Yemen Frees USS Cole Bomb Plotter

No worries. He renounced terrorism!

From AP (thanks to all who sent this in):

(AP) Yemen has set free one of the al Qaeda masterminds of the USS Cole bombing in 2000 that killed 17 American sailors, a senior security official said Thursday.

Jamal al-Badawi, who is wanted by the FBI, was convicted in 2004 of plotting, preparing and helping carry out the USS Cole bombing and received a death sentence that was commuted to 15 years in prison.

He and 22 others, mostly al Qaeda fighters, escaped from prison in 2004. But al-Badawi was granted his freedom after turning himself in 15 days ago and pledging loyalty to Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

The official said police were told by the government to "stop all previous orders concerning measures adopted against al-Badawi."

Witnesses told The Associated Press that al-Badawi was receiving well-wishers at his home in the al-Buraika district in Aden.

The Interior Ministry said earlier that al-Badawi voluntarily gave himself up to police, but media reports said tribal chiefs mediated his surrender after he renounced terrorism and pledged allegiance to the Yemeni leader.

When will it get through the heads of those that lead this nation that we have no allies in the middle east.

President Bush Welcomes President Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen to the White House, May 2007

"PRESIDENT BUSH: It is my honor to welcome the President of Yemen to the Oval Office. I have gotten to know the President over the past six years of my presidency. I feel comfortable saying, welcome, my friend.

I had the privilege of calling President Saleh after the elections of Yemen. I told him, I said it was a remarkable occurrence that his great country had a free and open election. I've had a chance to congratulate him and thank him in person today.

We had a very good discussion about the neighborhood in which the President lives. And we spent a lot of time talking about our mutual desire to bring radicals and murderers to justice. And I thanked the President for his strong support in this war against extremists and terrorists. So I'm glad you're here. "

"PRESIDENT SALEH: (As translated.) Thank you very much, Mr. President, for the good reception and hospitality, and also for the excellent and fruitful talks that we had. I'm very pleased for the limitless support by President Bush and the United States for Yemen in the field of combating terror. Yemen is an essential partner of the United States of America and the international community in combating terror. We will continue in this path, on this track.

We had the chance to discuss a number of issues with Mr. President, including a number of issues in the Middle East region, the Palestinian-Israeli problem, the situation in Somalia, the situation in Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan. We found a complete understanding on the issues that we have discussed with Mr. President Bush. We also discussed the bilateral relations between Yemen and the United States.

I would like on this occasion to highly express my gratification and my appreciation for the brave position taken by President Bush since the first moment he took power in this country, since he expressed his belief in the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, side by side with the state of Israel. And I wish that His Excellency would pursue his effort and will continue his effort in implementing the Arab initiative which was adopted in the summit of Beirut to maintain peace in the region. I am sure that adopting such initiative would end 70 percent of the problems in the region.

Of course, you will be in history if you can be successful in establishing the independent Palestinian state before leaving the White House."

PRESIDENT BUSH: "Shukran."

This is an act of war and yet here we are...nothing.

How perverse!! What part of life imprisonment means getting off scott free after escaping from jail and turning yourself in. And Oh, and promising to never terrorizing again. I am slow, blowing up the Cole was not an act of terrorism it was the command of Allah.

Since we don't authorize taking someone out anymore to be PC about everything. Let's call Mossad to do the deed. This guy will do it again trust me.

Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY," says the Lord.

"When will it get through the heads of those that lead this nation that we have no allies in the middle east (except Israel)."

What a surprise its the only non-muslim controlled country. The way things are going my statement maybe true in 20 years....who knows.

I am the modern Nostradamus!!!!

Hey Pres. Bush...isn't Yemen now harboring/aiding and abetting terrorists? What happened to your rhetoric from a few years ago...shouldn't we be bombing the hell out of that guys' house tonight and their capital city, as well as all their port facilities? I thought you said we would hunt down all terrorists no matter where they were and punish the "evildoers".

Since he killed and hurt our Naval personnel, should they be sent in for a little extraction op or payback with extreme prejudice? Where are our Iowa-class Battleships? Why aren't there football-field size craters in downtown Aden? Why is your wife taking pictures with ghoulish looking burqha'd muslim women?

At CNN: Justice Department 'dismayed' over release of USS Cole bombing leader

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/10/26/uss.cole/

"Former New York City Mayor and presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani promptly called for the U.S. government to cancel $20 million in aid to Yemen for releasing al-Badawi."

Its nice to know we are still jolly green giant. Is there not a nation on earth we are not handing out cash to?

"In the war on terrorism, actions speak stronger than words, and this act by the Yemeni government is a clear demonstration that they are neither a reliable nor trustworthy partner in the war on terrorism," said Cmdr. Kirk Lippold."

But....alas....

The Justice Department said U.S. officials will try to work with the Yemeni government "to ensure al-Badawi is held accountable for his past actions."

This has already been soooo productive!

shoot...another mistake...

"Is there a nation on earth we are not handing out cash to?"

Of course it is a stupid question...the answer is no.

A long long time ago in an America far far away, the CIA or other covert military group could have had the means and would have erased Jamal al-Badawi with extreme prejudice. It was stated by others that we need to stop treating these creatures as criminals, but as enemy soldiers, but our loyal Congress will have nothing of it.

An "accident" should happen to this sub-human. And I fully agree with Giuliani that Yemen shouldn't get another dime from us.

Posted by: Wellington [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 27, 2007 12:13 AM

Giuliuani's response was the right one -- and the minimum that should be demanded. End all "cooperatoin" with Yemen. Close the Embassy, close the consulates if there are any. Not a single Yemeni to be allowed into the United States, and ratchet up the pressure on those here, in the thousand ways that are available to a government intelligently intent on putting pressure on a state and its nationals or those who, despite having managed to attain American citizenship, remain loyal to Yemen, or rather, to Islam and to Yemen as an Islamic state run of, by, and for Islam and the Umma.

Make an example.

Re Cole bombers and the attack on the US.

In the 20th century three world domination ideologies (Nazis, USSR, Japanese "Hakko ichiu") were defeated primarily by US power. The fourth form of world-domination ideology is Islamofascism. In all four cases, a plunder-exploitation-supremacist ideology is hidden behind a "religious" or quasi-religious rationalization system.

I think the root of this conflict is really with Saudi-A-totalitarian-Gas-Station ("we really practice apartheid")and with the smaller gas stations in the Gulf. It's not primarily with those who bow to Saudi-A-Totalitarian-Gas-Station. Iran and others are problems, but the gas stations are the big problem.

Re "Hakko ichiu".....

The attack on the USS Cole was a Banzai style attack on the basis of Islamic "Hakko ichiu". Their "Hakko ichiu" is sustained by the gas stations. Unless we become serious about energy independence (for all Kafirs) this "war on terror" is a farce.

Posted by: Frank [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 27, 2007 6:33 AM

I agree with most posters here that we need a hit squad to take out the Cole bombers, as per the Israeli Munich response. Yemeni justice is is less than useless. Only someone like Mitt or Rudy would do that, though.
Islamic justice is an oxymoron.

"And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation in every region now has a decision to make: Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists."

President George Walker Bush, September 20, 2001

He thinks we forget. I do not.

Empty, hollow promises. Think Turkey, think Yemen, think Iran.

If he is not going to honor his own promises then he should at least have the decency to explain to us why he has abandoned them.

Not a single Yemeni to be allowed into the United States...

by Hugh

Isn't Yemen the birthplace of Osama's daddy? How many of Osama's siblings and their families have returned to the US since their hasty departure in 2001?

We could break diplomatic relations but Yemeni officials could still come here under the auspices of the UN. That group of buildings on the East River make it hard to isolate anyone. All member nations have access to the world's greatest metropolis. It's one thing to cut official ties but how do we keep individuals out? Wouldn't it be as easy as proverbial pie for Yemenis to obtain Saudi or UAE passports? Regardless of the king's loud protestations of friendship for the US, the Saudi establishment is rife with jihadists who seek our destruction and will help any and all who seek to bring it about. Barring Yemenis while letting in Saudis or Egyptians is no easy task. The late (and unlamented) leader of the "Palestinians" was born in Egypt. How do you distinguish between a Yemeni and a Saudi if their countries are willing to collude? By name?

Posted by: PMK [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 27, 2007 10:24 AM

Time to send special forces in to take this monster out. We could learn a lot from the Israelis. Not only in this situation, but airport security as well.

Political correctness will be the end of the West. I guess that's why the leftists and islamists get along so well- they have similar goals.

Posted by: lafn [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 27, 2007 5:03 PM

Yemen govt. probably let him out due to internal pressure. If this guy disappears or has a fatal accident within the next few months, maybe we can continue diplomatic relations and aid. If not, we need a 100% break with Yemen on all levels. All Yemen nationals out of the US.

Posted by: Alek [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 27, 2007 11:11 PM

I agree with Alek. Start with Yemen after this outrage, then whenever another Arab country does something similar or provocative, we do the same to them. Boot their nationals out of the USA, and halt or diminish diplomatic relations with the offending country.
I've had it with these savage hypocrites.
