South Carolina: Two Muslims apprehended with bombs and bomb-making materials, FBI says no known link to terrorism

bomb_kids.jpg

Maybe they were going to a fireworks show. An update on this story. "Details on Materials Found in Trunk Unclear," by Shantel Middleton for ABC News 4, with thanks to Ken:

Goose Creek - Two men are being held in the Berkeley County Detention Center after police find explosive making devices in their car. The quantity of explosive making materials in that vehicle is unclear. The FBI (website) reports that there is no known link to terrorism. The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office believes that among materials in the car's trunk were a bomb and bomb making materials that include chemicals, fuses, and igniters. The men 21-year-old Yousef Megahed and 24-year-old Ahmed Mohamed were pulled over Saturday evening during a routine traffic stop near Myers Road and Highway 176. Few details about the suspects are known at this time. They are believed to be students at a Florida college. They are of Middle Eastern descent and are not US citizens. Neither man has been charged, but charges are expected Monday. A press conference will be held in Berkeley County on Monday morning. Possession of unlawful explosives is among the potential charges. Officials are not at this time releasing any additional information. The Berkeley County Sheriff's office may confirm what exactly was found in that trunk during Monday's press conference. Stay tuned to ABC News 4 and www.abcnews4.com for details as they become available.

Yeah- right, no connection to terrorism. And I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

Such lovely happy smiling mugshots. What's up with that? Creepy.

I for one am pleased to see that the sensitivity training the FBI received from CAIR is finally bearing fruit.

It's just weird how those everyday laws impede the activities of supremacist muslim "students." How could we expect for them to follow our laws and not kill anyone?

Yousuf MEGAHED?! Dude, I want that for my name....MegaHead!
Isn't it nice that there have been no links to terrorism in all of the following cases:
The El Al Airport attack
The downing of TWA flight 800
The deliberate crash of the Egyptian Airlines by the pilot
The SUV Jihad in NC
The mall shooting in Utah
...I'm sorry, I lost count.
It's so easy to lose count when you're not keeping count.
Thanks, Fumbling, Bumbling Incompetents.

People - check out Yousef and Ahmed's smiling faces in their mugshots. They're just so amused!

You can e-mail the Charleston link above with your thoughts.

I said that obviously these two Mohammedans were Islamic Terrorists BY THEMSELVES, if indeed there's no "link" to a Terrorist organization. Hoo boy, I mean, COME ON!! CUT THE PC CRAP!

" The FBI (website) reports that there is no known link to terrorism. "

The FBI receives sensititvity training from CAIR.

So I guess unless these guys had an AL QAEDA tatoo blazened across their forehead we should just write them off as just another set of misunderstood yutes. I'll bet the statement comes right out of the FBI's "Public Relations Training Manual for Dhimmis".

The FBI needs a series of house calls from Dr. Spencer to explain the symptoms of SDS (sudden jihad syndrome) instead of Indoctrination to Dhimmitude from CAIR.

No known link to terrorism?

This IS terrorism. (Maybe that's what they mean.)

"Authorities" really need to disabuse themselves of the notion that somebody is only a terrorist if there is a definable direct connection to Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah or PIJ. This tunnel-vision will be the death of us.

Do you suppose that, if the kid next door sets off a firecracker at midnight, a sleeping Fed would wake up screaming, "No links to terrorism, here!! Nothing to see, folks!! Go on about your business, especially consuming!!

Is there **anyone** on this list who believes we will not be on our own when the Megaheds decide it's time for the sequel to 9/11?

Will we have to defend ourselves against our own "leaders," along with the local contingent of the R.O.P.?

Sorry, I woke up pessimistic, today. I'll be more of an optimist (or, less of a realist) after I get some caffeine in me.

I watched the news video account. My jaw nearly hit the floor-- After hearing that it is unknown what kind, size, type, or number of bombs were in the car, the commentator added that they were detonated (by the police, I guess) at around 3am.

Well, so much for preserving a chain of evidence. Now there isn't one.

Oh, I suppose it's not necessary to drag an actual bomb into court, for their arraignment, but still...

I can already hear CAIR crying out that it was a setup, that there were no explosives in the car, and that the police staged an explosion in order to frame these two wholesome college students.

But, I could be paranoid.

FBI report no link to terrorism but make a connection to possible case of the munchies.
FBI Case File: Ahmed and Yousef Go To White Castle (and get lost).

Another scenario that the FBI is looking into is that these two guys are stunt doubles for those two guys from the Sonic commercials.

Since they're not US citizens, I presume they will be deported at the end of their prison sentences. Or will they be part of the amnesty?

2 held in explosives scare; Islamic leader says men are college students on road trip
By Andy Paras (Contact)

GOOSE CREEK — Two men detained and expected to be charged for carrying explosives in the trunk of a car Saturday are not suspected of orchestrating a terrorist plot, authorities said Sunday.

Meanwhile, an Islamic community leader from Tampa, Fla., whose been in touch with the families of the two detained college students told The Post and Courier that the men are not troublemakers and that they a were simply on a weekend trip to North Carolina.

The ordeal began Saturday night when police seized at least one explosive device and computer equipment from a sedan during a routine traffic stop on U.S. Highway 176, officials said. Berkeley County sheriff’s Lt. Vince Lombard said the vehicle had been stopped for speeding and the men were being held pending a charge of unlawful possession of an explosive device.

Authorities destroyed the device early Sunday morning and booked the driver and the passenger, both of Middle Eastern descent. By then, the FBI turned the case over to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office to investigate.

Ahmed Bedier, executive director of the Tampa chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a civil rights organization for Muslims, said the men arrested are Youseff Megahed, 21, and Ahmed Mohamed, 24 - two University of South Florida students.

Family members told Bedier they think the materials were leftover fireworks Megahed kept in his trunk since July 4.

“Both of them are really naïve kids,” Bedier said.

He said Megahed is a permanent legal resident of the United States and Mohamed was the passenger. Mohamed's legal status was not known. Bedier said police will not tell them why they’re being held without charges.

“There’s a lot of unanswered questions,” Bedier said. “If they didn’t do anything wrong they need to be released.”

Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Butch Henerey said they expect to charge the driver and passenger today. The charge is a state offense, and officials said they didn’t expect a federal charge to be filed. However, a terrorism task force is reviewing the evidence, said FBI spokesman Richard Kolko.

“At this point, it is too early in the investigation to say there is any link to terrorism,” Kolko said.

Authorities declined to give any more details about the device or the men Sunday but said they expect to release more information during an 11:30 a.m. news conference.

Two men were pulled over at about 6 p.m. Saturday while driving a gray sedan on U.S. Highway 176, near Devon Pointe Apartments. Authorities closed the road for several hours as more than a dozen police cars, fire trucks and an ambulance surrounded the car.

A Charleston County Bomb Squad robot inspected the trunk of the car. A device was destroyed at the scene at about 4 a.m. The item made a loud bang similar to a firecracker when it was destroyed.

News that explosives were found Saturday shocked residents in and around Goose Creek, home to the Naval Weapons Station, which houses the U.S. Naval Consolidated Brig, a military prison where enemy combatants have been held.

I must say that something is amiss here. Can the local sheriff not identify "leftover fireworks"? Surely a person of normal intelligence could see that a few fireworks are not an indication of a terrorist plot. Perhaps Bedier and friends are injecting speculation to diffuse and deflect suspicion from the "naive" college boys.

In any case, I find the whole story odd. Why so hard to disclose a few facts? I await the news conference.

"The FBI (website) reports that there is no known link to terrorism."

Hold on, people. Saying there "is no known link to terrorism" is not the same thing as saying "the FBI have ruled out a link to terrorism".

I would assume - hope - there is an implied 'yet' at the end of the sentence.

This statement could be described as 'tight-lipped' because the FBI appear not to have a clue what these individuals were doing, and if they do have suspicions they are rightly keeping schtum for the time being.

The truth, one hopes. will emerge. Somehow I doubt they were planning a fireworks display, though.

LOL - that's right - after all they are here to do the jobs that most Americans do not want. They just neglected to say that the jobs are blowing up innocent people, and destroying our way of life.

Posted by: Bess [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 6, 2007 9:51 AM

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office believes that among materials in the car's trunk were a bomb and bomb making materials that include chemicals, fuses, and igniters.

Look, you got to put these things in the proper perspective. Suppose you were a tourist, say Russia for example, and you wanted to see the sights.

Wouldn't you rent a car, pack the trunk full of explosives, and head out on a road that goes to only one place such as a naval base that has nuclear subs?

Sure, everyone does it all the time.

So what's the big deal here?

The FBI may be right; how could this logically be connected to terrorism of all things?

Posted by: witness [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 6, 2007 10:05 AM

'Hold on, people. Saying there "is no known link to terrorism" is not the same thing as saying "the FBI have ruled out a link to terrorism".'

I agree Nonny, there's a very big difference there. If the FBI has actually ruled out terrorism, this may just be a class project or something...

Or maybe the reporter just misinterpreted the other statement about "no known link". But I don't see how they could rule it out this quickly unless the "bombs" really weren't bombs at all.

Do these islamists need a "al qaeda" business card? l would be more optimistic if the FBI look into these student's computers, mail..etc. and send them back to their cesspoolstan pronto.
Here's a hint for the FBI, islamist/koran reading pious muslim - equals terrorism link, that simple!

Maybe they're happy to have been caught before they were killed in Allah'a Cause. In this way, they did their best in jihad, but didn't pay the ultimate price.

Well, so much for preserving a chain of evidence. Now there isn't one...

Someone at little green footballs commented that "whatever" was in the trunk could not have been very stable, if they had to detonate it on the spot.

I get the general impression that "whatever" was in that trunk, wasn't just exploding "made-in-china" cell phone batteries!

Assalamau Laikum all,

I suspect that they (probably) were on their way to a local police station to hand these devices in....and ask for political assalym in exchange.

It is possible that they are planted kaffur (hence the lack of links to terrorism), got the kit off the real perputators and simply got apprehended (by mistake) by a couple of cops who were simply doing their job well.

Per the FBI, there's never a link to terrorism....
even when it's so obvious that the "terrorism" is the ideological swill these two and countless others have swallowed. Notice how the FBI never says link to "Islamic terrorism."

And the only reason we have a so called "war on terror" as a result of 9/11 is because the horrors that took place that day were seen by millions the world over. No way could the govt (Bush, Clinton, whatever administration) lie about it and say it was empty fuel tanks on a 747 (flight 800), the Egyptian Air pilot crashing into the sea, etc. No witnesses or the few that saw anything were discredited or ignored without shame by their own government.

We're waging a "war" we didn't really want and a government that really doesn't want to face up and admit to what kind of enemy we are fighting.

Gosh, why would an employee of NASA want to sabotage his own project? I'm confused.

Youssef Megahed is Corresponding Secretary for ASME and ASHRAE Secretary @ convicted terrorist Professor Sami al-Arian's University of South Florida.

Google "Mohamed Ahmed" + "FBI" and you'll find this little "coincidence";

JAMEL AHMED MOHAMMED ALI AL-BADAWI: Jamel Ahmed Mohammed Ali Al-Badawi is wanted in connection with the October 12, 2000, bombing of the USS Cole in Aden, Yemen...
Just another coincidence.

Major hole in you theory, most people wouldn't transport an unknown explosive in their own car to a location near a Naval base with a brig known for housing jihadist. Most people would call for the athorities to come to the location of the found explosives.

..."the kids were a bit naive.."

I think the DHS is a bit naive. Just look at the last week--Malcom X Bakery, San Jose engineer terror-supplier, and now 2 bomb-makers. If these items were reported on the nightly news, there would be an uproar in this country.

But since these were not card-carrying al-Qaeda, no terrorist link. You know, bombings hurt a lot more when al-Qaeda does the bombing.

RSI,

Heck yeah you're going to be on your own when the crap hits the fan, and you'll probably get my problems from 'the people in charge' than the terrorists.

I've got to be honest with you guys, I was so angry when I read this article this morning I thought I would back flip out of my chair.
I *cannot* believe ANYONE concerned with public welfare and safety would make statements like this! What the h#!! do they think they were doing if they weren't going to blow something up?! Whether it be a naval base, pizza place, or beaver dam these two men were in possession of a explosive device in their car in the middle of the night and it doesn't take a MENSA candidate to figure out they they were up to no good.
We are shaking down law abiding Americans for fingernail clippers at airports in the name of safety- but can't come out and call two men riding around with a bomb in their car terrorists??
I swear, we are doomed. God bless every one of our men and women in uniform; God help 'the authorities'.

Pray, Plan, and Prepare to take care of yourself and your family. If you're waiting for 'the authorities' to do something- then you're S.O.L.
Ask yourself-
Do we have the ability to store several days worth of drinking water?
Do we have food and food prep materials to last for a month or so if the supply chain is disrupted?
Do we have a means to effectively defend ourselves?
Do we have fuel, soap, toilet paper and other consumables we'll need if the supply chain is disrupted?
Emergency prep supplies are cheap and easy to get right now. Don't wait be prepared.

Please! Someone, Somewhere!

Please someone, start up a website listing adherants of islam that have been arrested, indicted, convicted, killed while perpetrating, etc. acts of jihad, supporting terrorists organizations, etc.

This kind of info needs to be easily accessible so that they don't get swept under the rug.

A quick summary:

John Mohammed and Lee Malvo---DC snipers,
Mohemmed and Megahed above,
the Lodi CA people,
the imam (?) in Columbus area,
the guy in Columbus that was going to shoot at the mall,
the guys in GA tied into the Canandian plot last year,
the bunch of guys in NY and NJ funding terrorism,
the CAIR leadership,
the truck drivers in Brookville, PA,
numerous people sending money/weaponry to islamic nations,
Dallas area women earlier this month: weapons/surviellance,
the OK football game incident,
the NC driver that drove through crowd on campus,
the numerous people arrested for filming infrastructure,
the people recently probing airport security with cheese, etc,
Sami-al Arian,
Fort Dix plot,
doctor and martial arts guy in FL for supporting terrorism,
Jose Padilla,
the NJ guy fighting in Somalia,
the Marine that disappeared then reappeared in the Mid-East,
Christopher Paul in Columbus-supporting terrorism,
Navy guy, Abujihaad giving info about naval operations,
a friend of Derrick Sherrif, potential mall-bomber,

that is just with sitting down for several minutes. anyone care to add to the list?

Terrorism is becoming a cottage industry in this country. Glad to see that the FBI is onto these gigs, but please don't act like we're delusional when we see what is obvious.

I know where the muslims live in my neighborhood and I do a pre-dawn jog right by their joint every day. I know who comes and goes (men late at night) and I have their numbers.

Eve_Anne,

There is a link to Religion of Peace on the Jihad Watch homepage (lower left side). It's disgusting but a very good archive of islamic terror.

Don't forget that Greyhound bus driver who had his throat slashed right after 9/11. The media described that as totally "un-terror related."

We are surprised by this? The raid at the Your Black Muslim Bakery
http://www.ybmb.com/
was followed by all kinds of disclaimers about how the YBMB was not associated with the "oh so up-standing NOI" "The honorable Minister Louis Farrakahn" - this was from the mouth of a police spokesman.
We are in trouble, if officials are so PC that two moslems with bomb making materials are released so the officials won't be called islamophobic....

Alright FBI, what exactly does it take to be linked to terrorism? Okay, so maybe they aren't members of a 'known' terrorist entity, but are you assuming you have the roster? At the very least, shouldn't it be illegal for non-citizens to possess firearms or explosives in our country? If not, shouldn't it be? Let me clue you in, because I know an organization packed with attorneys doesn't think like normal people, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, It's a damn duck. The more unbelievable part to come is that we will confer all the rights we enjoy as CITIZENS of the United States on these Jihadi jackasses. Wouldn't it be easier just to grill them for information and deport them after tagging them with an RFID device?

Koolaid_Killsus:

yes, you're right. But in Dearborn/Detroit there are Muslims driving gasoline and Propane trucks every day. And they carry 10,000 gallons of product. But they are good Muslims, so not to worry.

So was there a news conference at 11:30am or not?

It's reckless to jump to too many conclusions, but since U.S. authorities never seem to tell the whole story it invites speculation.

Are we sure that those are mugshots or could they be student pictures?

Read this article (it's a few months old) but it speaks kindly of RS and Jihadwatch.
http://www.nysun.com/article/49389
One of the survivors of the Empire State Building shootings, Matthew Gross, recalls Mayor Giuliani sitting by his hospital bed and holding his hand. Admirable indeed, but Mr. Giuliani blamed the shooting on laws that allowed Kamal, a 69-year-old Palestinian, to buy a gun in Florida after having been in America only two months. Yet the note found in Kamal's pocket left no doubt that his rampage was planned and politically inspired, not a random act. The police commissioner at the time, Howard Safir, described Kamal as "one deranged individual acting on his own."

Does anybody really believe that anymore?

Missing link…found.
A creature suspected of being the much discussed and highly elusive missing link was caught on amateur video addressing reporters recently in DC. The link looks much like a human, although a closer examination reveals a large portion of the links brain to be severely deformed. The link in many cases seems quite normal, it is only when it opens its mouth and attempts to reason that the truth about the link becomes shockingly apparent. In spite of these limitations the gubment continues its active recruitment of above average missing links. A spokeslink was contacted and stated that the gubment does not discriminate against links. we are an equal opportunity dolittle organization we take pride in the fact that links from around the country come together in a patriotic attempt avoid doing anything, said Sam (call me magoo) Washington.
Ok, now I understand.

Family members told Bedier they think the materials were leftover fireworks Megahed kept in his trunk since July 4.

If these guys are foreigners, then why are they celebrating an American holiday like July 4 with fireworks? Sorry for asking such a stupid question.

Thanks, Omega man!

So, where's Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. when he's not at home?

I bet HE wouldn't declare these obvious Mohammedan wanna-be Terrorists "no immediate threat."

If you're reading, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU FBI? ARE YOU REALLY SUCH IMBECILES? "SENSITIVITY-TRAINING" RE MOHAMMEDANS HAS ROTTED YOUR BRAINS?

Something about the smiles

I realize its more likely that these fiends of allah are sunni, but if my theory of Iranians holds up
(they smile at the most idiotic moments) than these goons are Iranians.

Apparently there was a news conference...a little bit of information is here:

http://www.wcbd.com/midatlantic/cbd/news.apx.-content-articles-CBD-2007-08-06-0023.html

According to the article, Sheriff DeWitt (I'm being kind, and not mis-spelling his name the way I'm tempted) says "he can't be sure...But they have not ruled out that they really were only making fire works."

That settles it! Turn 'em loose. They MUST be innocent.
Obviously it was racist, islamophobic, hate-mongering deputies that arrested these kind-hearted college students on false charges. I mean...when I build fireworks at home, I always do the same thing: by the chemicals, put them in the car, and then drive several hundred miles to put everything together. When I'm through I always make sure I leave the leftover components in the car, too. It make a great air freshener- smells like burning infidels.

We are doomed...

Yeah, what's the deal with Typekey? I keep getting "Internet explorer can't display the page" crap. And then my comment didn't appear.

Great! Felonies!!! Woo-Hoo!!!

Ahmed "What should we do"

Yousef "Lets go find some foxes"

Ahmed "Where do we find foxes"

Yousef " They are at famous American landmarks like the White House and Statue of Liberty. That's where we find hot American foxes"

Ahmed "Are you sure about this Yousef?"

Yousef "Yes, always. American foxes are at famous American landmarks where they keep their birth control devices"

Ahmed "Should we bring anything Yousef?"

Yousef "Yes, always, lets load up the trunk with explosives. American foxes love a big bang"

Ahmed "Are you sure about this Yousef?"

Yousef "Yes, always, you heard about song 'She Bangs She Bangs' ,No?

Ahmed "Yes, I know this song"

Yousef "Ok then, lets load up our explosives for the American foxes"

Ahmed " I'm not sure about this Yousef, why do I always listen to you?"

Yousef "Oh come now Ahmed, you know, now say it with me,...come on, say it with me......"

Ahmed and Yousef....."Because,... we are two Wild and Craaaazzzzy Guys"

I think we have typekey overloaded today!

Posted by: livefreeordie! [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 6, 2007 1:19 PM

And then it did appear. What's up with Typekey?

Anyway, Briars - you know that Mohammedans especially love the American Day of Independence!

Those bombs/explosives were just big fireworks with which the Mohammedans could express their zeal for our holiday!

Posted by: darcy [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 6, 2007 1:20 PM

My take - for what it's worth (which is about two cents): Is it possible the FBI put a muzzle on the sheriff so they could question these guys without alerting other possible co-conspirators? Just seems strange that the guy who was positive he had something big here now is backing off at top speed. Sorry if I'm repeating someone else - so many comments, so little time! ;)

Come on guys these are just a couple of "normal muslims" exploiting thier freedom to haul around explosives.

I see Naseem the polisher has entered the infedel world.

Yea naseem you are probbaly right these "good boys" are probably working for us Americans, there are so many willing to do so.

In fact it's probably true that all those muslims who remain silent EXCEPT when islam is offended work for the same goals as us Americans.

Thanks Naseem i feel much better now and i can put away my spy glass and recorders.

Keep polishing Naseem
