Yet another imam misunderstands the peaceful teachings of Islam, while the most prominent peaceful Muslims direct their efforts not at making sure that Muslims do not misunderstand Islam in this way, but at making sure that non-Muslims don't notice that so many Muslims are misunderstanding it. "Milan imam convicted for promoting jihad," from Reuters (thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist):
MILAN, Dec 20 (Reuters) - A Muslim cleric who preaches at a Milan mosque and 10 other people were convicted on Thursday of being part of a group that promotes jihad. The Milan court sentenced Abu Imad to three years and eight months in prison under anti-terrorism statutes drafted before Sept. 11 that are weaker than those currently in place.
The group was accused of promoting jihad and recruiting potential suicide bombers.
A source at the Milan's prosecutors' office said however investigators did not believe Imad was still a threat and was allowed to remain free pending an appeal.
Sentences for the other accused ranged from two to 10 years in prison.
Abu Imad preaches at the Viale Jenner mosque in Milan, which the United States once accused of being a European logistics base for al Qaeda.

"A source at the Milan's prosecutors' office said however investigators did not believe Imad was still a threat and was allowed to remain free pending an appeal."
-- from the article above
Why would he not be a permanent threat? Does he still believe in the duty of Jihad? Is he not ready, willing, and able to participate directly to fulfill that duty? Has he had a change of heart and of mind, or was he merely caught? Why let him out at all? He would still have to be watched, at great expense. Much easier to watch him when he is a jail cell.
The case is referred to in Italian newspapers as about the "Viale Jenner mosque." Italians like to name streets not just after artists, musicians, and statesmen, but also scientists. Edward Jenner, an Englishman, was the first to discover the efficacy of vaccinations against smallpox (and the coiner of the term "vaccination"). I used to know someone who lived on Via Spallanzani in Rome (see "Lorenzo Spallanzani"). There are also streets or parks named after others -- Galileo comes to mind. No doubt after her death Rita Levi-Montalcino will be memorialized in a park or galleria. But as Viale Jenner shows, when it comes to great men memorialized in toponyms, Italians in particularare generous to foreigners. such as Jenner. He may have been born in Gloucestershire and never left England. But it didn't matter to those who were naming streets in Milan.
And other Western countries the prractice is the same. No one finds it strange to honor, in the naming of streets and avenues and boulevards, scientists from everywhere. Even the benighted United States, so criticised for its mental isolationism, does so. Those who have visited Hospital Row in Boston, or Harvard Medical School, know that many of the main buildings are to be found on what is pleasingly called (anomalous word-order and all) "Avenue Louis Pasteur."
But go anywhere in the grim world of Islam, and you will never find a single a single place named after a non-Muslim. No Viale Jenners. No Avenue Louis Pasteurs. No Planck Plazas, and certainly nothing named after Einstein, Feynman, Landau, Weinberg or a hundred others who are not to be mentioned. And I doubt if one could find even a single spot, in all of Pakistan, named after Abdus Salam, even though he is the only person of Pakistani origin ever to have won a Nobel Prize, because Abdus Salam is not a full-fledged Muslim but, officially at least (unofficially at least he surely does not think of himself, if he ever did, as a Muslim), an Ahmadi and therefore, on official Pakistani documents, Not A Muslim.
In the world of Islam, there are no Viale Jenners or Via Spallanzanis. There are no Avenues Louis Pasteur. There is no Ulitsa Akademika Anokhina, no Max Planck Institute. No, there is none of that.
But what is most important goes beyond the naming of streets, rues, vias, calles, and is what what this posting has been leading up to: there are no Muslim Pasteurs, Spallanzanis, Jenners, Max Plancks, Levi-Montalcinis, Weinbergs, von Neumanns, and so on, and there haven't been for a thousand years, not since the Christians and Jews and Zoroastrian populations in the lands conquered by Islam were reduced in size, and influence, and power, so that "Islamic civilization" was, in truth, thoroughly Islamized, which brought to an end the very brief, and very limited, "high Islamic civilization" that history-haunted Muslims like so much to repair to, for their consolation, amidst what they dimly recognize as their present failures and hopelessness, intellectual failures in no way made more endurable, and possibly made even less so, by the fact of that oil manna, which they have done nothing to deserve, and which they have put to such unimpressive and indeed, often disturbing, use.

Funny, when we westerners and non-muslims engage in inner struggle, we come out enlightened, generally since some are still searching. But it has become quite obvious than if islam engages in any inner struggle bloodshed seems to be the answer. I propose that islam has no soul, or at least suppresses the soul. For, regardless of belief, if one has a soul and engages in an "inner struggle" the logical conclusion leads to a peaceful life. They also show tremendous regret if they engaged in illegal activity. I see none of this from islam. All I see is hate, hate, and to make sure it sticks, hate.

Thx, Hugh. A series of essays by Fjordman appeared a couple weeks back on Ali Sina's faith freedom international, analyzing the Muslim contributions to science. He concluded that while there were outstanding individuals, the developments tended not to be absorbed and generalized into society. The exception is that of weapons technology, which was eagerly adopted. Fjordman concluded that then, as now, Muslims were interested in learning how to attack and kill people of other faiths.

Pelayo,
Tancredo not only dropped out, he endorsed Mitt Romney, as if he really believes that Romney is serious about stopping illegal immigration or protecting this country from terrorism.
Word is Tancredo wants to run for the Senate. Question is: why did he leave everyone hanging for so long? When he announced he was leaving the House, it looked like he was serious about the race, but it turns out he was only toying with us.
Second question: why is Iowa being allowed to decide who the candidates will be? Tancredo didn't get over 6% among Iowans, so he's calling it quits.

You know something? It's probably a good thing all these Islamaniacs are "misunderstanding" the Koran. If they ever get their act together and understand it the way I did we'll all be dead in no time flat. Their "ignorance" has kept us alive so far-we can only hope it continues.
