Note the religious nature of the appeal. It is the center of what he is saying, and it is the one element of his remarks that politically correct analysts would have us ignore. "'If it was jihad then, it's jihad now,'" by Colin Freeze in the Globe and Mail (thanks to all who sent this in):
A former Pakistani intelligence officer says he has a message for Canadian and NATO forces in Afghanistan: “Ultimately you will lose,” he told me a phone interview. “You are not bringing any peace here."Khalid Khawaja, an English-speaking ex-spy, spoke from Lahore after I called him from Kanadhar, where I am an embedded journalist with the Canadian Forces. The idea was to try to suss out the views of a known extremist, one who might put regional events in a different kind of perspective.
“In [1980s] Afghanistan, when the Russians attacked, the Canadians and Americans and Europeans supported the jihad against the Russians,” Mr. Khawaja said. Foreign policies and foreign armies may shift over time, he said, but real Muslims stand firm.
"Our religion has not changed," he said. “If it was jihad then, it is jihad now.”
[...]
Mr. Khawaja upholds that the world is divided into two: Pakistan’s friends and Pakistan’s foes.
Who are the foes? The "Americans are enemies of Afghanistan and they are enemies of Pakistan,” he said. “They are using even the Canadians now. And for what?”
Who are Pakistan's defenders?
"Topmost," he says, is Pakistan's nuclear arsenal. And the nukes, he said, are closely followed by:
2. The Army.
3. The ISI / intelligence
4. The "mujahedeen"
5. The Taliban
6. Insurgents in the tribal areas.
Mr. Khawaja doesn't appear to be saying that all these entities and the people that control them are necessarily in cahoots and conspiring together. Rather, they amount to powerful forces with common interests that Pakistan can steer and benefit from.
He makes no mention of al-Qaeda, per se. For him, there is no such entity. “Where is al Qaeda?” he asked rhetorically. “I have not met somebody who says ‘I am al Qaeda.’ They never used this word.” He describes the Arab fundamentalist fighters he knows, as “mujahedeen,” or literally Islamic holy warriors.
[...]
Mr. Khawaja concedes that Taliban rule had some unfortunate glitches. “Mullah Omar’s style, his technique – I can differ with him,” he said. But he adds that at least the mullah tried to rule by the Koran, he said, which is important. "As Muslims we claim that we will obey God and the Prophet.”
Other governments, he complains, including the ones run by Hamid Karzai and Pervez Musharraf, place themselves above God’s law.
“Musharraf speaks against the beard and calls himself Muslim? This is wrong,” said Mr. Khawaja. No fan of Karzai, he still has some former friends sitting in the Afghanistan government. He complains his power hungry warlords have sold out to become “stooges” of the Americans....

Let's see the politicians suck on this gem...
“Whether you are in ISI or the Army, the feeling is the same,” Mr. Khawaja said. “In their hearts, everybody hates Americans."

"Our religion has not changed. If it was jihad then, it is jihad now."
I think the sad truth is that the region is headed for a nuclear holocaust. It was an evil day when the Arab-Persian-Muslim invaders showed up in Greater India (which includes Pakistan and Bangladesh) and destroyed the indigenous Hindu culture. The entire Greater India would be better off today if it were all Hindu. I'm afraid the people in Pakistan have bad Karma since they bow to the gas-station of their conquerors.

Why are we giving them millions of dollars and millions of dollars of training and equipment?

And that is why we will not succeed in our task of bringing liberal democracy to the Muslim world. If they want shari'a then let them have it. The only compromise I agree is the one proposed by PMK.

Khwaza is right in army being defenders of Islam, just see its motto:
"Iman, Taqwa, Jihad fi Sabilillah". Translated into English, it means "Faith, Piety, to strive in the path of Allah". (from wikipedia article for Pakistan Army)

Now will somebody PLEASE present this article to the US State Department, the EU, the MSM, George W. Bush and Condi Rice, the ACLU, the US Democratic Party, and the university faculties of the western democracies and/or wherever else the denial mentality has run rampant and permitted Islam's minions to get away with limitless murders nearly everywhere on the face of the earth.
Deliver our world from the horrors of Islam!

Unfortunately, Khalid Khawaja is right on some points and he curiously sounds like the Bush administration on others. There's no question that the Pakistan military is very closely allied to the Taliban. These Taliban sympathizers have done much to impede operations in the rural areas of Pakistan to end the influence of the tribal leaders and Al-Qaeda. He says the coalition will ultimately lose and will not bring peace to his country. History will teach us, as it did the Soviets, that winning a war in Afghanistan is not likely. And as long as the allies do it on the cheap with minimal troop strength, history will indeed repeat itself. And Khawaja divides the world into "Pakistan’s friends and Pakistan’s foes." "Americans are enemies of Afghanistan and they are enemies of Pakistan,” he said. He almost sounds like Bush's "either you're for us or against us" hubris.

Funny. Shouldn't Allah be Pakistan's prime defender? He wasn't even on the list.
This man places a nuclear arsenal, the army, the taliban (all instruments of man) over his god?
SHAME ON HIM!!

It's part of the master plan from Mo: convert, subdue or kill.
Just think about it folks. The jihad will continue because: "Our religion has not changed. If it was jihad then, it is jihad now." and all along the way they have figured out how to steal our wealth to pay for it all. (A Bonus!)
The whole world is being subdued.

It makes me sick how we pander to these people. They have an excuse to hate everyone (except themselves). They speak out of both sides of their mouth, whichever will serve them best and they flaunt their disdain. When is someone in Gov't going to wake up and figure this out???
Will we just keep sending money until the day comes that we in North America are finally "subdued" (ugh)by these proliferating hatemongers? I just shake my head.....

They won't you see, cause it's only a 'tiny minority of extremists' that are trouble.
Meanwhile, each country must stay calm and just pay the extortion fees on a regular basis and they will come to love us all.

"Our religion has not changed. If it was jihad then, it is jihad now."
Further proof that islam is incapable of being reformed. For I believe, and I know I am not the only one to hold this thought, if open and honest debate of the meaning of islam ever happens then the obvious will happen. Islam will be seen as the religion of death. Empty of truth. And will disappear as a major player in the world. The whole idea of throwing more money at a problem has crossed over from the liberal realm into the conservative. Used to be in this nation we didn't freely throw money. But that has obviously changed. I don't necessarily see it as a jizya, although it sure looks like it at times, but rather a fear of what might happen to a nation that is totally dependent on our aid. It's a problem we have created on our own. Dollar diplomacy is not very effective. The only time I can think of when it has been effective is in the rebuilding of Europe and Japan to prevent communist take-over. It does not, and will not make us "friends". Just "welfare" cases.

Assalamau Laikum gymgal,
You say "Will we just keep sending money until the day comes that we in North America are finally "subdued" (ugh)by these proliferating hatemongers? I just shake my head".....
Oh come now gal...Islam never sleeps...this much is true ...but why so much hate.
Gymgal, change is difficult....the 1st half second of a cold shower is difficult ...then it's OK. Thousands of Jewish, Indonesian and Hindu womens would have thought like you....but like them you too will eventually enjoy the feel of a beard around your face ...in a beautiful kiss.
I don't think you need to stop gym classes at all....just ensure you are in a burka on that cross-trainer dear....it will probably help you lose that fat faster..that so many of you Amerike carry around with you.
In your training regime, Islam will help you keep your knees supple, prayer will help keep your thighs and ankles supple too....simply by praying...rather cool don't you think!
Gymgal, you can ask me qustions to help you to acclimatise or a local imam will do too..nashids for music and you get to work only half day on Fridays....whooppee!
Come & see me soon in Pak, muslima gymgal.

Mr. Khawaja concedes that Taliban rule had some unfortunate glitches.
Yeah...beating and murdering people who didn't dress right, didn't have enough facial hair or had different spiritual beliefs was a glitch. Banning women from working, voting, schooling, or showing their face in public was a glitch. Supporting and protecting the man who was responsible for the murder of 3000 innocent civilians on 9-11 was a glitch.

Thanks again for the invite to come and see you, but I must decline. I wouldn't last 5 minutes over there, being the bigmouth that I am.
I am actually always glad to hear your point of view, I find it interesting and fascinating. You have, however, misinterpreted my frustration for hate. I'm glad you're still posting ;o)
P.S.
I'm really not interested in bearded muslims!!!

We really ought to start taking Muslims at face value more in our PC Western societies. They are not hiding a thing and are quite open and honest about their motivations and intentions.

Just because you give dollars, pakistanies will not follow you like a dog. It is very clearly given in their Holy Book to cheat as a duty when faced with superior force.(read musharaff's Memoirs).Khwaja is correct in saying that threre is no alqueada(none claims to be one). then who is alqueada? It is OIC controlled by Saudi arabia.
Till the ruling cliques in America understand this, they will continue killing the wrong guys.

I prefer Neil Young's 'Rust Never Sleeps'. Don't strain your wee brain, Naseem. He's a musician and songwriter. You wouldn't know about him.
