"I Wish That For Just One Time You Could Stand Inside My Shoes, Then You'd Know What A Drag It Is To See You" Alert. Annie Jacobsen reports in Pajamas Media:
July 11, 2005: McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, NevadaAn Iraqi national was stopped at McCarran Airport on July 11, 2005 after a TSA screener discovered a 3-inch serrated knife hidden in his shoe. According to a leaked memo: “[Name withheld] was stopped at D checkpoint with a concealed sheetrock cutting knife concealed inside his shoe. [Name withheld] was born in Iraq. He claimed not to know the knife was there. Subject was traveling on American Airlines Flight #1806 LAS to Chicago. Metro PD ran an NCIC check, which was negative. [Name withheld] was allowed to continue his travel.”
December 2, 2005: John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York
A 50-year-old Egyptian man, who claimed to be a student at Iowa State University, and whose name was Gamal Al Badawi (not to be confused with the USS Cole bomber in today’s headline news), arrived from overseas wearing high-top sneakers bound with tape and with unusual rubber protrusions. Badawi’s shoes were tested for explosives; the sneakers tested positive five times. “The reading for explosives was off the charts,” CBS News’ Scott Weinberger reported, quoting a federal source, who called explosive reading, “the highest ever.” The TSA kept the modified sneakers but let Badawi continue on his travels. When the embarrassing story broke, FBI officials tracked down Badawi somewhere in the mid-west, interviewed him and deemed the case “officially closed.”
June 26, 2006: William P. Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas
Mohamed Bataineh, age 31, was stopped by TSA officials at the Houston Hobby Airport wearing suspicious shoes. Upon examination, federal officials discovered that the “entire soles of both [Mohamed Bataineh’s] shoes were gutted out.” The TSA screener who examined the shoes told local media, “The shoes had been tampered with and there were all the components of [a bomb] except the explosive itself.” Bataineh, who hails from Jordan, was briefly detailed and then allowed to board a flight to Atlanta.

The only way this catch-and-release will stop is if the airlines and their customers stop traveling until the authorities start taking this seriously. But what are the chances of that? And what if that is just what the terrorists want?

Catch and release eh? It's normally catch, TAG and release isn't it?
Doesn't anyone else see that these are test flights to see what can be got past security?
Yet another outrage for my Sunday morning.

The only time "catch and release" is viable is when you have a fishing rod and a pair of pliers.
What gives? I thought we were at war with terrorism. Why not at least arrest the terrorists?
Are we supposed to wait until the shoe bomb actually works?
Or the plane is hijacked?
Or somebody dies?
Does anybody in the local, state or federal government taking this seriously?
Is there any Presidential candidate who takes this seriously?
I don't see any.

Re: Shoe Bomber Alert: Catch and Release
I can understand the chagrin re this. However, I suspect that they had to cooperate with the FBI and identify their mule owners in order to be released. They are terror mules. Their value is in knowing who owns them.
at November 3, 2007 6:08 PM
Is the TSA helping train the Terrorist?
Is this why they are helping them discover the strong points and weakness of our system?
Whose side is the TSA on, or are they so crippled by P.S. B.S. that they are useless?
Every one of these smuggling buggers should have been given a different one-way flight to Gitmo for some server question and answer sessions.
Perhaps instead of wasting the zealous protective agents of Blackwater Corporation on protecting Whinny Anti-American State Department Scum we should use them for Airport security here at home. Send the TSA over to Iraq to protect the Elitist Diplomats instead.

"Bataineh, who hails from Jordan, was briefly detained and then allowed to board a flight to Atlanta."
BRIEFLY DETAINED?? Why wasn't he charged on the spot with conspiracy to commit mass murder? Do we truly lack the necessary desire to protect ourselves?
I hope at least that he was deprived of his bombmaking kit before he was allowed to board a plane!

I would make sure they were clean and release them, too and watch them very carefully after that. I'll bet the FBI paid a lot of visits to these creeps. Who are their collaborators? These types are traced back to a group, a cell, a mosque. They are useful suicide-idiots for who? They are mules.

As the saying goes, if you want something done right then do it yourself.
We are the only ones who can protect us.
I-95 is not a bad way to travel. Not only do I not have to wait in an airport line and take my shoes off for inspections that are clearly pointless, I don't need to allow strangers to search my luggage when I'm not looking and I can bring my water with me. The seats are more comfortable. Then there's the airfare and car rental savings.
So what if that's what the terrorists want? Once they destroy the airlines then they can't use them, either. Who knows? Maybe we'll see a resurgence in Atlantic Ocean travel. Ports of entry will be drastically reduced, since the only access to the US will be coastal or along our two land borders. It'll be back to the future.

Catch, tag, and release. It makes sense from FBI point of view. Follow their footprints 'in the snow' to where hides the lair. The ROP is now deeply imbedded in our country, so keep following those trails. But it makes no sense letting more in...unless we want an incident.
Could that be the plan? If that is, we better have a powerful full force response ready against this badly mislabeled 'religious' cultish zeal now haunting us. Don't give them a chance. Out fiends!
We have no friends in Islam. They hate our freedoms.

It's so hard to get a good, simple pair of quality shoes these days. Just the other day I bought a new pair and imagine my surprise at the poor craftmanship that caused there to be a hand grenade in them. My cousin got his entire 32 piece cutlery set simply by buying shoes. I wrote a strongly-worded letter to the manufacturer... gave them a piece of my mind I did...

I'll bet they got a wealth of stuff from these guys. I can just see the FBI parked outside the home of the guy from Jordan, the FBI guys waving to him in the morning, visiting him at night and on the weekends.
"So, did you get a better pair of sneakers? The one's confiscated at the airport had explosives. We've run the tests. You know, if we want to be mean, we can turn this over to the prosecutors. You'll probably be deported after that. And your bank assets will be seized. But we know you really didn't mean for your happy feet to explode, so we want to know who made you do that.
Who's the head happy foot"?
I can see a Peter Laurie looking guy under the lamp. "You know, this the tenth time I've been here, I've told you all I know".
FBI guy: "I don't know. We think you are hiding something. Who's the head moron in your cell"?
"I'll tell you, but I want you to give me some space. Deal"?
"Deal."

Took the family to Border’s this evening and the cover of The Economist caught my eye. I forget the title, but the subject was the growing threat of religion to global stability and the cover had an image of a hand grenade superimposed over an image of the globe. I thought that it looked promising and started reading.
Made it through the first page and learned:
1. Islam may be the most visible religion but is completely compatible with democratic secular governments. Examples include Indonesia and Malaysia. Also the United States where Islam has assimilated into traditional politics in model form. The US should trumpet this success in its relations with Islamic countries.
2. Surges in other religions parallel the rise in Islamism. Kennedy had to explain his Catholicism but now we have a born-again Christian in the White House. There is a growing Hindu movement in India.
3. The rise of an Islamic party in Turkey is troubling though.
Decided to stop reading and not buy the magazine.
Maybe someone with credentials has an opportunity to write a letter to the editor for the next issue.

Charles Bogle hit the nail on the head...
From the article:
"What this means is that we continue to look for bombs, not bombers. The policy is clear: catch and release."
So we continue to execute a war on terrorism rather than a war against terrorists. Ms. Jacobsen must know that the laws are not supportive of the steps it would take to rid our country (and perhaps the planet) of these types and that is why she directs our attention to congress.
The first time a person endangers my family with a weapon, I can guarantee that disarming him and sending him on his merry way will not be on the police report.

Here’s some of The Economist’s write-up. It’s interesting but doesn’t seem to mention any differences between the teachings of the different faiths and the implications that those differences may have.
“One of the world's great religions, Christianity, split into Catholic and Protestant in the 16th century. Now Islam is having to contend with a sharpening split between Sunni and Shia.”
In any case, it’s a recommended article if you’ve got the time, but I’m glad I didn’t pay for it.

Perhaps we could, in the spirit of multicultural understanding, apply some Islamic principles to this... like... cutting the perpetrator's feet off. Think of the upside for the spies: no more indignation and inconvenience at having to remove their shoes at airports. They'd be easier to catch next time too. We could just consider it karma for cliterectomies.
But, we probably just supplied them with new shoes. I just hope they have transmitters in them.
Who, exactly, is going to protect the DHS rule makers from the American people when one of the guys they let go brings down a plane, or worse?

Many here think the FBI is competent and following all of the suspects. I believe that to be just wishful thinking. The agent fills out a contact report and sends them on their merry way. I just don't get the warm fuzzies that others get about this. All of these are probes of our security. For the few that have been caught how many have successfully evaded detection? Again, no warm fuzzies.

Maher Arar was also a Catch-n-release frequent Flyer with a Canadian Passport except we gave him 12 million dollars because CAIR-Canada helped he with his "Demands" for $400'000'000.00
which Nihad Awad now boasts about support Arar ever since 2002 .
Here something Martin Sheen should read because it's a Timeline for Arar and if you look closely you'll see hopw Amnisty International
twisted the story and fooled US Officials last Month with the BIG-LIE about Arar being a victim of Racial profiling and Torture in Syria .
**************************************************
Jan. 26, 2007
Prime Minister Stephen Harper issues a formal apology to Maher Arar while announcing Arar will receive $12.5 million in compensation.
The package includes $10.5 million for pain and suffering, and another $2 million for Arar's legal fees.
"I sincerely hope that these words and actions will help you and your family begin a new chapter in your lives," says Harper.
The prime minister reveals Canada has sent letters to the U.S. and Syria to protest Arar's treatment.
Arar initially filed a lawsuit for $400 million, and later sought $37 million in compensation.
************************************************
NOW COMPARE THIS ORIGINAL ARTICLE TO SEE HOW CAIR DUPED EVRYONE BUY EVADING THE FACTS ABOUT ARAR FLEEING TUNISIA TO ENTER THE USA BY HIMSELF WITH A POSSIBLE PLAN BY CAIR-NY TO WISK HIM AWAY BEFORE HE HEADS TO MONTREAL.
-------------------------------------------------
*Sept. 26, 2002:
Arar is detained by U.S. Immigration and Naturalization officials at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport while returning alone to Montreal from a family vacation in Tunisia. A citizen of both Canada and Syria, he is carrying a Canadian passport. American officials allege Arar has links to al-Qaeda and detain and question him.
*************************************************
Keep in mind that it was CAIR that boasted about how the 9/11 hijackers weren't American Muslims and the National Security and Immigration
screwed up by "Allowing" these single/ young/male/muslims/flying alone to enter the USA in the first place.
CAIR created the fear of more Terrorism by making the 19 hijackers into Vicitms of poor Immigration rules at the Airports knowing very well that once Security was beefed-up they could launch Lawsuits via Ibrahim Hooper's "Flying Imams" Islamophobia rants that we know will aid and abet more Terrorists to enter the USA knowing CAIR is on their side to launch Lawsuits to silence people from alerting Pilots to a possible Jihad cell of suicide-bomber using Planes .
This info was from the A.I. website which makes A.I. a friend of CAIR and the Arar's by
telling lies to the media though a overt jesture to omit relevant facts like Arar being a Draft-Dodger from Syria and that he rushed to get a Weapons Permit in Canada around 1991-92 just after Gamil Gharbi slaughtered 14 female students near Arar's home of Montreal Quebec in 1989 as Jihad to be with Allah in Paradise according to his Sharia law father who was from Algeria .
Arar also was caught smuggling a undeclared laptop PC into Canada during a Customs check and he refused to give the password so Canada could see what was on his Hard Drive , it's a bit odd that Arar rushes to get married to a Sharia law Orthodox Muslim female who has a relative in Tunisia linked to the Muslim Brotherhood and they quickly start to pump out the babies who are Canadian and prevent them from ever being Deported for Terrorism ties.
Then we here about how Arar had a second home
in the USA and it was near the Boston Airport around the time of 9/11-01 , plus the FBI was watching the Radical Mosque in Boston where Arar attended when he left his loving wife and kids back in Canada who may have been ignorant to his Gun Permit and real intentions while living close to a Airport where a 9/11 plane was hijacked from .
A.I. originally professed that Arar was "detained" in 2002 and Arar himself told the CBC in 2003 that he was sent to Jordan and kidnapped by Arabs who tortured him and then took him to Syria for a Military Trial as a Draft-Dodger , that's when his Wife finally alleged Torture and then crusaded for his release as a victim of US Racism .
The Inquiry documents reveal for a fact that Arar feared a Military Trial by Syria so his wife came back to canada and then used the Media to now Alleged her husband was Arrested in the USA and sent to Syria to be Tortured into confessing he was in Afghanistan.
Don't let your spineless Politicians bow to Arar and Martin Sheen to have Arar taken off the No-Fly list , Arar seems too eager to travel to the same USA he blames for his scams to lie to his wife about the Gun Permit and marrying her to stay in canada .
You caught him , but CAIR is still hell bent on
getting him back in the USA for some secret mission because the Arar's did flee canada in 2002 to live with his wife Family in Tunisia until the Police started to move in and then he fled to the USA right near CAIR's N.Y. Office.
at November 3, 2007 11:09 PM
All seem very bizarre.
For the first one, it could be that the "shoes" were some big ol' boots, some people keep a knife in a boot. It may be true that he didn't know it was there.
The second one could have been anything.
The third seems like he was screwing around with the system. Probably did nothing technically illegal though, or easily proven as illegal -- like some sort of criminal mischief -- because he didn't have anything that was actually dangerous. Laws or policies should probably be updated.
Posted by: Kafir Canada
at November 3, 2007 11:12 PM
BTW
Please tell us Mr.Awad which story is the real one , was he detain in N.Y. for traveling by himself from Tunisia just after 9/11/01 like Amnesty claims ?
Or was he picked up and Arrested in the USA and deported to Syria to be tortured?
It can't be both , so pick one so we can confirm if A.I. is the liar or CAIR is the liar that really backed Arar and the 19 hijackers by CAIR's deafening silence to condemn Terorists with Qurans rather than just condemn Terrorism and violence everywhere.
Richard Reid started the Shoe-icide bombing and now it's all the fashion among the Islamists and females in Palestine dying to meet Allah.
at November 3, 2007 11:29 PM
It is American policy to treat ALL Muslims as inherently pacifist. Moron 1 said it himself in his infamous Islamic Center vomit of Sept. 16, 2001:
We've just had a -- wide-ranging discussions on the matter at hand. Like the good folks standing with me, the American people were appalled and outraged at last Tuesday's attacks. And so were Muslims all across the world. Both Americans and Muslim friends and citizens, tax-paying citizens, and Muslims in nations were just appalled and could not believe what we saw on our TV screens.
These acts of violence against innocents violate the fundamental tenets of the Islamic faith. And it's important for my fellow Americans to understand that.
The English translation is not as eloquent as the original Arabic, but let me quote from the Koran, itself: In the long run, evil in the extreme will be the end of those who do evil. For that they rejected the signs of Allah and held them up to ridicule.
The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace.
PRESIDENT GEORGE BUSH
----------------------------------------
The materialist pillars upon which modernity was established achieved an economic and technological advancement, but failed to satisfy human needs and fulfil the conditions of a stable social life. The western way of life which was founded on material knowledge, technical know-how, innovation, invention and the dominance of the world markets with its products, was not able to give the human soul a ray of light, a hint of (spiritual) inspiration or a strand of faith. It was not able to provide any means of peace and tranquillity for anxious souls. This is why it was natural for a man living in these conditions to seek happiness in the purely material world and look for ways of alleviating his suffering in ways consistent with it. Indeed all that western life could offer him was material pleasure: an excess of wealth, sex and other corrupted vices, with which he temporarily indulges himself, only to find that he is not satisfied. With the decline of family values and the rise of individualism, the modern man, along with the ‘modernised’ one, felt his soul crying out for freedom from this material prison, searching for a release into the vastness of faith and spiritual light.

HUGH: "We are bringing "protected" by the wrong people, using the wrong rules. What is to be done? Who will protect us, intelligently, relentlessly, and with full clarity about the nature and duration and source of the menace? Who?"
RESPONSE: Not trying to be flippant or confrontational in any way here, but it's nice to see the man with all the answers finally asking some questions.
You constantly advocate solutions that you know are sociologically impossible to implement. Doesn't make you wrong at all, just makes you a bit of a Don Quixote, fighting windmills. We absolutely need changes in our educational, immigration and foreign policies...everything you are advocating. But when society's sociological learning curve is so far behind the times, your advocacy so often seems like an exercise in futility, preaching to the choir but otherwise, a voice in the wilderness. I guess most people who are ahead of their time take on a Don Quixote persona, consciously or not.
That's why it was nice to read you asking those questions for a change. It's reassuring to know you're as perplexed and exasperated as the rest of us in the face of such societal inertia.

Where are all these guys now? Living in CAIR safe houses while they plan their next assault? Or they went to Iraq (back to Iraq in one case) and just did an anonymous martyrdom job to get their 72?
Of course the media distorts and time distorts, but these all sound fishy and highly suspect. In case #2, the Egyptian, the FBI tracked the guy down, and cleared him (or so it says), but he could just be lying low until he screws up enough courage to try again. Or he may have just decided legal jihad was more productive (a little money now and the 72 can come later) and thrown his lot in with CAIR. What happened to these people?
The larger question is, why isn't there FBI presence, at least one agent, at every so-called international airport, ready to immediately come down and look into the situation on the spot with evidence right there if TSA has any questions? How can TSA just release people? I think it's not just their fault. There are a lot of cases that seem mighty suspicious but the smoking gun - or bomb - may not be there, even if the instruments register something. Instruments can fail or misread. There should be a trained FBI interrogator to rush right down in a moments notice, take the evidence and the suspect aside and ask some probing questions. The truth will out.

Is this necessarily a bad thing? I am beginning to think not. A man so obsessed with being right and culling his flock until he has only a cadre of yes-people about him should not be a major player in the anti-jihad blogosphere.
People know what is going in with Islamism and the creeping imposition of sharia in the West. They see what is going on and they can find information on any number of sites now. So the loss of LGF to irrelevance is no real loss. There's more than enough other sources for content to take up the slack. And besides people make their minds up ultimately not based on what they read but based on their visceral responses to what is going on in the real world.
It is the real world experience of individuals - seeing the insanity of political correctness, multiculturalism, accommodation and the aggressiveness of the so-called victims - that is driving the growing awareness of Islamofascism.

Thanks for the link. The TSA should absolutely adhere to a procedure of calling the FBI if there is any suspicion. As the article implies, the truth about this guy may never be known (until it is too late) because the TSA called the police and not the FBI (even then, but at least the FBI is at least trained to smell a terrorist rat). Again, why are there not FBI agents at every international airport ready to show up in minutes in response to any TSA suspicions? Why is the TSA not trained to notify the FBI (and not regular police) if a situation arises? It boggles the mind.
""I would rather buy the ticket to go back to my country than stay around and be called a terrorist," said Bataineh, who says he came to Houston legally about 10 years ago."
Yes, please do, Bataineh! Go back home. Get back to where you once belonged, JoJo.

Little Green Footballs exists to make money from "unique view" data. Charles Johnson conceals the fact that he makes money from music artists (he was once one himself and toured with Al Green). When you click on that site, your cookie data is transmitted to 4 different commercial groups. I go there once a day, and do so through proxy sites only. As for current content, most of the material posted by pigeons (Johnson calls them "anti idiotarians") has nothing to do with GWOT and everything to do with making money. Johnson should disclose his parasitism to the pigeons.

There should be a new sign at airport security that reads:
If you try to enter here with a bomb, the bomb is subject to immediate confiscation.
