CAIR seems to be following a risky course here. Conyers himself may be pliant, but if there are hearings, some information may come out that CAIR doesn't want to see coming out. "CAIR seeks removal of label in terrorism case," by Bill Gertz in the Washington Times (thanks to all who sent this in):
The Council on American-Islamic Relations is seeking help from House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr. to pressure the Justice Department to change the group's status as a co-conspirator in a terrorism case.CAIR officials recently met with Mr. Conyers, Michigan Democrat, and then wrote a letter asking him to lobby the new attorney general on behalf of the group, and to hold hearings.
CAIR is among several hundred Muslim groups listed as unindicted co-conspirators in a recent federal terrorism trial in Dallas into activities by the Holy Land Foundation Inc., a group linked to funding the Palestinian Hamas terrorist group. The trial recently ended in a mistrial and prosecutors have said they plan to re-try the case.
Despite its uncertain outcome, the trial has produced a large amount of information and evidence identifying U.S. and foreign groups sympathetic to or direct supporters of international Islamist terrorists.
A 1991 internal memorandum from the radical Muslim Brotherhood identified 29 front groups, including the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), that are part of a covert program by the Brotherhood in the United States to subvert American society.
CAIR officials have requested that Mr. Conyers ask the Justice Department to explain why it publicly identified the 306 co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation trial.
"Those on the list suffer negatively as a result of the label 'unindicted co-conspirator' as it impresses upon the typical member of the American public that those listed are involved in criminal activity," the group said in a letter to Mr. Conyers. "In reality, those so named have neither been charged with a crime nor offered any recourse for challenging the allegation."
The group said the conspirator designation is being used by counterterrorism advocates to block government funds from being used to conduct outreach programs to Muslim groups. Pending fiscal 2008 legislation would block the Justice Department from using any funds for participation in conferences sponsored by a group or person identified by the government as a criminal unindicted co-conspirator.
Critics in Congress opposed the Justice Department's involvement in a conference sponsored by ISNA in September because the group was linked to the Holy Land Foundation case.
CAIR's letter to Mr. Conyers said that "you remember many of these abusive practices from the McCarthy era and the civil rights movement."

Yep. They sure know whom to go to. With a government like the one we got, we the people have no protection against enemies internal and external. (Iraq really wasn't the prime source of danger to us. How many of the 19 airplane killers came from Iraq? Where did most of 'em come from? Huh?)

I believe the '19 airplane killers' came from the Middle East. Several extremely orthodox Islamic countries with strict enforcement of Sharia law were involved. Many, if not all, of these countries also host at least one of the groups supported and defended by CAIR and their associates.
Al Qaeda, its allies, and associates were not, and have not been, restricted to a single country. Initially our government and its allies went to Afghanistan which had direct connection to the '19 plane killers'. Next we went to Iraq because all the available international intelligence indicated that Iraq was the next most significant threat to ALL western societies.
The murderers of nearly 3000 people (your '19 plane killers') were identified as being Saudis that received their training and indoctrination in Afghanistan and possiblely in Iraq. So rather than attack their country(ies) of birth we attacked the countries directly responsible for their training and that facilitated their terrorism.
There may be little evidence to suggest that Iraq was directly or intimately involved in the 9/11 attack planning and implementation. Iraq however, was supportive of Al Qaeda and its activities; 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend'.

McCarthy was proven right over time was he not. It is unlikely that we will wait that long for CAIR. The Goverment is still working on the "un" part.

This puts a lie to the triumphant claim by CAIR that the HLF mistrial was a great victory for the HLF/CAIR/pro-sharia lobby. That they are so concerned about getting removed from the list of co-conspirators shows that they are VERY concerned about the next trial and its possible come.
CAIR is running scared, folks. It is still a part of a potent Evil Empire, but it has been hit and is very afraid of the future. CAIR is vulnerable, as are all Gulf State-funded Wahhabi organizations in the US. They are going strong on one level, but they know they are coming into the light. They are very afraid of the light.

I wish I was shocked by this development... CAIR is not stupid, they are in with flynn so to speak. Political correctness is killing us (as if we here don't know).
But at least there is a medium to expose this garbage.. it is not the main stream media but this story also was a topic on Savage tonight. Why he doesn't have Robert on 40 times a week... I don't know... (well, 40 may be a bit much, I like you robert, but not THAT much.. heh)
