Italy breaks up European "terror cell"

Now remember, this has nothing to do with Islam, you Islamophobe. "Italy breaks up European terror cell," by Colleen Barry for the Associated Press:

MILAN, Italy - A Europe-wide sweep disrupted an Islamic cell that was recruiting potential suicide bombers for attacks in Iraq and Afghanistan, Italian police said Tuesday, announcing the arrests of 20 terror suspects.
Police said the suspects, mostly Tunisians, were arrested across Europe as part of the sweep against a cell based in the northern Italian region of Lombardy.
Executing the arrest warrants, police said they found al-Qaida manuals for making explosives, detonation devices and poisons, and instructions on guerrilla techniques.
"The investigation has revealed recruitment, training a nd passage to aspiring terrorists to Iraq and Afghanistan," lead investigator Gen. Giampoaolo Ganzer, of Italy's paramilitary Carabinieri police, told a news conference.
The suspects were wanted on charges ranging from association with the aim of committing international terrorism to falsifying documents to aid illegal immigrants.
"Once more, the central role of Milan and Lombardy in the panorama of Islamic militants has been confirmed," the Carabinieri said in a statement.
The group's members had been indoctrinated in militancy in mosques since at least 1998, according to police transcripts, and appeared to take serious precautions.
In one intercepted call, a suspected cell member said that "things are being done with extreme calm, haste does not bring the desired results."
Eleven were arrested in the northern Italian cities of Milan, Reggio Emilia, Imperia and Bergamo. Nine others were arrested on warrants issued in France, Britain and Portugal, Italian news agencies reported.
Authorities in Britain, France and Portugal confirmed arrests.
The Lombardy cell had ties with a group in neighboring Emilia Romagna whose aim is to establish an Islamic state extending from Morocco to China, Italian investigators said. Intercepted phone calls made clear the aim of sending jihadist fighters to Iraq via Syria, including specific instructions on shaving off beards before departure to give the impression of making a "peaceful trip."

A "peaceful trip," for an "inner spiritual struggle."

Ganzer said that while the main aim of the group were attacks aimed at western targets in Iraq and Afghanistan, they also had ties to groups that planned attacks in Italy. Police said the Milan-based cell helped a Tunisian involved in planning a failed attack in Bologna flee to France in 2006. The attack was meant to be carried out around Italy's national elections in April 2006, police said.
[...]
In Britain, authorities said two suspects were arrested in London and Manchester and face extradition to Italy. The men, identified as Ali Chehidi, 34, and Mohamed Khermiri, 53, were accused of forging documents to help volunteers enter Italy illegally.
Portuguese police said they arrested a North African in the northern Portuguese city of Porto on suspicion of international terrorism, illegal immigration and smuggling. He had been in Portugal for three years and had a Portuguese residence permit allowing travel within Europe's Schengen area.

The so-called terror cell in Europe was a plant by the CIA....

I bring you the James Joyce of the anti-Jihad, Hugh Fitzgerald (hopefully saving him the trouble of repeating himself for the nth time):

"The governments of the West will all have to monitor the mosques. That meants they will have to hire agents who 1) know Arabic and other relevant languages, Urdu, Turkish, Farsi, and who are 2) are either non-Muslim, but can pass as Muslims (Copts, who are forced to receive some training in Islam, might be helpful, so too would Maronites, Arab-speaking Jews, Chaldeans, Pakistani Christians, and Berberbs who have turned). One would be foolish to rely on Muslim agents to monitor the khutbas, and other goings-on in mosques.

"Monitoring the mosques all over the non-Muslim world, of course, is a tall order. And a very expensive one, added to all the other huge expenses incurred in the campaign to make Infidel lands safe from the very people who are, paradoxically, still allowed in when should have been clear to all who had bothered to study the doctrines of Islam, and the history of Islamic rule over non-Muslims, as to what was to have been expected.

"These costs, including those for the local police to monitor individuals, and the lawyers and judges who must give their time to approving, or explaining, taps and search warrants and suchlike, and the extra costs of guarding power plants and LNG terminals, and ports, and airports, and marshalls on planes, and ...on and on. Economists need to figure out just what the cost of this internal security against Muslim terrorist threats actually is. It would be instructive for taxpayers to know this: what is the real cost, in terms of all this monitoring and societal anxiety, and the constant need to worry about the latest demands (for a prayer room in schools, or a lawsuit demanding that a Muslim woman be shown with her face completely covered for her driver's license, or all the other demands, big and small, ludicrous and plausible, that are made by Muslims who do not believe in pluralism (except insofar as in the West, and only until they attain sufficient numbers, they must use it to their own advantage), nor the idea that power should flow from the expressed will of the people, not the codified will of Allah in the shari'a, nor equality of the sexes, nor individualism, nor in free and skeptical inquiry. Indeed, it is hard to see how, in what way. Muslims who are believers share any of the beliefs that are essential to, and defining of, our civilisation. Why then do we so blithely allow ourselves to welcome those who do not wish us, our ideals, our society, our own beings, well? What sort of nonsense is this?

"But, coming back to our moutons, those little European lambs whose throats are slit in the streets at Eid al-Fitr, just how are those mosques going to be monitored? Will there be tapes? Will full-time agents have to visit every mosque, for every sermon? Will they wear wires, in the spirit of the The Sopranos or Tommasso Buscetta? How much will it all cost, all this visiting, and taping, and monitoring, and reporting, and checking, and re-checking? How much expense are the countries of Western Europe, how much trouble, are they prepared to go to?

"Once upon a time, one could argue that workers were needed, and MOroccans, Algerians, and so on were eager to come. And so they were, but they had other ideas. They did not jettison their ideological baggage when they arrived in the ports of southern Europe -- no, that baggage became ever more precious and important and defining in their lives. The European elites refused to see, or refused to listen to those who warned, that Islamic tenets had to be taken seriously. Now they are in the fix that they do not quite know how to address straight on.

"But there is a way. First, limit all future immigration to people from Eastern Europe and Russia. Those from Eastern Europe are, after all, officially now part of the EU; they deserve to be allowed to migrate, and to take those jobs. They will not be thegreat security risks that Muslim immigrants will be, and thus their actual cost will not include the hidden cost, as yet unknown, of monitoring them. Or allow in Filipinos, Chinese, Hindus and Sikhs from India, people from Latin America -- none of whom would require the khutba-monitoring, the taps and the tapes and so on, that would be necessary, from now on, for Muslim immigrants.

"And do what can be done to sever the ideological links with the most virulent promoters of hostility. The Europeans should support any American effort to put permanently out of commission the Arab satellite stations (and the satellite itself); they should monitor not only the mosques, but of course all radio and television stations aimed at Muslims within their countries, and not shirk the duty to shut them down if there is the slightest evidence of hostilty being encouraged against non-Muslims of any kind.

"That is a beginning. But it requires a real understanding of Islam, and how, as a system of thought-control, and total regulation both of the individual, and of the Believer's relastions with all Infidels, there is nothing quite like it in the dangers it poses.

"It would be interesting to know how the Turks, at least under Ataturk and Inonu, monitored the mosques, which ones they closed down outright, and how, before the age of tape-recorders, they ensured that the content was, if not anodyne, at least not full of rants against the Infidel.
Given that the Qur'an and the hadith are so full of such rants, it is fascinating to consist out of what material any khutba can be constructed, if the manichaeism essential to Islam -- Muslims being Good, and Infidels being Bad -- is deliberately proscribed. If the right of Islam to conquer can't be mentioned, if the need to "struggle in the path of Allah" (the Jihad) is given only a psychological interpretation, if the natural law by which "Islam must dominate and is not to be dominated" cannot be invoked, why then it is hard to see what is left? And as for inspiring tales of Muhammad from the hadith and the sira, given that he was a political leader and warrior, and fought 78 battles, and was involved in killing hostages, and ordering the assassination of all sorts of people, including a Jew who was over 90 (or was it 100?) years old, and that his favorite wife Aisha was nine when he consummated his marriage to her, well it is hard to see out of what acceptable material Muhammad's life can be told. Possibly it will all come down to chanting over and over again the 99 epithets attached to Allah. If many find it boring, and begin to look for that oldtime religion in other places, that would be, from the Infidel point of view, highly desirable.

Why would they attack Italy? Italy pulled out of the war in Iraq. This shows that it is not all about Iraq or Afghanistan.

To anyone who can answer this question:

Where does the islamic prescription come from requiring men to wear beards? Quran, hadith, sira?

Anyone know? I don't. Thank you in advance for your response.

You stupid infidels, Syria does not allow terrorists to cross its border into Iraq. In the future, please refrain from such idiotic accusations.

@omvi

The beards, the circumcison, the skullcaps, (and yes, the supremacism), the belief that the koran is the immutable word of God, the ritualized prayer, the fasting, the turning in the direction of the East...all of it comes from Judaism, albeit, bastardized, retardized, profaned.

As I've posted many times: Islam is Judaism for retards.

Posted by: Ynkedoodl2 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 6, 2007 2:44 PM

...and that's an insult to retards everywhere, too.

lol...amen to that.

"...whose aim is to establish an Islamic state extending from Morocco to China..."

Wow! That's one hell of a big state! Looks like we'll all see a big tax increase to send them aid if this comes to pass. But I'm confident that our esteemed leaders will find the way to accomplish that-after all, they have the palestinian model to go by.

Prodi has just rounded up a grand total of 30 Rumanians as a respone to widespread rage over the rape and killing of an admiral's wife by a Rumanian illegal.

Why should the Italian authorities, given all the terror plots they have broken up, all the Muslims they have had to monitor, all the effort they must put into into protecting artistic sites and churches, all the manpower to protect those like Magdi Alam, a this point reduce the numbers of those they have to monitor so expensively (a monitoring that takes police and magistrates away from dealing with the camorra, the 'ndrangeta, and the mafia) and expel as many Muslims who do not have Italian citizenship (and even if the obtained it, the circumstances -- the quick marriage to some local in order to stay -- what's love got to do with it? -- suggest that many of those "citizens" acquired their citizenship falsely) as they can. Some on the left will scream, but fewer every day. Let them.

Islam stole all of its early “greatness” from the Persians and Greeks …. This much is very well documented. The “greatness” was the ability of the Caliphate to assimilate new technologies and ideas. The big conundrum occurred when the reality of science and philosophy started to fly in the face of Islamic scripture. Who won the war of hearts and minds? Was it the rationalists, or the literalists? The hearts and minds were won by the literalists. Since then the Islamic world has squandered whatever advantages its early conquests made available to it. All that is left of its assimilative power is the conquest and subjugation of other people. Now this does not mean that the powers that be within Islam are stupid. They are cunning; in fact they know that the last and only shot at conquering the west is now within several generations. The big irony here is that the one thing that made our culture technologically superior was the prevailing of rationality in thought related to science, art, and philosophy, but also in some regards lead us away from the older wisdom of the Church. This lead to obvious lifestyle changes that has made us vulnerable to a conquest of this type, so what remains to be seen is, was the advantage gained by the triumph of reason which lead to the Renaissance, and the Industrial Revolution that gave us our technological superiority a short term advantage, or a long them disadvantage. Less than 600 years ago Islam had just conquered Constantinople. It was awash in wealth a technological advancement from its victories. Forces in the Islamic world remember this. They know and see well the wealth of a whole new civilization that is within their grasp. Now it is poised to do it all over again, but this time in Western Europe. The invasion phase is over, now the colonization phase has begun. Seems we are waking up in time, but what will we do about it? the rest is all a side show.

Aw, come on--these folks were just doin' some interior struggling! Leave them alone already!

...seriously, though, I don't see Islam making particularly big inroads in Italy. One aspect of being a corrupt country (which Italy is, in many ways) is that there are elements that don't look too kindly on someone else (here, Islam) stepping on their turf.

I'd like to see these Islamist types try to build a mosque in Sicily. See how far they get before the whacking ensues.

"The Lombardy cell had ties with a group in neighboring Emilia Romagna whose aim is to establish an Islamic state extending from Morocco to China,"

so the Palestinian question not very high on the agenda then, what a surprise.
Bet that will hit the papers. Islamic terrorist cell wants world domination, no matter what, read all about it.

It has already been done, the building of a mosque that is, and with the current fertility rate of Italy, things will only worsen. The current European model of socialist government, high-cost social welfare programs, with no replacement rate, can only offset Islamic immigration to support it for so long.

It really is this simple. The Italians need to have more children or else deal with the Muslim children that will eventually supersede them.

The varying degree is the temperment of governmental tolerance, but even then, numbers based on monetary realities cannot be side-tracked forever.

Currently the Islamic population of Italy is quite low and will take generations to make any real dent by the Islamists in the demographic make-up to be noticable, but this can always be expedited with a shift in governmental policy. Speaking of which, I hope every eligible American voted today.

Although I completely disagree with your original statement Roobart, at least you are consistent with your position, as stated by yourself below:

"Don't forget the Cosa Nostra--eventually the Muslims will begin stepping on their toes and will get whacked for their efforts."

Speaking of beards, we now know that to cut their beards constitutes "torture."

An NBC News analysis of hundreds of foreign fighters who died in Iraq over the last two years reveals that a majority came from the same country as most of the 9/11 hijackers — Saudi Arabia.

Among the suicide bombers was Ahmed al-Ghamdi, a one-time medical student and son of a Saudi diplomat. In December 2004, he climbed into a truck in Mosul and blew himself up.

On an Internet video, another Saudi says goodbye to his mother, then drives an ambulance full of explosives into a building.

They are among more than 400 militants from 21 countries whose deaths were celebrated on Islamic Web sites over the last two years.

"By far the nationality that comes up over and over again is Saudi Arabia," says Evan Kohlmann, an NBC News terrorism expert.

The NBC News analysis of Web site postings found that 55 percent of foreign insurgents came from Saudi Arabia, 13 percent from Syria, 9 percent from North Africa and 3 percent from Europe.

The U.S. military also says Saudi Arabia and Syria are the leading sources of insurgents. An Army official provided a list of the top 10 countries to NBC News but would not release the numbers of foreign fighters from each. The top 10, alphabetically, are: Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, the Palestinian territories, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen.

"You have some from poor families, some jobless," says Kohlmann. "You also have individuals that come from wealthy families, that come from a life of privilege and substance and material goods and material wealth."

Why do they go?

Saudis captured in Iraq say it's because of pictures on Arab television network Al-Jazeera.

"We saw the Americans massacring the Iraqis," says one Saudi prisoner in Iraq via translation.

Radical Saudi clerics urge them to go to Iraq to kill Americans.

"I read the communique of the 26 clerics," says another Saudi prisoner in Iraq.

Saudi officials insist they've made great strides in the war on terror and are doing everything possible to stop men from going to Iraq.

"When we have the evidence, we arrest those people and we put them in jail and take them to court because this is illegal," says Mansour al-Turki, spokesman for the Saudi Ministry of the Interior.

Monday night, a senior Saudi official expressed skepticism — especially about the Internet eulogies of slain fighters — saying he won't believe that many Saudis have died in Iraq until he sees the DNA evidence to prove it."

...........of course, we have known that it is the foreign fighters who are causing most of the death and mayhem in Iraq....but the stupid MSM and dhimmicrats refuse to believe it....and it is known that the foreign fighers are Muslim state sponsored, receiving both money and weapons from the supporting Muslim states....

....Islam is a military organization more than it is a "religious" one...

it is one of the reasons we must Ban Muslim Immigration...
