Stirred up to wage the inner spiritual struggle by Friday sermons, the pious in Bangladesh take to the streets. "Violence over Bangladesh cartoon," from the BBC (thanks to Paul):
Street clashes have broken out in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, as Islamic activists protested over the publication of an "offensive" cartoon.Witnesses say that hundreds joined the protest, even though such demonstrations are officially banned under the country's state of emergency.
Police baton-charged some of the protesters as they tried to break through barricades.
The leading Bangla-language newspaper published the offending cartoons.
Prothom Alo has since apologised for them and said that it has sacked an editor.
Islam is Bangladesh's state religion and past governments have banned publications for insulting Muslim.
The country's religious traditions are moderate but some people believe conservatives are becoming more influential.
Gee, ya think?
Witnesses say the violence began after Friday prayers, when protesters tried to break through barricades put up to prevent them reaching the Prothom Alo offices. The demonstrators demanded the execution of the paper's editor, Matiur Rahman, and burned effigies of him and his Bengali-language daily.
I wonder if a newspaper has ever been burned in effigy before.

If islam is the religion of peace; how come violence always starts after Friday's prayers? Just wondering....
It seems that no one died in the violence, are they losing their touch? Too bad....

Hey, How about Christians in this country (USA) demanding the execution of some lefty P.C. editors.
Now that would be newsworthy! LOL

So why does the violence always start after Friday prayers?
Could it be that the imams have given the faithful the order? Has anyone ever studied the sermons given on Friday to find a correlation between them and the level of violence in the Muslim world?
When was the last time Jews left the synagogue or Christians left Sunday Mass and moved into the streets demanding blood?

Islam = religion of savages and serial killers for allah.
allah = the evil god whose thirst for blood cannot be quenched.

It's a Thugocracy!
The Muhammadans worship the murderer Muhammad. Then, when someone pokes fun at the murderer Muhammad, the Muhammadans try to murder the guy poking fun.
It's the Godfather. It's Scarface. It's a thugocracy. Please don't call this violent Muhammad-worshipping cult a religion.

PMK -- you make a good point when you suggest that the imams might be stirring things up during the sermons.
My husband and I used to own a flood/fire restoration company, and two of our employees were Muslim. We live in Southern California and these two guys went to a mosque close to where they live.
Anyway, one day my husband asked them what sort of things were said in these "meetings" by the imams, and the answer they both gave was really chilling. They wouldn't tell him EXACTLY what was said; only that, "Oh, you don't want to know", was their answer. How odd -- how revealing.
Then my husband asked them what was said concerning Israel and they gave the same answer, only this time they said it with a lot more enthusiasm, "YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW!!!"
Very telling if you ask me. What are your impressions?

It's OK if that's what they want to do AT HOME - in their own lands.. just do NOT do it over here!
I simply do not understand why our dhimmiticians don't make this clear upon entry of any moslem into any Western country.
That's a better deal than the Japanese got in WW2. And still better than the Germans or the Italians got.
Which was reasonable for the Americans to do. Exclude travel from persons hailing from countries who are in a state of war with the US.
problem is we are now at war with liberals just as much as we are at war with the MoFoes.
Which is why the liberals want them here. Shock and support troops.
The revolution will eat its progenitors.

I'm going to say it again: These people are insane.
Is there someone printing the "Muhammed cat" cartoon on a nice, 100% cotton, white, long-sleeved tee, by the way? 'Cause I'll buy.
Also, I certainly hope the barbarians aren't taking things out on innocent cats. My God, I hate these people. They are the world's worst.

This is *insane*. This cartoon wasn't critical of Islam or Muhammed, or even disrespectful--it pretty much falls under the category of "kids say the darndest things!". It's hard to tell how old the boy in the cartoon is--hey, the cartoonist isn't a great artist--but I think this is supposed to be a *very* young child, making an unintentional and mildly amusing mistake.
From above:
Witnesses say the violence began after Friday prayers...
This is so often the case. Some issue crops up in Muslim-majority areas, and you can never tell how bad the reaction is going to be until after Friday, when "the Faithful" have had a chance to hear from the Imams.
The most dangerous time for a Jew, or a Christian, or a Hindu or Buddhist, or any non-Muslim, to be passing a Mosque is when Friday prayers let out.
In contrast, the Sabbath (Sunday in most of the "Christian" West, Saturday in Jewish Israel) tends to ba a very low crime day. People go to church, take the family to Denny's, do some yardwork, watch some football, and then eat too much at dinner. Secularist's days tend to be pretty similar, except for the church part.
It's not that people in the West never commit crimes on Sunday--but it is a fair bet that they rarely do so because their Priest or Pastor put them up to it.

Sort of gives you a clue that the empty-headed followers of these wild-eyed imams don't have a clue, a thought, an opinion, until said "holy man" rants, raves, & fills their minds with trash on Fridays, hmmm?

I think it was in'Why I am not a Muslim' that I read that Hindus in India learned over the centuries of Muslim depredations to stay indoors on Friday because of the rabid mobs pouring out of the mosques after the imams whipped them up into a frenzy of hatred.
The imams are still doing it today. And these Muslim pograms will start in the West also. For the moment it's still, mainly, softly, softly.
One of the imam's traditional and theological roles is to make the call for jihad from the mosque, from the mihrab, usually translated as 'prayer niche' which is more accurately translated as 'place of war'

The solution to the crazed islamic mobs has been staring us in the face for years; get rid of the rabid imams and the maniacal zombies will go home after their Friday supplications to Satan. The mullahs, imams, sheiks, and grand poohbabs incite their malleable herds to violently express their righteous indignation and fury, and to create as much chaos and destruction as possible. It couldn't be any more obvious that the islamic clergy is culpable for inciting riots and mayhem, and worse.
Adult males in most societies are expected to act like mature, civilized human beings, but this is too much to expect of the sex obsessed, perpetual infants of islam. Their minds were warped in childhood, rendering them incapable of independent, rational thought. They are capable of performing the endless rituals of islam like robots, and their emotions are controlled by the demons in the pulpits. Islam in action--- an exquisite exercise in total mind control.
Eliminate the agitators, the incendiaries, and the firebrands that foment rage, victimhood, jihad, hate, and all the rest of islam's foul excrement, and militant, supremacist, expansionist muslims will crawl back under their rocks where they belong. If they cannot be eliminated, they can certainly be contained and removed from the West, where they present a clear and deadly threat to our national security.

I have an 8X10 color photo of the north end of a southbound jackass hanging on my wall labled MOHAMMAD. I wonder if this would upset some whatcha-ma-callits.

Notice we Christians are NOT beheading or demanding the blood of the South Park writers for their Jesus Talk Show!
Imagine if South Park did a Muhammad talk show!
The end wouldn't be just "Kenny" being killed in every episode, that's for sure.

I had one of those too, made into a body target for the gun range...

Keep in mind, though...don't bother with artistry on sex changes...that doesn't apply since he wasn't human-he was hatched.
Hey soarsa, here's an idea...episode of the space station coming down & crushing mohammed instead.
"OMG! Theykilled mohammed!...(quick glance), YESSSS!"
Oh, watch the insecure wusses have a stroke over that one...lol

Bah!
Any state that has a 'state religion' is beyond redemption until they abandon such ridiculous notions.
Such absurd situations will always occur in states with 'state religions'. It behooves the rest of us who reside in more enlightened states to simply refuse to do business with theocracies.
This is why I will not visit Egypt, even though I would otherwise love to.
Remember people... most nations of the world, when one considers their constitutions, leaders, and political systems, can be safely considered to be run by lunatics. There are very few exceptions; perhaps twenty or so. We call these nations (with the possible exception of Japan and South Korea) 'the West'.

More terroristic threats, from micro-tyrants, in order to prevent anyone from calling their pedophile slaveholding warlord a pussy...cat.
Even though Mohammad, in reality, was partial to cats, his hysterical followers won't even give this poor cartoonist a break?
Sounds like the Mohammedans are more ignorant of their own "prophet" than the artist.
Time for a riot about that!

"YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW!!!"
Champ,
Your employees scare me. They illustrate perfectly the reason I have little to no faith in the American Muslim community. Even if they aren't being taken in by the rhetoric, they continue to go to the same mosque and they don't object to what the imam says or associating with people who would carry out his words if they could. It suggests they believe his preachings are in accord with what Islam teaches. So how reliable are they? They can scream "moderation" all they want. Actions speak louder than words.
If their reaction to your question means what I think it means, they cannot be trusted not to betray you and other Americans. As long as they go to this mosque it means they have no problem with the imam and they see nothing wrong with associating with people who would seek to destroy our (and their!) way of life.
They should be judged by the company they keep.
