Are they rioting over the Hyderabad jihad attacks? Outraged at this hijacking of their peaceful religion? No, they are rioting over the apparently accidental deaths of four Muslims. "Taj Mahal closed to tourists after India riots," from Reuters (thanks to Twostellas):
Police closed the Taj Mahal and placed parts of Agra city under curfew after Indian Muslims burned trucks and battled police to protest the deaths of four community members hit by a lorry.The accident occurred around dawn in Agra when the men were returning after marking "Shab-e-Barat", or the "night of forgiveness or atonement", when Muslims pray for the dead.
Angry crowds set fire to 11 trucks, including the one involved in the accident, said state police officer Brij Lal.
"With curfew imposed in six police circles of Agra, the area in and around Taj Mahal is also completely shut to public as a precautionary measure," Lal said.
Television footage showed smoke billowing over one neighbourhood, young Muslims clashing with police and a line of trucks burning fiercely.
"They are hurling bricks at police sent to stop the violence in one area but the situation is coming under control as our people are on the job," Lal added.

What are they upset about? According to islam, isn't everything that happens done according to Allah's will? So are they complaining that Allah shouldn't have willed this? Blasphemy! Off with their heads!

Good work - seeing Taj voted in as one of the new 7 wonders of the world by a majority of Indians recently made me sick. Glad to see that closed to tourists - time that gravy train stopped.
I recall that several months ago, there was a Jihadi plot to blow up the Taj. What happened? Can't the Taj get the same fate as the Samara dome?

Hope it's not the beginning of similar events like last summer's French "youths" rioting. Hopefully India will take a firmer hand though they've got way more ROP adherants than France.

This is insanity. It's disgusting.
In a sane country, when people are killed in accidents, we have police investigations and sometimes even special inquests. If citizens feel that traffic lights need to be installed in a bad area, or that speed limits need to be changed or enforced, they organize and petition their local government.
We don't use it as an excuse to go on a truck-burning, looting, tourist-endangering rampage.
It's called civilization. We don't live by mob rule.

Even we have bad people willing to use a car accident to provoke a riot. At least they're the exception. The Crown Heights riot was sixteen years ago. Our problem is that anyone who wants to discredit us can point to such incidents, no matter how long ago, as "proof" that we're no better. We'll hear from Muslims and from their sympathizers that the US has its own dark pages in history where similar things have occurred. We'll also be told that the lorry rioters were not representative of Islam - they were the exception. Then the "who are you to judge" chant begins anew and we quickly back down. When does the cycle stop?

Considering many of its architects and workers had their fingers and hands amputated by Muslim overlords, in order to prevent any future palaces rivalling the Taj,such a fate would be ironic indeed.

When someone ran down some Sikhs in Vancouver Canada, there were just some collective community grief, flowers, and some angry concerns about elderly drivers expressed. This tragedy involved 6 dead and 20 injured, however there was no rioting.
Not all religions are the same, some are actually more peaceful than others. Sikhism is more peaceful than Islam. Actually, all other major religions are more peaceful than Islam. One day collectively humanity religious and secular will realize what Islam is and then collective deal with this ugly theology by globally condemning it as an anathema to human civility.

The Taj Mahal is shining a monument to cruelty.
If they had gold-plated Auschwitz, it wouldn't be any less monstrous.
Mumtaz, the wife of the ruler who contracted this inflated cenotaph, was a vicious number who accompanied him on war raids and liked watching staged elephant fights back at the palace.
"Whitewashed sepulchre" fits perfectly on this gaudy mosque of the dead.

I wonder if the Sweet Singer of Mughal India, William Dalrymple, who has written about the intrigues of star-crossed lovers who transcend racial barriers amidst the luxe and volupte of Mughal courts, in his very-upscale but essentially cartlandish historical (non-) fiction,whose "The Last Mughal" based excitedly on some never-before-seen material for which large claims are made, and the author coccolato and made much of among the glittering prize-givers of London and Delhi, is going at any point to have second thoughts about Islam and The Wonder That Was Mughal India, which is to say the wonder of a slave-society based on Musliim masters and Hindu slaves.
I doubt it.

It's worth noting that she was a breeding machine, and ultimately died of childbirth. And you are right for the same reason that GC Scott alluded to above - that the hands of the Hindu craftsmen who built it were amputated, so that they couldn't replicate that feat.
It is galling that so many Indians consider it a wonder of the world. In fact, one might say that that itself is a wonder.
