No threat, says Knocke. Just precautions. From WNBC.com (thanks to Jeffrey Imm):
NEW YORK -- Authorities were taking extra counterterrorism precautions Friday in response to what they said was an unsubstantiated radiological threat to the city.Officials said they had not changed the city's terror alert status in response to the online chatter mentioning a truck packed with radioactive material. Police had deployed extra radiological sensors on street, water and air patrols, and were stopping vehicles at checkpoints in lower Manhattan and around the city.
Deputy Police Commissioner Paul J. Browne called the measures "strictly precautionary." He said the online posts were made following a video released Sunday that featured an American member of al-Qaida threatening foreign diplomats and embassies across the Islamic world.
"We are closely monitoring the situation," said Homeland Security Department spokesman Russ Knocke. "There continues to be no credible information telling us that there's a threat to the homeland at this time."

...the extra security will probably become mandatory full time...one hopes the security personel do not become lax in providing it...
....if one day, you notice a sudden disappearance of the niqab/burka dressed burka babes from the sidewalks and the absence of other Muslims in your neighborhoods, you might look a little harder for unfamiliar vehicles or suspicious activity.....
...slow down the jihad...ban Muslim immigration...

From the DENIAL FILE: No threat here, no sir. Nope, ain't gonna happen, naw schucks.....
The estimable Mayor Bloomberg says there is 'no substantiation for this threat........'
I'd rather not see the 'substantiation' of this particular threat, i.e., people dying in the streets of New York. (AGAIN)

I am smart enough to know that I am not that smart at all. I moved out of NYC over 7 years ago, several months before 9/11.
Unfortunately, our enemy does not need to blow us up for their terrorism to work. As long as we are going to take the failing position of -"you'd better not cross this line, or I'll..." - we are destined for a protracted period of paranoia, internal gut-wrenching, no-confidence, and possibly even depression.
From an individual point of view, whenever I was subjected to a personal attack for no reason other than my energy and existence (I am a virtuous person), my reaction has been to recoil, genuflect to my enemies strength (as opposed to my own), and then spend a great deal of time recuperating and reflecting on what went wrong. Case in point, I was fired for making too much money at a bank I worked at. The guy who did the firing had some Napoleonic complex and truly seethed in my presence. A week before the evil deed he screamed at me for walking in his office (door was open) at 5:30 pm (he was really busy). Too make matters worse, all of my deals were suddenly rejected by underwriting (forget that real people were waiting for real money to buy real estate). In the end, there were only the daggers of half-truths baked into full lies to facilitate the will of a vicious dictator. I am still recuperating from this mess.
If you will give excuse to this long winded narrative, you may see that the patterns are the same. When something good is attacked by something bad, the good can not but help to do as good does. Which is to see where its responsibility is. In this matter, we are currently outclassed, as the bad is better at being bad, than the good is at being good. Quite simply we do not have our act together.
Like I said, as long as we keep drawing invisible lines in invisible sand, we will continue to give up our precious ground. Hence, the most valuable real estate in the world (I don't know of any other country whose borders are so well known), suddenly finds that its value is really not that valuable. I am reminded of myself in a fit a self-loathing, unable to see that I am so much more valuable than those around me. If only I had the confidence to assert that superiority!
I would like to finish this post, but I am so vexed at the lack of any inertia in this matter. We need revolutionaries who can both see the landscape clearly, but more importantly, seize the opportunity to pull us forward and out of this quagmire. Our rantings and ravings behind this electric veil are worthless (I respect the knowledge and education, thank you Robert), school is out, and it is time to get working.

I, too, lived in NYC for a few years before 9/11.
In those years never once did the word "Muslim" cross my lips. Or 'Mohammed" or "Islam" or "koran." Or "Terrorism."
My, how things have changed. I'm so glad I don't live there anymore.

Radiological bombs are a costly nuisance to clean up after, but not very dangerous.
Just part of the monetary jihad.
Along with frivolous lawsuits/legal harassment, all kinds of sabotage, and welfare cheating.
The jihad is a hydra.
Not all of its heads are helmeted.

It's really retarded for NY NOT to be on full alert full time. The rest of the country as well. Preventative medicine is what is needed, but we wont get that because the authorities wont act till something bad happens first. Then they act surprised, and caught off guard, and take forever to get their acts together. PC is preventing us from doing what needs to be done in all areas. We need to redefine our national priorities. We are under attack, and in danger, and the PC crowd not only wont do much about it, they encourage it, and defend it, even though if they gave it a little thought, they would know that what they are defending will eventually consume them as well. Islamic hegemony, aimed at world domination, is a fact that is easilly researchable. It is discussed here frequently.
It is not just violent attack that we need to concern ourselves about, it is also immigration, rapidly multiplying voters, gaining political power,
and eventually achieving the political majority in gov. This is using 'our' democracy, that they dont believe in, as a tool to take power without firing a shot or blowing anything up. Then they can institute Sharia and thats the end of America, and the beginning of a new era, Americastan, where anyone can get stoned at any moment.
In Americastan lots of people will get stoned.
Getting stoned will become a national pass-time
replacing baseball. There may even be masses of people getting stoned at the same time.
I know thats over the edge, but Americastan is an idea that is in itself over the edge, which is why we should resist it in any manner possible.
The Islamic Republic of Americastan, wont fly around here, I hope it won't fly around there either...

When the Canadian official was questioned about the seventy-five nuclear sources that have gone missing in his Country a few months back, he let slip that there were around fifteen hundred unaccounted for nuclear sources in the US.
Nobody followed up on that one.

Obviously we all have to live in fear because our "representative" "government" is too busy sacrificing our military in an effort to gobble up some more oil that than just taking out the people who plot to kill regular working Americans to advance their religious fantasies.
Well, we got the government we voted for. Thanks.

I think the Muslims of the world better hope these sort of threats are only false alarms, else the USA just may elect Tom Tancredo as Commander & Chief of US armed forces and then they can guess what new coordinates will be set on certain nuclear missiles on US nuclear submarines in the Arabian Gulf. CAIR can sue him if it wants.

True, a radiological device doesn't have the destructive power of a nuclear weapon. It makes a very expensive mess to clean up and scares the hell out of people who don't have a good basic understanding of radiation and who listen to the MSM for information.
I hate to say it, but if such a device was detonated in a large city I truly believe a short-term coverup could be a good thing. The MSM will herd people rapidly towards total chaos and panic and God only know knows how many casualties could result. The device shouldn't cover that large of a area with radioactive materials. Keep it quite for a while and (hopefully) emergency personelle will be able to calmly evacuate the people in imminent danger.
I'm surprised this hasn't already happened- and I won't be surprised when it does.
Pray, Plan, and Prepare.

If any CBR-type weapon is used anywhere in the US, all the attempts to calm anything down will prove useless...there will be HELL to pay. All bets are off.
If you think the supermajority (81%) was pissed off at the illegals issue over the past year, wait till one of these goes off...that will pale in comparison and impact.

i'm a lifelong nyc resident and i do not intend on leaving or letting the muslims threathen me.
if another 9/11 happens, god forbid, it will be time for the citizens of this country to take matters into their own hands and not rely on those in power.
time to do like they did in the wild west and assemble a posse and rid our country of the enemy. they do not respect our values they do not care about democracy, why should they be here!
every mosque should be monitored as to what issaid, every person should be background checked who attend the mosques. all these terror plotters are always connected to a mosque. best of all, ban all immigration from muslim countries, ban all muslims from coming here.
if something else happens, the gloves should come off.
bomb mecca and medina. and keep bombing every muslim "holy" site until they submit.

Worth repeating:
"HOW ABOUT DEPORTING islam FROM AMERICA ???
to me that seems a simple and tactical answer to the OBVIOUS threat from within."
To which I'd only add, at the risk of stating the obvious (obvious to everyone except ostriches!):
WHERE THERE ARE NO MUSLIMS THERE ARE NO TERRORIST ATROCITIES.

MORE OF YOUR TAX DOLLARS BEING SPENT TO DEFEND YOUR CITIZENS FROM THE EVILS OF ISLAM. THAT'S A WASTE OF TAXPAYERS MONEY. THAT MONEY COULD BE SPENT ELSEWHERE, LET ALONG DEFENDING AGAINST ISLAMISTS. WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE AFTER 9-11-2001 WAS TO HALT IMMIGRATION FROM MUSLIM COUNTRIES AND BUILD DETENTION CENTERS FOR ISLAMIC TERROR SYMPATHIZERS.(Mr. Hooper please note: Robert Spencer does not advocate detention centers and never did say it; however I endorse them in fighting Islamofascism in this country.)
