Germany considers increased spying on Muslims

By Matthew Schofield at McClatchy via Matt Drudge.

BERLIN — After thwarting what might have become a "massive" attack on American installations, German authorities will review ways to fight homegrown terrorists, including a proposal to allow Internet spying on all German converts to Islam.

The search for seven other suspected members of a German cell of the Pakistan-based Islamic Jihad Union continued into Thursday night, with investigators saying only that they knew who they were seeking.

Anti-terror police arrested three men in a village in central Germany Tuesday, outside a vacation cabin where they were suspected of building a bomb. Germans were shocked to learn that two of the alleged bombers were native-born and had common German names, Fritz and Daniel. All three were unemployed and living on German government benefits, but other details are sketchy.

Fritz came from an upper middle class background, and German media reported that he converted to Islam about 10 years ago. His mother was a doctor, his father owned a successful business, and he's married and attends a technical college in Ulm.

"Daniel", who like Fritz hasn't been further identified, was known for angering his neighbors in Saarbruecken by praying loudly every three hours, but little else is know about him or "Adem", the Turkish-born third suspect.

This was "something new, and not in a good way," said Col. Christopher Langdon of London's International Institute for Strategic Studies. They "came from the white German population. They were very traditional German residents who converted and radicalized. These bombers were not Pakistani or Moroccan. That is raising eyebrows."

It is raising eyebrows among the politically-correct who insist that Islam is a religion of peace and that terrorists develop only within oppressed ethnic minorities. The case of Fritz and Daniel provides compelling evidence that the only irreducible attribute of Islamic terrorists is -- you guessed it -- ISLAM.

Anti-terror forces had been concerned primarily with first or second generation Muslim immigrants — not white Europeans.

Guenther Beckstein, the interior minister in the German state of Bavaria and a conservative leader of the southern wing of Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Party, has called for a new law authorizing online surveillance of Islamic converts.

Entirely sensible -- though one can only imagine the heat he is going to take.

"Germans converting to Islam should be watched because they tend to show particular fanaticism in order to prove worthy of their new religion," he said Thursday.

The number is growing, according to the German Islam archive. In the last decade, only about 300 Germans each year converted to Islam. But in 2005, the number rose to 1,000, and it jumped to 4,000 in 2006.

4,000 new potential jihadists last year from within the native German population. Not a reassuring thought. The problem is: what is the alternative to Islam for a thirsty European soul? Fervent European agnosticism? Brussels worship? Having thrown God out of their societies, Europeans are now having to confront Allah.

"Having thrown God out of their societies, Europeans are now having to confront Allah."

That says it all! It's only a matter of time before prayer rugs will be spread out on the floors of the great cathedrals of Germany, and Beethooven and Bach will be things of the past in the concert halls of the new and enlightened Islamic state of Germany.

Spying on converts isn't enough if Germans are serious about saving themselves from the Islamic scourge. They, and all European countries, must purge themselves of the abomination of Islam.

It's about time a government understands were the threat comes from and is willing to do something about it.

Danke Deutschland

I got into trouble on this site when I suggested that Christianity is the only answer to Islam.

Atheism?

C.S. Lewis on atheism:

"f the universe is devoid of meaning, then one cannot say it is meaningless."

Muhammadans are modern-day Pharisees! Read your Gospels and it will boggle your mind.

"Having thrown God out of their societies, Europeans are now having to confront Allah.""

......hmmm, the dhimmicrats have virtually outlawed the displaying of the ten commandments, having prayers on the sports fields, eliminated prayer in class, outlawed Christian hymns at school events, forbidded any references to Biblical lessons in speeches given by students, made it difficult to build new churches.....

...Can the Americans have any other choice other than to confront Allah...after all the Muslims seem to have no problems getting their agendas into our schools, our places of employment and into every fabric of our lives....

...we could start to recover by banning Muslim Immigration....

Mmmm that's a hard one...how's about 'tarred and feathered, followed by 25 years hard labour for being a total idiot.

You know what I am amazed at? From a 30 something perspective we have been left with so much garbage from you baby boomers I froth at the mouth whenever I think about it. Everything from your liberal social morays … to this mess with Islam that we are going to have to deal with. I cannot believe that you are leaving us with this mess. We’ll deal with it sure as hell we’ll deal with it but it will curl your collective socialist nose hairs to see how. All my generation knows is hate from Islam and the Middle East only now it is not only over there it is over here and spreading like cancer. Thanks :-)

I'm looking for the headline: "Germany considers increased DEPORTATION of Muslims."

Posted by: JohnAdams [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 7, 2007 2:28 PM

so much garbage from you baby boomers

Hey ameriki, KMA. Your life is very soft and you are eating well from the hard work and technical progress form us boomers. I doubt that you 30 somethings have the moxie to confront the coming storm. From what I see, most of the people your age constitute most of the apologists.

Spying? No ,every muslim should be hounded out of every western country .

Posted by: KAOSKTRL [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 7, 2007 2:40 PM

No way that sort of monitoring would survive constitutional challenges in the US. In the end, we may all be saved by scared countries with fewer freedoms and protections than we enjoy.

Ameriki,
Every generation whines the same whine about the generation before. Only the details change.

Posted by: iamnot [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 7, 2007 2:44 PM

Hey Peyalo don’t get your panties in a wad. I appreciate most of the things you have done, however in order to prevail in this we are going to have to throw off most of the crap your generation has pumped into our heads, so if most of the appeasers appear to be coming from my camp it is because we are still adjusting attitudes to meet the coming threat. Oh and excuse me for whining about the coming of threat of Sharia law and Islamiztation of the west. Just saying your rules of war, Geneva conventions etc. gone, done.

Greg & Ynkedoodl2

If Germany does to Islam what it's done to Scientology, problem solved. In that case, it wouldn't be necessary to replace agnosticism or atheism with organized Christianity or anything else. In such cases, those people who are going to Islam because of the lack of life's meaning can instead either go to Christianity (without it being re-officiated as the state religion) or anything else without threatening anybody.

Having said that, since Europe isn't about to do a large scale implementation of Benes decree, it's only solution - given that scenario - would be to re-embrace Christianity. Given the fact that most of them are agnostics or atheists, that would be unfortunate, but it would certainly be prefereable to Islamizing.

"All three were unemployed and living on German government benefits, ..."

.....does this sound like the Muslim youths in your neighborhood?.....

....Ban Muslim Immigration...

It's Husseini, the beloved of Hitler Grand Mufti of Jerusalem come back to haunt the German State.

'You wanted me, and now you got me' he is saying, 'and you were bitching about your former zionist problem - well you robbed and murdered them, and now you've got me to contend with.'

Did Hitler even read history ?

Ameriki, I can tell you right now that I am doing all I can do while I have to keep a job - and when I retire - I will do more, as much as an old woman can do. But, you will have to do the same - get yourself educated, when you get of an age 'know your enemy', as Sun Tzu tells us in the 'Art of War'. Never underestimate them and never become lazy. If you do any studying of Mr. Spencer's 'blogging the koran' you will find that they have not been lazy for 1400 years - but the ones that they killed did. (as normal people do)

Our societies got lazy and comfy, and now we are not only facing islam, but also our own who are chosing ignorance and denial.

I sound like I am preaching so I will stop. I, personally, have been in the military and have read many books on tactics and also Sun Tzu's book - which is unusual for a lot of women. And I can't forget all the over 50 books on some aspect of islam - which is totally unusual for anyone. But, I refuse to be categorized and chose knowledge over ignorance which means I email Congress, the Pentagon, the FBI/CIA, the President, the news and keep telling them when they are wrong, when I want something (like a law passed, or am against something), etc. You can do those things also - the power of the internet!

Be careful with words in our PC world too - I have to remember that one a LOT! I can be one lippy, old crankster!

I just found an interesting website that condenses Sun Tzu's 'Art of War'.

Sort of feel like I chased everyone off of this page LOL. Thanks for your advice, but do you want to hear something interesting? I too have read the Art of War. Did so at 17, still own the same copy. Should be required reading in our school system.

Ameriki--

From what I've gleaned from reading the comments, I don't think Pelayo is old enough to be blamed for the shortcomings of Geneva convention as applied to modern warfare (e.g., fighters without uniforms or formal armies) etc. Most of those people would be in their 80s or older now. Nor can his generation be blamed for the handling of the Vietnam war, in that it was so often waged by politicians rather than generals.

The baby boomers were the grunts on the ground in Vietnam, while the previous generation (and even some from the generation before that) were calling the shots.

So, the roots of our troubles go back farther than the generation presently in power. Things like moral relativism (and the whole condescending crock about the "noble savage"), and Western self-loathing can be seen much earlier: one example would be the "primitivist" trend in European art in the first half of the twentieth century. And, Marxism surely had its impact as well, again particularly in the first half of the century, though it predates that period. And there's certainly more one could cite.

So, hug a baby boomer and tell them you don't blame them for all that's wrong with the world. Except Levitra commercials during the evening news, which hardly any young people watch anyway.

The gutless sometime perverted leaders who are religious imposters and bore the shit out of people in the disguise of representing an "organized" spiritual alternative to Islam are to blame. I wave the secular banner but I am deeply religious but see the churches and synagouges as established, pathetic, meanigless institutions devoid of even a moral fiber, feeding a pathetic herd of zombies who bop in and out of its buildings with no more purpose than a dog relieving himself on a hydrant in his daily walk.

How many of them even show one ounce of repulsion at the barbaric Islamic manifestation that has infected our planet? Some of them are even enablers who with their pathetic Inter Faith unions hold hands with the Islamists never confronting them with the theology that has inspired murderers.

These German youths kill two birds with one stone: they convert to a phony religion in an attempt at finding spiritual fullfilment and they kill their parents for being the plastic, loveless bores that gave them no direction except possibly a phony wave at a diluted Christianty. Judiasm, Buddhism etc.

Oh boy, someone made me aware that I used 'crankster' What I meant was - cranky oldster - I combined the words to make a new word, I thought. I am not a doper!!

MarisolJW, R_not

First of all you are talking to someone that was raised by hippy Communist, so I probably do have a distorted view of your generation. I get very angry when I think about all of the lies I was raised with. Pretty funny though we get into political shouting matches every time we are around each other. I guess I’m what her mother would call revenge. Honestly she literally wishes Israel would be wiped off of the map, she makes my blood boil. I know most of your generation isn’t like this I’m just carrying bad baggage, and she almost assaulted me last night over a debate, this is just personal crap I guess sorry … hugs….. I owe you Boomers an apology … what can I say you can’t pick your relatives. The Levitra thing was super funny BTW. It was great seeing your viewpoints by the way set me right in all of this.

What is the alternative to Islam for the thirsty European soul?

There are still plenty of churches in Europe for any Europeans who want religion.

The fact that most Europeans are not interested in religion, any religion, will prove to be their strength when muslims try to de-secularise European society.

you can trust Europeans to fight back when the time comes.

"The fact that most Europeans are not interested in religion, any religion, will prove to be their strength when muslims try to de-secularise European society"

Uh, Voltaire. It's already happened. Europe has Sharia all over it.

Science. Get rid of all religion.

Posted by: Xeno [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 8, 2007 1:30 PM

xeno:

I wonder if you can see how your remark only justifies how those "science" alone adherents are the mirror image of "religious fanatics"?

No difference.

Posted by: atheling [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 8, 2007 2:14 PM

No, I can't see that at all. Perhaps you could clarify?

Posted by: Xeno [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 8, 2007 3:51 PM

Whilst I await Atheling's response I think I'll quote Richard Dawkins response to this 'familiar accusation':

"The answer to the familiar accusation of atheist fundamentalism is plain enough. The onus is not on the atheist to demonstrate the non-existence of the invisible unicorn in the room, and we cannot be accused of undue confidence in our disbelief. The devout churchgoer recites the Nicene Creed weekly, enumerating a detailed and precise list of things he positively believes, with no more evidence than supports the unicorn. Now that's overconfidence. By contrast, the atheist says the humble thing: of all the millions of possible entities that one might imagine, I believe only in those for which there is evidence – trombones, pelicans and electrons, say, but not unicorns or leprechauns, not Thor with his hammer, not Ganesh the elephant god, not the Holy Ghost."

No difference eh?
