Jihadists firing from inside mosque injure two

Expect American Muslim spokesmen such as Ibrahim Hooper and Salam Al-Marayati to condemn forthwith this abuse of a holy place. Gentlemen? "Pakistani militant among 3 killed in J&K," from Rediff (thanks to Twostellas):

A Pakistani militant belonging to the Lashkar-e-Tayiba outfit was among three killed in two separate encounters on Sunday in Jammu and Kashmir, where three militants remain holed up in a mosque.

The militants were holed up inside a mosque at Palnoo village in Kulgam district after army troops launched a search operation in the village following specific information about the presence of miltants, a defence spokesman said.

He said two persons, including a jawan, were injured in the initial firing by militants from inside the mosque.

However, the troops exercised restraint and did not return fire keeping in mind the sanctity of the place of worship and safety of the people.

Moslems seem to have a thing about holes. The umpteenth Imam is at the bottom of a well, Benny Laden is hiding in a cave, and mosques are places to "hole up."

"However, the troops exercised restraint and did not return fire keeping in mind the . . . and safety of the people."

Yes, they probably realize that so much ammo and so many explosives are stored in "the place of worship" that a full-fledged assault might set it all off, blowing up half the town.

A call to prayers? I thought there was no compulsion to Islam.

A Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year to Robert, Hugh and Marisol and all the posters at JW/DW.

No soldier who has served in Iraq would find anything unusual about this. Mosques are routinely used by Muslim fighters. The "Palestinians" famously seized the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, ate the food of the terrified priests, vandalized and destroyed Christian artifact and vestments while the Israeli soldiers carefully remained on the perimeter of the church, but did not attempt to enter for fear that in the ensuing fighting more damage might be done. It was the Israelis who werre vilified in the world's press for "laying siege" to the church; the "Palestinian" "fighters" -- who topped off their performance by defecating everywhere inside the church, receuved hardly any criticism at all.

Par for the intolerable course.

A Merry Christmas to all!

Somewhat unrelated - in India, Narendra Modi - that country's leading anti-Islamic voice, wins big in Gujarat, where some were predicting an upset, and is now being seen as a potential future BJP candidate for Prime Minister. If that happens, he'd certainly be an improvement over everyone else.

Western foreign offices and State Departments have banned him from travelling to Western countries, even while they roll the red carpets for Ahmadinejad and Musharraf. Not that it matters to Modi - when he has hosts in these countries that want him present, he generally appears by video-conference, thereby neatly side-stepping the CAIRs of the world that successfully lobbied to keep him out.
