"All governments concerned - even the regime in Damascus - have tried to maintain complete secrecy about the raid." Odd behavior, no? After all, the Assad regime had a chance to trumpet a new Israeli atrocity -- unless, of course, it has something greater to hide. An update on this story. By Uzi Mahnaimi and Michael Sheridan in the Times (thanks to Sr. Soph):
ISRAEL’S top-secret air raid on Syria in September destroyed a bomb factory assembling warheads fuelled by North Korean plutonium, a leading Israeli nuclear expert has told The Sunday Times.Professor Uzi Even of Tel Aviv University was one of the founders of the Israeli nuclear reactor at Dimona, the source of the Jewish state’s undeclared nuclear arsenal.
“I suspect that it was a plant for processing plutonium, namely, a factory for assembling the bomb,” he said. “I think the DPRK [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] transferred to Syria weapons-grade plutonium in raw form, that is nuggets of easily transported metal in protective cans. I think the shaping and casting of the plutonium was supposed to be in Syria.”
All governments concerned - even the regime in Damascus - have tried to maintain complete secrecy about the raid.

"ISRAEL’S top-secret air raid on Syria in September destroyed a bomb factory assembling warheads fuelled by North Korean plutonium, a leading Israeli nuclear expert has told The Sunday Times."
The fact that an Israeli scientist claims it does not, in and of itself, make it so. There are politics involved here, after all. We need to take all of this with a grain of salt (albeit a very small one).

clearly the Syrians and North Koreans were up to something bad here. Go figure! I'm glad that Israel acted swiftly without consulting the useless institutions of the UN or the IAEA. Not sure why U.S. and Israel have not publicized this more yet though.. I'm sure there is lots of stuff happening behind the scenes. This whole incident could be moot however if Iran develops the bomb instead...

Lets not forget that plutunium has been found IN TRASH DUMPS in Iran too.
This doesn't surprise me at all.. i've known for a long time that Iran and NK are partners in nuclear warhead and ICBM development.
And we still haven't attacked them yet.
I guess our stupid government wants to give Iran plenty of time to increase their arsenel.

Considering that the Syrians are broke and the Iranians have money, wouldn't this make you assume that the Iranians also have weapons-grade Plutonium?

One can tell that the U(seless) N(ations) are in a Bums Rush to check this site out. Israel could easily give them the location. It would not be an Easter Egg Hunt at this point.
Syria, building the big one on the cheap. No fancy fancy Labs and big construction job Bunkers Just some Building somewhere kinda far away from Israel.
Did Syria not respond to the Attack because they were caught with their Wifes pants down in Public? Or because Iran said no thank you.
Syria came to the Summit despite knowing the Golan Heights were not on the agenda
If the Israeli's hit a stock pike of Plutonium, then. in all likely hood, evidence of it is still there.
Israel missed an opportunity to completely isolate Syria if not completely dismantle the Country. It would have been very difficult for the World to decry Israel for taking it to a Country who had been very bellicose, re-arming,(explains the arrival of up-dated Anti-Aircraft Weaponry), along with supporting Iran's Proxies. Suddenly exposed to the realities Syria had something it was never supposed have. while receiving it from another Country everyone says their Fear of, is exactly what they were doing.
Even Arab Country's would be hard pressed to get near them. Just like the last go around.
Given that the Israeli's were ready for a Syrian response, then Israel was prepared to pounce in a manor Syria could not defend against. An aggressive Israeli follow up would have left most of Syria unarmed and dis-functional.
Israel missed one of those moments in History where Leaders of undersized forces take advantage of opportunities. Mainly to vanquish Isolated units of the Enemy when their Main Body is unable to support.
This whole thing was Israel vs. Syria. Any other interference on the part of the Arabs would have brought in the US. Even had Iran backed interference by its Proxies. UNIFIL would have had to act to defend Israel. For maintaining the High Ground, Israel would have let the Proxies of Iran take the blame foe expanding the conflict.
Instead of bold action, we get What, a raid, what raid what site, Who you talking about, there is nothing there, check what out. are you crazy, what are you worried about? In its place we get Men like Mice, scurrying around from Cheese to Cheese never hearing the Inevitable Snap.

I was at first sceptical of the "Axis of Evil" speech, connecting North Korea with ME governments. Maybe the real "Axis" is North Korea, Syria and Iran.

In fact one can condense the "axis of evil" to a simple "Left-Islam" duo.

A bombing of a plutonium assembly plant would/should have left some plutonium unshielded and in the open. Plutonium emits mostly alpha particles, and they don't travel very far. It would be difficult to detect plutonium by satellite; nevertheless, the US knows whether any plutonium was there. Metallic plutonium is warm to the touch, so perhaps infrared imaging would indicate the presence of Plutonium. The relative silence from Washington is interesting.

I, nabi ZK, nabi to the mohametan trolls, he of many self applied accolades, have always considered the possibility that US forces stealthily struck this site with Israel flying around making it look like it was them. Yeah. The nabi loves a good conspiracy theory!

Folks, the genie's out of the bottle. It's not just Iran and Syria, but the Saudis, the Egyptians and others (including non-governmental entities) who are now quietly pursuing their own nuclear programs.
The information revolution has transfigured the world. Anyone who actually believes we can prevent this knowledge from being culled and exploited is living in a fantasy.

Israel need not stop there. They should finish the job and worry about world opinion later.
Better to beg for forgivness than to ask for permission in this case. Oh yes, mates, and Olmert is a cowardly sellout who should be removed from office on the dot and replaced with someone who isn't willing to give away the Israeli nation to hateful, illiterate savages.

The bottles need to be destroyed before the genies are let out. If unsuccessful, at stopping immediately, I fear we are likely to see an increase and record of deaths in the 21 st century. I am projecting the 21`st century death toll at about 600,000,000! This is our last moment to stop it!

It is obvious that the Syrians have WMD. Several of their 'scientists' died while trying to put a chemical weapon on a missile nose, when it blew up. Now Nukes. If we invaded Iraq because Saddam had WMD and was going to use them on his neighbors, then why are we not invading Syria??

Europe seems to wish no involvement. Blind and Dumb on the Issue.
The Egg Timer is ticking without knowing how long it cooks before the ding.
Israel chose not to take advantage of the circumstances.
The Europeans would have found a way to work disproportional force into the equation after 7-10 Days of non stop bombardment. Israeli Ground Forces would not have even left their Forward positions.
The mighty and fearful Syrians would become just another Hapless Victim A paper Tiger if ever there was one.
One would suppose the current leadership of Israel would rather wait for the Arabs to all Attack from all sides, at a time of their own Choosing.

"The Egg Timer is ticking without knowing how long it cooks before the ding."
Where can I find a good egg timer in the U.S. ?
I purchased two last month from two locations and they were both non working junk from China.
Do you think this is a plot of the Red Chinese to keep us asleep when everything explodes ?
Last week it was an Arab nation saving Citibank from collapse will great infusions of worthless U.S. currency everyone on the global markets have begun to unload .
The Moslems are busy buying up our country as we continue to oil the noose around our neck.
I wonder how long before we have to tell Israel we've been bought out by the Arabs and Chinese and they are on their own ?
Thanks Mr. President for pissing away billions and billions and wearing down our military in Iraq so that our enemies would see that the time is ripe to finish us off.
At least the Shiite's of Iran and Iraq are united because of your great wisdom and perception.

Yeah the part about, "“I suspect that it was a plant for processing plutonium,....."
"I suspect" that pretty much takes the teeth out'a this story. But its a start. We haven't really heard much of anything on this.
Why haven't the main stream press jumped all over this story ?

I'm really sorry for going off topic but I need advice.
I’m not sure if this is relevant at all but my father is a contractor in Iraq and my mother lives on her own. I would rather she was safe than not say something.
My mother is a member of a fitness club that she visits almost daily. A Muslim man has visited the club on a few occasions recently and was noted only for his silence, he was not getting involved with the group, though I am not surprised at that, being a new member.
But last night he started a conversation with my mother and another woman about western women deserving rape because of the way they dress (this was in a sauna). The woman retorted that not all men are the same and left. Then he started to talk to my mother. He knew that her husband was in Iraq as a contractor. He said he was either a muscle ripped moron or a drunkard with a Thai wife, obviously he is neither, although as a one time contractor myself I do know a few drunks with foreign wives.
The conversation then continued. I asked my Mum if she felt threatened by him and she said that yes she did somewhat and it was more he was talking at her not to her.
He went on to say he was a doctor in the British Army who had served in Bosnia but he said that he would not serve in Iraq because the Americans are raping tens of thousands of Iraqi women and the media (the beloved MSM) are using stories like the Muhammad Teddy to deflect attention from American crimes.
I know something of the military, and I know he’s not a regular. But I do know that reservist doctors are highly prized, doctors don’t come cheap. If he is TA could he pick and choose assignments?
Then he started about Spain being a Muslim land and that Islam will rule over the Jews and Christians in time. He also mentioned that it was going to kick off here in Britain (I agree). But he was ambiguous and she doesn’t know for sure if he was in her words:
“Scared that it would, or the one to kick it off.”
There was other stuff about 911 being a plot and the world would be a safer place for women under Islamic rule. Apparently rape didn’t take place when Islam ruled the world.
It has disturbed her, she spoke to dad earlier on the net and his first response was calling the police and letting them sort it. I agree but mother doesn’t want to stop going there. She won’t let me go with her because she knows what my response will be.
It isn’t so clear cut. He may just be a knobber, I’m sure some people with small brains think my stance towards the WOTtm is a bit radical. But you will not find me in a sauna with women in swimming costumes banging on about them deserving rape.
Advice please! Mother wants a quite life and dad is far away. Should I report him (personally I’d like to batter him in a quite spot, I’m that angry) and go against mums wishes.

The Other Mert--
First, your mother should always bear in mind that she has a right to be there-- freedom of movement and of association are inalienable rights. It sounds like "Jihadi McCreepy" (if I may nickname him) is trying to cultivate a sort of circular reasoning: You can only be safe under Sharia law because people like him will see to it that you aren't safe until you submit, and then blame you for not submitting if a crime occurs.
If your mother chooses to stay at the club, as she has a right to do, she should do a few thing things: First, she should set up boundaries: Vary her routine and avoid being alone-- always have witnesses. Avoid him, and do not engage in conversations with him. Hopefully he'll take a hint. If not, there's no harm in telling him outright to go away. That's setting up a very clear line, and if he crosses it, you and she have recourse to an increasing number of civil laws, as well as club regulations. No one wants jerks driving away customers.
She should also make others aware of him-- mention him to others in the privacy of women's-only areas, and drop a word here and there to the staff about "that one creepy guy talking about women deserving rape." Being a creep in a gym is not ethnically or religiously specific, so they should have no p.c. qualms about looking into it or asking around.
And if your local laws permit it, carry pepper spray.
Best wishes to you and your mother on this.

Whenever there is such universal silence about a military strike by Israel -that should have been trumpeted by the Islamic world- then the danger is obviously that much greater.
"Too quiet..." means: "Hush!".

Thank you for your advice MarisolJW, it is greatly appreciated.
The matter has been reported and nothing more can be said.
Thank you again for your support.
at December 2, 2007 6:32 PM
The Other Mert -
Perhaps she could allow him to resume the conversation, but with a digital voice recorder in her pocket. After he rants about western women and rape again, the staff and other club members can hear it too.
at December 2, 2007 6:40 PM
The Other Mert,
First of all your mother should never again engage him in conversation. Not even a simple greeting. The best way would be to, when he approaches her again, hand him a note saying that her husband called her and forbade her talking to strangers.
If he keeps on bothering her you could meet him after hours and tell him firmly to leave your mother alone, or you will report him to the police for harrassment, or if necessary take the matters into your own hands.
And, as Marisol suggests, your mom should make the people who run the club aware of a certain strange guy who keeps on talking to women about rape making them very uncomfortable.
Otherwise - excuse me for being so blunt - why don't you ask advice from your local police representative?
cheers,
at December 2, 2007 6:50 PM
My dad has informed the relevant people where he works, and my mum has spoken to the right people here.
Makes me worry though. In all likelihood he's just a political guy, but how can you know for sure?
They have asked that no further details are made public so I'll sign off now.
thomas. h My preferred method of being blunt would see me imprisoned. Mutta is special and needs her sensibilities defending from such scum.

We have a chance to do what we should, but human nature being what it is, it is not in the cards.
We will continue on until someone pushes the button, and only then will all see we had a chance, but it is not in our nature to change course until the writing topples the wall .

Israeli resolve has, on this occasion, set back the time-table of Holocaust Revisted, and postponed for now the onset of World War III; and all the while the World carries on oblivious to the fact.
