Muslim cleric demands apology from Bangladesh author

Striking the offending passage was not enough.

Syed Ahmed Bukhari has not hesitated in the past to issue statements that appear to be calling upon Muslims to commit acts of violence.

From AFP (thanks to Twostellas):

NEW DELHI - CONTROVERSIAL Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen, who is in hiding in India after protests by Muslims, must apologise for her 'anti-Islamic' writings, a prominent Indian Muslim cleric said on Monday.

The 45-year-old writer, who fled Bangladesh in 1994, is currently living in an undisclosed location near New Delhi after being forced to leave the eastern Indian city of Kolkata last month following violent protests.

Indian Muslims will 'not tolerate the infamous authoress Taslima Nasreen on the Indian soil' unless she apologised, Syed Ahmed Bukhari, chief cleric of New Delhi's 17th-century Jama Masjid mosque, said in a statement.

'India is a democratic nation and the constitution here neither does permit any citizen nor allow any foreign national to be irreverent to the tenets of any religion,' the cleric said.

'The entire responsibility of the consequences shall rest upon the government of India,' Mr Bukhari warned.

So she must apologize for accusing Islam of being violent and intolerant or will face death?

One hopes Taslima appreciates the fact that she is seen as a symbol of courage throughout the non-Muslim world...and that she won't cave in to this blackmail.

That's so it. Muslims have NO sense of irony. I remember a column I read by Charles Krauthammer in Sept. '06 titled, "Irony is Islam proving pope right." About the reference to the Christian Emperor's quotation about Islam, and the enraged Muslims' calls for the Pope's death!

HOW have we let these Barbarians become so powerful that they feel they can behave in the barbaric ways they do, with no consequences?

"HOW have we let these Barbarians become so powerful that they feel they can behave in the barbaric ways they do, with no consequences?"

All in the name of diversity. We no longer feel our culture is better so therefore we must put up with it. The sad part is that Islam does feel its better and will fight to the death to advance it.

This cleric is a joker fraud living on Saudi and Indian congress charities. The problem is that world over non-Muslim democratic countries are trying to adjust these Muslims into the existing democratic set-ups which is an erroneous fatalistic belief. They just can not adjust with democratic set up for long. The place where this mosque is located in Delhi is a Muslim majority slum like area and during the wars with Pakistan in 1965,1971 the Indian govt. used to cut off their area electricity during the nights because there used to be air raid sirens in the night and these Muslims used to switch on and flash lights. At that time this clerics father also used to be alive. They are all notoriously anti Indian. He is not a true cleric either. The true clerics are in Arab countries. He is a fake but enjoying life like so many others. Not a single cleric of Arabian countries have given any call. Its only these fakes that are more dangerous because they live in democratic countries. It is the countries like Saudi that they know how to handle these clerics. In those countries they remain disciplined because of the 'stick'. They are now holding the whole world to ransom. Their end is near. They are like 'jackals' who run towards cities when gone mad. They will end up like 'rabid dogs'.

from the article: 'India is a democratic nation and the constitution here neither does permit any citizen nor allow any foreign national to be irreverent to the tenets of any religion,' the cleric said.

That is, it is not allowed to be irreverent to Islam. In India, it is very common to be irreverent against Hinduism, to make all kind of false claims against Hinduism. You'll have no problems in doing that, on the contrary, for most people, it is a wise career move. (Think of Marxist and Islamic apologist historians like Romila Thapar). It's only Islam that demands more respect.

Mad Hungarian DEMANDS apology from entire islamic world!!

That would be a great name for an article.

I shall declare a fatwa of 40 "pimp slaps" for each and every muslim until financial restitution is made to me and every non-muslim in the world for the past 13 centuries of murder and mayhem.

I don't like where this is heading...

Why are not the Presidential candidates rushing to invite Taslima Nasreen to meet with them? For that matter, why has not one of those candidates publicly deplored the difficulties of Ayaan Hirsi Ali in obtaining protection, and called for such protection to be offered by the American government, as part of its "determination to thwart all those who use violence to promote Jihad."

Why the silence?

Other things to worry about, like Darwin, or the "definition" of torture, or taxes, or who's the better family man (or woman), who's the declared truer-bluer or truest-bluest American, in thought, and word, and deed. That's it? That's the goddam election?

This Muslim cleric, Syed Ahmed Bukhari, is the chief cleric of New Delhi's Jama Masjid, India's largest mosque. This man seems to have quite a history of making inflaming, pro-Islamist statements, I found these instances:

He wished that the police would not prevent Hindu-Muslim riots and said:
"We will look after ourselves. Let there be a direct confrontation between communal forces. The world will witness the battle, but let the police forces keep out."
http://www.bharatvani.org/books/ayodhya/ch11.htm

The historian K.S. Lal writes that this imam already delivered Islamist sermons in 1992:

In the Delhi Jama Masjid Prime Minister V.P. Singh of the 'Social justice' fame paid a visit to the Shahi Imam, Syed Abdulla Bukhari. His son Syed Ahmad Bukhari, the Naib Imam, has delivered venomous Friday sermons especially in the wake of the destruction of the disputed Babri structure at Ayodhya in December 1992. A fiery speech was made in early January 1993. The police naturally charged him with sedition and inflaming communal passions by his anti-national diatribe. The police filed the charge-sheet without arresting the Naib imam on the ground that it would cause a law and order problem. Pampered by the Prime Ministers, these imams have developed a clout. The court issued summons and later on non-bailable warrants against the accused, but Ahmad Bukhari obtained a stay on the proceedings from the High Court.

Even while Ahmad Bukhari's plea is pending in the High Court, the secular Government headed by H.D. Deve Gowda instructed the Delhi Lieutenant Governor to move the court for the withdrawal of the case against the Naib imam on the plea that dropping of sedition charge against him would help create a peaceful atmosphere in society. This step so alarmed the Hindus living in the Jama Masjid area that one Shyam Lal resident of Sita Ram Bazar and four others in his vicinity, moved an application in the court of the Metropolitan Magistrate opposing the withdrawal of the case. Shyam Lal pleaded that the people living in the area were terribly scared following the speech of Ahmad Bukhari and therefore the case should not be dropped against the Naib imam.

And this is what the Indian governement supports:
Prime Minister V.P. Singh earmarked 5 million Rupees for the beautification of the Jama Masjid in Delhi, run by Singh's ally Imam Bukhari.

(I posted this before, but for some reason it didn't get through.)

"India is a democratic nation and the constitution here neither does permit any citizen nor allow any foreign national to be irreverent to the tenets of any religion," the cleric said.

Yeah right! The same fork-tongued idiot praised the destruction of Bamiyan Buddha in Afghanistan. Where was his respect for Buddhism then? In the past, he has made many inflamatory statements but has been coddled by successive governments that totally lacked any spine. He should have been locked up on sedition charges long ago but has been treated with kid gloves to maintain "communal harmony". As far as this Indian is concerned, communal harmony is a two way street. You can't be tolerant towards the intolerant. Any appeasement only emboldens these camel humpers. I will make it a point to piss facing Mecca everytime.

"India is a democratic nation and the constitution here neither does permit any citizen nor allow any foreign national to be irreverent to the tenets of any religion," the cleric said.

Just WHO is he to say this? He doesn't think of himself as an Indian citizen first, but talks as if he's running the country. These imams are the ONLY problem - everywhere. Send them back to where they came from.

If anything happens to Ms. Nasreen, this foul cleric should be arrested and tried for aiding and abetting. Even without anything happening, he should be arrested and jailed for inciting a crime.
Likewise, any of these imams or islamic authorities that issue fatwads calling for the death of a writer or artist or film-maker or anyone else should have warrants issues for their arrest for assault and inciting violence. Obviously as long as they stay holed up in Iran or Pakistan or some other islamic pesthole the warrant won't be served; but as soon as they set foot in a civilized country they should be seized and extradited to the country issuing the warrant.

It was wrong of Taslima to have struck off the supposedly offending passages from her book.

As usual appeasing a Muslim is like feeding a crocodile.

Now the Muslims are asking for her apology. Next it will be a more ghastly demand... who knows..

"...Syed Ahmed Bukhari has not hesitated in the past to issue statements that appear to be calling upon Muslims to commit acts of violence..."

...as is the case for most Muslim clerics.....they openly call for violence...and they have been secretly taped inside mosques calling for violence.....

Well, we all knew her editing wouldn't be sufficient. This is just proof, and yes, it is just like feeding a crocodile.
