Two suspected jihadists arrested in Spain

"Satut and Dabbas are suspected of collaborating with a terrorist group, document forgery and money laundering ... The men allegedly channeled funds provided by members or sympathizers of Islamic terrorist organizations, both in Spain and abroad."

"Spain swoops on 2 terror suspects," from CNN:

MADRID, Spain (CNN) -- Spanish police have arrested two Syrian-born men in Madrid for collaboration with an Islamic terrorist group, including one who was acquitted two years ago at a major trial of al Qaeda suspects in Spain, the country's Interior Ministry says.
The man who is now in custody a second time was identified as Bassam Dalati Satut, 48.
Satut was acquitted in 2005 of belonging to a terrorist group at a trial in which 18 of the 24 defendants were convicted of Islamic terrorist activities, court records show.
Spain's Supreme Court in 2006 overturned three of the lower court's convictions from that sentence, leaving 15 convicted, in what was one of Europe's largest trials to date involving operatives allegedly linked to al Qaeda.
In the latest operation, Satut and the other suspect, Samer Dabbas, 30 -- both born in Aleppo, Syria -- were arrested Tuesday, but the Interior Ministry did not announce their arrests until Wednesday.
Satut is suspected of running terrorist-related business and financial affairs, allegedly replacing another Syrian-born man who earlier held that post and was a co-defendant of Satut's in the 2005 terrorism trial, according to the Interior Ministry statement and court records seen by CNN.
That man, Mohamed Ghaleb Kalaje Zouaydi, was convicted in the 2005 trial and is serving a nine-year sentence for membership in a terrorist group, court records show.
Satut and Dabbas are suspected of collaborating with a terrorist group, document forgery and money laundering, the ministry statement said.
The men allegedly channeled funds provided by members or sympathizers of Islamic terrorist organizations, both in Spain and abroad. Much of this money was laundered by investing it in housing construction and then obtaining profits considered to be legitimate money, which was then sent outside of Spain, the statement said.
In a search at the homes of the two suspects, police found 120,000 euros ($156,000) in cash in a safe that was hidden in a kitchen, various news media clippings related to Islamic terrorism, computer materials and cell phones, the statement said.

Just came across a definition of "moral pessimists" (by Nietzsche) that mirrors Islam's ideology and methodology uncannily-

"This is the crux of the moral pessimists: if they really want to promote their neighbor's redemption, then they would have to resolve theselves to spoiling existence for him, and thus being his misfortune; out of pity, they would have to become evil."

Islam: moral pessimism eternalized.

At the rate spain is going, I'm surprised they didn't "accommodate" the terrorists by calling their land andalusia.

They seriously NEED to start EXPELLING such folks! I don't take a few years in jail very seriously.. they're gonna have visitors and toilets facing whatever direction they want them to face.. they'll have korans and 'halal' meals.. all at the expense of the Spanish taxpayers.

And the free publicity is priceless..

Laundered the money through 'construction', hmm sounds like construction is the profession of choice for OBL cronies who want to launder terrorist funds.

But there shouldnt be any trouble in Spain after their abject surrender to the Muslims in their last election and the withdrawal of Spanish troops they should be safe. Isn't that what all the PC,'yuman rites' spouting, leftwing, Guardianista Moonbats have been telling us?

Basic rule when dealing with terrorists...
"give the mouse a crumb, he's gonna want the cookie
give the mouse a cookie, he'll want a glass of milk
give the mouse the milk..."
you get the idea...

This is a lesson the dhimmicrats and Move on .org types need to implant into their narrow minded brains...Spain, France, Germany, and others have witnessed terror attacks in their countries and have made concessions to the Muslims only to see the onward march of violent Islam continue...The Muslims continue to plot the demise of the non Muslims....

Spain has given in to Muslims more than once, In Iraq, it took only one attack and the threat "Leave Iraq now or we will continue to attack"; it did not take long for Spain to withdraw...On more than one occassion has Spain released terrorists, fearing reprisal more than the protection of its citizens...

There have been Islamic terror cells located in Spain, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Denmark, the United States, and others....

The light bulb should be shining brightly over the politicians heads...at some point in time the politicians should be able to see the dots being connected.....It is time the world began banning Muslim Immigration, it is time the world began profiling, it is time the world began convicting those caught in the terror rings and really imposing long prison sentences, it it time the world began deport Muslims upon conviction of any crime and to send their families home with them, it is time the major powers of the world united and to recommit to the war on terror...It is time for the major powers of the world to commit troops to combat the Muslims terrorists groups where ever they want to show their faces...failure to do so will result in their grandchildren becoming 7th century retards....

Every time the real world falters, the Islamic clerics laugh...and the real world falters often...

It is time for drastic and immediate changes in attitudes for the real world...The limp wristed politicians should seek backbone treatment, the narrow minded peaceniks should open their eyes to the real terrorists and they should also realize that peace as they envision it is not possible without sacrifice...The US and the UK apparently are standouts among all the worlds countries as ,at least, trying to combat the terrorists in a meaningful manner...

Death is what the terrorist thrive upon, and it is death that should be dealt to them, violently and quickly without remorse...

The whinning crybabies who always whine about the "civilians are being killed" should stop and think, "just why are civilians being killed and are some of the civilians killed really civilians". It is unfortunate that innocent civilians are killed but it it the terrorists who cause the violence to appear in their neighborhoods not by the forces combating the terrorists...but like the limp wristed dhimmicrats and the move on .org types the whinning crybabies seem unflappable and unmoveable....

the world needs to get a grip on reality and begin to physically fight the terrorists, treaties, apologies, concessions, and failure to fight them will not work...

The shortest way to end the terrorism is to physically and violently engage the terrorists now...

ban muslim immigration.

dhimmis need to see that, yes...
the moveon.org scum, however, are outright collaborators, so no sense trying to talk sense into them-they're part of the problem.

Hey exsgt, why don't you run for office ? I'd vote for you ! Good post.

This case just goes to show, if these bastards get away with it once, if they are acquitted, they just go right back to planning and enabling violent jihad.

Posted by: exsgtbrown - ban muslim immigration.

Some good has already come out of our intervention in Iraq and Afghanistan.

1. As the Moslem population is required to support their fellow Moslems, the intervention has meant that "Western" Moslems have had to engage in Jihad activities against the West. The LLL has argued that such terror acts are because of Iraq. It is "Iraq" they say. Yes indeed. It is Iraq or Afghanistan, or could be any other Moslem country. What is more important is that Western Moslems have shown that when push comes to shove, their allegiance is with Islam and the Ummah, rather then to the country they are nominally citizens of.

2. If our intervention in Iraq is a failure, it will show, that despite our best intentions, much loss of life and huge amounts of treasure, Moslims cannot become liberal democrats. Thus the only option is to make our shores safe by banning Moslim immigration as a first step, followed by a steady and humane repatriation/deportation of Moslems.

Don't be so quick to dismiss all Spaniards as cowering before Islam. I've spoken to more than my share, and there's almost universal outrage with the concessions Zapatero has been making to terror. Things are changing--more rapidly than you'd think.

...I remember the Spaniard conquered a South American nation of 2,000,000 with an armed force of 200 conquestadors and a couple thousand Indian volunteers....

Spain has shown mettle in the past...it could happen again...

exsgtbrown-

The Conquistadors had a little unexpected ally called the-unexposed-to-European/Asian-diseases Native American immune system.

Smallpox was the true weapon on the conquest, as it accidentally annihilated great percentages of the populations of South and North America.

It was soon looked upon as the judgnment of God upon the pagans.

The neo-Spaniards won't have such a bio-ally- this time- against an already-immunized Islam imperialists.

(I'll bet the Spaniards even paid for many of the Ummah's shots.)

Please, let us bury that old saw "Smallpox was the true weapon on the conquest". Nowhere in eyewitness accounts do the Christian Conquistadors mention that they won the conquest because all the Mexica (Aztec) warriors went to bed ill. As a matter of fact there were certainly plenty of native peoples assisting with the construction of the nascent empire of "Nueva Espana" after the conquest.

Keys to the Christian Conquest of the Mexica included:

1. Superior weapons, tactics and strategies culled from over 500 years of fighting the Infidel/Moor in Spain.

2. Assistance from tens of thousands of members of Central American tribes who begged Cortes to help relieve them from the extreme taxation of the ruling Mexica (Aztecs).

3. The Mexica practice of fighting only to procure living captives to be sent to their temples and sacrificed to their gods.

4. The Conquistadors' invincible faith in God and their right to both defend and propagate the "Holy Faith" which was confirmed by Queen Isabel's success in the Conquest of Granada.

Spain will be fine. I suspect there are certain...safeguards...at high levels that would be implemented should a serious danger of jihadist advance arise.

Smallpox was just one of many Old World diseases that the Europeans, and shortly after, Africans, brought to the Americas -- diseases that were unknown in the New World. Whooping cough, measles, chicken pox were others. These diseases were endemic in the Old World, virtually everyone caught them as children, and most (altho far from all) survived them. The Spaniards were completely non-plussed, they had never seen adults suffering from smallpox. It hit the American Indians with the same ferocity that the bubonic plague hit the Europeans in the 1350's, killing about 1/3 of the population, a fairly typical figure for the death toll from a new epidemic striking an unexposed population. Indeed, when smallpox first hit Europe, in the late 2nd c. AD, it cause similar death tolls there.
What survivors were left from the smallpox then had to suffer the other diseases, which also caused massive numbers of deaths. It's estimated that the population of Mexico and Central America in 1500 was about 20 million. In the 1600 census by the Spanish, it was down to not much more than 3 million.
In addition there were the tropical fever diseases: malaria and yellow fever, which were unknown in the Americas before the Conquest. The first explorers of the Caribbean remarked on how healthful the area was, unlike the tropics of the Old World. But American mosquitoes could carry these diseases as easily as the African ones did, and once there were sufficient numbers of Africans (and Europeans who had been exposed to these fevers in voyages to Africa) in the American tropics, the fevers took hold there too, to the extent that the Caribbean became a notorious fever zone. Note the problems faced in building the Panama Canal.
Also, as another poster noted, many Indian tribes welcomed the Spanish as allies and rose in rebellion against their hated imperial masters, the Aztecs or Incas.
The superior military technology and organization of the Spaniards also helped them. But it was epidemic disease that obliterated the native population and left a nearly empty continent for the Europeans to occupy.
