Saudis free 1,500 jihadists after they "repent"

But what did they repent of? They repented of takfir -- the practice of branding fellow Muslims non-Muslims, and thus lawfully to be killed. This practice is used promiscuously by modern jihad groups, and it is that that Saudi authorities made sure they "repented" of -- because that targets them. They did go farther -- read on -- but nagging questions remain.

"Over 1,500 Extremists Freed After Repenting," from Arab News (thanks to all who sent this in):

RIYADH, 26 November 2007 — Saudi authorities have released more than 1,500 reformed extremists, who were detained on charges of embracing and spreading takfeer (the ideology that brands other Muslims who disagree with them as infidels).

The extremists, under the guidance of the Ministry of Interior, had undergone lengthy counseling, according to Muhammad Al-Nujaimi, a member of the Counseling Committee and professor of comparative jurisprudence at the King Fahd Security College....

The committee is tasked with the duty of reforming youths in an intellectual and rational manner on the basis of Shariah. “The committee has met around 5,000 times to offer counseling to 3,200 people, who were accused of embracing the takfeer ideology. The committee has successfully completed reforming 1,500 people,” Al-Nujaimi said.

The suspects were largely confused about the meaning of jihad, which led to their believing in committing blind violence. They also viewed that the present Muslim rulers, scholars and public were infidels, and therefore demanded the establishment of a single Islamic state, said Al-Nujaimi.

Blind violence is out? Good. What about calculated, open-eyed violence? And note again the emphasis on not viewing Muslim rulers as infidels.

“After several graded sessions with the committee, and having been convinced of their misguided vision, they renounced their erroneous ideologies, including the concept of driving out all infidels from the Arabian Peninsula,” he said.

I guess they would have subjected Muhammad himself to a few sessions.

The committee first evaluates the personality and the ideological crisis suffered by the suspect, and then decides on how to clean his mind of the mistaken impressions, said Al-Nujaimi.

Clean. Not wash. Got it?

There is an interesting interview Jamie Glazov did with Muslim reformer Thomas Haidon at FrontPageMag this morning. Check it our folks. I'm interested in the take others might have on him.

I see his efforts as problematic to say the least, but the existence of people like him is cause for at least a particle of hope.

Cornelius,

I cant buy it. Using the Qur'an alone to justify peaceful Islam is a bad idea.

"I remain Muslim, because I believe in the Qur'an and its message."

Enough said

Indonesia (Bali) all over again. These are not allies, they're indirect enemies hiding behind this awful belief system's fake status as a legitimate religion.

Can't wait to see Condi flinching and bowing and groveling at today's mtg in Annapolis.

And our good buddy Karzai freed 7 muslims convicted of killing an ISAF soldier and wounding several others. On the 23rd of May this year a group of doctors were headed from a Norwegian camp to the local hospital when a remotely detonated bomb killed sgt Petri Tapio Immonen (29) from Finland and wounded a doctor severely. The bomb turned out to be a 122mm artillery shell that also contained human excrement to spread disease to any survivors.

7 muslims were apprehended and given the death sentence in June by a local 'court'. This sentence was first reduced to 20 years and then five of them were released on October 9th. Sources in the Norwegian military high command and diplomacy confirm that they were informed that the order to release the terrorists came from Karzai and the central government in Kabul...

In Norwegian (couldn't find an english source):

There is no such thing as a muslim ally, and we'll never win this war until we realize that.

"Over 1,500 Extremists Freed After Repenting,"

They should be armed and in Iraq before Friday evening prayers.

Cornelius,

First, it is difficult to be persuaded by a revert from Catholicism to Islam about how Islam can be reformed. He took up Islam in June 2001 and says he began to see the need to reform in 2003. I realize Haidon has studied Islam and has more than just passing observations to offer. But I don't think his credentials will do much towards affecting wholesale reform of Islam.

Second, he does mention some other muslims in the Quranic movement who have written a book and offer "devastatingly clear arguments in justification of the approach". He says the movement is based on facts and logic. Yet, within the entire interview Haidon mentions not a single one of these approaches, not a single set of facts and or examples of that logic. It is therefore difficult to evaluate the merits of this "movement".

My 2 cents.

Invite these bastards to Iraq.

So we can kill or capture them.

Or to Munich West (Annapolis) where they can test the security.

(Munich West where there is no one to like (except G.W.))

(Munich West - can one even imagine a conference more filled with yesterday's people ?)

Saudis free 1,500 jihadists after they "repent"
...................

Will the poor Saudi gang rape victim, the "Girl from Qatif", be freed from prison and her sentence of 200 lashes if she "repents"?

Somehow I doubt it.

What's the point of executing a perfectly good jihadist when he can be recycled and used for one's own ends?

Wonder if they all got ceremonial swords, like the Pope did?

Hope some of our agents in the region have been snapping their photos and following their trails.

I hear Fort Huachuca is a popular destination for some.

muslims use language in their own refrence frame, the koran

so that 'peace means sura 9:29, non muslims subjugated under islam, subdued and paying the jizya

we in the west have another, totally different mening of the word 'peace'

we keep expecting muslims to change their reference frame, the koran

IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN

when our governments can force themselves to comprehend this, we may have started to confront the muslim threat

They repented, so that's good enough reason to free them. See, Islamania is indeed compassionate after all. Only arch fiends, like that woman who was gang raped and sentenced to 200 lashes get the punishment they richly deserve.

How about some regime change in Riyadh already? Those bastards make Saddam Hussein look better every day.

how to clean his mind of the mistaken impressions

Their minds were dry-cleaned. If they brainwashed them, they might shrink even past their present state in the dryer.

Elric & UsorThem,

Thanks for the input.

I thought it was significant that Haidon called not only for a Quran-only reformation, but ALSO for the reinterpreting of the Quran in a non-literalist manner.

Perhaps the most insightful observation he made was that Muslim reformers who direct their energies to Western audiences are not to be taken seriously.

Haidon's efforts will probably amount to little, but we should wish him well anyways. Anything that divides the Muslim world, that undermines the doctrinal supremacism of the faith, that encourages co-existence with infidels, should be welcomed.

Leopards don't change their spots. Once jihadist always a jihadist, Allah's cause trumps promises.
Expect most of them to continue jihad...

Is it just me or does anyone else actually not believe they have repented? I am such a pessimist, I guess.

They"repented" of any attacks...on SAUDI soil.
Yes, I think they should make their way back to iraq, too...
...they'll be well taken care of in short order, because our boys are running out of enemy targets.
;-)

I understand that the released Jihadists had to promise not to wage Jihad on the Arabian pennesula.

Last I remember America is no where near Saudi Arabia, or the Persian gulf.

"The committee is tasked with the duty of reforming youths in an intellectual and rational manner on the basis of Shariah"

.......anything based on the Shariah cannot be good.....The Shariah is just as evil as the QUR'AN.....

...Ban Shariah, the Qur'an, and ban Muslim Immigration....
