They planted a string of bombs near entertainment venues. Now, what kind of "separatist rebels" would do that? Well, Colonel Prabphan Meemongkon tells us in paragraph 3 that they are "militants." In paragraph 4 we find out that this happened in a "Muslim-majority region," and in paragraph 9 we learn that the Thai South was previously "an ethnic Malay sultanate."
Could this be an Islamic jihad, based on the Islamic principle that "Islam must dominate, and not be dominated," and that Muslims must not, when they have the strength to overturn it, accept rule by the kuffar? Only an attentive and informed reader might come to that understanding from this AFP story, which is typical of coverage of the Thai jihad (except that it doesn't use the word "restive"). It's just a separatist uprising, you see. Why Muslims in Thailand would want to separate from the rest of Thailand is unexplained -- that's irrelevant. It's just a separatist uprising. Move along.

NARATHIWAT, Thailand (AFP) — A string of bombs planted by suspected separatist rebels rocked Thailand's troubled south Monday, killing one person and injuring dozens near the Malaysian border, police said.Explosives planted at entertainment venues across Sun Ngai Kolok town in Narathiwat province wounded 27 people in the early hours of Monday, two of them seriously, police said.
"It was likely done by militants who target innocent people during new year," local police chief Colonel Prabphan Meemongkon told AFP.
He said police managed to defuse one bomb at a hotel in the Muslim-majority region, where rebels are waging a bloody battle for a separate state, but five devices struck two other hotels nearby.
The first blasts hit at about 12:40 am Monday (1740 GMT Sunday), sending people fleeing into a hotel car park, where another bomb was hidden.
A police officer in Narathiwat said that explosives had been packed into cigarette packets, which were planted inside a hotel disco.
Another blast hit a hotel karaoke bar, he said.
Later in nearby Yala province, one person was killed and four were injured when a bomb hidden in a motorcycle exploded outside a restaurant, police said.
More than 2,800 people have been killed in four years of separatist unrest in Thailand's south, an ethnic Malay sultanate until Buddhist Thailand annexed it a century ago, provoking decades of tension....

Robert, where is the Islamic teaching that Islam must dominate over any territory once controlled by Muslims? I've often seen you reference it in reference to Israel and other places, but don't recall seeing the evidence from Islamic texts.

The MSM style book:
1) combine any two: restive, radical, rebel, reactionary, e.g. "rebel radicals"
2) add, as needed, any one: insurgent, fighters, militant, ethnic, e.g. "restive ethnic rebels"
3) but NEVER use any of the above in the same sentence with: Moslem, Islamic, or Mohammad.

Surely the moderate Muslims in the region will not tolerate the hijacking of their religion by a tiny minority of fanatics who misunderstand Islam -- and so, quickly the rebels will be rooted out and turned over to the authorities.
Or perhaps, I suppose it's possible, just maybe, Muslim indignation will only be directed at those who report such stories ... because ... well, islamophobia ... yea that's it ... islamophobia is the problem.

Yeah, the other night I watched a documentary on Al Bebeeceera about the 1947 separation between India and Pakistan.
'In 1947, tensions betweeen Hindu's, Sikhs & Moslems were boiling over...' the moderator told us. I'll tell you how:
A Sikh who was there and escaped with his life said " the Muslims were ganging up around the mosques and started killing and raping every non-muslim they could get hold of, burn our businesses etc.etc. We used to hide in certain buildings and on roof-tops where we believed we were safe'...
Again, little is known about this ongoing jihad against India. Disinformation, stupidity in the form of PC, ignorance and cowardice play a big role in the way we treat this disease called Islam.
Only the truth will set us free. And the Muhammedan's on another jihad rampage....

Note, in the final paragraph, the line " in Thailand's south, an ethnic Malay sultanate until Buddhist Thailand annexed it a century ago, provoking decades of tension....". This would be more honest and informative if it were written "a Malay Muslim sultanate until Buddhist Thailand annexed it..", but even more informative if, after the words 'Malay Muslim Sultanate', there were an extra sentence telling us exactly when this particular region BECAME Muslim, and what it was, ethnically and religiously, prior to its Islamisation.
I haven't had a chance to do a lot of research, but as far as I can see, this region was originally animist, Hindu and Buddhist - in other words, ideologically perfectly compatible with the rest of what is now 'Thailand' - UNTIL the Muslims seized control of it, doubtless by the usual combination of trickery, fraud, bribery and violence, during what we call the 'middle ages' - I think in the 13th or the 15th century AD, does someone here know the details?
I would bet my bottom dollar that its original 'annexation' by Thailand took place under circumstances rather similar to the 'annexation' of portions of the land of Israel by the Franks during the early middle ages: that is, the Infidels got sick and tired of being attacked without provocation by a neighbouring Islamised society, marched in and took it over, placing it Under New Management. Unfortunately, if such annexation is not quickly followed by wholesale and resolute deprogramming of the general mass of conquered Muslims - or, as in Spain, a wholesale expulsion of said Muslims, mass deprogramming having proven impracticable - the annexing power soon faces an Enemy Within.
Islam is not a race, it is a belief system. To be 'ethnic Malay' was not always and everywhere, since the beginning, synonymous with being 'Muslim' - it has only BECOME so, after the Malays were suckered into Islam during the Middle Ages.

According to Bat Ye'or (who words it "Islam surmounts, not surmounted), this is in a hadith. ("Islam and Dhimmitude: Where Civilization Collide, p. 329) Ye'or gives no citation, however.
See also Qur'an 4:141 --
"... and Allah will not grant to the disbelivers any way (of success) against the believers."
