Although the Islamic Courts Union -- which held power in Somalia briefly in 2006, long enough to be hailed by the Western press despite its hardline Sharia brutality -- no longer rules there, it is still a force to be reckoned with.
"Somalia PM Seeks Dialogue With Islamists," by Salad Duhul for Associated Press (thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist):
MOGADISHU, Somalia -- Somalia's new prime minister will try to open a dialogue with Islamists to end an insurgency that a human rights group said has killed nearly 6,000 civilians so far this year, officials said Sunday.Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein, who formed his Cabinet on Sunday, has vowed to reconcile the nation as it struggles to contain the insurgency.
"The new prime minister will talk with Islamists and other opponents," presidential spokesman Hussein Mohamed Mohamoud told The Associated Press. "That is the first priority."
Ethiopia came to the aid of Somalia's government last December to rout the Council of Islamic Courts militia. The Islamic group's fighters have since launched an Iraq-style insurgency, and gunbattles, grenade and mortar attacks have decimated this seaside capital.
Numerous and repeated attempts at dialogue between the insurgents and the government have so far yielded no result....

How do you negotiate with someone who wants it all, who won't settle for anything less than total domination over you?

Oh, by all means, open a dialog. The poor devils could use a break. All that insurgency takes it out of one, doesn't it? Give them a break and let them regroup and rearm. Then they can get back to business invigorated by the break and encouraged by the stupidity of an enemy that thought negotiations would do any good.

I would pray that when the Islamist enter the conference room, they are greeted by a Teddy Bear.

I hope the new Somalian PM understands that any agreement that might be reached with these particular adversaries will fall into the domain of mere truce material, not permanent peace. When a Muslim gets the true faith, turning the entire world, not just Somalia, into land governed by Sharia becomes the order of the day.
And all you "moderate" Muslims out there, what say you about this? Oops, I forgot, you're hedging your bets as usual, which is why the non-Muslim world can't count upon you worth diddly squat. Oh, I'm so tired of Islam. All of it.

From the article:
The Islamic group's fighters have since launched an Iraq-style insurgency, and gunbattles, grenade and mortar attacks have decimated this seaside capital
Is this the same Islamic group that the media told us brought "peace and stability" to the region when they conquered it?
By an "Iraq-style insurgency", do they mean that they are getting funding and weaponry from Muslims outside the region? Does it mean that Saudis and Syrians and others are coming in droves to fight in the "insurgency"?

Once again it appears the only way to control such madness is to have an iron fist. Islamania is doing wonders for rehabbing the image of the likes of Mussolini and Saddam Hussein if nothing else.

On the Iraq-style insurgency ... it could possibly mean that they are strapping explosives to their infant children and blowing them up in crowded places ... I guess ... in any event, it is open to interpretation.

History shows that deals with Islamists are always a good idea.

Is any one smart enough to realize that these creatures do not want to talk? One would think that one Muslim would understand another Muslim and know what the problem is. Duh!

Different cultures see negotiation diferently. In the Western tradition we have had the notion of the balance of power. That means sharing. In Confucian civilization equality and egalitarian relationships are not seen as normal; heirarchy is. If you give them something it appears to be tribute.
Islamic Civilization is not interested in sharing power. It is interested in complete and total dominance. Giving them an inch only encourages them. Failure is the only thing that will cause pause. Negotiating is not going to get agreement any more than appeasement did before WW II.

Wafa Sultan said that Muhammad gave detailed instructions on how to behead infidels, apparently when he was committing genocide on a Jewish tribe. Could Robert Spencer or someone else provide a summary, a translation, and a source for those instructions. Apparently modern jihadists follow those instructions closely.
By the way, thanks to Robert Spencer for your courageous work.
