Bomb kills 8 in Manila mall

Probably the work of the courageous mujahedin, targeting women going shopping. "Blast Kills at Least 8 in Manila Mall," by Carlos H. Conde in the New York Times (thanks to Provoslavni):

MANILA, Oct.19 — Eight people were killed and as many as 130 others wounded Friday when a powerful explosion ripped through a shopping mall in Makati City, the Philippine capital’s financial district.

“This was a bomb,” the country’s police chief, Avelino Razon, said at the scene. “But we can’t say anything else yet because we are still investigating.”

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, in a statement late today, gave assurances of a swift and full-blown investigation. She said the police and the military were “on their highest alert” and that 2,000 more security officers had been deployed to secure public places.

“I warn those who seek to destabilize our government not to exploit this incident for their selfish political motives,” Mrs. Arroyo added, apparently referring to her political opponents, who have been calling for her ouster because of accusations of corruption. “This is the time for all of us to unite. We urge all sectors to remain vigilant as the government steps up security measures to protect our people.”

An initial police report attributed the destruction to the explosion of a tank of liquefied petroleum gas in a restaurant, but that theory was soon discounted. “It appears that this was caused by a bomb,” Mrs. Arroyo said....

The Philippines is home to Abu Sayyaf, a terrorist group linked with Jemaah Islamiyah, the terrorist network based in Indonesia that is suspected to have ties to Al Qaeda. According to the police, the two groups are responsible for some of the worst attacks in the country.

Isnt it high time the RoP was nominated for the Nobel prize for peace. It has been trying hard for the last 1400 years and nothing to show for it. Maybe if it is awarded the prize next year, it wont have to work so hard anymore, and everyone can be happy.

Now, remind me: what is Abu Sayyaf's grievance?

Is it Israel, Chechnya or Iraq? Or all three?

Or is the Philippines' government 'US-backed' and , by implication, totally to blame for everything act of savagery carried out by these brave soldiers of Islam?

Or are Filipino women not 'Islamic' enough?

Or are they resisting occupation?

Or is it poverty? Britney Spears?

Or is it Robert Spencer's fault for driving moderate Muslims to radicalism?

What is the excuse this time? Does anyone know? Does anyone CAIR?

LOL

Well, Arafat was given the Nobel Peace Prize, and he went on calling for the wiping off of Israel from the face of the earth. Just like any practitioner of the religion of peace would.

After Arafat, and now Gore, I would consider the Nobel no different than the plague.

The Philippines has been identified as one of the nations where jihad warfare is presently most active. That is not difficult to believe as this article and many others pertaining to acts of jihad over there can attest to.

If only the Manila government took the situation there as seriously as it deserves to be. Time may be running out.

Progressive lefties would see nothing wrong with bombing a shopping mall.

Its a case against 'consumerism'- how unislamic!

....I wonder if they regret rejecting the American presence.....you recall, the Phillippine Government demanded and received the closure of American military bases in the Phillipines....well, at least the Americans injected money and security into the country...and the Americans were not kidnapping anyone, were not attacking Phillipine patrols, were not attacking Phillpine villages, were not attacking Phillipine Malls, and generally loved the Phillipine people, unlike the Muslims who do all these things and really love to kill the people....

...I am convinced...Ban Muslim Immigration.

I will be traveling to Manila in two weeks. The hotel at which I stay is directly across the street from the Glorietta.

The curious thing is, there are a lot of hired security around the Glorietta, guards at nearly every corner and every entryway. I normally feel very safe in the Glorietta. I suppose I will be eating fewer meals at the California Pizza Kitchen, Hard Rock Cafe or TGI Fridays...
