things out into the open with free speech, protection of individual rights, treating individuals as the primary social unit and not tribes, and so on.

We lose if we go down that road, just like we lose if we go down the PC lying "religion of peace" soundbite road.

Right makes might. Attacking family members isn't any more right than PC lying.

The solution actually includes things more like this:

1. People need to stop being racists, and to instead distinguish between ideology on the one hand, and and skin color on the other. This is what is making many, especially on the left but also in the neocon right, dangerously complicit in jihad. They're letting Muslims off the hook in the public discourse for things they'd never, ever, let, say, Evangelicals off the hook for, if they were doing them.

2. Incitement to violence should, rightfully, be a crime. We should, legally go after those who preach it, whether under the auspices of religion or not, with very stiff prison sentences.

3. Real border security. Also, international phone call information counts like packages and people crossing the borders.

4. Continue to track financial networks, and this sort of thing. It can be checked by structures of judicial review, to ensure that these government powers exist in a framework that can't be used for abuse in the future. That would be in line with the Constitution, and effective as preserving what it is meant to preserve, what its whole purpose is to begin with - human life and liberty.

5. Treat energy policy as a national security issue. Build nuclear power plants (but gaurd them well, of course). Use and push biodiesal. Deal with the root problems in our monetary system that cause us to depend on OPEC's use of the dollar on oil currency to keep it afloat. Quit oil company subsidies. And so on, and so on.

This is theoretically doable without resorting to barbarism, as you suggested. The main problem, IMO, is PC lies and brainwashing. That's causing large portions of the voting public to imagine that Islam is a religon of peace that wouldn't have ever messed with us if only we hadn't done something or other. They're mostly not willing to correct this delusion, sadly. Maybe in time, as they see more.

Only the truth will keep us free...

"So if Bush is serious about diminishing the terrorist threat, there is only ONE logical solution – secure our borders and STOP Muslim immigration into the US – for ANY reason."

It wouldn't even have to target a specific religion. Provided it was coupled with secure borders, it could involve a very strict cultural and ideological test that doesn't explicitly finger a religion. Even that, we're not doing.

More likely thing to happen is restricting immigration on a nation-by-nation basis, to prevent naming Islam or its ideology as what to keep out. That sucks, because then the Christians and other religious minorities in those areas have a hard time escaping here. And many of them would be good potential citizens.

"If he doesn’t take that obvious step, then I will be forced to conclude that he is as lax as he is precisely because he actually WANTS us to live in a police state."

Heck, even Peggy Noonan has reported that White House insiders claim you have to drink the koolaid to work there.

The powers that he has centralized in the execuitive branch in his term massive. MASSIVE. We'll all notice this when someone like Hillary gets in. The left won't protest it then, not a bit.

Just wait until those powers are used against Constitutionally-loyal citizens with with rifle collections the BATF deems too large, instead of against Jihadi money laundering operations.

May we live in interesting times.

Any suicide bomber does not get his parts returned to be buried in a muslim way. Buried with pigs blood instead.

That would stop it.

Let it be known that is what will happen.

The real problem is that it doesn't matter if there is never another attack. The muslim immigration will eventually turn the west into muslim countries with all the bad that goes with that for the non-muslims. The second class discrimination, no freedom, no free speech. Everything that has been fought for will be lost.

Countries need to stop muslim immigration completely. There is NO LAW against doing that.
