FBI warns of possible Hizballah revenge in U.S.

"While retaliation in the U.S. homeland is unlikely, Hezbollah has demonstrated a capability to respond outside the Middle East to similar events in the past." And remember: there are already Hizballah cells in the U.S.

"FBI warns of possible Hezbollah revenge in U.S.," by Josh Meyer for the Los Angeles Times (thanks to Sr. Soph):

WASHINGTON -- The FBI and Department of Homeland Security sent a bulletin Friday to state and local law enforcement authorities advising them to watch for potential retaliatory strikes by Hezbollah, one day after the Lebanese militia group vowed to avenge the death of a top commander by attacking Israeli and Jewish targets around the world.

"While retaliation in the U.S. homeland is unlikely, Hezbollah has demonstrated a capability to respond outside the Middle East to similar events in the past," said the intelligence bulletin sent to about 18,000 state and local law enforcement officials late Friday afternoon.

The FBI also said it was intensifying its domestic intelligence-gathering efforts to identify any potential Hezbollah threats in the United States in the aftermath of Tuesday's car-bomb assassination of Imad Mughniyah in Syria.

On Wednesday, the FBI sent a confidential internal bulletin to its 101 Joint Terrorism Task Forces across the country warning of the possible domestic consequences of Mughniyah's killing. As part of that effort, FBI officials at headquarters told the bureau's field offices and multiagency task forces to increase monitoring and surveillance of suspected Hezbollah operatives and to conduct fresh interviews with sources and informants about the U.S.-designated terrorist group, according to two FBI officials.

U.S. authorities have long described Hezbollah as the "A-Team" of terrorism, with far more discipline than Al Qaeda, vast financing from the government of Iran, and a global network of sleeper operatives who could be called on to launch an attack at any time. Various federal investigations and prosecutions have uncovered dozens of Hezbollah fundraisers and supporters in the United States, but few people are believed to be actual "bomb throwers," according to a senior FBI counter-terrorism official who focuses on Hezbollah....

Surely a pre-emptive sweep of Dearborn and other such areas is both necessary and legitimate, given the perceived threat. The reaction to such a sweep by the Presidential candidates will be telling, and should be known now, and not after the election. By "sweep" I mean a determined effort to locate all non-citizens in such areas likely to harbor Hezbollah supporters or admirers (and supporters and admirers of other groups conducting the same kind of violent Jihad), and to remove them from this country. And other measures can be taken to make sure that it is well understood that any attacks in this country will lead to a steady deterioration in the position of those who share the ideology of the attackers. That ideology is, of course, that of Jihad. In other words, all those who believe in the duty, and necessity, either of participating in, or supporting in any way those who participate in, the "Jihad" or struggle to remove all obstacles, anywhere, to the spread, and then dominance, of Islam, pose a permanent danger to the legal and political institutions of this country, to free expression in art and free inquiry necessary to science, and furthermore, pose a physical threat to Americans that cannot and will not be tolerated.

Those Muslmis who claim to be completely opposed to the idea of "Jihad" as it has been widely understood, and acted on wherever possible, over the past 1350 years, should understand why those familiar with Islam look upon assertions with a skeptical eye (and those who are the defectors from Islam, such as Wafa Sultan and Ibn Warraq, are the most skeptical of all), given that by continuing to describe themselves as adherents of a Total Belief-System that makes "Jihad" a central duty, they hold themselves out as Believers in every respect, including the acceptance of the central duty to spread Islam, and to work for its dominance.

Those Muslims who do not agree with such a duty, and whose Islam is more a matter of not ideological but cultural baggage, are free to act in such ways -- by stating the uncomfortable truths about the ideology of Islam, even as they distance themselves from it, and do what they can to undermine -- that may relieve some non-Muslims of justificiable, perfectly reasonable assumptions and suspicions.

For anyone who continues today to call himself a Muslim (not a "cultural Muslim" and not a "Muslim-for-identification-purposes-only" Muslim), can be held to know the contents of the texts (Qur'an, Hadith, Sira), and therefore the tenets of Islam, and the attitudes and atmospherics of states, societies, families suffused with Islam (many Infidels have been educating themselves, and it is getting harder and harder to hide the truth from, at least, that ever-expanding number of people in the West), and has an affirmative duty, as the lawyers say, to distance himself, not by denying what Islam teaches (and especially the manner in which the world is divided, in Islam, between Believer and Infidel), but by acknowledging what it teaches and insisting that this particular "Muslim" is entirely opposed to such teaching.

That is the kind of thing that will have to be done, for those who think they can continue to live within the Infidel lands, where our way of life -- of taking planes or trains or busses, for example -- has already been altered, for the worse, by the threat that comes from Muslims, acting according to unambiguous Muslim texts, attempting to participate in Jihad, not bu using non-violent instruments -- Da'wa, demographic conquest, the Money Weapon (which have the same goal, and in the end are even more dangerous to Infidels)-- but rather, violence, the violence of qitaal, or combat, now held by many Muslims to legitimately describe what we non-Muslims have no difficulty describing as "terrorism."

Let it be understood that with every act of attempted or completed terrorism in this country, the position of Muslims becomes ever more tenuous. Collective punishment, you say? No, not any more so than the treatment of enemy aliens during any war. If one wishes to dissasociate clearly and convincingly from the ideology fo the enemy, there are many obvious ways to do so. One is to work to help the authorities locate, and investigate, and prosecute, all those who are likely to be dangerous, or to encourage others to engage in violence. It isn't hard to work with, rather than to work against, those attempting to protect the people of this country. Failure to do so, when one is well-placed to do so, will be carefully noted, carefully taken in.

"We are opposed to terrorist acts of all types, but we do not consider jihad, resistance for materializing absolute rights, and a campaign against occupation aimed at liberating one's own motherland terrorist acts, since such moves are righteous uprising." ~Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, in a sermon lauding the "martyr" Imad Mughniya.

Looks to me like a distinction without a difference. I'm imagining a CAIR led and defended "righteous uprising" to secure "absolute rights" in the Islamic Republic of Dearborn against being subjected to the kind of garbage collecting "pre-emptive sweep" that Hugh advises. After all, for Muslims born there, Dearborn IS the motherland. As for Dearborn's non-Muslim residents? Well, it's not too late for them to "get religion" and hop on board Yusuf Islam's "Peace Train."

"Suspected Hezbollah operatives"?
If we even suspect that people are in Hezbollah and we know who they are then why are they even in the US? Why weren't they denied entry or deported long ago?

Hezbollah has been a terrorist organization since day one. How does anyone with any ties to Hezbollah even set foot on American soil?

I think they call it "open Borders". An issue lost in the Latino quarter, by way of Multiculturalism.
Profiling would be nice Tool but that is against the Law. Treating these issues as a Crime for Law Enforcement only helps after the fact. All the while the potential perpetrators are fee to espouse just about any desired act of violent transgression by right of free speech.

Given the nature of the General News of our day, where some subjects seem taboo and certain criticism unacceptable. It comes down to the individuals concerned, to express themselves on the Street. We need to apply our opponents tactics in a more dignified manor. It works well for the Minority. Why should it not work better for the Majority?

From above: Dearborn IS the motherland.

More properly Fearborn, (A typo that I will let stand), is an outpost of the Ummah, which has no borders. A community without borders, with a strong sense of ownership, owns the planet ultimately.
Allah created the planet for muslims. The entire planet is 'their' motherland, but it is not yours so get out kaffur, you who are loaded down with filth, or start paying rent(jizya). Hezbollah, the party of God, is here to collect the rent, and extract a price. We will either pay it, or run them out of town...

We all have an affirmtive duty (thanks, Hugh) to ourselves, our loved ones, and to humanity to be proactive in this war, in our individual AO.

The enemy is not at the gates, he is inside the walls. Those who won't be vigilant deserve the pain and horror of the slavery their craven fear invites and their smug arrogance permits.

Unerschrocken is not just an attitude ... it is an action.

Suck it up. It's gong to get worse before it gets better.

The disconnect from reality here is that the Hellsbollox vow revenge on Israel when it is probable that Israel had nothing to do with the death of the serial mass murderer who was so big in that criminal gang.

When Israel targets those murderers, they usually do it by a raid, or by an airstrike, the choice of carbombing points to someone inside the gang.

My speculation is that the gang leader had some rivals in the organization and they used their usual means to eliminate the man blocking their rise to the top of the criminal food chain.

Another thing, is that with the long history that the murder boss had, if it was an Israeli operation they probably would have taken a bow for eliminating such a thug, and not denied involvement.

Those within the organization are the prime suspects, of course since they must contend with the popularity that he had in the gang they cannot be upfront about their ambitions.

How perfect would that be, for an acid test!

The Presidential hopefuls--they bob, they weave, they duck the jihad issue, and dodge it! They'll crawl on their bellies like reptiles, for your vote--Democrat and Republican alike!

I thought things were bad, when my choice was Bush vs Gore!

Although I don't want people in the United States to be harmed, I do think that it will be unavoidable given the ideaology and the depth of the hold it has on believers. The sooner we can get the infection to come to a head, the sooner we can lance it and the easier will be the recovery. The risk of the infection will be reduced.

It needs to come to a head, despite the harm this causes us all.

I think there was a Hezbullah network in Michigan (can't remember where but I don't think it was Dearborn) where a guy was arrested on the prowl with a fully loaded AK-47 I think it was September either last one or the September over a year ago..can't remember exactly.

He was a medical student in the US on a student visa, and the police took him down through a tip. It was mentioned the police found Hizballah ties in the computer they seized from him. I remember also the mayor doing everything possible to shut the story down and not leak it. He did an outstanding job because I haven't heard about it since.

Sweeps are an excellent idea of feeling out the political waters. Very clever.

I didn't realize Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Muslim Brotherhood operated in Detroit. I suppose its not surprising, though, given the large Arab and Pakistani population here - but Indians still out number them.

Which Dearborn are you talking about? Dearborn, Michigan (which has a large Arab population) or one in Britain?

From Hugh:
Let it be understood that with every act of attempted or completed terrorism in this country, the position of Muslims becomes ever more tenuous. Collective punishment, you say? No, not any more so than the treatment of enemy aliens during any war.

From the inaugural address of a Democrat president so fondly, if vaguely, dreamily, and incompletely remembered by his party today:

"…
And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe -- the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.

We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans -- born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage, and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and the success of liberty.
…
We dare not tempt them with weakness.
…
In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility -- I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it."

Do Democrats really support this kind of speech today? Or would it be considered by the Left to be divisive hate speech from a religious fundamentalist?

The funny thing is it is probably the French who hired Arabs to do the hit, after discovering on January 30 a Hezbollah plot to do a series of spectaculars throughout Eurabia, including France. Even the French have now geared up and are acting like men, but not the no-goods who are running this country. The French even personaly chastised Robert Gates and Cowardeezza Rice for the cowardly NIE, accusing the US of incompetence and cowardice. How humiliating is this?

flowerknife us,

This isn't about profiling and it's not about Latinos and our borders aren't completely open. The US government still sees fit to deny visas to people suspected of being terrorists. (Wasn't one of the would-be 9/11 hijackers denied a visa, leaving them short a man and forcing them to find a replacement? There were supposed to be twenty hijackers.) Given Hezbollah's history, how would anyone connected with it ever get a visa?

stickman and poetcomic1,

It appears that this really was an inside job - by MOSSAD. They usually get it right. See below.

http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=56476

Tracking a killer
Mossad locates, eliminates Hezbollah terrorist

LONDON – Members of Britain's intelligence service have confirmed that Imad Mughniyah, the assassinated Hezbollah terrorist leader, had undergone plastic surgery in a private clinic in East Berlin on his 40th birthday to help him outwit his hunters – the kidon of Mossad.

Five birthdays later, however, he found himself in the crosshairs anyway, as members of Mossad caught up with him on a street in Damascus.

The Hezbollah terrorist chief's face had been altered by surgeons who had once worked for the Stasi, East Germany’s infamous secret service.

His cheeks and jaw had been rebuilt to make him look leaner and his eyes reshaped since those days he had boasted on Arab television about his notorious terrorist attacks: destroying the U.S. embassy in Beirut that wiped out the CIA station in the city; kidnapping Terry Waite and other Western hostages. His greatest crime had been the bombing of a U.S. marine barracks near Beirut airport that killed 241 people.

The CIA, MI6 and every Western intelligence service put Mughniyah at the top of their Most Wanted List. A reward of about $5 million was offered for his capture.

The Mossad team members, who had used their expertise to track the terrorists who had carried out the 1972 Munich massacre, once more were called upon to find Mughniyah.

He was tracked to Paris but managed to escape as the kidon -- Mossad's assassins -- closed in. He vanished first to Saudi Arabia. Then to Tehran.

The operation began last Sunday when three Mossad agents, using Iranian passports, arrived in Damascus on different flights from Rome and Athens.

One rented a car. Posing as tourists, they drove around the city. That evening they rented a lock-up garage. Inside the garage, they wired two powerful bombs into the chassis of the hired car.

It would be nice if it *were* Mossad (but if it were, the Israelis should say absolutely nothing).

However, my money's on an intra-ummah assassination; the history of the Empire of Islam, all branches, is chock-full of assassinations at every level, from the caliphs on down to the local war-lords.

Pursuant to my post above: since assassination was almost the normal mode of dynastic succession in the caliphates, maybe someone wanted a promotion.
