This is a race issue, or a class issue, says the mainstream media. Nothing to do with jihad. Yet when the Sudanese government needed help, they called...Al-Qaeda.
By Wasil Ali for the Sudan Tribune (thanks to Jeffrey Imm):
July 29, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese government decided to lift restrictions on Al-Qaeda members in the country in return for their help in fighting peacekeepers in Darfur. The classified document sent to Sudan Tribune by a group named Kosh Liberation Movement (KLM) was dated April 27, 2004 and signed by senior members of Sudan’s presidency, ruling National Congress Party (NCP) and the army.
One of the signatories was Sudan’s presidential adviser Majzoub al-Khalifa who was killed in a car accident last month signing on behalf of the NCP.
The authenticity of the document could not be independently verified.
Osama bin Laden lived in Sudan for several years in the early 1990s.
The document requests all government agencies to allow “foreign Jihadis who came to Sudan with Osama Bin Laden in 1994 to resume their political activities in Sudan given the circumstances surrounding foreign intervention in Darfur to support armed forces and the people of Sudan to fight Zionist enemies”.
The decision outlines certain steps to be taken to allow Al-Qaeda to operate in Sudan such as unfreezing their bank accounts and returning all properties confiscated in 1996.
A copy of the order was sent to President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir, Head of Security Services and a representative of Al-Qaeda in Sudan.
Last year Al-Qaeda’s second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahri called on Muslims in a video released on Friday to launch a holy war against proposed U.N. peacekeepers in Sudan’s Darfur region.
[...]
The Darfur conflict began in 2003 when an ethnic minority rose up against the Arab-dominated government in Khartoum, which then enlisted the Janjaweed militia group to help crush the rebellion.

"Jihad" is a term that many think cannot possibly apply to the situation in Darfur. After all, are not the black Africans in Darfur Muslims? Can a Jihad be waged by Arab Muslims against non-Arab Muslims?
Yes. For whatever its universalist pretensions, Islam arose in response to a felt need: the need of Arabs who were conquering non-Arab populations, wealthier, more advanced, more settled, and to present them with a belief-system that would be recognizable to them (since Islam appropriates, even as it distorts, the main figures and stories of both Judaism and Christianity, it can sound deceptively familar) so as not to be completely alien at first glance. This belief-system, Islam, not only justified past conquests but justified future ones.
And within the Islamic worldview, there is not only a division between Believer and Infidel, and a state of permanent war to exist between them. There is also a hierarchy within Islam, for the Arabs, who first received the revelation, and in their language, are the "best of peoples" and all Muslims, when they prostrate themselves meccatropically, when they go on hajj to Arabia, when they take as their guide in everything a seventh-century Arab, when they take on Arab names and often false Arab lineages, they demonstrate that Islam is a vehicle of Arab supremacism and imperialism.
That Arab supremacism, of which Islam has always been a vehicle, can be observed at work in Darfur today. The contempt the Arabs feel for non-Arabs, and especially for blacks (a contempt that is obvious and palpable to all who live in Arab Muslim socities), the belief that they cannot possibly be full-fledged Muslims, and certainly not Muslims that Arabs, by right, can claim to be, suggest that the word "Jihad" can be extended to include all warfare by Arab Muslims against those non-Arab Muslims whom they believe cannot be fully orthodox Muslims, but are in a sense, because of their lack of fanaticism, or lack of full knowledge of Islam, makes them less than Muslims, almost -- in fact -- Infidels.

While that may indeed be the attitude of Arabs, how much do North African Blacks - be it in Darfur, be it the Barbers or others in West African countries like Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso (from where I get so many 419 scam e-mails), Ghana, Ivory Coast et al - consider themselves Muslims? While they may recognize the disdain the Arabs have for them, do they have the sense to recognize Islam as a vehicle for Arab supremacy?
Right now, the cause of intervening in the Sudan for the Darfar non-Arab Blacks is a weak one if it ultimately turns out that they are as devoted to Islam as the Arabs. Is there any evidence out there to show that those people are Muslims-In-Name-Only?

I have a friend who claims to have read the Koran 3 times and could find nothing indicating that Islam calls for death for those who leave Islam or for those who refuse to convert. I am NOT an expert (yet)concerning the book of lies, so can someone give me the ammo I need to convince this fellah that Islam is a threat to those that won't succumb? I know I've seen it before but...time is not my friend.
I would spend alot of time researching this and I'm busy as hell just trying to pay bills and such. I would appreciate help from someone better acquainted with the relevant text. Thanks in advance.

Send George Clooney and Jihad Jane Fonda to fix the Darfur situation. They'll straighten it out in no time. It's just a matter of explaining to the Sudanese government that we just need some understanding. A little kumbya as it were.
Just give peace a chance.

(5) Narrated Ikrima: Ali burnt some people and this news reached Ibn 'Abbas, who said, "Had I been in his place I would not have burnt them, as the Prophet said, 'Don't punish (anybody) with Allah's Punishment.' No doubt, I would have killed them, for the Prophet said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.' " (Book #52, Hadith #260)

The Big Book of Jewish Conspiracies
What if it was all true? Every charge ever leveled against Jews, that is. The Big Book of Jewish Conspiracies is a humorous exploration of Jewish conspiracies through the history of western civilization, from the editors of HEEB Magazine. Among the cabals, schemes, and tricky business explored in these pages are: How blood libel began aftar an unfortunate baking accident resulted in the tastiest matzo ever, Why the Jews invented (and still run) Hollywood, how circumcision became a widely adopted 'health' procedure, the invention of psychoanalysis as a way to hypnotize wealthy and powerful gentiles, and the mother of all conspiracies: 9/11. The perfect book for the conspiracy buff!

A book I would highly recommend is Don Richardson's "Secrets of the Koran".
In future whenever anyone tells me that Islam is nothing to worry about, I am going to ask "Have you performed due diligence? Have you read Robert Spencer's books and Don Richardson's book? You have children/grandchildren and you owe it to them to do your research."
By the way, I have looked for a Glossary of Terms on JW. I understand what a few terms mean but not all of them. Would be great to have a Glossary on the sidebar to refer to.
PorkyPig - a proud Aussie and proud of my Government for getting tough with the Indian doctor - such a nice young man! I think not!
