"An explosive device fashioned from a 60-millimetre mortar round and ball bearings attached to a timing device were recovered from his room."
Of course, Al-Azhar's Sheikh Mohammed Sayyid Tantawi insists this is all a mistake. (Getting caught usually is.) An update on this story. "Philippines 'bomb plotter' Islamic envoy: Egypt cleric," from Agence France-Presse:
CAIRO (AFP) - An Egyptian man held in the Philippines for allegedly plotting a Christmas bomb attack is an envoy of Sunni Islam's highest seat of learning who was arrested by mistake, the insitution's grand imam said on Sunday.
Al-Azhar's Sheikh Mohammed Sayyid Tantawi told Egypt's official MENA news agency that he was personally following up the case of Sheikh Mohammed al-Sayyid Ahmed Mussa who was arrested by police in the Philippines on Tuesday.
Tantawi aide Sheikh Abdel Fattah Allam said he expected Sheikh Mussa to be released on bail "in the next few hours".
"The envoys of Al-Azhar abroad are chosen according to strict criteria to encourage moderation in Islam and the renunciation of violence and terrorism," he added.
The religious affairs ministry issued a statement saying that Sheikh Mussa was being well treated but that there were contacts at the highest level between the two governments to try to secure his release.
"Sheikh Mussa is a man of faith who represents a prestigious religious institution," the ministry said.
"There are 29 Al-Azhar envoys in the Philippines teaching Arabic language and Islamic religion in accordance with an agreement between Cairo and Manila," he added.
Mussa, identified by Philippine police as Mohamad Sayed, was arrested during a raid on a flat in the Majad Islamic School in the southern city of Cotabato.
An explosive device fashioned from a 60-millimetre mortar round and ball bearings attached to a timing device were recovered from his room.
Philippine police said the Egyptian was captured after surveillance and that intelligence reports suggested he planned to detonate the bomb at an undisclosed location in the city on Christmas Day.
Among the items they said were recovered from his room was a booklet on the organisation of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), a rebel group that has been fighting to set up an Islamic state in the southern Philippines.
Tantawi said he hoped Mussa would be released "within the coming couple of days" and that the arrest was a mistake.

'There are 29 Al-Azhar envoys in the Philippines

About time Gloria read the small print or Koran-hopefully both. Mistakes do happen, think the mistake here is to trust Al- Azhar whose teachers
have been linked to Jihad activities around the
world.

"Sheikh Mussa is a man of faith who represents a prestigious religious institution," the ministry said.
Of course he is. That is why he has explosive devices in his room. He is there to get the message across that Islam is a blast. Especially on the Infidel's Christmas Day.
The only "mistake" would be to let him go, never mind what Tantawi says, and keep a close watch on the other 28 "peaceful" messengers.

First: Merry Xmas to all of you.
Then ot:
Getting beaten and threatened by the hotel stuff
As the hotel guests asked our help, our reporters went immediately there. And indeed, at least seven tourists had been wounded in a beating. The hotel management and the stuff hit around wildly, because a young German had allegedly ‘molested a Turkish woman on the dancing floor.
Ralf Benker tells the whole story: “They went against the children with stocks and belts, against the young boys.” “And the hotel manager punched me immediately in the face.” “And I thought that they won’t hit me. I am a grown up man. They hit me straight in my face.” “One hit me on the head” (the woman in pink). “They threw everything at me: ashtrays, glasses, everything.”
These are the bloody remains of their Turkish holiday. The 16 year old Sina had to be treated in the hospital.
It was about midnight. The two young boys were dancing near a Turkish woman in the hotel disco. An acquaintance and an employee of the hotel owner Firad Esli (?) , who want to remain unrecognized, says: “The boy touched her by chance on her back. Therefore asked the hotel owner to a waiter kick the German boy.”
German boy: “he hit me with the fist in my face”.
The boys tried immediately to defense themselves, the situation escalates.
“The security entered and started hitting.” Girl in green.
The hotel tells us that the two German boys had molested the Turkish woman on the dancing floor. Then it got into a chaos and uproar. This employee says, as he tried to get some tourists into safety, the hotel owner asked him, that he should hit the tourists too.
“What are you doing” asked he. “Why don’t you hit them? You work for me.“ Boy in green. Because he refused to hit them he got fired. The hotel denies it.
But several tourist felt in the time following the beating threatened by the hotel manager.
“’At the departure you will get problems’ told he. He put his hands akinbow and threatened we get problems if we go to the police.” Fair haired lady.
After that none of the involved dared to report the police. At our inquiry said the hotel nothing.
The involved travel agencies Alltours and Ögertours want to say nothing in front of our cameras, but ATT apologized in letters and offered 300 Euro per person. Some want nevertheless to charge in the court, although the wounds are already healing, because that, what they experienced, has nothing to do with pure fun, as the catalogue has advertised it.

"The envoys of Al-Azhar abroad are chosen according to strict criteria to encourage moderation in Islam and the renunciation of violence and terrorism,"
Didn't they mean "reunification"
Makes more sense coming from such a prestigious vipers pit dedicated to spreading the advantages of anti-Semitism and the destruction of Israel.
Envoys, Mo's boys, whatever you call them the truth still remains …… THEY ARE PURVEYORS OF HATE.

OT, but in case I don't get a chance tomorrow:
To our fearless leader, Lord Robert,
To the ever erudite Sir Hugh,
To the deft deleter, Lady Marisol,
And to all the brave crusaders, near and far, East and West, who gather here to learn about and discuss the greatest threat to our civilization -
MERRY CHRISTMAS! Hope you all have a great one.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Phillipine Gov't just give the muslims their own island in exchange for peace? That was like what? Three weeks ago?
Yeah, that worked.
The hotel tells us that the two German boys had molested the Turkish woman on the dancing floor. What was a muslim woman doing on a dance floor? Shouldn't she be taken out and publically lashed?

Thanks for the greeting, but Christ is not an "X." It's Merry Christmas, nothing else.
And a Merry Christmas to you as well!

It's those virgins again. What do you think the state of Islam would be today, without the promise of 72 virgins? Next to the trick of ilah being Allah, and Mohammad his messenger, the second most powerful trick was the whole bit about Paradise and the fab 72. Celestial prostitution. You die in Allah cause and Allah will reward you...with what? Sex and booze and a soft couch, Oh yeah, and boys pure as pearls to feed you grapes. Young, old, literate, illiterate, educated, uneducated, no matter what their status, they all share belief in this promise.
Of course this is irrational, but Islam is irrational. It does not surprise me that Mussa had a bomb in close proximity. Of course this is all a mistake. The bomb was planted to make he, and Islam look bad...sure...

For those who may not have yet read Mark Steyn's "America Alone," I highly recommend it.
I knew he had something to say after reading a few pages when I read: "September 11, 2001 was not the day everything changed. It was the day that showed how much everything had already changed."
Instead of improving their economy, the Saudis have been using the oil money to fund the export of Islamic Jihad. Billions upon billions. I hope no one is surprised to read about this "moderate" jihadi in the Phillipines. We ain't seen nuthin' yet.
When a country (USA) is funding both sides of a war, how is it to win? Each time we buy gas for a tank, we buy an anti-tank round for the other side.
As for "moderate muslims" Steyne argues "Why should they stand up against Jihad?" Who is going to support them? Just take a look at what happens to people who stand up against Islam. They are sued, or murdered, or branded Islamophobic, racist bigots. What part of our government stands up against Islam or supports those who do? Even today our politicians still pander to Islam. Can you spell C-A-I-R? Much easier and safer for "moderates" to keep their heads down because they know that while there are other moderate muslims, there is no moderate Islam.
Steyn has a lot to say about "moderates."
If you find yourself sometimes without words when trying to explain to people why the "war on terror" isn't just a bumper sticker, and why it truly is more of a threat than "global warming," Steyn will give you a solid base on which to stand. I realize that many of the regular posters here do not find themselves without words on this topic, but many of the rest of us do find it difficult to respond on-the-fly with specific facts to bolster our opinions.
Just yesterday we met a fellow at a Christmas party who was still convinced that the Bush administration was complicit in the bringing down of the World Trade Center buildings with explosives on 9-11. He had been convinced of this by a speaker who showed a presentation on DVD and gave a talk, saying that he was "head of security" at the WTC. Scary. Very scary.

Well, I just finished my Christmas shopping!
I ordered a 10-pack of "Defeat Jihad/JihadWatch.org" bumper stickers available to order on the left side of this site.
When they arrive, I'll put one on my own vehicle and send the others' to friends!
Only $20.00 for a priceless message...

Christmas---bah humbug...I'm just kidding.
I hope Santa brings all you JW/DW commenter's everything you want, and everything you deserve as well...GULP...Just kidding...And speaking of Santa, I am going to stay up all night, and try to catch him. I want to talk to that dude, and I want straight answers. When I was six, I sat on Santa's lap and told him I wanted a little red wagon. He said he would bring one. Well what I really got was some tinker toys, and some socks. Another time I asked for a train set, and got some tinker toys and socks. When I was twelve, a Santa in a Mall said I was in line for a bicycle, what I really got was tinker toys and socks. I still have one pair of the socks, they are a little ragged but wearable. I also have a 10,000 piece tinker toy set I have gathered over the years. I want to make Santa a deal, I want to trade all those tinker toys in on a new car.
But I know how this goes. The illusive chubby guy will elude me once again, and what I can expect under the tree is more socks and tinker toys.
I have tried to lure him with cookies and milk
with no results. This year I will try beer.
No telling what he might agree to if I get him drunk...

Darcy,
Yes, two of us enlightened the fellow that the conspiracy theories had already been thoroughly debunked by serious inquiries and pointed out that OBL and various other participants took full credit for the attack.
He remained unconvinced and said he'd love to discuss it more, but that he had to leave...
By the way, the guy was American, 50 yrs old, very polite, and didn't seem to be a left-wing nut job.
What I find bizarre is that while many muslims loudly and vociferously celebrate the downing of the twin towers as a monumental victory for muslims, in the same breath they say that it was the Jews who brought the towers down.

I'm glad to hear you responded to him, cumulusnine. A lot of people don't have the backbone to stand up to the Politically Correct.
Gee, I wonder why he suddenly had to leave!

Oh jeez, I know people that actually try to tell me that 9/11 was an "inside job". These are intelligent people but all they hear are snippets and don't do any investigation on their own. They just repeat the absurd stories they've heard. I've made it a point to sit them down and let them know it's a crock. I even show them videos, lol. Of course, these are the same people that think that man landing on the moon was staged. Say no more....
A very Merry Christmas to all of you. May 2008 bring us satisfaction ;o)

There are programs on Cable all the time showing Construction Company"s imploding buildings. There has never been one where they started from the top.
Rosie and her type are simply MORONS. If someone really wanted to create a calamity with the Twin Towers, they would have blown out half the supports on one side of the Buildings. Just like you would with a Tree. A couple of Months work at best with no one being the wiser.
Some people are just stupid beyond belief. No wonder we have the problems we have, dealing with our problems.

Flowerknife, yes, they blow out the bottom floor and let the building collapse in on itself. But I remember one video from many years ago where the demolition company was going to destroy a large multi-story warehouse. The exterior walls and interior partitions had already been removed, and only the reinforced concrete framework remained. They set off the charges, and -- Boom -- the whole structure simply dropped one floor! Hilarious! They had to do it over again, with the timing of the charges slightly staggered.

Ebonystone, I must have missed that one,But have seen a few Bridges remain standing.
Given the inverted nature of Islam, is it any wonder they started from the top?
If it really an "inside job". why did the New York Slimes not report about it before the fact.
