Imam offers prayer at Iowa Statehouse asking Allah for "victory over those who disbelieve"

And some of those in attendance were not sufficiently browbeaten by political correctness to fail to notice that that meant victory over them.

"Muslim opening prayer at Iowa Statehouse raises concerns," by Erin Ballou for the Storm Lake Pilot Tribune (thanks to Bryan Preston):

The Iowa Legislature started just over a week ago and some people were upset before the first issue was every addressed.

When the session began, a Muslim Imam began the prayer in the Iowa Legislature. This is where the controversy begins.

The prayer asked of "Victory over those who disbelieve," and "Protection from the great Satan" among other things.

[...]

Here is the text of the opening prayer, as transcribed by Radio Iowa:

Imam Muhammad Khan of the Islamic Center of Des Moines spoke first in Arabic.

"I seek refuge in God against the accursed Satan in the name of God, most gracious, most merciful," Khan said in English. Khan made no specific mention of the war in Iraq or foreign affairs, but he called God the "master of the day of judgment" and asked for "victory over those who disbelieve."...

I like Churchill's words better. And why in hell is such a man opening the Iowa Statehouse's sessions?

Posted by: lonewolf [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 24, 2008 11:26 AM

"over those who disbelieve"... in other words everybody at the Iowa legislature and Iowa itself. Since most of them are a) Christians b) secular or c) jewish or some other nonmuslim faith. (The vast majority in Iowa however are Chrsitians).

wow islam the religion of peace. "victory over them"--how? a spiritual victory of some kind or some good ol' fashion beheadings and killings as their prophet muhammed preached.

This is ridiculous.

Really? This was allowed to happen? Please have Imam Muhammad Khan of the Islamic Center of Des Moines, this bag of islamic pus, escorted to the nearest airport and flown to any islamic country of his choosing. No need for the plane to land.

"And why in hell is such a man opening the Iowa Statehouse's sessions?"

Political correctness. But hey, we are "grossly exagerating" the threat.

Posted by: Elric66 [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 24, 2008 11:31 AM

Amazing. I bet no one objected though. It would be like a Nazi standing up and calling for the killing of all jews as the liberal elite all sit around smiling at each other at the wonderful diverse culture they have created, where all opinions are treated equally. Even ones that call for them to be wiped out.

Wake up and smell the sharia.

Right on lonewolf! I agree.

speaking of Churchill his grandson came out back in 2006 saying that "radical Islam is at war with the world", no dhimmi here! He is honoring truth and his granddad.

Of course no one can accurately translate what he really said in Arabic. Might have been worse.

Of course Iowa being the state from whence came the Honorable Sen. Grassley, who was the chairman of a finance committee in the US Senate who was 'supposed' to investigate Islamic Terror Financing and didn't. Including the one that Congressman Siljander was involved in. See Counterterrorism blog.
And is now investigating Church finances.
I guess Iowa has gone beyond the Corn Belt stage.

I thought Midwesterner's were supposed to be level-headed and have common sense?

Well, this exercise in imbecility shoots down that stereotype.

Protection from the great Satan"

Wait a minute, Iowa needs protection from America?
Aren't WE the 'Great Satan'?

Posted by: Aunt Bea [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 24, 2008 11:42 AM

"those who disbelieve" - darn those infidels!

Oh, that would us.

I think I'm offended. Where is the riot? Where are the street demonstrations? Where are the talking heads complaining about the misunderstanding of disbelief? Where is the Infidel Defense League when you need them?

Posted by: tanstaafl [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 24, 2008 11:42 AM

I'm so sick of hearing anyone who wants to stand up to Islam call it "radical islam". It's Islam. You think it's a step in the right direction, and it maybe, but it's a baby step as they can't shake off that fog of PC preventing them from seeing it as proper Islam, as what the Prophet of Islam and the first Muslims (mercenaries) did and commanded.

I like how Geert Wilders puts it much better.

Go Geert Go !!!

Didja know there's more pigs than people in Iowa? Here's hoping you see pigs and hogs and sows and piglets all the time and that you're constantly offended!

"Imam Muhammad Khan of the Islamic Center of Des Moines spoke first in Arabic."

....great!...I suspect no one in attendence spoke Arabic....there is no telling what he called them....

....The Legislature should erect a sign "only English spoken here"....

Posted by: exsgtbrown [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 24, 2008 11:46 AM

O.K, let's have the next session of the Iowa legislature begin with prayers offered by a Catholic priest, as follows:
Monseigneur Stanley Topalski of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church of Des Moines spoke first in Latin,
"I seek refuge in God against the accursed Satan in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ" Topalski said in English, and went asked for "victory over those who disbelieve."

There wouldn't be any objections over that, would there?

Most people are deluded into believing that Jews, Christians, and Mohammedans worship the same god. So, it is natural that they do not understand.

The failure of ministers and rabbis to put forth the truth that Allah is not the same god is a failure that will haunt us forever.

Muslims actually worship Mikhail Kalashnikov.

Very careless of the imam to let the truth slip out like that.

..and of PMK too, admitting in his little prayer that he is somehow so superior to us infidels 'down here at our level'.

Sneakyzionistcrusader - you are right. I keep getting perturbed when people say 'islamics' instead of muslims. THEY ARE MUSLIMS! Or, 'they are good people'. CRUD they are! If they were they would worry more about the violence their koran teaches than their image. 'honor killings', polygamy, dhimmitude and clitorectomies (to name a few disgusting things) would disappear and they would be killing/jailing murderers and that sort of ilk instead of those who question, or want to get out of that cruddy religion. And their koran would be reduced to about 10-20 pages since they would have to delete a lot of it due to it being a book of war tactics and inciting hatred.

It is most unfortunate that Iowa is loaded with a bunch of baffoons.
Those idiots were fouling their shorts to run and vote for Barack Osama, the same idiot that has done schizzle in my home state.
I am not surprised this is happening in Iowa.
Iowa and Minnesota are disgusting and disappointing and would vote for a carrot if the carrot was hyped enough.

Would any of you vote for a carrot?

I am so disgusted with the typical US voter who falls for someone who has done NOTHING in his home state.

If a Minister or priest prayed for victory over those who disbelieve, you'd never hear the end of it. They'd be be forced to apologize for not being "inclusive" enough.

Why in the world are they asking an Imam to open a ligislative session with a prayer anyway? He doesn't even believe in democracy, and can't wait to replace it with an Islamic theocracy.

We shouldn't be suprised though, considering that Iowa Democrats stupidly handed an Afro-Centric candidate a victory in their primary.

Prayer in the Statehouse? What happened to the separation of church and state?
Part of the excessive deference given to anything which calls itself a religion in the USA.  If we lifted the tax-exempt status of religion qua religion and only allowed deductibility for legitimate educational and charitable activities, we would be rid of both the Islamic shenanigans and the "prosperity gospel" frauds. Here's a comment by CAIR-Canada's Sheema Khan who actually defends imposing Shariah law in Canada and admits Canada has too many Ignorant
Imams , this is from her mouth in September of 2005.

*********************************************

And for those who view this as a victory for the protection of women -- think again. There are too many unqualified, ignorant imams making back-alley pronouncements on the lives of women, men and children. The practice will continue, without any regulation, oversight or accountability. Muslim women (and men) will still seek religious divorces and settlement of inheritance matters in accordance with their faith. And not just the ubiquitous downtrodden immigrant Muslim woman who speaks little English. Our overburdened courts will still need to rely on experts in Muslim family law to deal with pre-nuptial contracts. Nothing has really changed -- except the fact that we have missed a golden opportunity to shine light on abuses masquerading as faith, and to ensure that rulings don't contradict the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Despite the acrimony surrounding the debate, there have been a few silver linings. First has been the tremendous debate engendered within the Muslim community about the practicality (or lack thereof) of establishing such tribunals. Unlike rabbis and priests, there is no college of imams in Canada to provide accreditation. There are no institutes to train jurists in Muslim family law. Many Muslim women are ignorant about their own rights within Islam, schooled instead in cultural misogyny. And certain provisions -- such as inheritance shares between sons and daughters -- raise concerns of contradicting the Charter. There would have been no shame for community leaders to say: "While we acknowledge our right to arbitration, we admit that we are not ready. We need to first educate our community so its members can make informed choices." But even those who had doubts about Muslim tribunals have been stung by the shrill language of opponents and the abrupt ban by Mr. McGuinty.
************************************************

Oh the hypocrisy , there's the whole op-ed tripe by Khan.

They steer past civil rights. Instead, they focus on tribal and religious supremacy. They can achieve political power. But the equality and human rights of outside tribes may be compromised. Transcripts of their speeches provide abundant evidence. They demonstrate intolerance.

This should be expected when a Muslim is elected to office. This Imam should never have been there in the first place.

All Americans from the judicial, legislative and executive branches of government; at the local, state and federal levels, should take a public oath of office which includes this statement:

"I will protect and defend the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. I will defend every American's right, given by their Creator, to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness."

This oath should also be publically taken by all people prior to addressing the legislature, whether in prayer or in speech.

Are the Muslims representative in suffucient numbers to receive this privilege?
Why there are no Jews or Hindus or Native Americans invited to perform opening prayers or speaches in public venues such as this?

How many Muslims are there in Iowa?
Or is this reverse discrimination?
The squeaky wheel gets the grease?
Preemptive dhimmitude?
Fear?

"Imam Muhammad Khan of the Islamic Center of Des Moines spoke first in Arabic."

What's with that? He was speaking in a United States Statehouse to a room filled with American legislators.

That's when I would have walked out. Am I the only one who considers speaking in Arabic, under those circumstances, to be incredibly rude and totally inappropriate? I certainly wouldn't stand there with my head bowed, as if in agreement, when I had no idea what was being said.

Also, this Imam called for victory over disbelievers. Even if the assembled group was entirely clueless that Imams include Christians and Jews as disbelievers, they still should have turned their backs on him and walked out. With those words, the Imam was leading elected representatives in prayer against members of their own constituencies (Buddhist, Hindu, atheists, etc.).

Iowa may truly be lost if they sweep this one under the rug.

While friction between majority and minority populations has always been evident, the ability to tolerate one another is a testament to the civility and pragmatism of the host majority, and the minority population as well. Such is not the case with Islam.
As the local Islamic "leaders" demand not only equality of treatment, but special rights and privliges granted not even to the general public, the response from the local government is usually some kind of accomodation which is unending, of course, because they have found success with intimidation of liberal minded leaders all over the world.
The typical political response is of course, weak and showing a certain amount of cowardice, providing incremental steps in a game towards cultural checkmate.
These constant claims of discrimination cover an aggressive and corrupt ideology that will consume all freedoms given to it from well meaning liberals, until it has gained political power and no longer needs to use the democratic tools, since it has NO USE FOR DEMOCRACY, and no concept of liberty. Their goal: Intimidate the general population; Render the culture to self-hatred; Paralyze the state with indecision , and takeover with sharia (theocracy).
Conclusion: Islam is a facist Political Party posing as a religion.

I suggest those who are interested in making America safe from the “PEACEFUL” religion of Islam visit ACT for America on the interned and read about how peaceful they really are. Brigitte Gabriel lived in the former Christian Lebanon before the Muslims drove her country into war. She lived seven years in a bomb shelter beginning at the age of seven. She seen first had how they murdered Christians and Jews just because of their religion. She started a nationwide organization called ACT! for America. It has local chapters all over the nation. Get involved.
If you want to see, just how peaceful this religion is, go to Inspiration Today, visit their video archives, and see first hand what they want of America, as they call us the Great Satan. Former Islamic terrorist Walid Shoebat tell about the futile intentions of Western politicians to peaceably absorb Muslims into our culture and economy. He is a former PLO terrorist that killed 223 Christians and Jews before the age of 16-years. Why is our government lying to us about his “PEACEFUL” RELIGION.

"I seek refuge in God against the accursed Satan"

That's a reference to the United States.

"...victory over those who disbelieve.""

That's a reference to non-Muslim believers.

"On behalf of the Muslim community of Des Moines and Iowa, I wish you all the success in this year for making the right decisions for us,"

That means: I wish success on every Iowan (you know those white European settlers) that converts to Islam this year.

Incredible. We used to sing the old hymn "Onward Christians Soldiers" in church. We can't anymore. But, this guy gets away with this speech.
