The next time riots break out among Muslims in Europe, and the learned experts on television and in the Times and the Post start handwringing about the failure of European states to assimilate their Muslim minorities, remember this statement, and who made it, and how it was received.
"Erdogan cheered by 16,000 Turks in Cologne," from Expatica (thanks to all who sent this in):
Cologne, Germany -- A crowd of 16,000 expatriate Turks cheered Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a vast indoor auditorium in Germany on Sunday as he told them to resist assimilation into the West. The political rally by Germany's biggest ethnic minority upset German politicians, who objected to a major public event on German soil being advertised on posters in Turkish only.
Erdogan indirectly addressed those concerns, saying it was right for Turkish immigrants to learn German and other languages so they could integrate, but wrong to abandon their Turkish heritage and assimilate.
"Assimilation is a crime against humanity," he told the crowd. Many Turks had travelled from France, Belgium and the Netherlands to hear his hour-long address in the shiny venue, the Koelnarena.
"I can well understand that you are against assimilation," he said. "It is important to learn German, but your Turkish language should not be neglected."
He said ethnic Turks abroad should be more confident in standing up for their interests, and should win election as mayors and members of European national parliaments....
Erdogan was lionized by other speakers at the event, organized by the Union of European Turkish Democrats, a group that supports his moderate Islamist AKP party.
"Moderate."

"ASSIMILATION is a crime against humanity," (Turkish PM Erdogan) told the crowd (to a standing ovation).
Excuse me while I take a moment to pick my jaw up off the floor. I must, however, commend him for his ideological honesty.
I'd very much like to see the USA (State Dept.) drop it's request to the EU to permit the Turks to join the EU. However, given the shear number of Turks who have infiltrated Germany and the EU to date, it's actually a moot point. I'm convinced it's already too late to reverse the past 30 years of neglect short of the use of force and violence.

Someone make an anthology of collected spew of 'moderate' Islams from Erdogan to our 'partner in peace' Abbas to Ibrahim (jump through my) Hooper.

The Turks are crowing about a "crime against humanity". Do they really want to go down that road?
Lets see how did the Turks handle people unwilling to "assimilate"?

Well there IS one way to avoid the near occasion of the sin of assimilation: go back to Turkey and stay there.

PM Erdogan appears not to understand the meaning of "assimilation".
It doesn't require you to give up your native language. You can speak it at home all you wish. You just shouldn't require a whole nation to learn YOUR native language because you decided to grace them with your presence.
It doesn't require you to give up your native culture. You can cook ethnic foods. You can probably make a good living with a restaurant or store that offers such foods. You just cannot continue some aspects of your culture that don't conform to the laws or norms of the country you have decided to grace with your presence.
You chose to live in Germany. Germans accommodated you. It is up to you to accommodate yourself to German society and German customs. It's called reciprocity. It's called adapting yourself to your new situation. If you can't do it, go home. Contrary to the popular saying, the world is not your oyster.

PMK, I agree. Why the heck are they moving to the West in droves when they have no intentions to assimilate?? That's a rhetorical question of course.

Send them back to Turkey and then they don't need to assimilate or learn German.
If this isn't a signal to the German (and other European)Governments about what the future holds, then Europe is truly (as opposed to apparently) lost.

I wonder if Eris S. Edelman, a former US ambassador to Turkey (2003-2005) and staunch supporter of Turkey's admission to the EU, is aware of Mr. Erdogan's comment: "(Muslim) Assimilation (into Europe) is a crime against humanity"?
I wonder, further, if Mr. Edelman is aware that WE are now aware of HIS resistance to the renewal of Steve Coughlin's contract renewal with the DoD? And that WE now know he was an ambassador to Turkey? Hmm...
By the way, I don't speak Turkish. Is it possible Mr. Erdogan didn't utter the word "assimilation" during the course of his speech in Germany?
Is it possible Mr. Erdogan actually used/said the word "Armenia"?
The word - Armenia - would make sense in the same sentence in an... Ottoman sort of way:
"ARMENIA is a crime against humanity." Despite their lies/falsehoods to the contrary, the Turks in the late 19th and early 20th century prided themselves on configuring "final solutions" of their own. Hitler may have believed the Turks were ahead of their time. In fact, the Turks were merely doing what they'd been doing for 400 years.

They do not assimilate because their preachers tell them that it is un-Islamic to act like a kuffar. They are even admonished to avoid the kuffar's celebrations such as Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, or any other day that Mohammed did not celebrate. This non-assimilation is deeply ingrained in their religion.
The true-blue Muslims will not assimilate.

"Assimilation is a crime against humanity."
Ok. And thousands upon thousands of innocent civilians being murdered in Sudan is.... what then?
Someone should make an Islamic dictionary for non-Muslims so when Muslims say something such as this, the real meaning will be there for all to see. Often they have outright statements which are as clear as anything. However, for when they lie, this dictionary would come in very handy. I think Oxford should look into this, as long as Archbishop Williams has nothing to do with it.

"Assimilation is a crime against humanity"
Keep it up Erdogan. You've become the best proaganda tool the west could hope to have to keep Turkey out of the EU.
Someone needs to follow him around with a recording microphone 24/7. Each slip is better then the next.

They're upset, but they do nothing!
In fairness to Prime Minister Erdogan, he's only mouthing the dogma of multiculturalism that got its start in the West. Those 16,000 Turks aren't the only ones applauding him, a large segment of the American and European academic and political world are applauding him. That world has been telling us for years that assimulation is a crime.
So what's new?

I grew up in Alaska as part of an Army family. My father was stationed on Fort Richardson and we went to the Post Exchange quite often.
I was standing in line for something with my Mother there, when a little boy about my age,(5 or so), said something in a language I didn't understand to his father. His father struck him lightly on the back of the head and said,"We're Americans now, speak English!"
Those days are gone. People once came here to be Americans, eat hot dogs and apple pie. What the hell happened? Yeah...I know...damn Hippies.

Alaskan,
I would add two more things:
1. Jet travel - coming to America didn't have to be a one-way, one-time-only trip across the ocean. There were more planes than ships and the journey was quicker.
2. Modern telecommunications - you could stay in touch with the family more and more. Calling was easier than writing a letter. Every advance erased another piece of the border between nations. The internet was the icing on the cake.

They will never assimilate with opinions such as this:

It is a question about school graduation ceremonies. The answer is basically participation is haram because of many, many reasons- too many to list here.

How things change over time.
To think that, oh so, not too long ago, Germany was expected to absorb a full scale Soviet Military Attack. At a time when the Soviets were at their strongest.
The Soviets had the Largest Conventional Army in the world and it was all pointed at Germany. There never appeared to be a question that they would have made their Parents and Grand Parents Proud had that day ever arrived.
Today they are afraid to kill a few Taliban. Let alone even get close enough to have to.
German Heritage is not Nazi Germany under Hitler.
Germany need not Import a new Yoke to replace the old one they cast off.

If Erdogan is clever (and I think he is) he has realized that he can move from his surreptitious sabotage to a more blatant honest Jihad. The days of the sinister camouflage Jihad of Fethullah Gulen are largely over. And it is the PC MC West that is to blame for making their overt, not so "stealthy", Jihad hospitable.

I see Germany electing a "strong man" within 10 years or so to take care of this problem. God knows current politicians seem unwilling to do anything about it.
And take care of it he will!

I believe 1 battallion of German paratroops or mountain troops could have arrested the whole gang of muslim terrorists and shipped them back to Turkey.
My belief is "Permitting any muslims in Germany is a crime against ethnic Germans."
Keep acting stupid and lets wait for a military coup in 1 form or another.
Germany was just strong enough to deter the Soviets from storming through the Fulda Gap, so I would not worry about 2 million muslim welfare abusers who carry only bad attitude.
The clock is ticking for muslims to leave in Germany.

No it's not, It's 'not assimilating' that is the crime. Those who can't, or won't assimilate, should be sent back to their mother country.
What he means is blending Muslim culture with some other culture by assimilation, is a crime against the purity of Allah and Islam, and humanity, the Ummah... Yep He's right so lets send all these non-assimilaters home....

Muslims do not see expulsion as a 'crime against humanity', however, as Muslims have been expelling non-believing non-Muslims from Islamic-occupied territories throughout their own history.
Seeing that Muslims accept and employ the tactic of expelling non-Muslims from Islamic held territories consistently, the western democracies in this case can and should "go Muslim" (so to speak) and expel Muslims en masse from ALL western democracies ASAP without regret and without delay....
Heck, It's the ISLAMIC thing to do!

I tend to think your take on the situation is accurate. Imperialistic Islam feeds on the natural feeling of invincibility in youth... particularly male youth. This feeling, irrational as it is, has been allowed to grow out of control by the good intentions and magnanimity of the West.
Unfortunately for the West, Islamic militancy is so out of control that there is little prospect of peacefully bringing back under control, given Islamic doctrine and weak-kneed Western leaders.
Unfortunately for Muslims, and particularly the Muslim youth who are the cannon fodder, invincibility is an illusion… otherwise we'd see Bin Laden shaking his fist at our troops instead of hiding in a cave.
I'd say the clock is ticking alright, and not just in Germany.
Anxiety about demographic trends, Islamic doctrine and Muslim violence will continue to grow until governments address it with forthrightness. Every day Muslim leaders continue to convince their youth that the 21st century West can be subdued by one fifth of the world's population following a 7th century culture brings us all one day closer to catastrophe. And it will most likely be a catastrophe in which no one is going to be interested in interpreting the nuance of Muslim "extremist" versus "moderate" versus "apologist".
If I were part of the Muslim population in Europe or anywhere else, I wouldn't count on another "NATO Intervention" to stop the next large scale anti-Muslim atrocity.
Vengeance, like Islamic doctrine, has little pity for enemies.
