An unusual warning. "DHS, FBI Warn of Possibility of Female Homicide Bombers," from FoxNews (thanks to all who sent this in):
The growing use by terrorist groups of women — some disguised as expectant moms — to deliver deadly homicide bombs has prompted the Department of Homeland Security and FBI to issue a rare warning that such attacks could take place on American soil.The joint security assessment cited recent female homicide bomber attacks in Baghdad — in which two women who appeared to have Down syndrome delivered a deadly explosion that killed 99 — as well as in Sri Lanka, Chechnya, India, Pakistan and the Palestinian territories as reason for the warning.
"Female suicide bombers may have an advantage over their male counterparts in accessing targets," the analysis cautioned. "The means to conduct a suicide attack vary widely, but a key element in maximizing the lethality of a suicide bombing is the bomber's ability to get close to the target."
The assessment also strongly warned that potential female homicide bombers could use "prosthetic devices that mimic the look of a pregnant woman."
"Regardless of delivery by a man or a woman," the warning reads, "improvised explosive devices may contain fragmentation or shrapnel, such as nails, bolts, glass fragments, marbles, ball bearings, or other small metal pieces."
The assessment, which emphasizes that DHS and FBI have no solid evidence indicating imminent homicide bombing attacks on U.S. soil, also reminds law enforcement officials that "facilities such as public places" are the most vulnerable to homicide bombing attacks and that "the terrorist's latitude in determining and adjusting the target and timing of an attack up to the point of detonation" make it difficult to prepare countermeasures....

Any chance we can start calling them "suicide-murderers"? I just think the term "homocide bombers" has lost its value. These people are MURDERERS. That's that.

Wow, I don't think that they could stoop any lower than this; not unless they used decrepit old granny's with explosive canes as bombers.
The womb represents newness of life, safety & warmth, and to use that fixture to gain a persons trust is disgusting! What filth hole did these soulless terrorists crawl out of? Islam?

Seriously though, whoever it is thinks up stuff like this, I must concede they have me way beat in the 'sick' department, This sort of stuff would never have occurred to me -- like 9/11? -- and some other of their choice stunts, not in a million years. It's just horrifying and I suppose is part of the point. How psychotic do you have to be? How'd they get that way? Wow.

I think they already have. I still can't find anything lower than using an infant's bottle to smuggle explosives. We already know from past history that their children's lives mean nothing to them. The women who have blown themselves up in the past have generally been "damaged goods". One of the earliest was a young woman who had no future in the Muslim world because she was infertile.

So what else is new? We live in an open society and our trust of strangers puts us at the mercy of those who would do us harm. We've known this for decades. We didn't need DHS or the FBI to tell us.

Don't kid yourselves, DHS and FBI. They don't need to mimic anything. They would use a real pregnant woman in a heartbeat.
In fact, that is how the Lockerbie bombing occurred: jihadi moves to the West, obtains a gullible Western girlfriend, impregnates her, then sends her on the flight with a "special package" in the luggage. His own lover. His own child.
The DHS and FBI are apparently still playing catch up; they are still apparently clinging to the reassuring false hope that "all people are the same", "we all want the same things".
Nothing the jihadis do can shock me anymore. Nothing.

This shouldn't come as any surprise. When I was in Europe a few years ago, I was subjected to extra scrutiny because I was an American female traveling alone. I suspect the concept of the jihadi using females has been known for some time; not sure why it's being reiterated now.

So, maybe what we as sentient beings can be looking for are these clues, any combination of which can indicate trouble:
She may appear to be doped, sedated.
She may be muttering prayers in a language you don’t understand.
She may be adjusting the device harness because it’s uncomfortable or because she’s not used to carrying it.
She may be looking nervously around her because she’s nearing her target and doesn’t want to be caught; or she may not be a volunteer and is looking for her handler who will detonate the bomb when she’s in the best location for maximum damage.
She may smell as though she’s doused herself in perfume, part of ‘ritual cleansing’, anticipating meeting her maker and wanting to be as clean as possible for the appointment.
She may have something in her hand that looks like a push-button switch. There may be wires visible and more than one switch.
Maybe you remember seeing her just down the street a few days ago and she wasn’t pregnant then.
Neither the US government nor the cop who just went around the corner has a legal obligation to protect you personally. It’s your job to keep your eyes and ears open and react properly and in a timely manner.

Good link. One of the commenters to the story pointed out that the previous director (the one arrested here was the acting director) was killed because he wouldn't cooperate with al Qaeda. Looks like al Qaeda made their point and the next guy said laid out the red carpet.
Ibrahim Muhammad Agel, director of the hospital, was killed in the Mansour district of Baghdad on December 11 by gunmen on motorbikes. Colleagues suspect that he was shot for refusing to cooperate with al-Qaeda.
