Yes, but relax. "This had nothing to do with terrorism," said Deputy Federal Public Defender Guy Iversen. Maghloubi's attorney said that in his own nutty, marvelous, winsome way, his client was trying "to actually try and help a rapprochement between the U.S. and Iran" by helping a foe of the Thug-In-Chief. But is any opponent of the pint-sized Mad Mahdist a friend of the United States? That, unfortunately, is not so clear.
"Man pleads guilty to plot to sell weapons to Iran," by Greg Krikorian for the Los Angeles Times (thanks to Mackie):
A West Hills man has pleaded guilty to an audacious plan to buy as many as 100,000 Uzis in the United States and sell them to officials in Iran's government.Under a plea agreement reached this week, Seyed Mostafa Maghloubi, 49, acknowledged that he tried to obtain submachine guns and night vision goggles and ship them to Iran, in violation of U.S. laws prohibiting such transactions.
According to the plea agreement, Maghloubi's plan dated to at least October 2005 when he approached an unidentified individual and said he was interested in buying the weapons and goggles.
The individual, who was identified only as a cooperating witness for the government, brokered a meeting between Maghloubi and an undercover Los Angeles police detective who Maghloubi believed was an arms dealer.
[...]
The discussions eventually led to Maghloubi taking delivery of three fully automatic Uzis and one pair of night vision goggles.
At all times, the plea agreement says, Maghloubi -- who was born in Iran and is a naturalized U.S. citizen -- sought to deliver the military equipment to a faction within Iran's government that is aligned with a former president who is a political foe of the country's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
In that light, Maghloubi's attorney said, his client was trying "to actually try and help a rapprochement between the U.S. and Iran."
"This had nothing to do with terrorism," Deputy Federal Public Defender Guy Iversen said.
A spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office had no comment on the plea agreement.

Please someone more computer savvy than I: start a website listing the jihad/terrorism (including financing) related arrests here in the US!
JIhad Incorporated by Steve Emerson has a summary of the more notorious arrests/convictions

"This had nothing to do with terrorism."
I guess it depends on how narrowly you define terrorism.
Sometimes it seems as if our law enforcement and elected officials believe that, unless they find taped phone conversations between the person and Bin Laden, it can't be terrorism.

LOL@topic
Somehow, I can picture a nuked US city in the background of a new pic/news segment, and some politician still trying to claim:
"...bu...bu...but, there's no evidence to support the notion that this could be connected to terrorism in any way."
Either this PD is a complete moron (the only debatable point is for how long), or fatally naive in some rainbow-ridden, chocolate-covered teddybear world of fantasy.
Another beyond-illucid schizopath, making yet another beyond-illucid schizopathic comment,
nothing new considering PD is a lawyer. lol

Deport this spawn of benighted islam.
These throwbacks who cannot design much less manufacture modern technology have to be kept away from heavy machinery.
This guy's definitely Gitmo material.
As for defense counsel - hanging out too long with the lying liars.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO POST THIS ANNOUNCEMENT AT OTHER WEBSITES
The U.S. Senate Project (an initiative to increase congressional awareness of the nature and goals of jihad) currently has 67 volunteers in 35 states.
WE ARE STILL SEEKING ADDITIONAL CITIZEN VOLUNTEERS FROM ALL 50 STATES, ESPECIALLY THE FOLLOWING 15:
Alabama
Connecticut
Delaware
Hawaii
Kansas
Louisiana
Mississippi
Montana
North Dakota
Oklahoma
South Dakota
Utah
Vermont
West Virginia
Wyoming
The Project: We're looking for at least two people in every state of the Union who would be willing to purchase, from Amazon or any other source, a copy of Robert Spencer's Religion of Peace? Why Christianity Is and Islam Isn't and mail it, on an agreed upon date, to one of the senators in your state. We want to get the book simultaneously to all 100 senators, in order to send a strong message. If we get more than two people per state, books can also be sent to the U.S. House of Representatives.
If you’d like to be involved, please write to me at traehnam@yahoo.com under the subject heading “Senate,” and tell me the state your senator represents, an email address where I can reach you, and a nickname. No need for your real name. And I will never share your email address with anyone, not even with other volunteers for this project.
And visit www.jihadawareness.blogspot.com to get more info on this project and to leave comments other volunteers can read. You can also see there the growing list of participants in this project, and the states their senators represent. I've also designed a graphic that might amuse. Scroll down when you get to the site.
Once we have at least two people from every state, we can agree on a mailing date and then each of us can mail a copy of the book on that date.
Right before each of us mails the book, we can issue a press release to various media outlets in every state, and in that way announce and explain the mailing. And perhaps we can come up with some other ways of maximizing the effectiveness of this project and gaining as much positive attention as possible.
Congress is in recess until after Labor Day. But one of the project's volunteers suggested contacting Rep. Sue Myrick, who started the Anti-Jihad Caucus in Congress. I'll try to coordinate this project with Rep. Myrick to maximize its effectiveness. I've also been calling various congressional offices to get advice on how best to go about the project.

It would seem that the good folks at the FBI don't think that mass killings could possibly be considered terrorism.
If you listen to the US government for too long you'll end up believing that terrorism has nothing to do with terrorists at all...
I hate to say it, but forget about listening to any public statements the US government makes about Islam OR terrorism as it's sure to be either a red herring or politically correct (or possibly something even worse...).

Yeah, Hugh, Uzis are Israeli weapons. Sell them to the Iranians THEN tell them they broke their own laws and cannot use those filthy contaminated weapons.

The Uzi requires high quality machine work and other aspects of skilled labor and it is helpful to possess a work ethic. Of course the Iranians would want to buy them...how else would they get them?

Your list is by no means exhausting, and that is the sad truth: Why in the world are Americans so studpid, uniformed, and self-loathing to allow these round the clock travesties?

For all you immigration officials:
The test is simple:
Does the applicant believe in the koran and the original islamic texts.
If so block him and/or kick his butt out of the West.
(thanks for clarifying this Hugh)
(great project traeh)
God bless America.

You know those night-vision goggles are going straight to Iraq. One advantage GI's have against the insurgents is those goggles.

Why didn't they just give Mr. Maghloubi the Uzis -- 20 to 30 percent of the weapons booby trapped to explode in the faces of those trying to fire them?
The alternative would have been to make them all defective and unusable.
We could always have arrested Mr. Maghloubi later -- that's if the Iranians didn't already have him rubbed out.
How can we expect to win this war if we lack the emagination to do the things necessary to win?

They could have exposed the Uzi's to high levels of radioactivity and let them poison the recipients upon delivery.
Then blame it on Mahmoud, because everyone knows he wants nukes.

Supposedly, this political opponent is Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. The one wanted for "crimes against humanity"(The Federal District Court, Washington D.C.; Case Number: 04 CV00008), and by Interpol for being one of the masterminds behind the 1994 Buenos Aires bombing that killed 85. The man who stated first that Israel will be wiped off the map, a cause so well accepted by the populace that Ahmadinejad took it as his own. And recently, told the Central Council of Students Islamic Association Union in Europe, that the students duty in Europe is to promote free expression of Islamic ideals and viewpoints and to transfer science and technology to Iran. Who is head of over 50 Islamic Associations with over 2,700 active members in Europe. Providing him with weapons is not terrorism related? Might as well say the Pope is not related to Catholicism.
Could he may not want a few weapons in European hands untraceable to Iran?

"They could have exposed the Uzi's to high levels of radioactivity and let them poison the recipients upon delivery."
profitsbeard,
Good idea, and I'm sure there's many good ideas out there to take advantage of situations like this.
It seems too me that our intellegence services can be incredibly dull-witted, when the only thing they can think of is to arrest someone instead of seeing the the opportunity a situation like this presents.
Every intellegence agency should have a dirty tricks department whose sole purpose would be to think of ways turn the tables on our enemies when they try stunts like this.
All it would take is some emaginative and creative people who love the challenge of outwitting an apponent.

Without psyops, WW II would have been lost (Enigma Machine, et al).
The Jihadists understand this (the cunning 'sucker punch' of 9/11 with mere boxcutters).
The prissy West will have to relearn it.
Or Fall.
