Muslim group behind ‘mega-mosque’ seeks to convert all Britain

Tablighi Jamaat sets out to clear up misconceptions about Islam. By Andrew Norfolk in the TimesOnline (thanks to Kemaste):

A Muslim group that wants to open a giant £100 million mosque in London has set its sights on “winning the whole of Britain to Islam”.

Tablighi Jamaat aims to build an Islamic complex near to the site of the 2012 Olympic stadium, with a mosque for 12,000 people, by far the largest religious building in Britain.

The organisation, which has millions of followers worldwide, insists that it is a peaceful, apolitical revivalist movement that promotes Islamic consciousness among individual Muslims. However, intelligence agencies have cautioned that the group’s ability to fire young men with a zeal for Islam acts as a staging post, for some, along a path that leads to jihadist terrorism.

Kafeel Ahmed, the Indian doctor who died from burns last month after trying to set off a car bomb at Glasgow Airport, is the latest in a line of terrorists for whose initial radicalisation Tablighi Jamaat has been blamed. The group (literally, the preaching party) belongs to the ultra-conservative Deobandi school of thought within Sunni Islam, whose adherents run more than 600 of Britain’s 1,350 mosques.

In recent days The Times has exposed the virulently anti-Western creed of some British Deobandis who preach that non-Muslims are an evil and corrupting influence. Their defensive, isolationist approach to life in Britain is shared by many British supporters of Tablighi Jamaat.

One leading advocate, Ebrahim Rangooni, has said that the movement seeks to “rescue the ummah [the global Muslim community] from the culture and civilisation of the Jews, the Christians and [other] enemies of Islam”. Its aim, he wrote, is to “create such hatred for their ways as human beings have for urine and excreta”.

Mr Rangooni has also given warning to parents that non-Muslim schools “turn humans into animals” and that sending a Muslim child to a British college “is as dangerous as throwing them into hell with your own hands”.

Representatives of Tablighi Jamaat refused to attend a public meeting on Friday to discuss plans for the “mega mosque” in West Ham, even though the debate was organised by a Muslim group.

Tablighi Jamaat was founded in 1926, in India, by a Deobandi scholar, Muhammad Ilyas, who wanted to raise Islamic awareness among rural Muslims in south Asia. He promised them that by obeying Islamic laws and following the example of the Prophet Muhammad in their personal lives they would one day “dominate over non-believers” and become “masters of everything on this earth”.

Ishaq Patel, Tablighi Jamaat’s first amir (leader) in Britain, is said to have been on pilgrimage in Mecca when Ilyas’s successor gave him a long-term mission to win “the whole of Britain to Islam”.

Yoginder Sikand, a Muslim expert on the movement, says that its ethos of “social and cultural separatism and insularity” seeks “to minimise contacts with people of other faiths”.

The self-segregation that this encourages is evident in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, where the group has its European headquarters. The Tablighi Jamaat complex – housing its large Markazi mosque and a Deobandi seminary called the Islamic Institute of Education - is based in the Savile Town area, which has an 88 per cent Asian population. The overwhelming majority of its 5,000 residents are Muslims from Pakistan or the Gujarat region of India and some, at home and at work, have little contact with nonMuslims.

It was on the advice of a Tablighi Jamaat scholar that Aishah Azmi, a Dewsbury teaching assistant, refused to remove her full-face veil in the class-room while helping young children who were learning to speak English.

Mr Sikand says: “There is little doubt that the sense of cultural separatism and heightened [Islamic] identity consciousness fostered by Tablighi Jamaat can be taken advantage of by more assertive Islamist groups that have a more explicit political agenda.”

One of the suicide bombers who attacked London in July 2005, Shehzad Tanweer, studied at the Deobandi seminary in Dewsbury and Mohammad Sidique Khan, the leader of the 7/7 terror plot, was a regular worshipper at the adjoining mosque. Richard Reid, the shoe bomber, was said to have been influenced by Tablighi Jamaat, several of whose adherents were also among those arrested last year over an alleged plot to blow up transatlantic airliners.

Shabbir Daji, a trustee and secretary of the Tablighi Jamaat mosque in Dewsbury, told The Times that the movement’s aim was “unity among all humanity”. He said that it had no hidden agenda. “We never come out on demonstrations against the Government,” he said. “Our aim is to make each and everyone . . . a better Muslim.”

Including you and me, whether we like it or not.

Lower than that! A muhammadan needs to piss and shit. But he will tolerate the infidel only as long as HE MUST!

Again in the TimesOnline comment section below this article, the Muslims continuing to say that this kind of militant Islam is a small aberration and that Islam is so "peaceful and beautiful." These may be nice people, but only insofar as they are ignorant, deluded, or just plain lying (all of which qualities are part of the duplicitous Islamic expansion plans). Of all people who would be hoodwinked by Islam, of course its most devout adherents would be the last to see it. Do NOT believe these people. Islam is Islam...and it's got to GO!!!!

Posted by: JohnAdams [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 10, 2007 2:40 PM

"...the Jews, the Christians and [other] enemies of Islam”.

So, are these the same 'enemies of Islam' whose murder by suicide bombings some 13 percent of our own Muslim neighbors justify, sometimes, in defense of Islam'?

Posted by: PRCS [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 10, 2007 2:44 PM

Under the comments section in the Times webpage, muhammad makes a comment. Yes, muhammad himself! And guess what? muhammad sees things differently. Cognitive dissonance?????????

"All the views metionned against Tablighi Jammat is rediculous and absurd. I have never encountered any Tablighi brother who is extremist or jehadist. By large they are the most loving and compassionate people. Why do spread lies and distorted truth about the muslim. I am sure if you approach their leader you will see by your own eyes that they are peaceful people who just have love and respect for their religion. Islam has never intended to harm anyone it is just some people they don't understand their religion properly and they act on their own desires.

mohammed, Nottingham,

Phew! I'm reassured!

Posted by: Ynkedoodl2 [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 10, 2007 2:51 PM

Much play is made of these 600 mosques being run by extremists. But what critics forget is this is a good thing. Those 600 mosques have Imams who preach to empty halls. The vast majority of Muslims, who are peace loving and non-violent, just wouldn't sit there listening to them spew hatred, sexism, and racist comments. Such views would be so opposed to the Islamic view, as to be almost blasphemous, they'd all walk out, wouldn't they?

Posted by: Ian [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 10, 2007 3:11 PM

Ian:
Exactly. Remember that deceiving the infidel is virtuous. Until we see somebody actually DO something we must assume they are lying.

Posted by: JohnAdams [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 10, 2007 3:18 PM

Yup Ian,

Everytime a mosque goes broke cuz the overly-radical imam alienates the good, peaceful, tolerant muhammadan majority, they just open a new one. Which, I guess, explains why there are 600 Deobandi, islamist mosques in England with nary a soul in any of them to bend down and alla akbar the moon god.

It might take a generation or two, but that day is comming when prayer rugs will cover the floors of St. Pauls and Westminister Abbey -- and many of the other great cathedrals of Europe.

British, and other Western leaders, have lost any will to defend their countries and Western Civilization. They hide that lack of will behind the dogmas of multiculturalisn, diversity, and inclusion. It's easier than admitting that they just don't want to make the hard and necessary decisions to save their countries.

God, do we need some great leaders.

Posted by: rational [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 10, 2007 3:53 PM

rational said "God, do we need some great leaders."

I'd settle for some good leaders.

Or at least some leaders that quit saying what a great religion of peace islam is. sheesh.

Agreed. So long as we have Muslims in our country our leaders will be too afraid to call a spade a spade.

Churchill had no problem lambasting Nazis and Naziism during WWII.

But then, 1940's Britain didn't permit Nazis to immigrate to their shores, did they?

churchill also had no problem lambasting islam!

Sigh.

Those were the days.

Posted by: atheling [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 10, 2007 4:35 PM

Ya, we need rescuing from Judiasm and Christianity. Why, just the other day a Jew blew up innocent civilians on a bus. And then a Christian blew up a market full of innocents as well. Pure evil!

Oh, wait, those were muslims who committed those atrocities. So if they did it, it must have been good.

So let Mr. Rangooni know that not only do we not need to be rescued from Christianity or Judaism, we don't even need to be rescued from Islam...na, you all are just like a sliver in our collective bootys. Sorry to say, but you don't scare us or intimidate us.

But you might want to start looking around for who's gonna rescue you from the consequences of this war you started with us...(hint, though: don't look to a fellow muslim...they just like to kill everybody.)

And Leon,

We had no problem detaining Japanese citizens after the suicide attacks on Pearl Harbor, but every history teacher I've ever had decried it, as well as the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

One of my children asked me, 'Why didn't the Japanese give up after the first bombing?'

Bulldoze the benighted mosque.

I am amused by moslems on chat boards that just cannot for the life of them understand why the West doesn't "respect islam."
All the suicide bombings, 9-11, the clerics calling for our heads...is the ummah that ignorant?

YES.

I have no problem with the Japanese internment, though they should have received greater compensation.

When we're at war everything becomes black and white. That's how you survive. Us or them.

We cannot allow any more Muslims in America. And we must deport all non-American Muslims NOW.

Then we sort through the ones who are left.

Posted by: atheling [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 11, 2007 12:42 AM

And those we find who are hostile to our Constitution and our way of life must be deported as well.

Posted by: atheling [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 11, 2007 12:43 AM

interestinconundrum + ImNoDhimmi

You are both bemused at the "ignorance" of the Muslims as to why we do not respect Islam.

They are not ignorant. They come from a different culture. Thier culture understands only the stick. My father, who was born in Iraq, says that the Muslims only understand fear, not respect. Whoever has the biggest stick gets their respect. As far as they are concerned the west is weak. they interpret tolerance not as a sign of enlightenment but a sign of weakness. They beleive they have the bigger stick and therefore we should show "respect". They see that fact that we want to talk as a sign that we are too weak to fight.

Why was Sadam Hussein in power for so long, because he was feared. He was feared even in the Arab world. It took an outside power to take him on. During the first Gulf war Kuwait, did not turn to her Arab neighbours for help. Kuwait turned to the holder of the biggest stick.

This is the problem with not understanding the culture we are dealing with. If we want dialogue with them, we have to show them that we have a very big stick and we are not shy about using it.

Ok, i've stopped laughing enough to post now...

Firstly, i will bet anyone £10 that the mosque will never be built.

Secondly, on the little matter of us all converting to islum...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

*wipes a tear*

We're not stubborn or anything, but if the EU has given up on something as minor as trying to get us to sell our fruit and veg in KGs and our beer in Litres...COS WE DONT WANT TO...what chance an islumic britain?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6988521.stm

we even have martyrs, who have died for this cause...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/wear/6988588.stm

So the extremists have 600 Mosques in Britain, thats one extremist mosque for every 100 pubs...should be a good fight.

rational:

God, do we need some great leaders

Today's mainstream politicians only look as far ahead as the next election. If the UK were to become an Islamic state in 50 years time, they couldn't care less. Their main interests are staying in power and acquiring lots of cash for themselves. The country can go to hell.

Gone are the days when politicians took tough decisions which may have caused problems in the short term but were designed to be beneficial in the long term.

The tough decision needed today is to say No to Islam.

What we certainly don't need is for Gordon Brown to introduce tougher religious hatred laws which mean that we cannot criticise Islam.

Like all mainstream politicians he sucks up to Muslims because the 1 million Muslim votes up for grabs can mean the difference between staying in power and being in opposition.

Another good reason to treat Islam like cold bagels and keep them out of pluralistic societies......

I note that in their propaganda, Muslims pretend that Islam is more ethnically diverse than other religions. However, if one looks at Muslim dominated countries there is an extraordinary uniformity and homogeneous nature to the ethnicity of people in those countries. That is especially true among the Arabs. For example, compared to the US, which is ethnically diverse, Muslim countries are not diverse.

Probably the root of this is Arab racism. There is no way that Arabs would permit large numbers of African Negros or other non-ethnic Arabs in their midst. No way. They are very race-ethnicity conscious ("the best people"), though they have more contact with non-Arab Muslims in non-Muslim countries than they have in Arab states.

This entire ideology is deceptive and dishonest-even about race/ethnicity. Islam is, at its core, the engine of Arab Imperialism with non-Arab flunkies bowing to Mecca. It is really a racist ideology in practice in the Muslim world (especially among Arabs). That is another good reason to keep Islam out of pluralistic societies.

Posted by: Frank [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 11, 2007 6:24 AM

I am certain that others (scholars, etc.) have seen what I am seeing in this matter. But much more has to be made of the Arab racist nature of Islam. There is no way Arabs would permit the kind of ethnic diversity of the USA in their countries. The whole thing is such a fraud-even on the matter of race/ethnicity. Muslims are much more seperated by race/ethnicity (ironically-except in pluralistic societies like the US) than in Western countries. At its core, Islam is a racist ideology. I detect that it is far more racist in tendency and practice than other religions. It is sick with deception and self-deception.

Posted by: Frank [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 11, 2007 6:42 AM

The mandates to deception (including the fraud re race/ethnicity) has to destroy self-respect among Muslims. It is so dishonest that it corrodes the capacity to see reality and to be direct in communication. It will be corrosive to pluralism, too. Muslim countries (especially Arabs) are not ethnically diverse. Islam will promote racism, race/ethnicity consciousness. It is ironic that truly ethnically pluralistic societies such as the US are accused of "racism" by people (the goose Creek frauds, Fibrahim Hooper, CAIR liars, e.g.)from non-ethnically diverse, especially non ethnically diverse Arab societies.

At its core, Islam is an Arab-racist religion that is anything but pluralistic in nature. Islam is a fraud on race/ethnicity. They don't practice what they preach, though they may have a chance to do that in the USA.-LOL

I believe ridicule and levity are powerful weapons against islam. Fighting it needn't all be gloom and doom!
