Iraq: Suicide bomber kills children, U.S. troops who were distributing toys

More barbarism. "Bombs strike children, US troops in Iraq," by Kim Gamel for the Associated Press:

BAGHDAD - A suicide bomber detonated his explosives as American soldiers were handing out toys to children northeast of Baghdad on Sunday, killing at least three children and three of the troopers, U.S. and Iraqi authorities said.
Seven children were wounded in the attack in Baqouba, where U.S. soldiers wrested control from al-Qaida in Iraq last summer.
[...]
Police said the attack occurred as U.S. soldiers were handing out toys, sports equipment and other treats in a playground near Baqouba, 35 miles northeast of Baghdad.
Few details were available, but the U.S. military said it was a "suicide vest attack" and that three American soldiers were killed.
Rasoul Issam, 16, said he and his friends were playing soccer when the U.S. soldiers called to them from their vehicles to come get gifts.
"We ran toward them and I caught a ball when suddenly an explosion took place about 20 meters (yards) from us," Issam said from his hospital bed in Baqouba.
Mohammed Sabah, 11, was hit by shrapnel in his hand and chest.
"The soldiers gave me pens and I thanked them. After this the explosion took place and I was hit by shrapnel," he said. "The second thing I remember is being in the hospital."
The deaths raised to at least 3,870 members of the U.S. military who have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
The military cast blame on al-Qaida in Iraq.

American soldiers have on many occasions been attacked while distributing candy or soccer balls. Stop it. Stop handing out that candy, stop handing out those soccer balls. The young kids who seem as yet so un-full of treacherous hostility may indeed, some of them, be on the level. But that is only because they are, as yet, too young, to have been fully indoctrinated, as yet not fully aware of the texts, the tenets, the implacalbe attitudes of Islam. The brainwashing is still only in the early stages. But it will continue, and that candy, those soccer balls, will be forgotten.

Stop the good-hearted and naive and dangerous practice. It won't help, or won't help for very long.

Words fail.

Except to say this to those of you who think we should not be in Iraq.

Do you think the barbarians who planned this slaughter on the children deserve to live? I don't. I think we should stay for a long time. While there we should focus on killing as many of the barbarians as possible.

"Stop handing out that candy, stop handing out those soccer balls."

Perhaps the story will change in the re-telling: "The Americans attracted the children with candy and balls, blew up the children, and drove away laughing."

We can not win hearts and minds.
If the little ones have a good opinion of the US soldiers, mom and dad will take care of that very quickly (or the Imam).

Get our armed forces off of the Iraqi streets. Let the State Department hand out toys to the nice Iraqi children. They might learn something.

Hugh is spot on, we need to stop doing this practice. These are Muslims in training and eventually these children will drink deeply from the well of Islam and become what their parents and ancestors are - devout Muslims and will be no friends of America.

We've seen it here, Muslims are welcomed yet grow to resent and hate America and its infidel population.

Leave them be.

It serves its purpose for the time being.

How do you explain these deaths of or fallen soldiers to their families, your son or daughter died while trying to bring a little happieness to a child and was killed by a murdering thug who follows that so called religion of peace.

Who will the iraqis remember? The Americans generosity or the jihadists?

Posted by: leonthepigfarmer [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 18, 2007 7:35 PM

Are we just plumb out of good sense?

Was this life-threatening assignment to hand out toys and candy to Iraqi children worth the lives of these U.S. soldiers?

Do they love us yet?

The timing is weird. How did they know this was the spot where American soldiers were to give out goodies to the kiddies? Somebody on the inside had the scoop, probably one of those Iraqis trained by our troups to 'defend' their country. Let's get out of there, the place is a hell hole, a total waste of time and money, and valuable American soldiers's lives. Bush, you F**ked up!

"The timing is weird. How did they know this was the spot where American soldiers were to give out goodies to the kiddies?".

.......that is easy....as soon as the Americans move out , a cell phone call is made to the Muslims powers to be, indicating the strength of the column and the direction it is headed....The Muslims have suicide bombers already in place in every nearby village......as soon as the Americans stop to attempt to show kindness and express the love for charity and life a second phone call is made for Akmed Mohammad to approach the children and the Americans and to get as close as possible before pulling the cord to detonate the explosives...

...sometimes it is difficult to identify the bombers real target...THe Americans? or the children who love the Americans....

Posted by: exsgtbrown [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 19, 2007 7:36 AM

wxsgtbrown,
both...mainly in desperate terror against those who are no longer supporting them, by targeting their kids, making an example of them to show what their penalty is for taking anything from the infidel who happens to be handing their asses to them now...the added troops was simply icing on the cake-targets of opportunity.

Posted by: jcom972 [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 19, 2007 9:29 AM

The message is very obvious..stay clear of the Americans. Any attack on them is likely to involve you or your children or both, so have no contact with the troops.
Yes..the attraction of their religion is irresitable...where do we sign up?

" Get our armed forces off the Iraqi streets."
posted above

Either we move around where we need to or we get out of the whole s*** hole of a country. Troops cannot huddle in a "safe" zone or quickly there will be no safe zone.

They're desperately trying to prevent anything such as contact and gifts that may paint the infidels as anything but what the terrorists wish them to believe, which seems to not be going their way, which is why they must keep bombing, or lose face...it's part of their psyche, their practice.
It's just last desperate gasps of terrorists, 90%+ of whom have been proven to not even be iraqis...and of course the MSM will milk these (which are proving to be, more and more, isolated incidents) for all it's worth, since they, too, have a LOT to lose by the terrorists losing.
