Cartoon Rage is breaking out all over: Bangladesh authorities arrest cartoonist

20070918BangladeshBlasphemy01.jpg
Muhammad Cat: Can you imagine getting arrested for this?

Image and translation of the cartoon from LGF (cartoon via the Sudharamblog):

* Boy, what is your name?

- My name is Babu.

* It is customary to mention Muhammed before the name.

* What is your father’s name?

- Muhammed Abu

* What’s this in your lap?

- Muhammed cat

Yeah, that's enough for a healthy jail term, if not worse. Remember that even though this time it is happening in Bangladesh, this is part of the agenda for the West: compel it through intimidation (and canny appropriation of civil rights language) to adopt Sharia norms for speech and blasphemy. And that in turn is part of the larger jihadist agenda, to impose Sharia everywhere it can.

"Bangladesh authorities ban cartoon insulting Islam, arrest cartoonist," from The Associated Press (thanks to Twostellas):

DHAKA, Bangladesh: Bangladeshi authorities Tuesday arrested a cartoonist after drawings that Muslims said insulted their religion were published in a national newspaper, police and the government said.

A Home Ministry statement said Arifur Rahman's sketches — titled "Name" — that came out Monday in a weekly supplement of the Prothom Alo — "hurt the religious sentiments of the people."

Police detectives picked up Rahman from his house in the capital, Dhaka, after the home ministry ordered his arrest, Janey Alam, a police officer at Tejgaon police station said.

Rahman was yet to be formally charged, Alam said, adding that he was arrested under a stringent law that allows detention without any specific charges.

Bangladesh, a Muslim-majority nation, has no specific blasphemy laws. But offenders can be prosecuted for hurting religious or public sentiments....

Islamic leaders also demanded the Bangali daily Prothom Alo be shut down for printing the "highly objectionable" cartoons and that its editor and published be arrested.

"This is a grievous offense, this is dangerous," said Obaidul Huq, head cleric of the National Baitul Mukarram Mosque.

Bangladesh has in the past banned publications for insulting Islam or Prophet Muhammad.

Not "Islamic Prophet Muhammad." Just "Prophet Muhammad." Imagine AP referring to "the Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God."

While the jihadis are killing people over cartoons, our college kids are falling to the propaganda, check this out (its way O.T. but relevant)http://clubs.ccsu.edu/recorder/editorial/editorial_item.asp?NewsID=280

Submit to the will of Allah.

By the way - No Cartoons!

As the Ayatollah says - "There is no fun in Islam."

This was mentioned before, and I was curious enough to do a little checking.

I have an AP Stylebook from 2000. The entry under "Islam" reads in part: "... was revealed by Allah (God) to the prophet Mohammed ..." Notice the lowercase p.

So, one time recently whilst in a Barnes and Noble, I took a peek at the lastest AP Stylebook, and lo and behold! Mohammed is now a Prophet with a capital P. (And they also cleaned up the various spellings of Mohammed/Muhammad that are found in the 2000 Stylebook.)

I don't know why the change. Is it AP dhimmitude, or do they consider "prophet" to be a title in this case, like Pope Benedict or the Reverend Billy Graham?

Bangladesh has had the advantage of a history of British rule with its great traditions of law and government and parliament, so the dysfunction in its current history might be traced, to some extent, to islam.

It has a largely muslim population.

So the intolerance and repression should come as no great surprise.

Scratch an imam or mohammed, and one discovers an unfortunate body.

"Not 'Islamic Prophet Muhammad.' Just 'Prophet Muhammad.' Imagine AP referring to 'the Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God.'"

My husband and I were in the car on the weekend and the radio news announcer said "the Prophet Mohammed" in a report. I said the same thing to my husband that Robert Spencer wrote above. They should be required to say, "the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God", if they are also required to say, "the Prophet Mohammed". (Arrrgh.)

As for the cartoon, it is unbelievably mild. It's more about the innocence of children, in my opinion. How terrible that this is deemed a criminal offense.

I don't understand this pathological rigidity that is repeatedly demonstrated by Muslims. They're not allowed to think for themselves so enforcement of the rules becomes all-important. Ultimately, I believe, it is about control of the masses by those in power. It is obviously not about true holiness or goodness.

It's just a silly little cartoon. If God were Allah, he could take it. But Allah forbid someone should start to *think* and possibly poke fun at, and poke holes in, Islam's code. That type of dissent (thought-crime) must be crushed immediately.

Josephine,

"But Allah forbid someone should start to *think* and possibly poke fun at, and poke holes in, Islam's code. That type of dissent (thought-crime) must be crushed immediately."

Mo had poets assassinated for poking fun at him. Its all about Islam.

Future dhimmis,

Repeat after me. This has nothing to do with Islam, but rather Islamism.

It's not just AP, e.g. Reuters does it too. In fact, I can't remember ever reading in a newspaper old Mad Mad Muhammad being referred to without a capital pee.

Everybody knows Mohammad was not a cool cat.

Sounds like another Islamic hissy fit.

Signature of the 21st century.

Yeah muhammad was a prophet

a self-fulfilling prophet

He was also a liar and the father of lies and a murderer from the beginning.
=====================

The anti-Christ, muhammad's lie:

[72.3] And that He-- exalted be the majesty of our Lord-- has not taken a consort, nor a son
[with one stroke of the pen, Satan removes redemption through the Lord Jesus Christ and 3000 years of prophecy]

Yet The Old Testament Prophecies Perfectly:

I will proclaim the decree of the LORD :
He said to me, "You are my Son;
today I have become your Father.

Psalm 2,7

Kiss the Son, lest he be angry
and you be destroyed in your way,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Psalm 2,12

"Remember that even though this time it is happening in Bangladesh, this is part of the agenda for the West: compel it through intimidation (and canny appropriation of civil rights language) to adopt Sharia norms for speech and blasphemy".-Robert

That's so true. The propaganda machine (Goebbels-Sudetenland style Cartoon Rage) is geared up to create an image of "victim". However, they are in for a tough time because of all the outdoor cats who will not submit to the propaganda and the deceptive methods (foot baths, e.g.) used to impose Sharia law.

The crisis Islam will face in the years ahead comes from the transport and communications (radio, TV, cell phones (BTW, invented at Motorola-Israel), Internet, etc.) revolution of the past 60 years. Many Muslims see the process of globalized communication as an attack on Islam since it emanates from the West. The communications revolution is having as powerful an impact worldwide as the car had on American society in first half of the 20th century. It's creating a lot of outdoor cats.

However, we must be wary of overdrive Animal Farm control and propaganda via the Internet, etc. The Jihadists and others dream of such control.

It's more than just 'the Prophet Muhammad'. The headline also '...authorities ban cartoon insulting Islam'.

And it isn't just AP. The BBC is, by far and away the winner when it comes to this sort of stuff. Just last night on BBC world, not only was it 'The Prophet Mo' but also just 'the Prophet'. I was just waiting for the (SAW)...it was all but there.

Confound them all

"Muhammed cat." What an insult to the cat!

Such a harmless cartoon. Such a demented group of "people."

Posted by: darcy [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 19, 2007 9:37 AM

Never thought I'd see the day when the effect of a cartoon would be frightening.

Is the story of Mohammed's unwillingness to wake a peacefully sleeping cat (so much so that he cut off the sleeve of his robe, to avoid disturbing said cat) hadith, or just apocrypha? From it, I got the impression that Mohammed liked cats.

One of my cats has three kittens. Now I know what to name them all! LOL

But yeah, this is scary stuff. Murderous rampages inflicted on non-Mohammedans because of mild, and in many cases silly cartoons is one thing. It plainly demonstrates Mohammedan insanity.

But, when it becomes a point of law, made in such vague language--"...offenders can be prosecuted for hurting religious or public sentiments...."
This is the insanity wearing a cloak, and concealing a dagger. Where's the line that mustn't be crossed?

Maybe it was the Muhammedan's wagging finger the public will object to--so true life, you know.

When the AP stylebook starts referring to Mohammed simply as "the Prophet", all will be lost.

"This is the insanity wearing a cloak, and concealing a dagger. Where's the line that mustn't be crossed?"

...hereafter...all Muslims must walk in a state of blind stupor, eyes fixated upon some unseen object, arms extended, all the while mumbling Alllaaahhhh Akkkbarrrrr......

....any Muslims deviating from this will be executed on sight.....

Good grief, here we go again with people who get all bent-out-of-shape for the smallest things. Worse, the animal shown in this cartoon setting is my favorite animal, the cat. Once again, we see people get crazy over a cartoon. I leave this post with my favorite Neal Bootrz comments about another set of Muhammed carttoons and misplaced outrage.

I love this cartoon! It's sweet and innocent. And, yes Mohammedans do like cats, so I don't get the uproar. I suppose the greatness (that's sarcasm, folks) of Mohammed is such that he should not be referred to as any animal. Oh, brother. The cat is so much better, so MUCH better, than stinkin' Mo it ain't funny. A one-celled amoeba is better than stinkin' Mo. I'm sure everyone here agrees.

There is no place in Islam for sweetness and innocence. Sweetness and Innocence gets arrested.

Posted by: darcy [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 19, 2007 10:51 AM

Now I get it. The name is Muhammed Arnold Ziffel.

Here's an insult to all Mohammedans; Wiki has an entire article about Mr Ziffel: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnold_Ziffel

Islam forbids humor.

Posted by: champ [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 19, 2007 4:03 PM

Oopsy daisy! Another one of those misleading translations!

"I will proclaim the decree of the LORD :
He said to me, "You are my Son;
today I have become your Father.
Psalm 2,7

Kiss the Son, lest he be angry
and you be destroyed in your way,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Psalm 2,12"

There are no capital letters in Hebrew. Every instance of "Son" should be read as "son", because throughout the Hebrew Bible, prayerbook and Talmud, the relationship between God and EVERY Jew is that of parent and child. (Some other time, I'll tell you about some of our prayers, like "Our Father...".)

Psalms 2:7 should be rendered: "...you are My son; today I have made you My child."

As for Psalms 2:12, excuse me, there's no "Kiss the Son" or even "Kiss the son". The word mistranslated as "son" actually does mean "son" - in another language! It eventually came to be used by Hebrew speakers, just as we import foreign words. But there is a native Hebrew meaning of that word occuring throughout the Psalms, namely "pure". The phrase in question is thought to mean "Yearn for purity..." by its native speakers. The meaning "son" would require an anachronistic contact with another culture that was still in Israel's future at the time the Psalms were written.

Nothing but net...

Poor mohammed cat...why would any child so curse a feline like that by naming it after the title of a pedophilic bandit chieftain from southern jordan who was a terrorist!

Oh, the Humanity!

Posted by: champ [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 20, 2007 11:39 AM

This is not one of the great knee-slappers of all time, but it is very innocent humor.
Actually, there is a whole tradition in the West of noting kids' humeous malaprops. Kids are still learning, and sometimes get things wrong--and sometimes in ways that are kinda cute.

This cartoon is very much like a Family Circus strip, with Jeffy praying--"God in Heaven, Harold be thy name". I can't think of any Christian who would consider this blastphemous--most would consider it endearing, or at least mildly amusing.

Certainly no one is going to haul Bil Keene off to the pokey for "insulting Religion".
